Can I put an imovie on a flash drive, and edit it on a different mac?

So i am doing a video project for school. We used imovie on a mac desktop to make and edit most of the video. unfortunatly, we are still not done and the girl who has the imac, is leaving for out of town. we were wondering if we put the imovie on a flash drive, can we then upload it onto a different mac (in our case a macbook laptop) and then continue editing? the flash drive is a brand new 8 GB flash drive so it has pleanty of room for our 5 minute video. We also do not have time to start over, with the deadline being very soon.
So will the flash drive trasportation work?
Is there even a way to transport the video over to a new computer?
Thank you everyone who will help me out!

Hi
My thoughts
A. Free Space on Start-Up (Boot, Macintosh HD) Hard Disk - must be 25Gb or more to let iDVD run OK
B. If DVD-burner doesn't work - then Save as a DiskImage - in DVD - to e.g. Desktop so it's easy to find
C. Format an USB-Memory stick (WILL ERASE IT to 100%) - AS - Mac OS Extended (hfs) ! ! !
( UNIX / DOS / FAT32 / Mac OS Exchange - WILL NOT WORK FOR THIS ! )
D, This .img file You just created can now be moved over to another Mac. Save it onto this Hard Disk
E. Burn the DVD - by using Disk Util tool - and burn the .img file onto a DVD
F. SET DOWN BURN SPEED to x2 or x4 MAX !
G. I only use Verbatim SL-DVD-R disks
Good Luck
Yours Bengt W

I have about 130 gigs of movies on my iTunes and was wondering if I can just put them on my backup hard drive and remove them from my main computer to free up the space.

I haven't done this with an external drive, but I would imagine it works the same way as if you have multiple internal drives.  Also hopefully it works with less headache in OSX than in windows.
Anyway, move all your music over to your external, and then go into itunes -> preferences -> advanced -> iTunes media folder location.  Navigate to your drive, and pick the folder you want.  Ensure that your folders are set up like they are in your ~/Music/iTunes folder, or wherever your iTunes is currently pointing.  Then quit and restart itunes.  If your music doesn't show up, try dragging your music folder from your external onto itunes, and it will hopefully update your library.xml.
As far as Jerry's problem goes, you could try adding another music folder to your library.xml, but I really have no idea whether this will work or not.  If you want to give it a try (can't promise you won't corrupt your library.xml, so make a copy beforehand) you can find the music folder xml element right near the top of the xml file (open it with textedit/textmate/whatever text editor you want (NOT WORD)).  Curious to know if this works, and if it doesn't I have other ideas so let me know.

  • I have an old iPod, first generation. I want to play a friend's music thru my Bose radio. I've emptied my iPod to my itunes library to allow space on the iPod. Question is: Can my friend put his music on a flash drive and somehow transfer to my computer.

I have an old iPod. First generation. I want to play a friend's music thru my Bose radio at an upcoming party.   (already use my Pod w/the radio). Ive emptied my iPod to my itunes library to make more room for additional music.
Question: Can I somehow download my friend's playlist - which is on a flashdrive, transfer it to my itunes and then transfer to the iPod??

If the Apple Store Genuis says you can't sync music from an audio CD to your iPod (because it's too old), he or she is not much of a "genius."
That question is not even related to your iPod.  First step is to "rip" the music CD into your iTunes library.  Once the songs on the CD are in your iTunes library, they are like any other songs in your library, and you can sync them to your iPod as desired.  This article seems to do a good job of describing how to rip CDs
    http://www.macworld.com/article/1156861/howto_rip_cds.html
NOTE:  When you insert a music CD, it appears in the iTunes sidebar, under DEVICES.  If you do not see the sidebar (along left side of window), from the iTunes menu bar, under View, select Show Sidebar.
It was the context of your original question, not the actual task.  You can easily add songs files that are on a flash drive to your iTunes library.  Open a window that shows the flash drive contents.  Drag the song files from that window to the iTunes window, and drop them on your iTunes Music library.  Or, use the command
iTunes menu bar -> File -> Add to Library...
NOTE:  Open your iTunes preferences, Advanced tab.  If the checkbox for Copy files to iTunes Media folder when adding to library is NOT checked, those songs from the flash drive will only be accessible (for playing and syncing) when the flash drive is connected.

  • Can you put an ibook onto a jump drive and let someone else edit it?

i want to give someone an iBook i have been working on. can i download it and put it on a jump drive and let them edit it?

Yes, as long as you give them the .iba file and they also have the iBA app.    .ibooks files, which you get when you export or publish, cannot be edited.

  • To save hard drive space, can I put my iMovie projects and clips on an external drive?

to save hard drive space, can I put my iMovie projects and clips on an external drive?

    Yes.
To preserve your projects, all moves should be done from within iMovie, (not the Finder).
First, the external drive must be formatted as Mac OS Extended (journaled). FAT32 will not work. You can reformat using Disk Utility if you need to.
When importing video from your camera, you can specify your external drive as the target on the import screen.
For existing projects, you should move using these instructions.
    http://help.apple.com/imovie/#move7d66613
There is an error in the instructions where it says to drag the project icon to the icon in the Event Library. You should instead look for your hard drive icon in the Project Library.
You can move events using these instructions.
    http://help.apple.com/imovie/#mov3ac6d42c
If you want to move Events, and copy photos, copy music, etc for editing on another Mac, you should use the FILE/CONSOLIDATE MEDIA feature after moving the Project as above.

  • How can I open encrypted files from a flash drive?

I moved transferred files from my work PC to a flash drive and had to encrypt them using Credant.  I know the password but can't find a way to decrypt the files on my mac...

You can use a USB flash drive & the camera connection kit.
Plug the USB flash drive into your computer & create a new folder titled DCIM. Then put your movie/photo files into the folder. The files must have a filename with exactly 8 characters long (no spaces) plus the file extension (i.e., my-movie.mov).
Now plug the flash drive into the iPad using the camera connection kit. Open the Photos app, the movie/photo files should appear & you can import.

  • Does anyone know how to put Itunes music into a flash drive?

I'm trying to put my music from my Mac Book Pro into a flash drive so I can play it in the car.

    cristian19862 wrote:
    how can I do that?
Highlight the tracks you want in your iTunes library.  Insert the flash drive into your computer, open it so it looks like a folder, and simply drag the highlighted tracks to it.
This puts a copy of each file onto your flash drive, and does not change anything in your library.
If you normally run iTunes in full screen mode, make it smaller so you can do the drag,

  • Can't move my iMovie file to external drive

I just finished creating an iMovie file. When I try to move it to an external drive, I get an "unexpected error file (Error code 0).
When I try to "save as" to my external, I get the message: "A Project File is Missing. The file "Clip 05.dv could not be opened and is being skipped." I rebooted, tried again and got the same result. This has never happened to me before - and I need to move it to another machine that has double layer DVD capabilities. Any suggestions?

    Possible work-arounds:
    1. Share (export) the iMovie back to your camcorder and either use that DV tape to import it into another computer, or re-import it into a new iMovie. You can open the new iMovie on your external drive by selecting that when the opening box appears.
    2. Share the iMovie as QuickTime Full quality and then put that quicktime movie into a new iMovie on the external drive. This one requires that you have sufficient drive space to create the quicktime movie.
Either method, you need to be finished with your editing because the edits will be incorporated into the movie. The quicktime movie will be one long clip.
And, as recommended, be sure the external is formatted correctly.

Hold down the Option key while you boot your Mac. Then, it should show you a selection of devices. Click your flash drive and it will boot from that.

Been in the iMac world now all of 2 days.  I'm glad to have USB capability.  I downloaded photos from a Centron flash drive and now need to remove the flash drive.  Do you eject flash drives on iMacs as we did on PC's?  Can't find an answer in the support area.  Thanks...

Yes. All external drives regardless of how they are connected must be ejected before they can be unplugged.

  • As a grand parent, how can I put some apps on an ipod touch and then give it as a gift?

As a grand parent, how can I put some apps on an ipod touch and then give it as a gift?

Apps and many other purchases are tied to the iTunes Store account via which they were purchased. So if you buy the app, that app is tied to your iTunes Store account. Without that account information, the child could not update the app nor back it up.
I'd also suggest giving the child an iTunes gift card or gift certificate along with the iPod. If the child is too young to have and manage his or her own iTunes Store account, then his or her parent could set up an iTunes Store account to purchase the apps. That could be done with that gift card and not need a credit card. You can also gift specific apps, though again that would require the child or a parent to open an iTunes Store account through which to redeem the gift. For more information on gift options, see:

Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
    1. Quit iPhoto
    2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
    3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
    4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.

  • Can I save a project on a flash drive with the videos that are in the project and edit on any computer with premiere pro?

I am trying to edit a home and school and need to edit all the time. Can i save my project file on my flash drive with all the videos and use the flash drive for editing on any computer?

IF all computers are on the exact same build of PrPro. Understand of course that if everything of the project is on one flashdrive, performance in playback & etc. with much in the way of effects or tons of cuts is going to be ... s l o w . But perhaps doable on say a school project, which probably doesn't have the total assets of say a season-length tv sitcom.
