Can I reset my search engine to Wikipedia? I don't want any of those default Search Engines anymore they are too intrusive. And I can not Empty Cache any more and Google has taken over the address bar?

Can someone please explain how this now works? And am I obligated to load Mountain Lion. It's a very expensive price to pay for online privacy that isn't even Private anymore. I am old enough that I don't have to pay ransome. I can just quit.
I didn't say and was never asked If I wanted Mountain Lion. I can no longer 'Empty Cache' at the end of a session online and when I do a search now (and this has all changed overnight) the query is typed into what used to be the address bar and when the search results appear, after reading the first result and I want to read the second or fifth or Any of the other results of the query I am forced to resubmit the search in the address bar because the 'Page Back' button has been removed and the Little Red Dot closes the Search Results Page altogether.
What else am I in for with Mountain Lion? I already know that I do NOT want anything to do with iCloud. I am willing to bet a lot of money that a pharmaceutical company one day is going to be holding me for ransome with a new drug that was created out of the symptoms of a once - upon - a - time naturally occuring symptom of aging. At least I can turn my Macbook off and leave it that way and the world will not cease to exist. (Or will it?)

Get a bootable, external HD (preferably FireWire, since it's 40-50% faster than USB 2 and designed for data transfers), make a bootable backup/clone before updating/upgrading, using something like Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper!, and ensure that it's bootable and works like the original. That allows you to revert to the previous good state without having to reinstall or reset anything. See these for details:

Conduit search has taken over my address bar.

If I type anything into the address bar, links to bing searches for websites come up. If I make an error in the address, I am sent to bing.
Virus scan finds no issues. Ad-aware puts a Win32 file in quarantine, but it doesn't have an impact on the address bar issue. I have NO add ons, toolbars, or winzip software on my computer.

Do you display the built-in Firefox search bar? Generally speaking the address bar follows your selection there. By default, the selection is Google (you'll see the lower-case g on a blue square).

I need to downsize phots to publish on a website but they are too big . In help it says when I select a photo it gives me the option to downsize. It does NOT. ?

This is the iPhoto for iOS forum. Are you asking about iPhoto on your Mac?
In iPhoto on your Mac select Export and you will have the option to select a size for your photo.
In iPhoto for iOS this capability is not there. I use PhotoForege2 on my iPad to resize my photos to meet the requirements you describe.

I've lost the menu bar and Ask has taken over the front page.

Something was down loaded yesterday and Ask Jeeves appears to have come with it. I can't get back to my orginal Firefox front page and have lost all my toolbars. I have uninstalled Ask but it is still there even though it has gone from my program list. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Mozilla four times but still Ask is at the front with everything else missing

Press F10 or tap the Alt key to bring up the "Menu Bar" temporarily.

Apple has taken over my Address Book!

Not an earth shattering problem, but nonetheless irritating and having trolled the Forum, I have not discovered a fix. Whenever I open an email newsletter in my Mail Inbox pertaining to Apple, e.g.,Macworld, Apple eNews, there is an immediate <Apple Computer Inc> entry in my Address Book.
Thoughts and solution please? I am preparing myself to be hugely humiliated by some obvious explanation!!

The first time Address Book is launched, An Apple Computer card is inserted into it. There is one for different regions of the world, and the files come from /System/Library/Frameworks/AddressBook.framework/Resources . The one for United States users is named TipCards-us.vcf .
If the Address Book preferences are corrupted or removed, another Apple Computer card will be inserted when the preferences are re-created.

VPND has taken over the server!

Two instances of VPND are running in the Activity Monitor. They are using up all the processor, and gigs of ram! Whenenver I try to end either process, it just restarts. This problem has rendered the server unusable, as the processor is tied up with these VPNDs. Help! How do I stop these things?

After reading my post, I realized more info was needed. VPN service is turned OFF in the Server Admin. Its not even checked on in the Services List.

If BearShare is an extension, you can go into ''Tools > Add-ons > Extensions'' to disable or uninstall it.
If it's a plugin, go into ''Tools > Add-ons > Plugins'', where you can disable it. To uninstall it completely, you need to contact its author for support, as it's done outside the browser. In case it's a plugin.

A search engine called DynaSearch has taken over fire fox without my permission

I think My brother has attacked my computer, he found my note book and i now have 160 spam when I had only about ten before, and even an xxx dating service used my daughters name to make me click to their site, saying," Sheila has a message for you". Since then fire fox started crashing every ten minutes, and now it's not crashing because a site called DynaSearch has taking over the usual Google trademark that used to apesr on my page, this is a search engine that has taken over Fire Fox without my permission correct. How do I get Fire Fox back, and get them off.

Do a malware check with some malware scan programs. 
You need to scan with all programs because each program detects different malware. 
Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of the database before doing a scan.

BearShare has taken over browser page. How do I get rid of it?

I stupidly download BearShare. I have uninstalled it in all the usual places but it has taken over the firefox opening page of Google with a BearShare one. The problem is not on the laptop I am using but on a new Acer laptop with Windows 7. Help!

The safest and most thorough way of cleaning it out of your system is to download Revo Uninstaller, run it in advanced mode and press delete all when prompted. Do NOT go messing about in your registry unless you are a real expert. The other way is to go into system restore and tell your computer to restore to a date & time before you downloaded Bearshare. Just remember that any software you installed since that date will be deleted so back it up first. Good luck. Bearshare is a pain in the Jacksy!

The address bar is not displaying the URL of the page

When I open a tab, I cannot see the URL of the opened page in it. If I enter a new address and press enter, I go to the page. The URL displays the entered URL, but doesn't change for the new pages that load.
Also, the back/forward buttons do not work. I'm guessing it's related to the address bar issue.

How do I get rid of a search engine that has taken over home page?

Search.US.com has taken over my hone page and everything else it can. I have tried all the suggestions available to me by the help section. I have went so far as to delete cookies. This is very invasive. I looked at restoring the system but have few options for recovery points and they don't include the search engine download. I removed the add on it came with as well. I had removed the search engine in add/remove programs and was stupid when it asked if I wanted the default settings restored. I said no. I'm afraid I am j pretty stupid when it comes to software. I hope someone can help me. Thank you for your time in this matter. ps I put what I thought was relevant in the bottom box. I had not seen this before. I tried to modify it but couldn't.

I finally got a hold of someone at that search us.com. They gave me this link to try and solve the problem. I have already reinstalled firefox but it might help someone else out. And it's much simpler. I haven't tried it but they said to get a hold of them if it didn't work. the link is:
