Can I install OS 10.4 DVD on G3 B&W (CD-ROM only) from Mac Mini with DVD?

I have G3 B&W 400Mhz 384Mb memory 9Gb hard drive.
It has CD-ROM, Zip Drive, Firewire, USB & Ethernet and currenty running on OS 10.2.
I'd like to upgrade to OS 10.4, but it's on DVD.
I also own Mac Mini G4 with DVD-RW, and I can connect it to G3 with Firewire using Target Drive Mode. G3 recognize Mac Mini as a hard drive.
Can I install OS 10.4 from Mac Mini? Thank you for your help!

If you mean the 10.4 DVD is a full-retail copy for any machine, not the version that came with the Mac mini.

    Hi Guys,

What is the problem here so I can get Pictures onto my Computer. ,

    Hi Noob Søren
There are a few things that are confusing in your question.
As far as I know, you dont have to install Time Machine on this OS as it is already installed for you. You only need to connect a hard drive to your computer via firewire or usb, click on the Time Machine icon, Open Time Machine Preference in the drop down menu and select a disk: your connected hard drive.
You can of course reformat this connected device, partition it into a few volumes to organise data if you so wish.
I find it strange that your mac's hard drive is divided into two volumes... perhaps this was created through bootcamp?
You can access the configuration of your hd through Applications/Utilities/Disk Utilities.
Clicking on one of the icons on the right hand panel will bring the details of the contents of your hardDrive and volumes. From there you can decide to erase a partition, reformat etc....
If your hd contains more than one volume, and one of them is empty, you could decide to remove it. Back up all your important data before doing so.
    Hope this helps

Can't install itunes on a new Win7 machine. Get a message "There is a problem with this Windows installer package. A program required for this install to complete could not be run"

Have you completed all windows update including service Pack1?  If not, please complete all the windows update then follow steps below to re-install all over.
    1. Go to Microsoft website to fix install and Unistall problems. Click "Run now" from Fix it to remove all iTunes & related installer files:
    http://support.microsoft.com/mats/Program_Install_and_Uninstall
Be aware that Windows Installer CleanUp Utility will not remove the actual program from your computer. However, it will remove the installation files so that you can start the installation, upgrade, or uninstall over.
    2. You should remove all instances of iTunes and the rest of the components listed below:
it may be necessary to remove all traces of iTunes, QuickTime, and related software components from your computer before reinstalling iTunes.
Use the Control Panel to uninstall iTunes and related software components in the following order:
    iTunes
    QuickTime
    Apple Software Update
    Apple Mobile Device Support
    Bonjour
    Apple Application Support
Follow the instructions from Apple article listed here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923 to remove all components
    3. Reboot your computer. Next, download iTunes from here:http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/ and install from scratch

  • Can someone tell me how to install webcam isight A1023 on my mac mini with OS 10.8

Please help me to install my webcam isight A1023 on my mac mini with OS 10.8

All you need do is follow the instructions in the iSight User Guide (Manual) that came with your old external iSight.
Neither your system info nor your post identify which Mac mini you use.  If your mini is a newer model that has only a Firewire 800 port, and, if you don't already have one that works, you will need a FW400-800 adapter or cable.
Be aware of Possible Conflicts with Firewire iSight. If you encounter such problems with your mini system and cannot resolve them, you can workaround the Firewire issues by using a Mac compatible USB external camera.

  • Mac mini with 10.6 installed - dual boot 10.8?

    Hi all
    I have an a Mac mini with 10.6.8 installed (think it came with 10.5) and would like to buy Mountain Lion from the Apple Store and install it as a dual boot setup. I think the hardware is too old for 10.10 (although it does give me the option to download it from the App store). I would like to keep my existing install and install 10.8 either alongside 10.6 or on a separate partition. Couple of questions;
Can I shrink the partition that contains my existing 10.6 install (there is plenty of space on the disk), create another partition and install 10.8 onto it?
Failing that can I install 10.8 alongside 10.6 on the same partition (like we used to do for OS9 and OSX)?
For 10.8 I will be receiving a "content code" for the Mac App Store - once I download the files and start the install presumably the Mac will restart and I will get access to the usual install utilities (without the OS running)?
    Many thanks for any help.

If your computer will run Mountain Lion, it will run Yosemite.
    1. Yes.
    2. I would go with 2 partitions.
    Yes.
Check that your computer is compatible with Mountain Lion/Mavericks/Yosemite.
To check the model number hold down the option/alt key, go to the Apple menu and select System Information.
Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) model number 3,1 or higher
    Your Mac needs:
OS X v10.6.8 or OS X Lion already installed
2 GB or more of memory (More is better - 4 GB minimum seems to be the consensus)
8 GB or more of available space
Check to make sure your applications are compatible. PowerPC applications are no longer supported after 10.6.
    Application Compatibility
    Applications Compatibility (2)
    Do a backup before installing.

  • Drivers won't work on windows 7 when i installed it on my my mac mini with os x lion

have installed windows 7 using boot camp on my mac mini with os x lion on it. But when i loaded windows 7 up it was working fine but then windows 7 wouldn't connect to wifi. It says i have to install drivers but i don't know how to.

First, hold the X key while your Mac is starting to start in OS X. Then, open Boot Camp Assistant (in /Applications/Utilities), follow the steps and mark the option to download the Windows support software. It will be downloaded onto a USB drive or DVD.
Finally, start in Windows, access to the DVD or USB drive through Windows Explorer and run the installer. When the Windows support software is installed, restart

  • What is good greeting card software for my mac mini with Mountain Lion OS X 10.8.1?  I want a wide range of existing templates such as Hallmark and Printshop offer, but can't find for this version OS X.

For my Mac mini with Mountain Lion OS X 10.8.1, what is a good greeting card software download with lots of templates and graphics?

    Hi simon2010,
as far as I can see, I have resolved it...
Just so I didn't write over my functioning disk in the Mac mini, I took it out and put a spare one in.  (Would have saved me going back to the Apple store to get it re-imaged if it did fail.)
I created a Mountain Lion installer on an 8GB USB stick, and first installed 10.8.4 (the latest at the current time) on my MacBook Pro... it worked fine, so I knew the installer stick had no problems at all (that's one thing to rule out of the list of potential causes).
With my spare hard disk in the Mac mini, I then went to try to install 10.8.4 on it, with my 16GB non-Apple RAM in it.  It failed as usual in the way I expressed originally.
I then just swapped my 16GB RAM for the original Apple 4GB RAM (2x2GB sticks) which I put back in the machine, and I tried re-installing.  No problem whatsoever - it installed perfectly.
It's the RAM!  Even though my RAM works perfectly once installed, the Apple OS installer refuses to proceed if Apple RAM is not in.  I put my 16GB RAM back in after installing the OS and all is fine.
I'm quite surprised Apple has done this.
Have you changed the RAM?  Let me know if it's the same problem or you have some differences.
I assume it will install fine if I put the orignal HD back in, again if I have the original Apple RAM in of course.
PS.  Also to note, the point where it failed in the installer with my 16GB RAM in, with the original Apple RAM in it took an incredibly long time towards the end of the bar moving across the screen; it says "5 minutes remaining" for at least 15, maybe 20 minutes, but gets past it eventually, then does a reboot to continue its install.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It won’t solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
Third-party system modifications are a common cause of usability problems. By a “system modification,” I mean software that affects the operation of other software — potentially for the worse. The following procedure will help identify which such modifications you've installed. Don’t be alarmed by the complexity of these instructions — they’re easy to carry out and won’t change anything on your Mac.
These steps are to be taken while booted in safe mode.
Below are instructions to enter some UNIX shell commands. The commands are harmless, but they must be entered exactly as given in order to work. If you have doubts about the safety of the procedure suggested here, search this site for other discussions in which it’s been followed without any report of ill effects.
Some of the commands will line-wrap or scroll in your browser, but each one is really just a single line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, and you can then copy it. The headings “Step 1” and so on are not part of the commands.
Note: If you have more than one user account, Step 2 must be taken as an administrator. Ordinarily that would be the user created automatically when you booted the system for the first time. The other steps should be taken as the user who has the problem, if different. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this paragraph doesn’t apply.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
When you launch Terminal, a text window will open with a line already in it, ending either in a dollar sign (“$”) or a percent sign (“%”). If you get the percent sign, enter “sh” and press return. You should then get a new line ending in a dollar sign.
    Step 1
Triple-click the line of text below to select it:
    for k in /Sy*/L*/Ex*/{,.?}*.kext; do test -f "$k/Contents/Info.plist" && /usr/libexec/PlistBuddy -c "Print :CFBundleIdentifier" "$_" | egrep -qv "apple|Accusys|ArcMSR|ATTO|CalDigit|HighPoint|hp-fax|JMicron|print|SoftRAID|stex" && echo $k; done | open -f -a TextEdit
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Then click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste (command-V). A TextEdit window will open with the output of the command. Post the contents of that window, if any — the text, please, not a screenshot. You can then close the TextEdit window. The title of the window doesn't matter, and you don't need to post that. No typing is involved in this step.
    Step 2
    Repeat with this line:
sudo defaults read com.apple.loginwindow LoginHook | open -f -a TextEdit
This time you'll be prompted for your login password, which you do have to type. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. Type it carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. Heed that warning, but don't post it. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
Note: If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before taking this step. If that’s not possible, skip to the next step.
    Step 3
    Repeat with this line:
    ls -1A /e*/mach* {,/}L*/{Ad,Compon,Ex,Fram,In,Keyb,La,Mail/Bu,P*P,Priv,Qu,Scripti,Servi,Spo,Sta}* L*/Fonts 2> /dev/null | open -f -a TextEdit
Important: If you formerly synchronized with a MobileMe account, your me.com email address may appear in the output of the above command. If so, anonymize it before posting.
    Step 4
osascript -e 'tell application "System Events" to get name of every login item' 2> /dev/null | open -f -a TextEdit
Remember, Steps 1-4 are all copy-and-paste — no typing, except your password. Also remember to post the output.
    You can then quit Terminal.

  • HT5628 Is it possible to format entire hard disk and install windows 8 only in mac mini?

Is it possible to format entire hard disk and install windows 8 only in mac mini?

You can, but it's not recommended. If you are going to use Windows all the time, at least give some GBs to OS X, because you will need it to install firmware updates.
Use Boot Camp Assistant to create a Windows partition. You can find it in /Applications/Utilities. Then, follow Apple's steps to install Windows 8 > http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/boot_camp_install-setup_10.8.pdf You must use a 64-bit version, and note that not all Mac minis support Windows 8. Check if yours is supported > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5634?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
Boot Camp Assistant will ask you to download the Windows support software onto a USB drive. You will need to install it in Windows, so it's very important to download it. If not, you will have problems in Windows.
If your Mac doesn't support Windows 8, install the Windows version the site gives you

  • HT5446 If I buy a mac mini with a fusion drive and add windows using boot camp, can I make the SSD function be dedicated to the windows partition?

If I buy a mac mini with a fusion drive and add windows using boot camp, can I make the SSD function be dedicated to the windows partition?

Additional information from Linc's post. Basically, only one additional partition can be added to a Fusion Drive and it resides on the HDD.
Do computers that come with a Fusion Drive support Boot Camp?
Yes. Use the Boot Camp Assistant to create a Windows partition and install Boot Camp. The Windows partition will exist on the hard disk drive, not the Flash drive, and is not part of Fusion Drive Logical Volume Group. 3TB Fusion Drive configurations need to update to OS X Mountain Lion v10.8.3 or later to install Windows 8. See iMac (27-inch, Late 2012): Boot Camp alert with 3T hard drive for more information.

How can I control my my mac mini with my macbook air (no wifi)? Also...what is the best method (less lag) for screen sharing?
I own a mac mini Quad Server 2.0 i7 and I use it for audio production.  It's great but I need to travel with it. I was hoping some form of screen sharing could be useful using the macbook air to control the mac mini.  Therefore, I'd be using the stronger processor of the mac mini but would still be using the keyboard and trackpad from the air.
    My two problems:
    1.  I can't depend on wifi to make this happen. Wifi is not always available when travleing.  What would be the best way to configure a LAN connection?
