Can I share my internet connection from macbook pro to macbook air?

Hello.
I've tried to share my internet connection using wifi, two computers were connected with each other, but one had not internet connection. What can I do to fix it, and have internet access on both computers?

It's actually even easier than that....
I never had to create an adhoc network.

  • How can i share my internet connection from macbook pro to my iphone?

    i need your help..

On your MBP, from the Apple menu, select System Preferences, click the Sharing icon, and then click Internet Sharing. Select the way your computer is connected to the Internet under "Share your connection from" (ethernet probably), In the "To computers using", select the WiFi check box.
Click the WiFi Options button and assign your new network a name. Turn on encryption if you like, enter a password, and click OK.
Back in the Sharing pane, click the Start button in the Internet Sharing section.
(to turn sharing off, go to the same place and click stop.)
On your iPhone, turn on WiFi under Settings > WiFi
Your iPhone serches for WiFi networks and yours should pop up with the name you gave it. If you turned on encryption (which you should to protect your data) enter the password and click Join.

  • Can I tether the internet connection from a smartphone to my iPod?

    Hello everyone,
I own iPod Touch 4 with iOS 4.3.3 (8J2). I want my iPod be able to connect to the internet when WiFi broadcasting is not available around while I am on the go.
So my question is: Can I tether the internet connection from a smartphone to my iPod? With which smartphone or mobile OS other than iPhone/iOS?
I don't want to JB my iPod Touch.
I heard that smartphones with Android can tether the internet connection to iPod Touch, bu I am not sure, I searched the internet but couldn't find anything as I wanted.
    Thanks, regards.

I've got a (now considered ancient) Nokia N95 8 GB mobile, with the app JoikuSpot Light on it - has been working really well though I wouldn't suggest buying Nokia if you were going to buy a new mobile...if you happen to get your hands on an old-ish Nokia or Ericsson (Symbian platform) Joiku will do a good job of creating a wifi hotspot. • I cannot share my Internet connection from my Mac to my iPhone

When I enter the Sharing settings the box with "share you connection from" only gives me the chance of sharing from WIFI or from Bluetooth PAN, which I have no clue what is. So I assume that it is WIFI I have to click as it is a WIFI connection I want to share with my iPhone from my Mac.
In the box "To Computers using" I only get the chance of marking one box next to "Bluetooth PAN". If I do not check this box, the whole box called "Internet Sharing" is greyed out and I cannot check it. I check the Bluetooth PAN box and it says Internet sharing is on. However, I cannot find the signal on my iPhone?!
    ANY IDEAS?
    Oh, I use OS X 10.8.2
    Any help is much appreciated!
    Thanks

If your computer is already connected to WIFI, and your iPhone can also connect to that same WIFI signal, why would anyone want to enable sharing? That would be completely redundant. You share from the router.
If, on the otherhand you are trying to tether your Mac to your phone, all tethering settings are done on the phone, provided you have the service enablked by your phone carrier. Then, you are simply going to use the Bluetooth connection to tether the mac to the phone.

  • Can I share my internet connection via wifi AND use my wireless printer at the same time?

Not completely familiar with  wifi capabilities. I have this new setup in my office. I want to share my iMac internet connection via wifi so I can text and check emails using my iPhone (no cell service inside the building). Which works fine. However, I now cannot print wirelessly to my HP printer (LaserJet Pro 400 color). Once Internet sharing is off, I can print just fine. Any other wireless options, or just go get a long USB cable?

    Hi,
It is not a multitasking printer, other devices may keep it therefore the best option in this case: connect it to your wireless router and all devices which are conntected to this router can sahre the printer.
    Regards.

  • Can't share hotel internet connection

I can only connect to the hotel internet when I have the Airport Express connection sharing setting in 'Off (Bridge Mode)'. In this mode my iPod Touch can see the network and connect but requires its own daily payment for internet. Needless to say I'd like to share, and only pay for, a single connection.
If I put the Airport Express in 'Share a public IP address' mode neither device can connect to the internet.
    Any suggestions?

Hello Peter Goudron. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
It appears that the hotel is providing it's own router for Internet service, which is typical. When configuring the AirPort Express Base Station (AX) as a bridge, you are "passing thru" the hotel's NAT & DHCP service to any wireless device connected to the AX. Also, typical, is that the hotel will require a connection charge for each device that is accessing their network.
Re-configuring the AX to be a stand-alone router should work as the hotel's router would only provide (and see) one IP address. I'm not sure why this isn't working for you ...

  • How can i share my internet connection

I'm having problems sharing my internet connection wirelessly (from my netgear router) with my TV via the AX.
I've managed to setup the Airtunes - streamling nicely through the house.
But under the internet options, sharing and the bridge option are disabled (greyed out).
    Please advise. Many thanks.

To enable the AXn's Ethernet port, it would need to be reconfigured as an Ethernet bridge. Apple calls this configuration a ProxySTA.
To activate ProxySTA, you must set up the Express to join a wireless network and then enable the Allow Ethernet Clients setting; both settings are located in the Wireless tab of AirPort Utility. The feature should work with any wireless network: a, b, g, or n; and 5GHz or 2.4GHz.

  • Can't share my Internet connection - Can't create Wifi network

    Hi!
I'm struggling to get my Mac Mini A1176 with 10.7 to create a Wifi hotspot. When I try, either through Internet Sharing or by manually choosing create network, it says "can't connect", and fails to create the hotspot.
The only strange thing I can find, is that when I get the screen where I can choose network name, channel and security, channel is blank. I can't choose channel, the only option is the sign: -
Anyone else seen this? Doesn't the A1176 support Adhoc networks?

It's actually even easier than that....
I never had to create an adhoc network.

  • How do I share an Internet connection from my iPad to my computer?

My ADSL is down and I need to get my computer on to the Internet. Can I use the Personal Hot Spot of my iPhone or iPad to accomplish this?

    I recently signed up for FreedomPop.com. http://www.freedompop.com
FreedomPop provides 500meg of free 4g cellular data per month!  You do need to buy their wireless device at $39.  Your machine needs wifi capability. There are ways of getting bonus megs.  One gig of addition data costs $10 per month.  I used about 15megs per hour of lite internet surfing.
When signing up, you need to be careful with your selections.  On some screens, the free option is a small link below the large button.  FreedomPop employs a Pavlovian Dog < Operant conditioning > thing of getting you used to clicking on the large button then they change the large button to a paid add-on.
Once you setup your account, you need to go to your account options screen to turn off automatic paid data download once you exceed your quota.
The performance seems a little slower than my DSL connection.

  • When I'm out of range for Wi-Fi on iPad, can I use the Internet connection from my iPhone 5?

I only get Internet on my iPad when I have my wireless router. When I'm out if range can I piggyback with my iPhone5? If so, how.

Yes, you can use the hot spot feature of the iPhone 5 to create a WiF Access Point.

  • Having problems sharing internet Connection from Macbook to Vonage Adapter

    Hello,
I just got my Vonage adaptor and I am trying to share the Internet connection from my Macbook Pro (10.7.3) to the Adaptor to use the Vonage service bc my router is downstairs.
I turned off my Firewall, hooked my Vonage adapter to the Macbook with the ethernet cable and then went to Sys Preferences > Sharing > Selected Internet Sharing > Share Connection from Wifi to computers using Ethernet, and it looks like everything is ok but when i try to use the phone which is connected to to Vonage Adapter, it says "Your Vonage device cannot connect to the internet, check to see if your high speed internet is down".
I went and looked at my Network preferences and it shows Ethernet connected which is the Vonage Adapter and gives the following:
    IP Address: 169.254.163.167
    Subnet Mask: 255.255.0.0
Is there something Im doing wrong? Ive seen on several forums that its possible to do but having bad luck. Any help is appreciated.

All I know is that I got Ubuntu to share internet and offer IPs through DHCP by using Firestarter. I am very new to Solaris, however, and am looking forward to learning about it. I've just made it my regular desktop environment. Long as you can get Solaris to configure its network interface with DHCP after your Ubuntu is configured, you should be able to share to as many clients as you'd like. Fedora also works well for that, and in my opinion, it's a better Linux than Ubuntu, though Solaris remains a better Linux than Linux, right? Har.

  • How to share internet connection from cable modem through built-in airport on imac?

I have a cable modem with ethernet going into imac. How can I share the internet connection using the iMacs built in airport with other computers that have airport cards?
I would love to put an ethernet router between the imac and the modem and share the internet connection using the iMacs built in airport with other computers that have airport cards as well.
    Thanks!

The setup I had working is what I have connected to the internet now. A cable modem with one ethernet jack that plugs into the iMac. The airport from the iMac broadcast to my G5 with an airport card in it and received the internet connection. The PC received it the same way from the iMac but to a Netgear wireless adapter.
I messed things up recently adding a wired 4 port ethernet router between the iMac and the modem, so that the modem ethernet plugged into the router, and from the router, plugged into the iMac which then could receive the internet but no more airport connections to my other machines. Haven't been able to get it working since.

  • I want to share my internet connection with my iPhone via the usb cable. I have a Macbook pro. What do you think? Is this possible? And if yes, then how?  Thanks!

I want to share my internet connection with my iPhone via the usb cable. I have a Macbook pro. What do you think? Is this possible? And if yes, then how?
    If not why option available
    Thanks!

What Carolyn says is correct. You can, however, share an Internet connection with your iPhone wirelessly by turning in Internet sharing (found in System Preferences > Sharing.) If your MacBook Pro is already using a wireless connection, you can just connect to the same wireless network it is using.
    Best of luck.

  • Can Airport Express share an Internet connection via Thunderbolt Ethernet

An increasing number of hotels are now charging for every device that you use to connect to the Internet. I am travelling to India next week for work and the hotel I am staying at has this policy. I have not discovered a way of sharing a Wifi account between several devices. I travel with an iPhone, iPad and MacBook Air.
What if I connect my MacBook Air via wireless. Can I share my Internet connection (Internet Sharing in Sharing) by connecting an Airport Express to the ethernet port (thuderbolt ethernet) and create a wireless network that way? If possible, what configuration would I need on the AEX, wold it be bridge mode?

This is why I travel with 2 AirPort Express devices.
For hotels with wireless only....one Express is configured to "join" the hotel wireless network and it provides an Ethernet signal to the second Express which is configured to "create" a wireless network for multiple devices.
The hotel network only "sees" one device....the AirPort Express that is joining....so I'm only charged for one device, but can connect multiple devices if I want.
If the hotel has an Ethernet jack, you only need one Express..the one configured to 'create" a wireless network. Again, the hotel only "sees" one device....because I do not use Bridge Mode.....but I can connect as many wireless devices as I want.
Both methods work about 95% of the time at "unknown" hotels. Generally, I stay at "known" hotels where I know that things will work.
