Can I use a Airport Express and a Foscam IP camera without a internet connection?

Hi All,
I have a Foscam FI8918W IP camera.  I have it working perfectly at home on my local network over wifi with either my Airport Extreme or my Airport Express.
I planned to use this IP cam as a wireless camera for on stage work with bands, monitoring equipment that I can't see during the show utilising the Airport Express, my MBP or iPad.
As I have said, i have everything working very well, until I disconnect the Airport Express from the mains power and remove the CAT5 cable from my modem to the A.E.  When I reconnect the power (but not the internet connection), I get error messages from the IP camera software that the Subnet mask settings are incorrect.
I cannot get the camera to work until I reconnect the internet connection.  After a few moments, the issue's are resolved and everything starts working again and I can view the camera's video feed from an i.p. address.
Question is: Is there a way to set up the A.E. so that it doesn't require a internet connection?
I will not have internet at a lot of venues and need to get this to work just as a stand alone setup.
Thanks in advance!
mark

I'm not sure I quite understand. Do you wish to use the AEX to provide a wireless connection for a device that has an Ethernet port but no wireless capability of its own? You wish to use it in place of a wireless card that isn't internally installed? If so, the answer is, "Yes." It will work as a wireless access point. But you must have an extant wireless network because the AEX won't have an Internet connection when used in this way.
If you have an existing wireless network with a wireless router connected to your cable/DSL model or your modem is a wireless router as well, then the AEX may connect to it in bridge mode. Note that AEXs don't always play nice with non-Apple routers. Some work; others don't.

If you want to watch on your iPad screen, you don't even need airplay.
If you want to watch on a television screen, you need an AppleTV.
    In both cases...
If the movies are purchased, there is no need for an Internet connection to the outside world.  If they're rented, you need an Internet connection for the first minute or so that Apple knows that you're watching the movie.  I do not know if a rented movie can be stopped and restarted without an Internet connection.

  • Can you use the Airport Express A1264 as an AP and a DHCP server at the same time?

Can you use the Airport Express A1264 as an Access Point and a DHCP server at the same time?
I would like to use it as a DHCP server and AP at the same time in my LAN (no internet, just local machines through a few switches). I was lead to belive this could be the case from a few networking friends that haven't been friendly enough to help me out setting it up.

I need it to act as a dLink/Cisco/Linksys/etc basic wifi router, in the fact that you can access it via wifi, and it will spit out DHCP addresses (192.168.1.xxx) to everything wired downstream of it.
I want to simultaniously provide a Wifi connection and a LAN connection at the same time
    Thanks,

  • Can I use the Airport Express to connect to a Linksys Wireless Network and then use the Ethernet port on the Airport for a wired connection to a device for internet access?  Would I be able to then also use that Ethernet pt to a Ntwk Hub for more wired c

Thanks for the help.  Looked but not clear on what I am trying to do as being possible.  Can I use an Airport Express to connect wireless to a Linksys Wireless Router, such that I can then use the Ethernet ports on the Airport to either connected to a PC wired, or even use a hub off the Airport Express to allow multiple wired connections to it?
I am not looking to have the Airport Express extend my wireless network, just connect to it and provide me wired connections in a different location from where my Linksys Route is located.  Would prefer to replace Linksys with all Apple, but just not possible financially yet.  Thanks for the help.

If the AirPort Express Base Station (AX) is an 802.11n model, then yes, you can reconfigure it as a wireless Ethernet bridge. In this configuration, the AX would join the wireless network provided by the Linksys router and its Ethernet port would be enabled for either a single wired device or for an Ethernet hub or switch for multiple devices.

  • Can I use an airport express to add airplay to (and extend the range of) a network with a netgear N750 Router?

I have a Netgear N750 router. Can I buy an airport express and configure it to extend the range of my current network and allow me to use AirPlay from anywhere on that SSID?

You can configure the AirPort Express to "join" the wireless network that is being provided by the Netgear router for use with AirTunes.
But, the Express will not be able to "extend" the range of your wireless network.
The "extend a wireless network" feature only works if you have an Apple router as your main device. This feature is not compatible with devices from other manufacturers.

  • Can I use an airport express as a range extender to a NON apple router using an internet cable (so not wireless)

can I use an airport express as a range extender to a NON apple router using an internet cable (so not wireless)

Yes, if the AirPort Express is set up to create a wireless network that uses the exact same wireless network name as the other router and the same wireless network password as the other router.

  • Can i use the airport express in my hotel with wired connection?

I'm going to be traveling quite a bit coming up and staying in hotels with wired internet connections in the room.  Can i use the airport express to connect with the hotel's internet connection and then my ipad and/or iphone 4S?  I'm new to Apple products so will certainly appreciate any info that may help.  Thank you!

You will need to have AirPort Utility installed on the iPad and/or iPhone. It is free on the App Store
    App Store - AirPort Utility
Connect the AirPort Express 802.11n to the hotel Ethernet jack using an Ethernet cable
Power up the AirPort Express and wait 40-45 seconds
Tap Settings, then tap Wi-Fi on the iPad
Tap the AirPort Express under the heading of Set up an AirPort Base Station
AirPort Utility will take a moment to to analyze the connection and then you can proceed with the easy guided setup
Once the AirPort Express is configured, you should not have to set it up again at the next hotel. But, you could if you want to.

Can i use the airport express with a desktop computer not wifi- I want wifi for my iphone

I can't seem to find any information anywhere.  It seems like it should work since the AX is showing up on his wifi settings on both his iPhone and iPod.  Not to mention the Apple "Genius" told him that it should work.  However, they also told him that it came with an ethernet, USB and the stereo patch cables...

  • Can I use the Airport Express as a cable modem?

I am trying to set up wireless internet in my home, and I am planning to purchase an Airport Express. Can I use the Airport Express as a cable modem, or do I have to purchase a modem from the ISP and then connect the AE to the output of the cable modem?
    Thanks,
    Adrian

No, the AirPort base stations do not perform the functions of a DSL or cable modem, so you will still need to acquire one.

  • Can I use the Airport Express to create a secure wireless network in a wireless-only hotel?

Can I use the Airport Express to log onto an unsecured hotel wireless network, without an ethernet cable, to create a secure wireless network for my MacbookAir, IPad, IPhone, etc.? If so, how is that done?

will the Airport Express allow you to log onto a hotel wireless network, and broadcast a secure wireless network in your room for your wireless devices, like the Ipad, Iphone, etc.?
The bottom line with a single AirPort Express is no.
The AirPort Express can only "extend" a wireless network when the network is being provided by another Apple router.
As you might imagine, it is extremely unlikely that that the hotel network....which no doubt uses professional wireless access points provided by a manufacturer of commercial systems.....would be compatible with an AirPort Express.
In many years of travel domestically and internationally, I cannot recall a time when a single AirPort Express would "extend" the signal provided by a hotel's wireless network.
However, if you had two AirPort Express devices handy, you might be able to configure one to "join" the hotel network and provide an Ethernet signal to the second AirPort Express, which would be configured to "create" your own "private"  wireless network.

  • Can i use an airport express as an ethernet print server?

here's my situation: i have a belkin wireless g router connected to my cable modem and my G4 desktop connected to the belkin router. i need to access an epson 3000 printer with only an ethernet port in another room in the house. i was told my the tech guy in the local apple store that i could use an airport express to do this but for the life of me i can't make it happen using either airport setup assistant or airport admin utility. so is it possible? and if not, what would you suggest i do so i can access the printer?

Sure, follow the instructions in this Apple Support document and simply substitute the AirPort Express where you see a second AirPort Extreme:

  • Can I use an Airport Express to extend a network using a Bwrg500 router?

Can I use my Airport Express to extend my wireless network while using a Bountiful BWRG500 wireless router? The Bountiful wireless router has the WDS abilities.
    http://www.bountifulwifi.com/Products/BountifulRouter500G/Overview.aspx
    Thank you for looking.

It is in fact possible to extend your network using WDS. I say this under the assumption that your statement regarding the WDS capabilities of the Bwrg router is correct. However, keep in mind that you cannot use a WPA or WPA2 password with a WDS extended network. You must either use no encryption or use WEP. Unfortunately some routers require WEP passwords that use either 10 or 26 digits ONLY while the express uses a 13 digit password.
This can be a troubling problem considering that most people need a wifi password to ensure safe and secure browsing.

  • Can i use my Airport Express (2nd generation) instead of a Sonos Connect

I have an Airport Epress (2nd generation) and want to use it instead of buying another Sonos Connect At the moment my Sonos Connect is hooked up to my Bose Solo as part of my Sonos audio system around the house. i want to move the Solo to the dining room but keep the Connect in the living room hooked up to my CD player. Instead of buying another Connect for the Bose can i use the Airport Express that i have spare and config it to use like the Connect.
    Can anyone help??
    Barry

Yes, and no. You can connect the Bose speaker to the AirPort Express, and then, stream iTunes via AirPlay to the Express.
I believe Sonos uses a different audio streaming protocol than AirPlay. You cannot directly stream from a Sonos server to the Express. For that you will need one of the Sonos solutions.
