Can I install a Samsung 840 Pro 256GB into the new iMac late 2013?

Hi There,
1)   Can a Samsung 840 Pro 256GB SSD be installed in the new iMac late 2013 model?  (My plan is to remove the existing 1TB HDD and replace with the Samsung SSD)
1.1)  I have heard somewhere, even though it will fit, Apple's logic board firmware will pick up the non-apple product and render the iMac useless until original hard drive is reinstalled.
1.2)  If it will work, will I loose my warranty on iMac?  Note, the SSD will be installed by an Apple authorized workshop.
2)     Can 2x 2.5 sata drives be installed in the iMac?
2.1)  I know the iMac only has 1x SATA and 1x PCIe slot, but can one not install a PCIe - SATA converter and also a 2x 2.5 drive bay in the place of the existing         3.5" drive?
Thanks for your assistance.
Regards,
asdutoit

I checked on the Samsung website and the 840 Pro is OSX compatible and should work in your MBP.

  • Samsung 840 pro ssd into my MBP 8.2

I am putting a Samsung 840 pro ssd into my MBP 8.2, I have my backup hard drive in my dvd place. Is there an easy way to get a clean install on my new drive?

I would recomend before you install the new drive to go to Apple's website and create a Recovery USB
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4848
Once you do that you can install your new drive and then you should be able to install OSX from the USB drive.

  • Can i install bootcamp on the new iMac late 2012 "27"?

can i install bootcamp on the new iMac late 2012 "27" without fushion drive?

    You have two possibilities:
    1. Buy the USB SuperDrive and install Windows from a disc.
    2. Use an USB drive with the Windows 7 installer inside.
Boot Camp isn't compatible with Windows 8, so you will have to wait. Also, the Late 2012 is only compatible with the 64-bit Windows 7 edition

    i buy the new imac,late 2012 with a hard-drive 3TB and i want to change with another hard-drive 1TB....where i can buy?

It's also much more difficult to install third-party hard drives in current or recent Macs than it was. See:
    http://blog.macsales.com/10146-apple-further-restricts-upgrade-options-on-new-im acs
The 2012 iMacs are also in essence glued together and very difficult to disassemble and reassemble. The bottom line is: don't try it.
Why, if I may ask, would you want to remove the 3TB drive and replace it with a 1TB drive? What is it you hope to achieve even if it were possible?
    Regards.

  • Can I install Ilife 8 onto my macbook from my new iMac install discs?

    I am confused!
I was in an Apple retails store yesterday checking out the new iMacs as I will shortly be buying one, a 24" 2.8Ghz model. As this will come loaded with Leopard and iLife 08 I was also planning on buying the DVD's of both ready to install on my Macbook so that both computers would be running the same versions of the OS and iLife. However, the salesperson I was discussing this with told me that I would be able to install iLife 08 onto my Macbook from the install disc that comes with my new iMac as the software is licenced to the user not the machine, thereby saving me from having to buy it.
Is this true? And what about Leopard?I always thought that the software discs only worked on one machine, i.e. the one it came with.

Here's a link to the Apple user agreement for iLife 08.
    http://images.apple.com/legal/sla/docs/ilife08.pdf
Item 2 states that you may install iLife on ONE Apple Branded Computer. The family pack allows you to install on up to 5 in the same household.
The discs that come with your new iMac are specific to the iMac and should not be installed onto any other Mac. The retail version of Leopard can be installed on any Mac...but once again one license one machine.

  • Can I install my old internal hard drive into my new G5?

    Hello All,
I've just purchased a new computer:
    Apple Mac Pro CTO
    2GB (4 x 512MB) Two 3GHz Dual-Core Intel Xeon
    500GB 7200-rpm Serial ATA 3Gb/s
    NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT 256MB (single e-link DVI/dual-link DVI)
    My old computer is a PMG4, Dual 1Ghz, 1GBRam, 80G HD. I installed a secondary internal drive; a Maxtor 250G 7L250RO, 16MB ATA (MXT-6B250RO)
I've filled up about 100G on the Maxtor and was wondering if I can install this HD into one of the empty bays of my new computer? Space is not necessarily the issue, rather I would love to be able to put all I need on the Maxtor from the old computer and just pop it into my new Mac.
Can this internal be installed into my new Mac?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

He means buy a FireWire 400/800 drive enclosure that will take your drive and let you use it. It is almost impossible (for me) to fit a PATA drive in the 2nd optical drive bay of the Mac Pro.
I would invest in some more drive(s) for the Mac Pro though. I firmly believe in having two backup sets minimum. And to have a backup of the system as well as a "safe" emergency boot drive as well.
In order to boot from a drive on Mac Pro, it must be formatted or reformatted with GUID partition scheme (Disk Utility: Partition and at the bottom, click on "Options" to make the selection. So you may want to boot from backup/clone at some point to repair your main drive.
You can begin to find FW cases at OWC (www.macsales.com) and other places like Amazon, FWDepot etc.

  • Can I use my old Macbook Pro Ram in the New Macbook Pro (late 2008)

I have 2, 2 gig DDR2 sticks of ram in my macbook pro. I wanted to know if they would work in the new macbook pro (late 2008)? I know the new one uses DDR3 - What would be the downside of using DDR2 in a DDR3 macbook? Would the graphics cards work to their potential? Thanks!

No. The DDR2 RAM in your older computer is not the same as the DDR3 RAM used in the new ones. There are significant differences between them not the least of which is pin count.

  • The new Mac Pro's and the new iMacs

    Greetings,
I'm in the market to finally replace my G5 Mac tower for a more contemporary model. I see that Apple has finally refreshed the Mac Pro line. I was hoping for some CPU clarifications.
The iMacs all say they use i5's and i7 processors. But according to wikipedia, those are Nehalem processors. While looking over the Mac Pro's they claim they use either Nehalem or Westmere processors. From a general prospective, the Core i7 is the same as the Nehalem?
So if they use the same processor, wouldn't it be more cost effective to get a high end iMac (Core i7) over a low end Mac Pro (Nehalem?
Then there's the Westmere's. They also use the same name of core i5. So does that mean the iMacs use Westmere's or Nehalem's?
Why oh why does this have to be so complicated?!
    Thanks!

Intel chart (link from Barefeats) shows processor family. i7 "Bloomfield" is so... 2009 which is desktop subset name of Nehalem.

IS THE TOP iMAC THE BEST BUY? The 'mid 2010' iMac Core i7, is as much as 45% faster than the Core i5 for 10% more cost. The Core i7 is as much as 104% faster (twice as fast) as the Core i3 for 29% more cost.
The new Quad i7 boosts up to 3.60Ghz when only one core is used.

+I edit 5D Mark II RAW files on a 3.06Ghz Core2Duo iMac (early 2010 model) which has 4GB of RAM. Editing and such works very well with both Lightroom and Photoshop CS5.+
+Give my expreience I would recommend the lower spec 27" model with has a i5 dual core processor as opposed to quadcore i5 (or i7) processor in the higher priced 27" iMac.+
+With the money saved I'd buy two additional 4GB Ram Modules (~$250-300 total) which should give you 12GB total ... plenty of headroom to process even large collections of files.+
+I am buying an i7 iMac with 8GB of Ram extra right now. But i need the i7 manily for pralell programming, video editing and 3d rendering ... but not so much for editing photos+

  • Why can't I play games on my brand-new iMac late 2013?

Every time I try to play a game on my iMac, the screen looks like it freezes or lags so I cannot even close the game, or even close the iMac, so all I can do is force shut down it. Any suggestions except giving it back to the store I bought it? Did I spend 2249 Euros for nothing?
Processor: 3.4 GHz Intel Core i5
    Memory: 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 775M 2048 MB

For Grand Theft Auto, the only version I found that "Officially" still run native on the Mac and are in the Mac App Store are Grand Theft Auto II I released in 2010-2011 and Grand Theft Auto Vice City released in 2012.
The more recent versions of GTA IV and V are PC ONLY. NO official Mac OS X version for these.
There are no other versions available on the Mac App Store! so those should run on your Mac with little issues as it is designed to run on OS X 10.6.6 and later OS X versions.
From the GTA website posted in Feb 2014,
    https://support.rockstargames.com/hc/en-us/articles/200147266-Macintosh-system-r equirements-and-specifications-for-Grand-Theft-Auto-III-Vice-City-and-San-Andrea s
AND, the GTA web link does not mention any support for OS X 10.7, 10.8, 10.9 OR 10.10.
So, I am not sure what versions of these games you purchased and where, but it would appear the recent versions of these games are NOT OS X supported.
You would need to install the proper version of Windows on your Mac to play these games.
If you are running the latest Tomb Raider that is available on the Mac App Store either Tomb Raider Essential or Tomb Raider Underworld, both should be able to run on your Mac. Tomb Raider Underworld runs on OS X 10.6.6 or later and Tomb Raider Essentials runs on OS X 10.9.1 Mavericks and later.
You might be having issues with these on OS X 10.10 Yosemite as users are still having issues with the new OS X.
Did you ever play these under OS X 10.9 Mavericks?.
I suspect issues with these games under Yosemite as Yosemite, itself, uses more hardware overhead. Based on numerous issues posted here about Yosemite, seems Yosemite is more taxing on both RAM and the GPU.

  • OK if I go with a Mac Pro instead of the new iMac will common monitors work

I have two HP w2007 22 inch Digital Widescreen LCD monitors, can I get by with these for six months until I can buy better displays.
I want to edit video with the New Full Suite of Final Cut Studio Pro 3.

Most of the newer MacPro models have one dual-link DVI port and one mini-display port. So you may need a mini-display-to-DVI adapter if you plan to use two monitors.

  • How can i import my files from an Acer into my new iMac - easiest idiot proof solution pls

i bought an iMac, and would like to migrate all data from my old Acer aspire one over to the mac
i tried thru wireless ------ too dumb for it - or to bad step by step guides to do it

Do you have a USB flash drive or an external hard drive, if so then plug it in to your USB port on your Acer and copy your my documents folder to to the drive.  After ejecting the drive insert it into the Mac and copy the files into your home folder.  I would copy folder to folder from drive, for example; your documents folder files from Acer to Mac documents folder and so forth.

  • Can a Domain.sites iWeb file be transferred into the new version of iWeb?

So I have my Domain.sites file from my old computer (Home, Library, Application Support, iWeb), but I can't get it to open on my new computer.  I assume this is because it is a domain.sites file, and the new version requires domain.sites2?  How can I get my old site to transfer to my new computer or convert the file, etc.?
I've looked over a lot of postings, but I can't figure out what I should do once I have the Domain.sites file, and I've put it in the same place on my new computer but I get the message: "Can't Open File."
