Can I "Un Sync" my google contacts from my new phone?

I synced my google contacts to my old phone (3G) and they were not merged with my regular phone book contacts..
Now on my 3G(s) they are all merged together causing a nightmare for me!
Can I remove them somehow?
Thanks

Alright, first thing you're going to want to do is go downstairs and create a backup of your address book. To back up: Open Address Book and choose Back up Address Book from the File menu. A dialog appears, asking you to choose a save location—it also adds the current date to the saved file name too. Choose where you want to save the backup, then click Save.
Once you've got this, we're safe to start tinkering. On that downstairs computer, connect your iPhone and get to the "Info" tab in iTunes. Select sync contacts then scroll down to the bottom of this area to the "Advanced" section and select "Contacts" - this tells iTunes to replace the contacts that are on your iPhone with the information that is on this computer. Now click "Apply." iTunes will prompt you that this iPhone is currently synced with another computer (library) and ask you if you want to merge or replace. You want to choose REPLACE. Keep in mind that you've got all your data backed up and also on your other computer, so you're safe to do this.
Once the sync is complete, check your iPhone and make sure you've got all your contacts the way you want (sans Google contacts).
Now go back to your computer with the messed up contacts. Before we plug in your iPhone, we need to clean out your address book on this Mac. Make sure that you've turned off syncing with Google Contacts (Check Address Book > Preferences) then delete all of your contacts from Address Book (feel free to create a backup before doing this if you like).
Once this is done, plug in your iPhone and enable contact syncing (and anything else you want to sync). DO NOT CHECK ANYTHING IN THE ADVANCED SECTION. Select sync and iTunes will again throw a dialog telling you that your iPhone is currently synced with another computer. This time, we want to MERGE all of our data (bringing the contacts from the downstairs computer to this computer).
I hope this helps and is clear enough.

I have an iPhone 4 thats i was trying to fix and now it will not turn on at all is there anyway that i can access my pictures and contacts from my new phone or pc? Aslo the are both on the same apple id but i dont know if that would help or not.

Contacts are designed to be synced to a supported application on the computer or a cloud service.
Pictures taken with the device are designed to regularly be copied off the device to a computer as would be done with any digital camera.
If you have failed to use the device as designed it may be too late to recovery anything.
Is the device regularly backed up to a computer via iTunes?  If so, the most recent backup (when restored to a replacement iOS device) should contain all contacts and pictures as of when the backup was created.

  • I can no longer sync with Google Contacts

I have been using google for 2 years and from the beginning have synced iPhone contacts with my google account.  I just discovered that the synch stopped working.  Initially, I thought it was due to changing google password.  I tried to update iTunes sync with my current google password under the info menu.  But it won't accept the change. Every time I enter my credentials and click enter, the window reopens prompting to re-enter the credentials.  It is like an endless loop.  Why won't it accept the credentials?  I know for absolute certain that I am entering the correct credentials because I use my google account all day for work on my PC, other PC's, and my phone.
I tried a phone reset with no luck.  I assume the problem is in iTunes because that is where the contact synch is configured.

Are you trying to set up your Gmail account as an Exchange account? If so, you need to know that Google no longer supports that service for free Gmail accounts. See this article for how to sync your contacts:
    http://www.mactrast.com/2012/12/how-to-setup-google-email-contacts-calendar/
If it's a question of unlocking the account for that device, try this page:

    Best of luck.

HOW CAN I SYNC ALL MY CONTACTS FROM MY IPHONE TO ICLOUD?

Go to Settings>iCloud, sign in with your Apple ID to create your account if you haven't already done so, turn Contacts on and choose Merge with iCloud when prompted.  If you are syncing contacts from an external account (Gmail, Yahoo, exchange, etc.) you will need to take additional steps to add them.  Let me know if that's the case.

  • Issue with sync'ing Google contact: how to sync only contacts in My Contact

I tried to sync my Google contacts on my PC to iPhone using iTune: Info->Contacts, select Sync contacts with "Google Contacts" from the drop down list.
However, I am only allowed to select "All contacts" as the choice. The "Selected groups" radio button is grayed out and cannot be selected. As such, all the contact info in my Google contact are synced to my iPhone, which include all the "garbage" contact info Gmail has cached, e.g. all the e-mail addresses from whom you have received e-mails from, including junk e-mails. I only want to sync contacts listed in "My Contacts". But looks like this feature (sync only Selected Groups) is not enabled or yet to be implemented? Can somebody confirm this, i.e. feature not enable vs. some config issue on my part?
Does anybody know if there is a way around it?

OK. I have just figured out how you can sync the contacts only in My Contact subgroup using Google sync over the air.
The procedure is described in detail at Google Help:
Google Sync: Set Up Your iPhone or iPod Touch for Google Sync
    http://www.google.com/support/mobile/bin/answer.py?answer=138740&topic=14252
I followed the steps there and it synced all my contact in My Contacts subgroup within a minutes.
However, I then edit a few contacts in my Google contacts just to see whether it will be synced automatically to my iPhone. So far after about 5 min, it hasn't happened.
So I am wondering how often it gets updated (or pushed) and if there are other settings I can twig this (I do have the setting Fetch New Data set to Push)?

  • Syncing with Google Contacts doesn't work anymore

    Hey everyone,
my iPhone 3g recently stopped syncing with Google Contacts (I can't exactly say since when, but approximately since one week). Before, it worked perfectly fine for the roundabout 2 months i have my iPhone now. iTunes is up to date, as is my iPhone software. Also, i didn't change my Google Password or anything. iTunes also - while syncing my iPhone - tells me for a few seconds it's syncing, but nothing seems to happen. What shall i do?
    David

This probably means that you are using iWeb 08 or iWeb 2 and you are correct that this will not run on the latest software, however iWeb 09 or 3 will, so if you want it to work, you will have to purchase iWeb 09, contained in either iLife 11 or iLife 09 via Amazon.
No, of course you won't find iWeb for sale in the App store because as this thread has been telling you, both it and MobileMe have not existed for at least that last 2 years and Apple withdrew support for iWeb sometime ago along with MobileMe, which has now become iCloud.
If you want iWeb 09, you will have to purchase it from Amazon - this is the only way that you can get it, but now might be a good time to move on and use some software that is both sold and supported such as EverWeb.  Take a look at it.  It is designed to be like iWeb but you can do a lot more.

I used the following method, which means that your contacts are permanently on your iPhone (the problem with syncing to Gmail in order to 'transfer' contacts is that you need the gmail account to be active all the time in order to see the contacts), take an example of transferring contacts from Sony to iPhone:
    1. Transfer all of your contacts to the Sony Experia's internal storage. It will create a vCard file.
    2. Connect your Sony Experia to a pc
    3. Ensure that you can see the Sony Experia's internal storage files, and identify the location of the vCard file (for me it was in system/PIM)
    4. Set up an email account on your iPhone
    5. Email the vCard file to the email account on your iPhone
    6. Open the vCard file attachment on your iPhone
    7. You should now see your contacts and automatically have the option (in the same screen) to 'Add all xxx Contacts' where xxx is the number of contacts in the vCard file
    Hope that helps.

  • Address Book Sync with Google Contacts across computers (instead of iCloud with Lion)?

I am trying to get ready for the port to iCloud and i am going to do this while still on Snow Leopard per Roger Wilmut's fantastic documentation. It appear to me I will simply lose Bookmark Sync (until I move to Mountail Lion) which is a small(ish) price to pay to not have to deal with an upgrade at the moment.
The question I am hoping to answer is if it will be possible to SYNC MY CONTACTS across my devices (MacBookPro, MacPro and iPhone) using the Sync with Google Contacts Option in Address Book Preferences.
Does anyone know if checking this option will put these contacts on both of my Machines and on my iPhone?
ALSO, does anyone know if it is possible to put the ADDRESS BOOK CONTACTS in one folder and the GOOGLE CONTACTS in another folder so they don't all get mixed up together?
    TIA

I can't even get manual Google syncing to work with iCloud enabled. Without iCloud, everything works fine.

There is a checkbox on the 'info' tab in iTunes that will allow you to overwrite the address book on the phone with the one from the computer on the next sync.

Good to know that, but what can I do to get the mail and contacts downloaded from Icloud onto my Iphone?  I am told that the password needs to be reset and I have erased and reset it 3x's already? Should I Restore All Settings or Restore Network Settings or will that result in a situation where I have to have it re-unlocked again? GRACIAS!

The only way to remove photos from the Camera roll is to delete them. You cannot move them directly from the Camera roll to another album.
Sync the photos to your computer, remove them from iPhone and resync the photos to your iphone.

I'm trying to restore my iPhone 5 to the original settings because it did not sync my contacts from my last phone (it synced from my husband's phone instead).  I am trying to delete everything so I can back it up from my previous phone and not my husband's.  I keep getting a message saying that files were corrupt so it couldn't restore settings. Ideas?

I tried following the instructions listed in the following thread:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/19512128#19512128
but have still been unable to backup data using the third party software.
TouchCopy tells me I have no photos or Video ad won't alllow me to copy any of the critical files e.g. Notes, Calendar, Contacts, Messages, etc.
Anyone have any other suggestions for backing up my iPhone? Or help using TouchCopy?
If I am ever able to get TouchCopy to work, should I be using Copy to iTunes or Copy to PC option?
    Thanks!

  • Address Book doesn't have "sync with Google contacts" any more...!!!!!

    Hi Guys
    Hoping someone can help...
I've updated to 10.0.8, and I just have a look at the options under Address Book. There are still options to sync contacts with MobileMe, and Yahoo (and one other, which I can't remember as I'm not at my Mac), but the last one, "sync with Google contacts", has disappeared!
Has anyone else noticed if that has gone? Have Apple decided not to partner with Google any more?
Or does my Address Book just have some kind of bug?
    Cheers,
    Mike

    Sorry... correction... 10.5.8, obviously!!

Can I transfer my address book/contacts from a laptop with windows vista to my iPad mini?

To sync from windows things like Contacts, Calendars, and Mail you would need to have Outlook on the computer 2003, 2007, or 2010.  This article might help you out if your setting it up for the first time. Hope it helps.
