Can I run an iMac G3 266 in Kiosk mode?

I have an old iMac G3 266 that I want to donate to the local YMCA.
They need something to have for members to complete an online form.
The computer is running OS 8.6.
Is there a way I can:
1) Run it in kiosk mode and have it go to one website
OR
2) Upgrade it to OS X and run it in kiosk mode
Thanks,
Kevin

I suggest checking out iCab. See icab.de
"Kiosk mode
While in Kiosk mode, iCab will cover the whole screen and all other applications are blocked. The Kiosk mode is the ideal environment when the computer is accessing a public place (like fairs, exhibitions, hotels etc.) where users should be able to obtain information, yet prevent any external access to your system. Additionally, the access can be restricted to certain pages (even refusing referrals, if you choose)."

  • Can Panther run Intel iMac?

I have a 20" flat screen Intel-based iMac. It came with Leopard and runs great (10.5.6). This computer replaces an older crt iMac which had a maximum OS capability of OS 10.3.9. I use Vectorworks 10 Mechanical cad software, published by Nemetschek. It runs fine on 10.3.9. They are not planning on making it compatible with Leopard and want me to purchase their $700 upgrade instead, even though I've been a loyal user for 15 years and have upgraded many times previously. I tried to start-up the new iMac from an external 750 GB LaCie harddrive on which I installed the OS 10.3.9 system from the original cds, but the Preference panel did not recognize that there was an external drive with this OS on it. The old iMac boots just fine from the LaCie so I know that the 10.3.9 is installed correctly on it. The icon for the LaCie drive, and all the other documents installed on it, appear on the new iMac's screen and can be opened without any problems-it's just that it seems that the new iMac Preference panel doesn't want to acknowledge there is a drive connected to it that has the OS 10.3.9 available. Can the new iMac run on 10.3.9? What is the minimum (oldest) OS that this new iMac can run on?

Can the new iMac run on 10.3.9?
No. 10.3.x will not run on any Intel-based Mac.
What is the minimum (oldest) OS that this new iMac can run on?
Adding to what Kappy said, only the specific version of Leopard that came with the system or a later release will work. An earlier version of the OS will not have the drivers to run your iMac's hardware.

  • Can i run an iMac lying down? and what ventilation do i need for it to run inside a road case?

I am planning to build an all in one roadcase for all my equipment that is plug and play for touring. I've got a 27" i7 iMac and want to run it lying down inside the roadcase.
I want to know if an iMac is can be run laying down or will this harm it?
And how i would tackle issues of overheating if the imac is running enclosed? (vents etc)
Any help or advise would be great. I'm not sure if anyone will be able to help me but its worth a shot.
    Thanks

I am not 100% sure of this but there is a fan inside the imac which is designed to suck air in from the bottom and blow it out the top.  To some degree I think it also depends on convection currents (i.e., depending on heat rising).  So laying it on its side sounds like a bad idea to me.

  • Can I run an Imac on just an external hard drive via USB 3.0?

I erased the internal hard drive to clean install Yosemite (from Snow Leopard) but  now it's not visible in disk utility. Got an external drive with Yosemite to boot and run on my Mac (2010 21.5" 4gb ram, Core i3). Can I use a usb 3.0 external drive to replace the HDD? Looking to use a WD My Studio that runs at 7200 rpm. Only issue I have is the fan is on constantly. How long can I get away using the external drive before I have to replace the internal drive?

Take care of the problem now. You can continue to use the external drive, but you will need to use fan control software to deal with the fan.
    Macs Fan Control 1.1.12.2
    HDD Fan Control 2.5

  • Stored Proc can't run psexec to remote server but SQLCMD mode can - help?

I'm really hoping someone can help with my Access Denied issue issuing an xp_cmdshell "psexec" that otherwise works in SQLCMD Mode and the command line.  Any help would really be appreciated.
    The setup:
    Server 1.1.1.1:
I have a db MYDB (trustworthy, I'm an admin logging in using Windows Authentication)
I have psexec (running as admin, "everyone" has full-control from G:\
    Server 1.1.2.1:
I have application ABC.exe (again, running as admin, "everyone" has full-control) on E:\Program Files
    The problem
I can start ABC.exe from      1.1.1.1 from my command prompt for my user:
    psexec.exe
    \\1.1.2.1 -d -u DOMAIN\USER -p PASSWORD
    "E:\Program Files\ABC.exe" /accepteula
I can start ABC.exe from      1.1.1.1 from SSMS using the SQLCMD Mode:
    !!G:\psexec.exe
    \\1.1.2.1 -d -u DOMAIN\USER -p PASSWORD
    "E:\Program Files\ABC.exe" /accepteula
    I
cannot get the command to run by      calling it from
    a stored procedure or trigger:
    EXEC xp_cmdshell 'G:\psexec.exe
    \\1.1.2.1 -d -u DOMAIN\USER -p PASSWORD
    "E:\Program Files\ABC.exe" /accepteula'
    I
cannot get ABC.exe to start on the      remote machine
by putting in the working command from #1 above into a batch file and calling that, either!
    Thanks in advance,
    Dave

    OK, thanks.
MORE INFORMATION: SQL is SQL 2012, two machines are WINDOWS SERVER 2012
I realize I'm probably treading in dangerous waters here, but I try to set the xp_cmdshell proxy account to two different users and I'm getting different results.
Here's my two blocks of sql code:
GRANT EXECUTE ON xp_cmdshell TO [DOMAIN\user1]
    EXEC xp_cmdshell 'whoami'
    EXEC sp_xp_cmdshell_proxy_account 'DOMAIN\user1','pwd1'
    EXECUTE AS login = 'DOMAIN\user1'
    EXEC xp_cmdshell 'whoami'
    EXEC xp_cmdshell 'G:\psexec.exe \\1.1.2.1 DOMAIN\user1 -p pwd1 "E:\Program Files\ABC.exe" /accepteula'
    REVERT
GRANT EXECUTE ON xp_cmdshell TO [DOMAIN\user2]
    exec xp_cmdshell 'whoami'
    EXEC sp_xp_cmdshell_proxy_account 'DOMAIN\user2','pwd2'
    EXECUTE AS login = 'DOMAIN\user2'
    exec xp_cmdshell 'whoami'
    EXEC xp_cmdshell 'G:\psexec.exe \\1.1.2.1 DOMAIN\user2 -p pwd2 "E:\Program Files\ABC.exe" /accepteula'
    REVERT
And the results are (1) unexpected in terms of who the cmdshell user is and (2) the two executions are different failures:
Results from ALL the exec xp_cmdhell  'whoami' is DOMAIN\user3!
And the two different outputs (after both "Access is denied.") are

I'm sure there's a clue in this output somewhere, it's just evading me.  I'm guessing there's something missing on the remote machine's security, but....

  • How can I run Safari version 8 in 32 bit mode?

I have a business application which requires Safari to run in 32 bit mode (Oracle E-Business).  Before the holiday I upgraded from version 7 (which worked fine) to version 8 (which no loner works).  I don't believe version 8 supports 32 bit mode.  Is there a way to 'downgrade' back to version 7?

Thanks for you response.  Just to clarify, when I upgraded to Yosemite, Safari was upgraded to 8.0 with 64 bit mode only?  If this is the case, that helps me in my troubleshooting process with E-Business.

  • Can I run Firefox 7 in a 32-bits mode with Windows 7 64-bits?

I use a lot of web based programs that will only work in a 32-bits enviroment.

Current Firefox versions on the Windows platform are only available official as 32 bit versions, so that shouldn't be a problem.

Hi, Can you help me I am running an iMac 10.7.5 and iPad 6.0.1 and a macair10.8.2. iCloud is syncing emails and notes but not photos. Photo streaming is switched on on the iMac. what do I need to do to stream photos?

Hi you have basicly 2 Options.
1 -if you Switch One fotostream on all 3 devices of yours which are working on the same apple id -all Fotos you Take with your iPad will be synchronized via icloud to the other 2 decvices ( w-lan and battery depending).
2- If you select foots or a whole album in iPhoto on your air or iMac and choose than puplish --> fotostream --> new or existing event you can key in a friends mail. If this friend has iCloud and iPhoto ( for iMac or MacBook ) and click on the link in the email it will download this fotos in the fotostream section in iPhoto. If he has a iPad, iPhone,... It will do it in the foto app and if he doesn't have a iCloud account at all and you choose "public web site" while publishing he can see your fotostream on a website.

  • Can I run two Dell 24" monitors with iMac 27" (5750) in portrait mode

Hi there, want to putchase the 5750-based iMac 27", but I have a pair of Dell 24" monitors I want to run with it, preferably both in portrait mode. Is this possible? Or if not, is it possible with some sort of adaptor/external graphics card?
    Thanks kindly for any help:)
    Shawn

    HI Shawn Glibson,
the imac has one video output. a 30 dollar adapter can be used to hook up a DVI display. (mini-display to dv adapter)
But you can add additional displays through a USB to DVI adapter. For instance see2 xtreame uv200 http://www.trittontechnologies.com/index.php/products/usbvideotechnology/see2-xtreme-uv200/ This is a great solution if you want to have another display for websites, office documents. a USB to DVI adapter isn't that great for 3D games.
    I hope that helps

  • IMac can't running any two fire wire hard disks at the same time . which

iMac can’t running any two fire wire hard disks at the same time . which two hard disks have extra power from power socket . If i just insert one of them .No problem . If connect two Hds at the same time. Leopard cant find it and the Hds seem no problem. the machine must be restarted and then use one . No problem . I have formated the HD many times .even if which format is Fat 32 or Mac issue persists .Boot from installation CD used the disk utility . Issue stills . If i used one fire wire HD that get power from power socket and used one fire wire device . Leopard was no problem during this time . Whether is this design problem or my machine hardware problem? My Mac has been changed the logic board by Apple service . Do you have similar case in here????

  • How can i get my Imac, running OSX 10.6.8 with a 2Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo, how can i get Final Cut Pro 4 and DVD studio pro 2 to run on it?

I just bought an IMAC running OSX 10.6.8 (not sure what flavor that is). The processor is 2Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo (Late 2006). When i run Final Cut Pro 4 on it I get the following error.
                        "Configuration error
This software requires certain hardware or software which is missing
                                    * AGP graphics Card"
If Final Cut Pro 4 doesn't run on my system, what version of Final Cut can I run on this as I am a filmmaker and really am comfortable with Final Cut Pro.
On the same note I also have DVD studio Pro 2 and that just quits without any message.
Hope any of you can be some help.
    Thank you,
    Doug

This is my first mac in a long time so i'm not sure about what this mac is as i didn't buy this from apple (ala Amazon). I'm a tad confused about the Intel/PowerPC thing. I do know the software version for sure, but the Intel/PowerPC is very confusing. I just need to find someone who would know about this question. It doesn't say G5 on this computer. Thats my biggest confusion. Help Me...

  • My iMac running Mountain Lion can't see my iMac running Snow Leopard on my network.

My iMac running Mountain Lion can't see my iMac running Snow Leopard on my network.  Both Macs work fine and the SL Mac can see and connect to the ML Mac.

    There isn't a script.
Mail connects to any standard email server.
Open the Connection Doctor from the Window menu.
Click Show Details and Check Again.
What errors does it post trying to connect to your email provider.
I dont' think there is any personal information in the output, but you might want to sanitize the output in a text editor before posting the output here in case there is a login user name or something like that.
