Can i use forms 9i for client server applicaitons

Hi,
I have to build a client/server application.Right now, we are using oracle 9i and developer suite 10g. In one of the articles on OTN, it says that from forms 9i onwards, it's not supporting client/server model. Do i have to use 6i for this.
Thank you.
Sree.

The last Forms version that can be run in c/s mode is 6i.

  • Can I use Time Capsule for a server ?

    hi,
    i was wondering if I can use Time Capsule for a server.
    Let's say I have an ubuntu server, and I'm running some websites and web applications on it.
    I would install these appications on ubuntu but then store the "file folders" of each website or application (with images, videos, etc.. ) on Airport capsule and leave only the application files on the server.
    Is this feasable ?
    Thanks
    Patrick

    Welcome to the discussions!
    +Is this feasible ?+
    Feasible, yes. Practical, no...unless you are willing to put up with very slow access to files that are on the Time Capsule.
    Keep in mind that the Time Capsule was designed primarily for Time Machine backups, not as a media server for quick access to data. You might want to explore other options that would allow much faster access to files when you need them.

  • Can I use Mac Pro for a server?

    I hope this is the right place to ask this....
    I have an older Mac Pro G5 (10.5.8) Desktop.  I cannot update it past Leopard. So now I have a newer MacBook Pro.  I was wondering if I could utilize my old Mac Pro as some sort of "server"?
    It has the origninal smaller drive but I added an additional 1TB SATA drive that is just sitting there doing nothing.
    I rip a lot of movies to my MacBook Pro so I am already out of storage on it.   I keep moving movie files to my Time Capsule (1TB) in which I have partitioined off 300MB to use for media storage.
    I have an Apple TV that I connect to my MacBook Pro but when I'm gone, the family can't use the ATV.
    So, all that being said, can I somehow set up my older Mac Pro to use as a "server" and move all my media/photos/videos/songs to?  Or should I just copy everything to the 1TB drive on the Mac Pro and just access it through ATV like I do my MBP?
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Ehren

    You absolutely could use your old Mac Pro as a server, however you still won't be able to update it passed 10.5.8.
    That said, you should be able to store your media on it, and share it to your AppleTV through iTunes, barring any incompatibilites with the older software. I haven't looked into the system requirements for home sharing in a while. You might want to take a quick check and make sure everything is good to go.

  • Do I need to dedicate a computer such as a Mini to set up a server? Or can I use my iMac as my server for my 2 man company?

    I was considering using my iMac for the server. Can I us it as my main computer as well as the server?
    Jim

    As cpragman writes, more information helps tailor the answer.
    As for the question posed, iMac will work just fine as a server and I know folks that use that, but a central consideration of any "repurposing" of a workstation for this is that servers deal with more than one person and usually with continuous access and comparatively few outages.  This for server-oriented services such as mail, DNS, Messages, web services, etc.  A workstation can boot and crash and be reconfigured or wiped and reloaded maybe not at a whim, but the workstation outages basically disrupt just one user.  Server outages can cause headaches for multiple users and uses.

    Hi
    Each time when you start your computer, you need to restart Oracle as well, its only with Windows XP. The process you have to follow each time is:
    Start -->Run and then type CMD to open command prompt.
    In command prompt type
    svrmgrl and then press
    connect internal/oracle and then press
    startup force and then press
    If you have any problem, then please email me, [email protected]

    I agree load balancing part but load balancing should be done in context of subscribing and not in terms of publishing. You can do failover in context of publishing using Multi-point publish.
    If you publish directly to origin and then introduce edge servers for subscribing do you still face issue.
    I mean if you set up your linux VPS as edge and then subscriber goes through that edge - say like rtmp://linuxedge/?rtmp://origin/live - does this work?
    Can you try that out and let me know.

  • How can i build application using Jdeveloper 10g for Weblogic server 10.3

    Hi,
    We have a requirement where in we want to build an SOA application using Jdeveloper 10g for Weblogic Server 10.3.
    Is there any way to make a connection to Weblogic Server 10.3 from JDeveloper 10g? If there is any way please share it with me.
    Thanks,
    Amit Kumar

    Amit,
    SOA Suite is not yet certified for WLS 10.3. You have to wait for the certification of it.
    At the moment you can't install the SOA Suite on WLS 10.3 nor connect from JDev 10.1.3 to it.

  • Can we use different Databases (Oracle & SQL Server) in one report?

    Post Author: venki5star
    CA Forum: .NET
    Hi there.
    Can we use different databases (Oracle & SQL Server) in a same report?
    If possible how?
    Another question,
    Can we change the Provider Name at runtime of the given report. If so the above question is useless...
    Thanks in Advance.

    I tried this using Oracle Provider for OLEDB (the one that supplied by Oracle Client) and Crystal Reports 9. you can drag the column into designer but the image does not appear in preview.
    I guess it's because CR does not recognized it as image, and there are no information that the blob data is an image at all.

  • JavaFX as a SaaS/ How good is it for Client-Server work?

    I was under the impression that FX could be used to produce a Client-Server application as well as SaaS.
    a member of another forum said "I'm sure you meant to say "Desktop". JavaFX will not be making inroads on the web as a client-side technology."
    To which I said
    There have been examples of FX used with EE
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javafx/samples/index.html
    http://docs.oracle.com/javafx/2/overview/jfxpub-overview.htm
    Sales Dashboard (DataApp)
    DataApp is a client-server application for a fictional global automobile company called Henley Car Sales. Automobile sales are simulated on an EJB server using JavaDB, and the data is available via Derby and a RESTful web service. The client demonstrates a variety of data presentations by using a mix of FXML and JavaFX.
    I thought originally that JavaFX was "Desktop" only also, until I found this example. I couldn't get it to run due to some weird Database line read issue that others also had. I'm not sure if this is now due to FX's integration, or if this was something new, but I believe I have seen another FX client-server app as well.
    I'm not that familiar with the client-server side of Java yet, so if you have other Information I would like to know, because I am looking to design a Client-Server app with FX, and I don't see why it would be an issue, unless there are huge limitations."
    He ended up saying "Those are still desktop apps. Sure, they are client-server in that they connect to a remote database. But they are still traditional fat-client apps rather than web-based thin-client SAAS web applications which, these days, most people will think of when you say "client".
    My point is to be more precise when you use the word "client".
    But if your point is just that JavaFX is taking over from Swing for the limited areas in which Swing is used, I have no insight into that area."
    Now I don't really like attitudes when I get my question answered, but the high and mighty needs to stop. It clearly says Client-Server so I don't know why it's being denounced by this dude who thinks he obviously knows better.
    Anyways he talks about it only being able to connect to a DB, to which it says it uses EE tech such as EBJ, Restful, and Derby, so that's more than just DB right(I don't know since I havent' learned that yet)?
    It seems as if he's saying that only EE code can go up on a server? Or can SE code go up there as well?
    I'm looking to design a SaaS software with FX, so if this isnt' possible I would like to know possible other options(or just having all of the gui work on the client, and the rest on the backend)???
    Thanks!

    This response is not a tutorial, I hope it gives you some verbiage to use in further searches.
    SaaS to me means that the service is running on the server. If you have the server and permission to run java apps there then you can use Java FX by having the server shuttle requests to the Java FX app. But this is probably not the intent of Saas (it would be more appropriate to use a java implemented web service).
    If you are using Netbeans then it is very easy to create demo projects; use "File/New Project" to run them on your local computer.
    Example File/New Project/Java Web/Web Application will give you a hello world web site very quickly. This will 1) start either tomcat or glassfish as the server. 2) launch an html page with "hello world". then you can use java script to talk with the server via ajax. Using this approach you are going to need to study JSP or J2EE stuff.
    After this is running you could start one of the Java Fx examples in Netbeans: File / New Project / Samples / WebViewBrowser. This will start a javaFX app that acts like a browser and runs on the client.
    So, start the "hello world" app in netbeans by right clicking it in the project pain and selecting "debug". Then start the webviewBrowser app the same way to load that web page that has "hello world" in it as all browsers do. In the WebviewBrowser (which is java fx) you can get at the javascript in the web page and do all kinds of stuff. You'll need to search for webviewBrowser examples.
    The above all assumes a Netbeans solution. But, as you probably know, there are no rules. The server can be in C++ and the client in C (or any other language). The server and client usally communicate via http or tcp. So you could have a server written in java (maybe J2ee or you can rewrite a http server from scratch which isn't that hard - search for "HttpServletRequest and HttpSession" ) and the client can be in Java FX (where the Java FX talks directly with the server via http (no javascript or web page in the middle) again there are probably hundreds of libraries to talk to a http server).
    I use HttpServletRequest and HttpSession on the server side with MySQL and xml. On the client I use javaScript but I am moving to a strictly Java FX solution. This will give me close to 100% java on both sides and for my purposes this will work. (I may need a little html in the middle for drag and drop installation.) I am hoping that work continues with porting Java FX to most devices: Android, IOS, WinPhone. It is already on Linux, Windows Desktops and Mac.

  • Can we use Forms [32 Bit] Version 10.1.2.0.2 (Production).

    Hellow All.
    Can we use Forms 10g [32 Bit] Version 10.1.2.0.2 (Production) Application in Forms[32 Bit] 10g R1?
    Is it Possible?
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    I agree with Andreas
    if you are using application server 10g r2 so the forms and reports runtime version is diffirent from oracle 10g 9.0.4 you should have the same developer suit version at your client pc example if you have oracle as 10g 9.0.4 your developer suite at your pc should be 9.0.4

    Q1)That means even if i return predefined types like integer, varchar2 then also PGA is used ?The data type does not determine where the variable is stored. A string (called a varchar2 in Oracle) can be stored in stack space, heap space, on disk, in a memory mapped file, in a shared memory, in an atom table, etc.
    It is the who and what is defining and using that string, that determines where and how it is stored.
    The Oracle sever supports 2 languages in PL/SQL. The PL (Programming Logic) language is a procedural/declarative language. It is NOT SQL. SQL is integrated with it. The PL/SQL engine uses private process memory (PGA). So PL/SQL variables exist in the PGA (but there are exceptions such as LOBs).
    Q2) So please suggest me solution in oracle.Sounds to me you are looking at how to implement a T-SQL style function as an Oracle function, and once implemented, do joins on the function.
    Do not use PL/SQL in SQL in place of a SQL select. It is not T-SQL.
    One cannot use PL/SQL to create functions along the style of T-SQL, where the function executes a SQL using some conditional logic, and then return as if the function was a native SQL select.
    T-SQL is an extension to the SQL language - making it a hybrid and very impure language implementation. PL is based on ADA - part of the Pascal family of languages. The E-SQL (embedded SQL) approach used in languages like C/C++, Cobol and Ada, has been transparently done in PL/SQL. You can write and mix PL code and variables with SQL code. And the PL/SQL engine figures out how to make the call from the PL/SQL engine to the SQL engine.
    But PL/SQL is not "part" of the SQL language and does not "extend" the SQL language in a T-SQL fashion.
    So you need to check your SQL-Server preconcepts in at the door, as they are not only irrelevant in Oracle, they are WRONG in Oracle.
    The correct way in Oracle, in a nutshell - Use the SQL language to do data processing. Use PL/SQL to manage conditional process flow and the handling of errors.

  • Help-Is 9ias a necessity even for client server deployment of forms6i

    Hi
    Is 9Ias a necessity even for client server deployment of forms6i using developerSuite. I have been told that Oracle no longer markets Forms Server?
    Ganesh.

    No for client server deployment you don't need iAS.
    On the second issue Forms server (the bit of forms used to web deploy) is no longer sold stand-alone - it is part of the iAS suite.

  • How can I use jbo:InputSelect for a char type filed?

    How can I use <jbo:InputSelect for a char type filed?
    I have two tables. One is room (primary key is room(type is char)), another table is responsibility (foreign ker is room(type is char)). Both tables have same length for room column.
    There is a problem:
    If I use (in the "DataEditComponent.jsp" file)
    <jbo:InputSelect multiple="false" datasource="dsEdit" displaydatasource="roomData" displaydataitem="ROOM" displayvaluedataitem="ROOM" ></jbo:InputSelect>
    to get the room input for responsibility from combobox(Datasource roomData is from room table). In the form the room field cannot bind the data in combobox, alway select the first item. And if I select one item and click the update button.There is an error message:
    Error Message: JBO-27010: Attribute set with value H409 for Room in Responsibility has invalid precision/scale
    I found If I changed the field type from char to varchar2 in database also change the entity objects, it works well. I wonder if there are any diffrence using <jbo:InputSelect tag in char and varchar2 type. How can I use <jbo:InputSelect for a char type filed as i don't want to change my datatype in database at this stage.
    I try this in JDeveloper 9.03, 9.034, 9.04. The result is the same.

    If I were in your shoes, here's how I would do it:
    <%-- Assuming you have dsRoom and dsResponsibility --%>
    <%-- Select is an HTML tag --%>
    <select name="ROOM" size="1">
    <% char roomID =""; // Init your character var
    // Open a rowsetIterator to get the records and add them to the LOV
    <jbo:RowsetIterate datasource="dsResponsibility" changecurrentrow="true" >
    <% roomID = (char)dsResponsibility.getRowSet().getCurrentRow().getAttribute("ROOM"); // Grab the char value
    // add the value to the LOV
    %>
    <option value="<%=roomID%>"><%=roomID%></option>
    </jbo:RowsetIterate>
    </select>
    If you are using this as part of an edit page you may want to utilize the "selected" option of the <option> tag. In one instance I am doing this on an edit page because the use may open an existing record. If I don't account for it, then it will change the DB to contain the first value from the list! You can do a simple check like:
    //Set the current record's char
    char curRecord = (char)rowEdit.getAttribute("ROOM");
    // inside the iterate:
    if (curRecord == roomID) {
    <option value="<%=roomID%>" selected><%=roomID%></option>
    } else {
    <option value="<%=roomID%>" ><%=roomID%></option>
    Hope that helps!
