Can I remove red eye in Final Cut Pro X?
I've imported over a thousand pictures from iPhoto of my trip to California, and was wondering if I could remove red eye from photos without having to go back to iPhoto, fix the red eye, then reimport.

Many of the Pro users are (rightly IMO) very ticked off with FCP X as it no longer supports many important Pro features that they use daily and is currently unsuitable for use by many for commercial/professional work.
(For hobbyists/amateurs, myself included, it will probably do very nicely as a step up from basic video editors available on the Mac and at a fraction of the price of the old suite which I couldn't justify buying).

Removing FCE but leaving Final Cut Pro
I have both Final Cut Express and Final Cut Pro installed on my computer. I no longer use Final Cut Express. I downloaded the program "FCS Remover". Apparently it will remove both FCE and Final Cut Pro. There is no option to only remove one of those programs. Is there a way to remove only FCE while leaving Final Cut Pro on the computer? I would also like to remove Soundtrack but keep Soundtrack Pro. I guess if all else fails, I can remove both programs and then reinstall Final Cut Pro.
Here is an Apple Knowledgebase article that includes instructions on manually removing FCE. Pretty straightforward.
There is also a more detailed but older set of Apple instructions for removing FCE. Still applicable for FCE 4. Note, however, that since you have FCP also installed, if you follow this document, you should be careful NOT to remove items that may also be in use by FCP. They'll be pretty obvious. -
I can't get my projects in Final Cut Pro X to work in 1080p. One turned out to be 1080p by "accident" but I did everything the same as the ones that did not. Same camera/settings (shot in 60i). I didn't really care cause I had to get some stuff done, but now I know I "can" dp them in HD but can't figure why the one went up to YT in full HD (and made a copy in my movies folder. That one project acted totally different than the other 5 but I didn't change anything. Can't get it to work again. ***? Any ideas?
No problem! If you're worried about more complicated edits (which in all honesty, should work no matter how many clips you select or how many effects are attached to them), you can always compound a clip first, and then copy it over after if you're afraid of lots of track clutter getting in the way. Not sure if they would break apart afterwards though if you wanted them to.

Can not import MXF files into Final Cut Pro
I am full of anger and frustration!!! I purchased final cut pro only to find out that it WILL NOT import MXF files. How insane is that? ADOBE - NO PROBLEM. Then I had to go back to YOUR STORE and buy two different file converter applications before I found one that worked. Now FINAL CUT PRO will only import the audio segment of converted files after converting to PRORES in PAVTUBE. Are you BUCKING kidding me? This work flow BLOWS. Why the FELL does this have to be sooooo hard! I am gone to creative cow and other forums to try to find out why I am sooo stupid that I can't get this simple process sorted out. YOU BUCKING MONEY MACHINE! How many more aps will I have to buy before I can edit CANON XF100 files in Final Cut Pro. BUCK politics! You should make your software with plugins that would allow you to edit without this kind of added step. JUST LIKE ADOBE. I want refunds for my final cut pro purchase. This is BUCKING rediculous. What a waste of time!

There is definite upside to dragging one's feet on upgrades until necessary and this is a prime example. On a desktop running 10.6, and the XF Utility, FCP 7 L&T works reliably. And like you, that's my workflow for FCPX projects. Running 10,7 on a laptop, the EOS plug-in works well for FCPX imports – no workarounds needed. When I finally get around to updating, I will partition the HD, with one SL partition and the other partition with a later OS. Of course this strategy will work only as long as my hardware holds up.

Can I mute all audio from Final Cut Pro X?
Can I mute all audio from Final Cut Pro X so that I can listen to music while I do sorting, keywording, favoriting, etc? I'm doing a video where all the camera audio won't be used anyways, so I don't need to hear it in FCPX.. I'd rather just listen to my music instead. Thanks.
For clips in the timeline, andynick's suggestion works fine - temporarily disable the audio roles will play everything without audio and you just have to reenable these roles later.
For clips in the Event Browser, you can also disable and reenable audio for a bunch of clips all at once. Select the all the clips you want, open the inspector, click the audio tab and uncheck the box (for "stereo" or "mono" or whatnot) under "Channel Configuration". Again, to reenable just check this box again. -
I shot video on a Panasonic P2 and I'm trying to import the MXF files to Final Cut Pro but when I try to import, the only thing that imports is a blurry image of each clip. There's no audio and no video...how can I import MXF files into Final Cut Pro?

So im safer using footage that is remotely being pulled from iphoto...

using footage that is imported into FCP from imovie?
Is there anything i can do in fcp to make this footage more reliable or safer or more stable as i pull remotely from iphoto?

What are you trying to achieve? Are you editing movies as a hobby? Or trying to build a business – and, if so, what kind?
iMovie is the first thing that comes to mind. Not the depth of FCPX, but it can still do some excellent work.

Look at this technical specs document, your system should be fine with the possible exception of Color.
As for managing your preference files, use Digital Rebellion's tool.

FCP crashed like 5 times in 6 hours. I'm now heavily relied on autosave.
I was copying a multi-cam clip that was marked IN and OUT in timeline. As soon as I press CMD+C, beachball appeared, then FCP crashed.
Sometimes I would just making an edit and it would just crash.
Other times it would crash while I was creating a multicam-clip.
I'm editing a feature length movie and I have tons of ProRess422 footage. I also have some h.264 from Canon 5D Mark II and DVCPROHD imported into bins. All multicam clips are in ProRes422. -
How can I restart media import in final cut pro?
The operation of background activities on Final Cut Pro is often convenient, except when an import gets interrupted by an inadvertant media removal. I usually have multiple SD cards connected to my Mac doing imports, and if I have more media than I have adapters/slots to connect them with, I will invariably unplug the wrong card, and interrupt an import that is in progress. When I put the card back in, there is nothing that I can see to "restart" the import of that media where it left off at, or at least start over, and overwrite any incomplete files. Instead, it seem that I need to import the card into a new event, and then use finder to then move the media files into the old event folder structure. Only then, can I get something that seems to work.
Is there some other way to reliably restart the import, or otherwise force the import to actually work? It seems that if I try to import to the same event, again, I see the animation of the closing file selection dialog toward the events, but the background tasks window shows no activity, and I don't see anything ever complete as an import.
This, also blocks any attempt to "share" the project too, because it keeps complaining about an import which has not finished, and thus the project is still referencing "media on the camera" . That limitation has got to go away too! I really want to construct my project, share it, and move on. Waiting for media to "import" when I actually can construct the project with the preliminary media view doesn't make sense. Even if importing needs to happen for conversion/rendering for the share, just do that in the background. Let me say "share", and go do something else with my time!
I have submitted feedback on this, but if anyone has pointers of simplifying import from SD cards that would be great!Select the photos you want rotated, open the Inspector (command-4). In the Video section of the Inspector, hover your mouse near the Transform and click show if it's not already open. The rotation setting is in there.

Can I move video files from Final Cut Pro to iMovie?
I've used iMovie forever, and I just bought Final Cut Pro. I uploaded video for a new movie into FCP, but I have an urgent need to get this movie done and don't have time to learn Final Cut Pro to do it. Can I move my video files from FCP over to iMovie 10.0.6? Or do I need to reload the raw video to iMovie?
No you will have to import your clips again into iMovie 10. Projects can only be transferred from iMovie 10 to FCPX and not the other way.

How can I get a version of Final Cut Pro X that works on OS Mountain Lion?
I just downgraded my laptop to its original OS (Lion) and will be upgrading soon to Mountain Lion because this laptop is too old to work with Mavericks or Yosemeti. So far Final Cut Pro X, Motion and Compressor (which I had originally purchased when I first bought the computer) do not work. Will Final Cut Pro X work on Mountain Lion? If not, what can I do to get a version that will work?

At the time it was written it was apparently possible to download from the app store with a computer running ML. Maybe this is still the case.
FCP 10.1. has video requirements which are not met by older machines. I'm not sue about 10.0.9 but that might possibly be a 'gotcha'
I'm a bit confused though since if you downgraded you laptop to Lion but Mountain Lion is the latest OS it will run then you must have been running ML already

Can I use Motion 5 without Final Cut Pro but maybe for iMovie?

ThanksStelo08, yes, Motion will export in a handful of formats.
h264 is the most popular, but did not support transparency, which you would likely want if you wanted to do lower thirds (titles).
Motion will export in prores 444 which which supports transparency, but I do not know if it works in imovie.
(I tried it in Camtasia 2.3 and it did not there, but it seemed to work in ScreenFlow 4.03)
Additionally, you can import video footage into Motion, so worst case scenario, you could pull a shorter scene into motion, do your overlays, export that scene and then add it back into imovie. -

You don't need to use Compressor. In FCP, Share>You Tube and then choose the quality setting you want.
Alternatively you can use Compressor to give you more control over your settings. If so, choose Share and either export a master file and bring that into Compressor…or SHare>Add Destination>Compressor settings.

Share option for email does not work after Yosemite upgrade.
Hi, Does anybody know why the share option, "Share via email" does not work anymore after Yosemite upgrade? I love this feature. It's just quick and easy. Rod.

Final Cut Pro X (10.1.1) can't be opened because "the image is not recognized".
I have tried to download the trail version of Final Cut Pro X (10.1.1) twice but every time it has been downloaded my computer tells me it can't be opened because "the image is not recognized". Do any of you have a similar problem or know a solution?
