Can i use bootcamp on my MacBook Pro10.6.8 with Windows XP

Does anyone know if i can use bootcamp in the situtation above?

System requirements for Windows XP and Windows Vista
To use Boot Camp with Windows XP or Vista and Mac OS X v10.5.x through 10.6.x, you will need the following:
An Intel-based Mac that does not require Windows 7.
A Mac OS X v10.5 Leopard or Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard installation disc. This can be either a purchased copy of a Mac OS X v10.5 or Mac OS X v10.6 disc, or a Mac OS X Install Disc 1 from a Mac that had Mac OS X v10.5 or Mac OS X v10.6 preinstalled.
A USB keyboard and mouse, or a built-in keyboard and trackpad.
Important: You should use the keyboard and mouse that shipped with your Mac, or a built-in trackpad.
At least 10 GB of free space on the disk onto which you’re installing (for Windows and Windows-based applications).
Boot Camp Assistant, which is installed in /Applications/Utilities/.
You will also need one of the following Microsoft Windows discs:
An authentic, 32-bit Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition or Professional with Service Pack 2 or Service Pack 3 disc.
An authentic, 32-bit Microsoft Windows Vista Home Basic, Home Premium, Business, or Ultimate disc.
With some Mac Pro or MacBook Pro computers, an authentic, 64-bit Microsoft Windows Vista Home Basic, Home Premium, Business, or Ultimate disc.
See Boot Camp 2.0: Which versions of Microsoft Windows are supported? for more information.
Important: For a Windows XP installation, your Microsoft Windows XP installation disc must include Service Pack 2 (SP2) or Service Pack 3 (SP3). Boot Camp 2.1 must be installed prior to upgrading Windows XP to Service Pack 3 (SP3) or Windows Vista to Service Pack 1 (SP1). Download Boot Camp 2.1 from Apple Downloads.  When using Windows Vista, some Boot Camp drivers require Windows Vista to be updated to Service Pack 1 (SP1) or later.

Can I use 4GB RAM on my MSI K8N Diamond with Windows 7? I have put 4GB DDR 1 in my motherboard but windows 7 says (2.75GB usable)...
    Regards, Jay

It depends highly on how much hardware (add-in cards) you have installed. If you have two VGA-cards, then it's likely that usable memory stays below 3GB. If you take some hardware out, you will see the usable memory increase a bit, but you won't reach the full 4GB. It will go as far as about 3.25 or so.

You may have to see about using the Recovery HD partition to attempt to erase and restore useful function of the capacity lost to the former Windows installation.
And you may have to backup your contents outside the computer to do it. Disk Utility on the Mac OS X historically has not been able to touch a BootCamp created partition; so if BootCamp cannot remove it, then you have to see how to do the equivalent of a reformat of the entire drive (less Recovery partition?) then reinstall your OS X. Maybe from internet recovery, then get your applications, etc from the Mac App store, etc.
A complete system clone of your OS X on an external HDD would be another method to restore after reformat, of the portion you want whole again, not necessarily the space where Recovery may live.
    There may be (an)other way(s).
    Perhaps someone with recent experience
in this matter can reply & discuss options.
With my antiques, they almost know what I want before I tell them.
Hopefully yours will after you talk to it awhile.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • I need to totally format my macbook pro 13" mid 2009, can i use my friend's macbook pro 13's dvds?

my macbook pro 13 is originally shipped with mac os x 10.5.7, now with 10.6.8, but i dont have the dvds with me, i also dont want any of the information on it, can i use my friend's macbook pro 13's dvds? what can i do?
My macbook pro 13" dvds have these on them
DVD 1: 13 inch macbook pro mac os x install dvd version 10.5.7 2Z691-6468-A Disc version 1.1
DVD 2: 13 inch macbook pro applications install dvd disc  AHT version 3A174 disc version 1.0   2Z691-6458-A
    My friend's macbook pro 13
DVD 1: 13 INCH MACBOOK PRO MAC OS X INSTALL DVD Mac os x version 10.6.7 Disk version 1.2
DVD 2: 12 in macbook pro applications install dvd AHT version 3A21 Disc version 1.1
Would my friend's dvds work to format my macbook pro to factory settings as if out of the box?
i also had windows running on my mac, i used disc utility to erase the partition for windows, not bootcamp, so the partition is empty, i cant get the main hard drive extended as it was before because it gives me a message saying "could not modify partition map because filesystem verification failed", and when i try to verify it through disc utility it says that i need to my os x dvd and repair it, if i just format it, will that all go away?
    thank you

    Simple answer is no.
    Slightly more complicated answer;
You may be able to boot from the disc and use Disk Utility to partition and wipe the HDD (though it may not boot at all).
You can't install an OS from the other computer's discs. It simply will not allow the installation.
You would also be violating the software licence agreement.
As your originals are 10.5.x, you can buy the Snow Leopard retail installer (10.6.3) and format and install from that.

You may use any 2.5" SATA notebook drive not higher than 12.5 mm that uses either 1.5 or 3.0 Gb/s interface. Visit OWC for available options and prices.

Can you use the 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display straight out of the box, or do you have to charge it up fully before you can use it. I do not want to damage the laptop by misusing the battery.

Attach the charger and start charging the battery to 100%.  The good news is that after you have connected the charger, you may start using the MBP as well.
    Ciao.

You can if your cellular plan allows it. Not sure how much data you mean by "quite a bit" but be aware that doing this can use up a lot of data in a hurry depending on what it is you do. please help. just got my jabra halo, worked fine with my iphone4 but can't use it on my macbook pro. it always prompts " the devise does not have the necessary service

    Found these instructions here:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/15388885#15388885
I found an answer that worked for me. I am using an iMac.
    (1) Sign out of the iTunes store
    (2) Open a NEW account with a new Apple ID
    (3) Go through the sign up process and then go to the ACCOUNT INFORMATION page
    (4) Go to RECOMENDATIONS & PING POSTING
    (5) Turn on Genius there
Once the Genius updates, you can sign out and then sign in under your original Apple ID or the e-mail address you use for the iTunes store. All my store credit was there and now Genius worked.
Rather odd but I actually like the Genius at times except when it can't deal with some of my lesser known bands that I listen to.
    Worked for me.

Can I use AirPlay on my MacBook Air?  I have an iMac, and it works great with Apple TV.

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
AirPlay Mirroring requires a Mid 2011 or newer MacBook Air. See > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5404 If it's compatible, you have two possibilities:
    1. Make a backup, open App Store and purchase Mountain Lion. Then, you will be able to turn on AirPlay on System Preferences > Displays.
    2. Keep with OS X Lion and use AirParrot > http://www.airparrot.com
    Both options work properly
