Can I use airport express from my Ipad?

I believe it is not possible, but does anyone know if it is in the roadmap?
It would be a lovely addition, how is it possible that Apple does not allow this?

I for one am still having issues with having to re-login to AD, especially in the iPad forum. No idea why. It took me awhile to re log in twice, then checked that link, realized my mistake and deleted it.
I understand; AD can be troublesome at times. But I don't really think you need to jump on me for posting a reply/comment seven minutes after your post. Again, I had no way of knowing that you intended to come back in and edit (and we don't get much long than that to edit at all). Anyway, let's let that go.
Link's still there, BTW.
Again, the original poster wants to stream directly from the iPad to the Airport Express. That's not possible by any method I've seen. The Remote app and similar apps allow someone to take control of iTunes running on a computer, and said iTunes could be streaming to an Airport Express. But that's not what the OP said s/he wanted to do.

I currently have a D-Link DI-604 broadband router with windows computers.  How can I add wifi to the network for use with ipad?  Can I use AirPort Express?

Yes. You can directly connect an 802.11n AirPort Express Base Station (AXn) using an Ethernet cable. The AXn would then just need to be configured as a bridge to allow the D-Link to continue to provide both NAT & DHCP services for all network clients connected to either router.
In this configuration, the AXn would broadcast a wireless network for your wireless network clients to connect to.

  • HT1515 How can I use Airport Express (1st generation) with OS X Mavricks?

How can I use Airport Express (1st Generation) with OS X Mavericks?

1st Generation AirPort Express will work fine with Mavericks.
Are you sure that you have a 1st Gen Express?
Check the model number on the side of the Express. 1st Gen is A1264.
If you see A1084 or A1088, these are much older versions of the Express that were sold long before Apple began to use the Generation naming with "n" wireless devices in 2007.
Mavericks will not support the A1084 or A1088. Use another Mac running Leopard, Snow Leopard, or a PC if you need to administer the older Express.

How can I use AirPort Express when traveling?
Connect the AirPort Express to the Ethernet port in your room.....to be able to create your own private wireless network in your room for multiple devices.
You will still have to pay the hotel Internet charge for one device, if the hotel charges for Internet access.
If the hotel only provides wireless service, then a single AirPort Express will not help you.
However, if you have two AirPort Express devices, then you can use one to "join" the hotel wireless network, then connect the second Express to the first using an Ethernet cable and create your own wireless network for multiple devices in your room.

  • Can I use AirPort Express as booster/extender to LinkSys router signal?

I have LinkSys N router (which I got free, else would've bought AirPort), its signal isn't strong enough in office room.  Can I use AirPort Express as a booster/extender?  Some sources say Express can only talk to another Express, others say it can communicate with the LinkSys.  Which is it?  I don't want to spend the money for two Expresses unless I have no choice (very limited budget nowadays).
I've been hassling with this for over a month, and I'm extremely frustrated.
Thanks to anybody who can help me with this.

Most likely no. That is because most non-Apple router's implementation of WDS is not compatible ... and this is true the other way around. It is true that some early Linksys models, mainly the WRT-54 series were compatible, but I have not seen anything since then that is.

  • Can I use airport express to create a local wireless network that my apple tv can connect to for AirPlay/mirroring in student halls/dorm without Internet connection

    Hi I was wondering :
Would I be able to make a local wireless network using airport express that my apple tv can connect to which in turn is connected to a projector with hdmi in so that I can mirror/AirPlay from iPhone pad and mac

will the Airport Express allow you to log onto a hotel wireless network, and broadcast a secure wireless network in your room for your wireless devices, like the Ipad, Iphone, etc.?
The bottom line with a single AirPort Express is no.
The AirPort Express can only "extend" a wireless network when the network is being provided by another Apple router.
As you might imagine, it is extremely unlikely that that the hotel network....which no doubt uses professional wireless access points provided by a manufacturer of commercial systems.....would be compatible with an AirPort Express.
In many years of travel domestically and internationally, I cannot recall a time when a single AirPort Express would "extend" the signal provided by a hotel's wireless network.
However, if you had two AirPort Express devices handy, you might be able to configure one to "join" the hotel network and provide an Ethernet signal to the second AirPort Express, which would be configured to "create" your own "private"  wireless network.

  • How Do I Set Up My Airport Express From My iPad 2?

I just got an Airport Express and found that I can only set it up from a Mac or PC. Am I missing something? How can I set it up from my iPad 2? I plan on using it for traveling, but don't want to lug a laptop along, only take my iPad. It seems that it would be necessary at times to change configurations on the Airport Express at times when traveling. There are always unexpected things to have to account for. Having an Airport Express setup utility app on the iPad would seem to be a necessity. Could someone provided guidance for an iPad only solution? Can someone from Apple please weigh in? Thanks.

While I am not from Apple, there was a leaked screen shot showing a possible Airport configuration utility in the upcoming iOS5.  As suggested, give feedback to Apple to help ensure that the utility does make it to the final version.
Until then, or if the utility never makes it, then you can get "travel routers" that use web page based configuration just like the typical home routers from Linksys and others.  I have this model from D-Link, which has been replaced by an 802.11n version.  They're small, although the newer one is larger, but still quite portable.

  • Can I use airport express to extend my network AND stream iTunes???

I have an airport extreme connected to the cable modem and sending a signal out to my home network. I also have a powerbook and an airport express connected to the home stereo.
My question is, can i use the express to extend my extreme signal (to reach the back yard) and stream music from itunes at the same time? The set up utility seems to suggest that you do one or the other.
    Thanks!

Are you sure you configured the Express to extend the Extreme's network? If you use the standard setup, the two base stations will be indistinguishable, i.e. you'll only see one entry for the wireless network.
If you were connected to the Extreme when you configured the Express, try turning off Airport in the Airport menu and then turning it back on. The computer should pick up the stronger signal at that point.

  • Can I use airport express in a wired network to play music through my stereo?

I originally used my 1st gen AE to wirelessly stream music from iTunes on my MacPro to my home theater.  This works, but there are some good days and some bad days where there are dropouts in the music.  I have recently run Cat6 cable to my HT from my router next to my MacPro.  This feeds a Gigabit switch that feeds the ATV, receiver, bluray, HD DVD, etc.  I plugged in the AE to the switch but it still defaults to the wifi network rather than taking a feed from the ethernet switch.  I know i can (and do) use the ATV (gen 1) to steam music, but sometimes it more convenient to use the AE.  Is there a way to force the wifi on the AE off and just have it for streaming from iTunes?  Thanks.

Yes, you can configure an AirPort Express Base Station (AX) as a standalone wireless router without Internet access for the purposes of providing a Wi-Fi network for streaming. Note that any computers that will be the host of that stream would need to connect to this AX's wireless network while doing so. They would not be able to be connected to two wireless networks simultaneously for both streaming AND Internet access.

  • Can I use Airport Express with iPhone in my hotel room?

Is there a way to set up an Airport Express in my hotel room when I travel, so that the provided High Speed internet cable in the room can be plugged into my Airport Express, giving me a wireless internet connection for the iPhone? I use Airport Express often this way with my MacBook, so I don't have to be tethered to the cable.

I did this about a month ago when I was in England. I just had the Airport Express with me, and had not done any configurations. I plugged it in and had the iPhone find it. It worked in some hotels, and didn't at others. When it worked it was great. I assume with some of the hotels where it didn't work, that I needed to configure it but since I didn't have my laptop I didn't have any way to configure it. Is there any kind of "universal" or "automatic" configuration you can set it up with?

  • I have a MacPro 2008 workstation without Airport or Airport Extreme CArd isntalled. Can I use Airport Express to connect (wireless) to my wireless network? If so, can I then connect my Airport Extreme to my MAcPro by a ethernetcable ?

I have a MacPro 2008 workstation. It has no Airport/Airport card so I have to use an ethernetcable to connect to my modem. As the MAcpro
is in my office in the attic and the wireless modem is in the basement I have a problem. I wonder if it is possible to use Airport Express to connect to the wireless network? Itshould be like this: in my office I connect the MacPro with AE through an ethernet cable. If I can then get AE to connect (wireless...) to my wireless network I should be ablle to connect my MacPro to internet/wireless network. Is this possible???? Any suggestions are very much appriciated. Thank you.

Apple calls this configuration a ProxySTA.
To activate ProxySTA, you must set up the Express to join a wireless network and then enable the Allow Ethernet Clients setting; both settings are located in the Wireless tab of AirPort Utility.

  • Can't use Airport Express after upgrading to Leopard

I use Airport Express for wireless printing and AirTunes via powered speakers/hifi. It was working very reliably until I upgraded to Leopard. Now, I am unable to use Airport Express. I get the blinking orange light, but when I scan with Airport Utility, Airport Express is not detected. Manual setup is grayed out, so I can't set it up at all. I am using Airport Utility Version 5.2.2 (522.3), and there does not seem to be any updates or patches to apply at the moment. I have tried on my iMac G5 and MacBook, with the same result on both computers.
I am also reading that many others are having problems with Airport Express after upgrading to Leopard, perhaps not with my specific hardware configuration, but this is very disappointing.
I am open to suggestions to try a few things to get it working, so any help is appreciated.

From the Mail menu, select "Preferences". Hit the Accounts tab. Select the Account. Under Account Information, reapply the user name and password.
Check with the provider if the account needs authentication. This is in the Advanced tab. Usually just a repeat of user name and password.

  • How can I use my ipad in a hotel that only has ethernet connections.    The apple store clerk told me that I can't use airport express unless I also have a computer with me in the hotel.

How can I use my Ipad in a hotel that only has ethernet connections?  The Apple store clerk told me that travel express won't work in my hotel unless I also have a computer.

The issue with the Airport Express (or any of the Apple routers) is that you need the Airport Utility to configure it.  Airport Utility works on OSX and Windows, but not on the iPad (or iPhone or iPod Touch.)  It will work, if you can preconfigure the Airport correctly ahead of time, but you'd be stuck if you did need to reconfigure while at the hotel.
You can use most any other router that is configured with a web page, which means you have a chance of configuring with Safari on the iPad.  If you want something somewhat portable, I use a "travel router" made by D-Link. The current model is the DAP-1350.  Other companies make similar travel routers, but I have no experience with the others.
