Can I play the sound form Apple TV via my airport express attached speakers?

I have 3 x AirPort Express based speakers which I use for iTunes music playback.  I have today bought an Apple TV, which I would like to use to also play music to my AirPort Expresses.  Is that possible if so how? I can't see an option to use the Airport's as an output for the Apple TV audio.
I will be very disappointed if this cannot be done. :-(
Many thanks

I have reset the airport express and reconfigure my wireless settings. I have also used Ethernet on its own but still get the same sound problems.
I would love to turn itunes sound off as you used to be able to do, but this I believe can't be done.
Has anyone else been having the same types of problem, and better still has anyone got the answer?

When the AirPort Express Base Station (AX) is connected by Ethernet, you will find an option in the AirPort Utility, labeled: Enable AirTunes over Ethernet on the Music pane. Just select this option to allow streaming iTunes via the AirPort's Ethernet port. You should also be able to disable the AX's wireless so that it shouldn't interfere with the nearby TC.

So if I connect my ipad or iPod to an airport express that is being "extended" from the main airport express (the main router which is plug into my audio system), I should still be able to listen to my music, correct?
Yes but be sure to turn on Airplay at whatever Airport connects to the audio.

Also, will the date rate be decreased if they are connected by cat 5e Ethernet cable?  I thought signal drop is minimal.
That's a whole different ball game and a much better solution if it's practical to implement.  The data rate will not decrease.

  • I used part of my name in my home network.  Now I understand this was stupid security error.  How can i change the name of my home wifi network, airport express?  Thanks.

Open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility
Click on the picture of the AirPort Express
Click Edit in the smaller window that appears
Click the Wireless tab at the top of the next window
    Edit the Wireless Network Name
Keep it short.....maximum 10-12 characters or so. No blank spaces or punctuation marks in the name
Click Update at the lower right of the window to save the new setting and wait a full minute for the AirPort to restart

    spot on !
The Apple TV is connected to the TV via HDMI and to the amplifier via the optical cable.
The VoD works just fine, the transmission of content (sound/images) to the TV as well.
The only function I can't get working properly is playing the sound on the amplifier...
The optical cable is plugged into the following port : VCR digital in and when I select the very same menu among the different sources, i ve got no sound going out of the speakers...
    I don'g get it ;o)

  • Can I play the music on Apple TV through iTunes?

OK, this is not easy to explain, hope this makes sense:
My Apple TV is connected both to my TV and to my HiFi System. In order to listen to music, I always have to switch the TV on and navigate through the Apple TV Menu.
Would it be possible to select and play the music on my Apple TV directly through iTunes on my iMac which is synced to the Apple TV?
This way I wouldn't always have to turn the TV on and fiddle around with the tiny remote control, when I just want to listen to some music through my HiFi system.
Basically what I am looking for is to open iTunes on my Mac, click on Apple TV on the left under devices and just click on any title or playlist to play it over Apple TV.
Any ideas and help are greatly appreciated!
Sorry if I made it sound more complicated than it is, my english is not that fluent anymore...

Chenks and OP; yes, I do this a lot without the TV on. I just use the ATV as an Airtunes client sending the sound from iTunes to it with the remote speaker choice at the bottom right. Just turn on the amp, leave the TV off and navigate on the computer. But, the OP says he wants to choose a playlist etc under the ATV icon, that won't work, he'll have to make his music selections in iTunes as though he is using the computer to listen.

  • Can't get the Toslink (Optical) out to work with Airport Express

I have the monster cable hooked up but get no optical out. I hooked up the mini plug to RCA and that works but the optical doesn't. Is there a setting I'm missing. I know the cable is working because I hooked it up to my mini computer and get the red light coming out the end. I don't get any light from the airport expess mini plug to Toslink.

Same problem here. Just bought an optical cable with the mini toslink connector (to work with the express and computers). I can get audio if I connect the cable to my computer, but no audio from the express. Regular analog audio comes out fine, but I cannot get the optical to work.
I can't find any preference or setting to change and have tried resetting the base station. Anyone have an idea?

  • How can i check the devices which are connected with my AirPort Express?

I saw an unknown device in the app 'Who Uses My Wifi?', how can i check it through AirPort Utility and can i remove this device by the app?

    Open AirPort Utility
Hold down the option key on your Mac while you double click the picture of the AirPort router
Currently connected wireless ciients will be displayed
Don't forget about the wireless printer you might have, baby monitor, wireless thermostat and other items that connect using wireless. They will appear on your check.....not just computers or iPhones, etc.
If you have 3 wireless devices, and you see 4 devices connected, you may have an unwanted guest.
If you are using good wireless security, like WPA2 Personal, and a good password, it is extremely unlikely that another device will be on your network

  • Can I extend my network by connecting one of my airport express devices to my airport extreme via an ethernet cable? I have CAT5 cable throughout my house but have a wireless network w/ 3 airport expresses

Can I extend my wireless network by connecting one of my airport express devices to my airport extreme via an ethernet cable?  I have a wireless network with 3 airport expresses and 1 airport extreme functioning as the base station. I have CAT5 throughout my house.

    Welcome to the discussions, mib88!
Can I extend the network a second time with another Airport Express...
The short answer would be no. If you want more details, please continue to the next paragraph.
Apple's "extend a wireless network" works just like the hub and spokes of a wheel. Your main hub is either the Time Capsule or the AirPort Extreme and the AirPort Express is at the end of a spoke. You can add more devices at the ends of other spokes, but these devices will communicate directly to the hub, not to another device at the end of a spoke.
Apple does offer an option which is is known as a "static WDS", which can consist of a "main", "relay" and "remote" device. The problem here is that this type of setup has two huge drawbacks:
    1) All of your faster "n" devices will drop down to much slower "g" speeds
    2) The bandwidth or speed capability on the network will drop down to only 25% of the original bandwidth with a "main", "relay" and "remote" on the network.
Don't think you want this on your network. Your best option is to connect the new AirPort Express to the "hub" using an ethernet connection. If you can't run the ethernet cable, take a look at a pair of ethernet powerline adapters to accomplish the same task by sending the ethernet signal over the AC powerline in your home.

  • Hi, can i print to my HP5000n laser jet using iPhone & Airport Express?

hi, can i print to my HP5000n laser jet using iPhone connected to Airport Express. My Macbook pro with mountain lion is already hooked up and using this printer on Airport Express

You can go to the iTunes App Store and purchase a 3rd party App that provides support for the iPhone to wirelessly print via your Airport Express to the Printer.  You'll need to do d Search there.
    Hope this helps

  • Video streaming from iPhone to Apple TV only plays the sound.  How can I fix this?

Video Streaming using AirPlay from iPhone(5s) to Apple TV only plays the sound.   The TV screen goes blank when I choose AirPlay but only the sound plays.   How can I fix this?

Is this using a specific app or apps?  Not all apps support video out over AirPlay, the option is up to the app developer.

  • HT204291 Why I can' t hear the sound from my games while I am playing?

Why I can't here the sound when I am playing a game?

If you lose sounds for keyboard clicks, games or other apps, email notifications and other notifications, system sounds may have been muted.
System sounds can be muted and controlled two different ways. The screen lock rotation can be controlled in the same manner as well.
Settings>General>Use Side Switch to: Mute System sounds. If this option is selected, the switch on the side of the iPad above the volume rocker will mute system sounds.
If you choose Lock Screen Rotation, then the switch locks the screen. If the screen is locked, you will see a lock icon in the upper right corner next to the battery indicator gauge.
If you have the side switch set to lock screen rotation then the system sound control is in the task bar. Double tap the home button and in the task bar at the bottom, swipe all the way to the right. The speaker icon is all the way to the left. Tap on it and system sounds will return.
If you have the side switch set to mute system sounds, then the screen lock rotation can be accessed via the task bar in the same manner as described above.
