Can I install Windows on my iMac 27, 3TB Fusion Drive, late-2012 with Boot Camp 5?

Hello. When I first opened the Boot Camp Assistant app, it said it could not work with the 3TB fusion drive. With the updated version of Boot Camp, the option to install Windows appeared. I tried to install Windows 8, but the loading bar stopped moving. I waited for hours, but it still did not move. I decided to quit the app, and re-open it, in order to try again. It crashed, and would not open. So I restarted my system and when I did that I noticed that I had about 1GB or so left of storage. This shocked me, because the disk was just suddenly filled for some reason. In hopes of fixing this I used an app called 'CleanMyMac' to try and recover the disk space. And as I thought the disk space returned to normal. However when I went to Disk Utility and clicked 'repair disk' it said this...
There is only 1 partition, so the Boot Camp process did fail.
I don't know whats wrong with my system though? I would like to install Windows, but I'm worried that I might recieve errors again. I have not got Apple Care, but I'm playing on buying it soon, due to it being almost a year since I bought the system.
Maybe I did something wrong when trying to install Windows with Boot Camp? I don't know, but if possible can someone please tell me if I can install Windows and if something is wrong with my system.
Here is some additional screen shots of the type of system I have.
Thank you for your help with this issue!

Which copy or version of Windows? and how where was it purchased?
my window installed itself perfectly on another computer.
One copy and you want to activate on two computers?
With 16GB, it will try to create 16GB hibernation file, 24GB page file, and need 20-30GB for the OS, plus room for temp, cache, applications, 9GB just temp to install SP1 update(s).
did you create 80GB or larger partition?
also, some macs with ssd + hard drive have issues, and of course you need Windows 7 64-bit home premium (Pro to use more).
OWC has up to 32GB, not cheap.

Download and intall the Windows Support software. You can start Bootcamp Assistant again and only select the option to download the support software. Then follow the instructions to save and install the support software.
Or, manually download the support software here http://www.apple.com/support/bootcamp/downloads/.

  • Can't install Windows on my iMac with 16 Go !

    Hello !
I bought an iMac i7 3.4 GHz SSD + 1TB drive and 4GB of ram. I replaced the 4 GB of RAM with 16 GB purchased from Crucial (4 strips 4GB with a priori the same features as the apple strips which are Samsung ...).
Everything is fine when I use Mac OS 10.6.8. No memory problem.
By cons, can not install Windows 7 32 bit or 64. An error occurs during the installation process : 0x80070570. After a little research on the forums, it is an error that may be due to a corrupted media - for example broken record - but this is not the case : my window installed itself perfectly on another computer.
The experience of other users evokes an error caused by memory. So I reinstalled my original bars of 2 GB. And there, no problem of installation. Windows is working properly. After reinstalling Windows, I replaced my memory with my 4 bars crucial,"and there is the drama." Windows becomes unstable : crashes, errors of registration, software installation... useless... I run a diagnostic memory test that went smoothly ! Obviously, the memory does not seem corrupted, especially since it works well on Mac OS 10.6.8.
So I decided to link the two strips origins (2 GB each) with two crucial strips (4 GBeach), a total of 12 GB of ram. And it works.
Do you have an explanation for this problem? Do you know how I can install Windows with my 16 GB crucial?
    Thank you.

You make no mention of how your are attempting to install MS Windows so it's a little tough to help you. If  you are using Boot Camp please use Boot Camp Assistant and if you still have problems please post in the Boot Camp forum. If you are using virtualization software (Fusion, Parallels etc.) then use the instructions that came with their software and if you still have difficulty please post in their forums.

  • How Can I install Windows on my iMac??

Hi There! I wanted to ask that how can i install windows 7 64-bit on my imac as i wanted to use some softwares and also, play some games that are not there on osx. Please tell my how to do this. I have a 2007 24-inch iMac with the following specs-
    Intel Core2 Duo CPU@ 2.40GHz
4GB RAM (That i Upgraded Myself)
    Radeon HD2600 Pro Graphics, 256MB
    320GB HDD
    OSX 10.8 Mountain Lion

Your Mid 2007 iMac has got a 64-bit processor that allows you to install a 64-bit Windows 7 version, but Apple doesn't give you support for it in your iMac. Only Late 2009 and newer iMacs are supported by Apple to install a 64-bit version. See > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5634?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
My advice is to install a 32-bit Windows 7 version, although you will probably not be able to use all the RAM. Follow Apple's steps to install Windows > http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/boot_camp_install-setup_10.8.pdf
If you still want to install a 64-bit Windows 7 version, do it, but note that it won't work properly as there are no Apple drivers for it

  • Can you install Windows 7, then revert to a backup image of Vista with Rescue & Recovery?

I have a copy of 7 I want to put on my T61.  I've partitioned the OS into one partion, and the files into another.
I've made backup copies of the OS with Rescue & Recovery already, so can I install Windows 7 over Vista, then if I find I don't want to stick with it, recover back to Vista?
    T61 15.4" T9300 (2.5GHz 6MB L2) Windows 7 Professional x64 4GB Memory, NVidia Quadro NVS 140M

When you get to BOOTCAMP, that has to be changed from FAT to NTFS but you have to click Advanced Option.... button in order to change to NTFS.
The GPT error message can happen if you have more than one internal hard drive (say SSD and TB model).
If you didn't use Assistant, and some have managed, undo the partition.
Paragon CampTune $19 can also assist with installing Windows, creating the partition - but may not work with Lion, though you aren't there yet.

  • Hello i would like instal windows in my mac pro retina but i don't have boot camp

Hello i would like instal windows in my mac pro retina but i don't have boot camp

What version of OS X are you running on your MBPr?
If you open Applications > Utilities, you should see Boot Camp Assistant in that folder.
That is the utility which will create the partition into which you can install Windows that you have purchased from Microsoft.

  • Is it possible to Install Windows 8 Pro 64-bit on a secondary hard dive in Mac Mini (Late 2012) using Boot Camp 5?

    Hello,
I have a Mac Mini (Late 2012) running on OS X 10.8.3 and would like to install Windows 8 Pro on a secondary hard drive using Boot Camp 5. Is that really possible?
A little background about the topic under discussion.
    1. Mac Mini (Late 2012) has a place holder to accomodate an additional hard drive (2.5") under the hood
    2. If just plugged with one, it would show as an additional volume in the finder
    3. Boot Camp 5 supoprts Windows 8 Pro 64-bit installation
The idea is to run two operating systems (1. OS X and 2. Windows 8) on two hard drives in a Mac Mini, with maintainability a constraint.
Have any one tried this out?  If so, kindly share if there are any specific procedures apart form the one given in Boot Camp 5 manual.
    Thanks in advance.
    ~ Narey

    Gotcha!!
I am done with mounting a secondary HDD (thanks to ifixit) and installing Windows 8 Pro 64 bit on it without a worry. Charm, charm!!
Boot Camp 5 guide prescribes all needed steps and when read and used correctly, installation must be an easy task. And all the existing apple hardwares work so good in the Windows environment too.
I am going to help out a friend of mine in doing a similar thing on his mac too. If you got specific questions, please do shoot up here and i should be able to get a reply to it (if at all).
    Thanks everyone.

  • Windows 7 professional 64 Bit on MacBook Pro Retina 15 with Boot Camp ?

Hallo guys, i have a big problem with installing Windows 7 professional 64 Bit on my MacBook Pro Retina 15 with Boot Camp. No matter what i try i get a black screen after partitioning or get a message like " No bootable disk" or  " No System Disk availabe".
My Mac has : OS X version 10.8.2, 16 GB RAM, 512 GB memory, 2.6 GHz Intel i7 and is only a week old
My Boot Camp is version 5.0.1
My Windows InstallingDVD is one year old now, i needed it to build a PC last year, hope that doesnt make a difference, its a full version, so not just for upgrading.
From what i saw in the apple support it should work on my macbook. I hope someone can help me.
    Thanks in advance.

Ok, problem solved. I looked a bit more here in the questions and there was the answer and its quite simple.
Somehow an USB-stick makes problems while Windows wants to install, i dont know why. So i just made everything over DVDs and now everything works fine.

  • Can I install Windows XP Pro onto my external hard drive?

I have a MacBook with a 320gb Western Digital external hard drive. I also have Windows XP Pro on a disk that my college gave me.
Can I install XP Pro on my external hard drive so I can have both Mac and PC?
I have Mac OS X Leopard so I think bootcamp will let me do this.

Boot Camp will only let you install onto an internal disk. This is largely because of Windows restrictions, not Mac OS restrictions. The beta thread has some supposed approaches to let you do this, using manual steps instead of using Boot Camp Assistant.

  • Issue with Fusion drive (Late 2012 iMac)

I have a late 2009 iMac that has been backed up with Time Machine.  I recently picked up a late 2012 iMac with the 1TB Fusion drive.  When I first plugged in my Time Machine drive, I was asked if I'd like to transfer my files over.  I did, and everything was working fine.  I was using about 800GB of my 1.12TB Fusion Drive.
I recently decided to add a new partition to the Macintosh HD in order to put Windows on it. I did this through the Disk Utility.  I noticed that it was taking an inordinately long time to create this partition.  Finally, I realized that the Disk Utility was locked up.  I was forced to reboot to fix it.
I went back and tried again and I got an error stating that the drive had errors and I couldn't make a new partition.  So I attempted to "repair disk".  That gave me an error "Error: This disk needs to be repaired using the Recovery HD. Restart your computer, holding down the Command key and the R key until you see the Apple logo. When the OS X Utilities window appears, choose Disk Utility."
So I rebooted into recovery.  Recovery was absolutely no help either.  It couldn't repair the drive, even though it had me erase all the data.  So I downloaded 10.8.2 on my Mac Mini and made a boot disk out of my Thunderbolt drive.  I booted into OS X and tried again to repair, thinking it would work since the Fusion was no longer the boot drive.  No such luck.  I then booted back into recovery and had recovery download and install a fresh version of 10.8.2.  2+ hours into the download/install, I get an error that says "OS X couldn't be installed because the disk Macintosh HD is damaged and can't be repaired."
Ok, so as a final attempt, I had recovery use my time machine to start over.  That worked, kinda.  It now shows my Fusion drive as being completely filled in Disk Utility (49KB remains, only about 800 or so was used before), and Finder shows the Fusion drive as being 860GB capacity with 837GB used.  I still can't repair the disk.  And now my Time Machine acts like I'm working on an entirely new computer and says there's not enough room on the drive unless I format my Time Machine drive and start over.
Yeah, TL;DR, but does anybody have any idea how I can get this issue resolved?  I wonder if doing the TM restore from my 2009 iMac may have introduced the non-Fusion version of Disk Utilities that doesn't know how to fix my issue.

    Yes I have AppleCare.
Before that I've now made a bootable disk and tried to repair the internal drive, but this was not possible.
I have a Time Machine backup, but excluded some temporary folders.
Is there a way to access these folders in case they aren't in a damaged area?
    Maybe using "Target Disk mode"?
    I've never done this before.
This Mac has no FireWire, but we have an adaptor for Thunderbolt to FireWire - could I connect an older Mac with FireWire using this adaptor for Target Disk Mode?
    Many thanks.

  • Free Space Partition on Mac HD - 3TB Fusion Drive Late 2013 iMac

I have managed to create a free space partition on my Mac HD that I now cant get rid of. This happened when I was trying to run bootcamp and during the Windows install I created a new partition that wiped the bootcamp partition and turned it into free space. Have attached a screen shot of my HD. I have already tried re-formatting the free space partition but nothing happens, just goes back to free space. Any help/ideas would be appreciated. Thanks!
    Late 2013 iMac-3TB Fusion drive

Try highlighting the top space and there should be a arrow of sorts in the bottom right hand corner, like this.
Click and hold on it and drag it down to take up the free space.
If there is no 45º lines then you have separated that space from the Logical Storage Volume that makes up the Fusion drive and it can't be put back in without wiping out the Fusion drive and recreating it. At least no way that I know of.
