Q: How do I install Windows 7/8 /8 Beta on a Mac?
Only Windows 7 is supported by Apple in Bootcamp at this time, however you can install Windows 8/ 8 Beta into virtual machine software.

Can I boot up an intel imac running os lion from a snowleopard install disk so that I can run my old power pc software

If the Snow Leopard install disk came with or otherwise is compatible with your iMac, you can boot from it, but that won't allow you to run software (other than the utilities that are part of the installation set). You will have to install Snow Leopard, either on a partition on the iMac's internal hard drive or on an external drive, before you will be able to run applications.

  • Can't install Windows on my iMac with 16 Go !

    Hello !
I bought an iMac i7 3.4 GHz SSD + 1TB drive and 4GB of ram. I replaced the 4 GB of RAM with 16 GB purchased from Crucial (4 strips 4GB with a priori the same features as the apple strips which are Samsung ...).
Everything is fine when I use Mac OS 10.6.8. No memory problem.
By cons, can not install Windows 7 32 bit or 64. An error occurs during the installation process : 0x80070570. After a little research on the forums, it is an error that may be due to a corrupted media - for example broken record - but this is not the case : my window installed itself perfectly on another computer.
The experience of other users evokes an error caused by memory. So I reinstalled my original bars of 2 GB. And there, no problem of installation. Windows is working properly. After reinstalling Windows, I replaced my memory with my 4 bars crucial,"and there is the drama." Windows becomes unstable : crashes, errors of registration, software installation... useless... I run a diagnostic memory test that went smoothly ! Obviously, the memory does not seem corrupted, especially since it works well on Mac OS 10.6.8.
So I decided to link the two strips origins (2 GB each) with two crucial strips (4 GBeach), a total of 12 GB of ram. And it works.
Do you have an explanation for this problem? Do you know how I can install Windows with my 16 GB crucial?
    Thank you.

You make no mention of how your are attempting to install MS Windows so it's a little tough to help you. If  you are using Boot Camp please use Boot Camp Assistant and if you still have problems please post in the Boot Camp forum. If you are using virtualization software (Fusion, Parallels etc.) then use the instructions that came with their software and if you still have difficulty please post in their forums.

  • How Can I install Windows on my iMac??

Hi There! I wanted to ask that how can i install windows 7 64-bit on my imac as i wanted to use some softwares and also, play some games that are not there on osx. Please tell my how to do this. I have a 2007 24-inch iMac with the following specs-
    Intel Core2 Duo CPU@ 2.40GHz
4GB RAM (That i Upgraded Myself)
    Radeon HD2600 Pro Graphics, 256MB
    320GB HDD
    OSX 10.8 Mountain Lion

Your Mid 2007 iMac has got a 64-bit processor that allows you to install a 64-bit Windows 7 version, but Apple doesn't give you support for it in your iMac. Only Late 2009 and newer iMacs are supported by Apple to install a 64-bit version. See > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5634?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
My advice is to install a 32-bit Windows 7 version, although you will probably not be able to use all the RAM. Follow Apple's steps to install Windows > http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/boot_camp_install-setup_10.8.pdf
If you still want to install a 64-bit Windows 7 version, do it, but note that it won't work properly as there are no Apple drivers for it

  • Can I install Windows on my iMac 27, 3TB Fusion Drive, late-2012 with Boot Camp 5?

Hello. When I first opened the Boot Camp Assistant app, it said it could not work with the 3TB fusion drive. With the updated version of Boot Camp, the option to install Windows appeared. I tried to install Windows 8, but the loading bar stopped moving. I waited for hours, but it still did not move. I decided to quit the app, and re-open it, in order to try again. It crashed, and would not open. So I restarted my system and when I did that I noticed that I had about 1GB or so left of storage. This shocked me, because the disk was just suddenly filled for some reason. In hopes of fixing this I used an app called 'CleanMyMac' to try and recover the disk space. And as I thought the disk space returned to normal. However when I went to Disk Utility and clicked 'repair disk' it said this...
There is only 1 partition, so the Boot Camp process did fail.
I don't know whats wrong with my system though? I would like to install Windows, but I'm worried that I might recieve errors again. I have not got Apple Care, but I'm playing on buying it soon, due to it being almost a year since I bought the system.
Maybe I did something wrong when trying to install Windows with Boot Camp? I don't know, but if possible can someone please tell me if I can install Windows and if something is wrong with my system.
Here is some additional screen shots of the type of system I have.
Thank you for your help with this issue!

Which copy or version of Windows? and how where was it purchased?
my window installed itself perfectly on another computer.
One copy and you want to activate on two computers?
With 16GB, it will try to create 16GB hibernation file, 24GB page file, and need 20-30GB for the OS, plus room for temp, cache, applications, 9GB just temp to install SP1 update(s).
did you create 80GB or larger partition?
also, some macs with ssd + hard drive have issues, and of course you need Windows 7 64-bit home premium (Pro to use more).
OWC has up to 32GB, not cheap.

  • CAN'T INSTALL Flash Player on iMac running Safari - can you help?

I have run the install programme for the latest version many times over the past 4 weeks or so - every time it seems to complete the download satisfactorally but then I still get error messages accessing BBC iPlayer and the Adobe "detector" tells me it isn't installed. I have a 2008 iMac running OS X 10.7.5 with 4 GB of RAM using Safari version 6.1. Any advice/comments?

    Do a "clean install".
Download the "offline installer": Flash Player (Mac OS X)
Save it - DON'T run it yet.
Spotlight Search "Flash Player.plugin". Search your Mac HD. Trash EVERYTHING that appears in the results.
Go to [user]/Library/Preferences. (Hold the "Option" key and click "Go" from the Finder menu to access your [user] Library folder.)
Trash the Macromedia folder (The WHOLE folder).
    Go to Mac HD/Library/Internet Plugins.
    Trash the flashplayer.xpt file.
    Go to: Mac HD/Library/Application Support.
Trash the Macromedia folder (The WHOLE folder).
    Empty the trash.
Make sure ALL browsers are fully quit. Press Cmd+Opt+Esc to open the Force Quit window if necessary, to be sure they are no longer running)
Mount the DMG and run the installer to reinstall Flash Player.
Once it's all done, open Safari and go to Safari>Preferences>Security. Make sure "Allow All Other Plugins" in checked.

  • HT3669 How do I download HP 6500 e709a driver for my iMac running mtn lion?

Right now I am unable to use all the features of my printer because I have to scan through system preferences on my computer instead of scanning directly from the printer (like I did before I upgraded to mtn. lion)
I see on the Apple site that there is a driver download for 10.8.2 but I can't find it.
    Can anyone help me???

I'm not sure I understand your question - as far as I know, Chrome is a browser. You can download it here:

Which browser are you using now? I use Firefox and when I click on the arrow in the search field, I get all these choices of search engines:

  • How do you close a finder window on an iMac running Mountain Lion by double clicking on the top of the window like I can on my Macbook Air?

When I bought my Macbook Air in 2011, ( leopard on purchase - now mountain lion) I discovered how to close open Finder windows by double clicking at the top of the window. I have just bought an iMac (mountain lion) and for the life of me cant find out how to do the same. Finder preferences are no help. Can anyone out there be of some?
    Thanks in advance

I know what you are referring to. In both cases, the window is minimized, but on your MacBook Air, your Finder window is minimized onto the Finder icon, and on the iMac, on the right side of the Dock.
To change this on your iMac, open System Preferences > Dock, and mark "Minimize windows into application icon"

  • HT1338 Can I use windows xp on OS x mountain Lion?

Can I install Windows XP on OS X Mountain Lion?

Installing WinXP on Lion or above without BootCamp
It is possible to install WinXP onto Lion or Mountain Lion.  Bootcamp does not work thanks to Apple removing support, but the important drivers you need can be found on the net (details below – but the drivers you need will depend on your hardware). WinXP when installed will display at a low resolution on your screen but with the drivers you can fix that and get Wifi connectivity.
When I did it, by far the most time consuming part was to get my XP upgraded to SP3.  The solution to one nasty problem with SP3 upgrade is given below.
    PREPARATION
Obtain the following files using your browser in OSX before attempting WinXP install.
    1.  Service Pack 3 file (if your WinXP is Service Pack 2).  Obtain from http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=24
If the file has moved to a different page search on Microsoft's site for it.
(Note: I downloaded the SP3 driver written as a CD disk ISO image and used the FreeISOBurner software to make a CD from which I could make the install.)
    2.  Search and find drivers for the Intel graphics of your Macbook Pro
(search for  'Intel® HD Graphics Driver for Windows XP')
    3.  Find drivers for WIFI.  Mid 2011 MBP uses Broadcom. BCM43xx
    Wiki drivers site has them.
    4.  Make sure you have Win XP installation CD and the 25 character licence key.
Give yourself some time without too many urgent deadlines etc.
    PART A
Partition your hard disk in OSX using Disk Utility.  One should be FAT32 format and set to your size needs for Windows XP.
Restart computer and hold down C key to boot from Windows XP installation CD
Install WinXP following instructions.  At least one restart required.  Hold down option key when power is down to select the windows drive for booting
Once finished WinXP set up, restart and boot into OSX pressing and holding the option key when power is down.
    PART B
From OSX, open a finder window and locate the Windows drive
Open the folder 'Windows Drive'\Documents and Settings\'Your windows account name'\Desktop
Transfer the files you will need from your OSX into the Windows desktop
    Service pack 3
    Intel Graphics Drivers
    Wifi Drivers
(Note.  This is where it helps to use FAT32 format for Windows.  If you choose to format using NTFS when installing Windows then OSX can read but not write to that drive.  If you use NTFS you will need to transer the files to FAT32 formatted memory stick or CD)
    PART C
Reboot the computer into Win XP by holding down option key when restarting
Install the Intel graphics drivers.  Reboot to XP
Install the Wifi drivers.  Reboot to XP
Have a go at bringing your XP up to date.  This can be a long task depending on which version of installation disk you own: XP, XP with SP1, XP with SP2 or XP with SP3.  In my case I started from XP SP2.  Unfortunately the Windows Update mechanism in the XP SP2 system is now blocked by Microsoft so you can't update using the web.  This is where you need the SP3 installation.
    There are many possible headaches:
One error message is 'Setup requires a minimum of 4 additional megabytes of free space' when running the SP3 installation.  If this is the case then go to this page:
    http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_other-windows_update/er ror-there-is-not-enough-disk-space-on/3109444d-2249-4e66-973c-bd662635dc77
It appears that the BootDir register is not set during some installations (mine included).  Follow the clear instructions from David Mitchell to fix the registers (Thanks David!)
    PART D
Once you have Win XP SP3 going then you're Wifi should work and you should be able to complete the update process using the Windows update mechanism.  You can then find other drivers you may need such as LAN drivers etc.

  • I can't install Windows 8.1 on my Imac with Mavericks using Bootcamp. Why?

I can't install Windows 8.1 on my Imac 27" with Mavericks using Bootcamp. Why? I first did all the software updates needed, downloaded the driver software to a 32Gb flash drive formatted as FAT32, fired up Bootcamp Assistant, inserted the Windows 8.1 Full version 64 bit installation DVD as requested, and got as far as partitioning (tried this at 82 Gb for the Windows partition), then the MAC rebooted but halted before getting to the login page. Then a black screen came up with the error message: 'non-system disk - Press any key to reboot'. I did this and nothing happened. I was forced to shut down forcibly then restart with my finger held down on the option key. Then a screen came up with two icons: the macintosh HD icon and the Windows DVD icon. I double-clicked on the Windows DVD icon and the MAC came up with another black screen and error message: 'CDBoot: Couldn't find BOOTMGR'. Had to shut down forcibly again and restart as before, this time ejecting the Windows DVD first. Then I repartitioned my MAC back to all OSX. What the **** do I do now? Applecare couldn't help me beyond this point. They said to contact Microsoft. I notice a lot of other MAC owners have had similar problems.
    Please help? tagjsmith.
