Can I use a flash drive with my iPad?  If yes, what kind?

Can I use a flash drive with my iPad?  If yes, what kind?

Actually, and to clarify, the Lightning to sd card camera reader does not have a usb port in any shape.
The Lightning to usb camera adapter is the one that has the USB port. (its an entirely different product)
http://store.apple.com/us/product/MD821ZM/A/lightning-to-usb-camera-adapter?fnod e=3a
The old 30 pin Camera connection kit, had a USB port adapter as well as the sd card reader in the same package.
In any case, if the iPad you bought is an iPad 4, then no you{ll need to decide if you want an Sd card reader or the actual USB port.
If its an iPad 2 then the camera connection kit will offer the usb port in the box.
However as was already mentioned, and with either product you can only transfer pictures in a very specific format.

  • Can I use a flash drive to back up my iTunes?

Did a search on backing up my iTunes, and only get the option of backing up to a disc (Which is what I've done over the past 3 years. I now have 6 discs accumulated).
Can I use a flash drive to back up my apps, music, and videos?
I only have a total of 1.6 GB of apps, music, & video.
If so, would I then be able to transfer everything from the flash to a new hard drive when I replace the current one?
Thanks for any advice or help.

The backup built into iTunes works only with CDs and DVDs, but you can back up onto a flash drive or hard drive manually. Just drag the entire iTunes folder (normally in your user's Music folder) onto the backup device.
would I then be able to transfer everything from the flash to a new hard drive when I replace the current one?
Yes. If you back up the entire iTunes folder, you should be able to just copy it back to the new drive in the same location (user -> Music folder).

  • HT1751 I need to uninstall and reinstall iTunes (it won't let me update). So, how do I copy or back up my iTunes library of over 1,500 songs? Can I use a Flash Drive to do so?

I need to uninstall and reinstall iTunes (it won't let me update). I have IE 8 on Windows XP, and iTunes 10 something. In my Program files list I see iTunes and iTunes (2) and even iPod and iPod (2) where a tech had to back up and do this for me before. I'm just trying to fix it all. I keep getting the "The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable. Click OK to try again, or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package 'iTunes.msi' in the box below." I can even run a search and find the folder, but it gives me the same error message. I was planning on using the Microsoft Fix-It tool  to help uninstall then Reinstall iTunes. But I need to backup my library. So, how do I copy or back up my iTunes library of over 1,500 songs? Can I copy the folder to desktop or can I use a Flash Drive to backup my music? I don't want to do anything until I know for sure how I can backup my songs, and then reinstall them into iTunes. Thanks for any help.

Ok, thanks that helps. I don't have an external hard drive though. What about backing up through 'the cloud'? I'm just wondering since my husband syncs his iPod to the PC through iTunes and he's worried that he will lose all the songs on his iPod if the library is lost from iTunes and he tries to 'sync' it up again. I'm not exactly sure how to  'copy the entire iTunes folder' either. I kinda suck at this unless I have step by step instructions, which I haven't found yet on iTunes help or other sources.
The only way I know how to back anything up is by going back to a restore point, etc. (as stated before, we don't have an external hard drive.)
    Thanks for the info.

  • Can you use external hard drives with the HP Omni 10 5600US

Since this a Windows tablet, can you use external hard drives with the HP Omni 10 5600US?
I know there is a micro-sd reader for additional storage but can you use the usb for external hard drives like a regular pc?
I tried looking at the spec's for this tablet and it said the usb port was host only. I'm not sure what that means exactly.

Yes you can.  You'll need to purchase a USB OTG (on-the-go) cable.  I recommend using a drive that has its own power supply but I've successfully used small USB powered drives also.

  • Can I use a flash drive in my DV6-1320SD?

Can I use a flash drive  in my DV6-1320SD?
And if so, what specs do I need to look for?
As far as I know, a flash drive is additional to the existing hard drive, not a replacement. Could you keep the old hard drive as a seperate data drive, inside the laptop, and work from the flash drive?

Not the way you are thinking. Your model is a generation behind the laptops that have a place for a miniature solid state drive. The only "flash" (solid state) drive you can use is one that is the same size and connection as a regular laptop hard drive (2.5 inch SATA) and it would replace, not be in addition to, the regular hard drive. Having said that, the price of solid state drives is just now becoming somewhat reasonable and the performance gains have to be seen to be appreciated.
Post back if you want to explore buying, installing and loading software on a solid state drive.

  • Can i use the magick trackpad with the ipad?

can i use the magick trackpad with the ipad? and the iphone?

I'm looking for this same answer, I wonder if any new info. I've gone from posts saying why would anyone want to, and I now see that this is in the ATV section, which actually suits me because the setup I'm using it for is when I don't want to be up in my office on my iMac, but rather in the lounge in front of the big screen with my iPad mirrored to the Apple TV and bt keyboard connected. I wouldn't actually suggest anyone go out and buy a Magic Mouse or trackpad, but since I already have them would like to use it to make things easier when using my iPad as a mini computer with my TV as the screen. I can currently use the iPad to scroll no problem, but if I have to click somewhere specific then I must look at the iPad screen vice just moving a mouse or trackpad and having a pointer show up on my screen.  Obviously if my iMac was much closer,  I could mirror that screen and my keyboard and mouse would work just fine. (That is if my iMac was newer, but it's not, its a late 2009 model and that apparently is not new enough to be compatible with airplay mirroring.)

  • Can I use a ZIP drive with my LCII?

Can I just plug in a SCSI ZIP drive in my pizza-box and get it working? I can use it with mac OS 6 or 7, I need to exchange and storage files.
    Something like this : http://cgi.ebay.it/IOMEGA-ZIP-100MB-EXTERNAL-SCSI-DRIVE-MAC-PC-AOK-WARANTY-/1305 26545470?pt=PCC_Drives_Storage_Internal&hash=item1e63fd063e#ht_1239wt_1141
    Thank you!

Do you need to store the files on Zip disks or could you use an external SCSI hard drive?  The reason I ask is that Zip drives, while very useful and convenient, had some production problems and/or a design flaw (depending on one's point of view) for a while.  The problem was named after the symptom that it caused - "Click of Death" or "Death Click."  You'd insert a disk into the drive and hear the heads click down to find the control track, then after a few moments, the heads would release, then click down again, then release, etc.  While the drive was still powered ON and trapped in this endless cycle, you couldn't eject the disk with the Mac OS "Put Away" command or by pressing the manual eject button.  Whether it was an alignment problem or not, the disks became damaged.  I don't think that Iomega ever compiled a definitive serial number range for affected units, so there's really no way to determine whether or not a used unit will develop the problem at some point.  I bought an internal SCSI Zip drive about 6 years ago at eBay and it developed the problem within a couple of weeks.  Fortunately, the seller sent me a replacement and didn't require return shipping of the bad drive.  You could be lucky and get a drive that has had little usage and delivers trouble-free performance for as long as you need it.  As for using the Zip drive with your LC II, you may need to download an older version of the IomegaWare software from Iomega's web site, to be compatible with the Mac OS you're running - especially if it's System 6.  I've never used a Zip drive with anything older than 7.5, possibly 7.1 on my LC III - I can't remember since I soon upgraded the LC III to OS 7.6.1.  With the Iomega software on a floppy disk, you can run the "Iomega Guest" program, that enables use of the Zip drive without installing the software on the hard drive.  Otherwise, installing the IomegaWare software on the hard drive would be most beneficial to you.

  • Can I use a flash drive to run a virucide on a HP Notebook Mini 110?

My niece's HP Mini 119 1025DX notebook got infected with a false virucide program emulating MS Safety Essentials. As soon as the WinXP loads it displays itself. It has hijacked the computer and there is no access to the web or to restore the computer. She is a student and does not have a lot of money to fix it.
I can download the Malwarebytes software but there's no CD drive on the notebook to install it.  HELP!!!!

    Hi:
You can make a flash drive bootable and have the DOS files to run some commands, but whether or not it will work all depends on whether you can access the software's launch command from a DOS prompt. And you would need to know what that command is, like Setup.exe or whatever.
Here is a link on how to make a flash drive bootable and the applicable files.
    http://www.techpowerup.com/forums/showthread.php?t=47812
If you can't get the program to run from a flash drive, you will have to obtain an external USB DVD-RW drive and run the disk using that.
I use the free Kapersky rescue disk to get rid of that particular malware.

  • How can i use external hard drive with mac and pc!

I've been using a Lacie external hard drive with my mac to keep the itunes library and other things since day one. Since i have a dvd with files for windows and an old pc without a dvd drive, i decided to copy and paste the content of the dvd to the external hard drive. The only problem now is that when i plug the external hard drive to pc, it won't open. I know it has to be formatted in a different way, but i need to find out the best solution!
    Any idea?

You can format the external drive in Fat32 (which I don't recommend but is the most compatible between both platforms), or NTFS (which requires some work to get your Mac to recognize), or HFS+ (which requires special software on your PC so your PC can use it).
If you use this drive mostly with your Mac, get MacDrive for your PC:

If you use this drive mostly with your PC, here's some software for you Mac. I haven't tried this myself, but the professional reviews have been good:

  • How can I see Web sites using Adobe Flash Player with my IPad?

I've realised that it's not possible to visit web sites using Adobe Flash Player.
Is There a program by which Apple allows you to solve this problem?

Not from Apple, no, and probably never will be. You can try one of the third-party app/service combinations for playing Flash such as Skyfire , Puffin, or iSwifter. One of those might work for you, though they all have limitations and do not work with all Flash-based sites and services. You may find other suggestions for apps in the many other threads on Flash in this forum.

The choice is yours, if you find your accessing them often and your machine is stationary, then leave them connected.
If you move your machine around a lot, then you'll likely only want to connect them as you need too.
You don't want to wear out your port connectors, but then again you don't want to carry a hard drive connected to a machine as your moving it neither, more chance for a dropping to occur.
You'll have to make the best decision for your particular lifestyle, needs and use of the computer.
TimeMachine drive should be connected more often if your prone to accidentially deleting files so it's constantly updated, else perhaps every couple of days or only when you create new files will be plenty.
If your not using the drive, you shouldn't be firing it up. but then again you do need to run it once in awhile and not let it sit and get stuck neither.
Once a hard drive spins down and is properly dismounted (drag it's icon to the Trash can) the read/write heads park themselves in a safe spot so they can't strike the platters with your data on them, so it's important that when a hard drive is running to make sure it's (or the computer) is stationary and stable.
Many people move their laptops while it's on,  unaware of the dangers they are poentially causing.
