I need to build a WDA screen that is similar to the SAPDBPNP selection screen (user can find the personnel number based on several criteria, such as last_name/first_name of the employee). So it seems that the exisinting logical databases have already many nice features already built (like the selection screens, the logic behind the screens etc). So I was wondering if/how I can use them in my WDA application.

You cannot use LDB directly within your WDA programa. BUT, you can fetch results from this LDB by using FM LDB_PROCESS. This function module can be called anytime from any kind of ABAP program. But you will still have to create the screen, as it only processes data, not screens.

I noticed some page program can be started by tcode for administrion. I am not sure whether it is webdynpro or BSP. But can I use tcode to start webdynpro? How to do it?

To Create a Transaction code for a Web Dynpro application, use Transaction SE93 (Transaction Maintenance).
1.       On the dialog screen, enter the transaction code (up to 20 characters) then click on Create button.
2.       A dialog pop up screen appears, enter meaningful description of the transaction in the Short Text field.
3.       Choose the option Transaction with parameters (Parameter transaction).
4.       Choose Continue. The Create Parameter Transaction screen appears.
5.       In the Transaction field, enter WDYID and select the checkbox Skip initial screen. There is no need to make changes in the Classification group box.
6.       Add the necessary entries to the Default Values table by using the F4 help. The values are automatically available after you enter WDYID in the Transaction field.

How can i use function from microsoft DLL in an ABAP program?

Is there a way to use a function from a standard DLL file in an ABAP progrm ????
The dll is stored in c:\winnt\sttem32.
Do i need to upload the dirver to the ECC server? do i need to put it some Tcode before i use it in my program?
i tried to fined some clear exaple but without any success .

this is not really possible, a dll cannot be uploaded, eg. sap could run in a non windows-environment so this won't work
Why not? You can query the local operating system for type/version, you can detect the presence of a file if you have the access, and you can run local executables using GUI_EXECUTE. However, if you've got any level of decent security in place, you're not going to be allowed to run a DLL in that location...

Webdynpro for ABAP versus Enterprise Services

Hi,
With ECC 6.0 the WebDynpro for ABAP will be available. After converting my well-known ABAP-dynpro screens to WebDynpro I will have the possibility to expose all R/3 functionality from within the portal.
Two years from now the Enterprise Services will be there. What will be the reason(s) for using enterprise services instead of WebDynpro for abap to make R/3 functionality available in the portal? I think at the end both functionalities can co-exist but what are the criteria to use one or both methods?

This is not a discussion relegated to the bar...
First the short methodology is correct... Id the processes, expose major entry points as Services, orchestrate, publish Service Desc, endpoints, etc., repeat...
The real question remaining is, if I believe my entire process is incorporated with a single SAP system why would I expose Services (and add the additional layer)?
I agree with the comment where if a process completely executes in a single environment there is no need to change its strategy and force it to be an orchestrated set of Service interactions. That is not inconsistent with providing Service interfaces along the process so that it can be composed into other processes either not yet in place or requiring cross-system interaction. ESA is not saying "break open the container and make every little piece operate as Enterprise Services", instead it guides us to Service enable components so that others can consume them in a standard way, regardless of implementation / execution environment.
As we think about leveraging ESA for the benefit of our businesses (our enterprise and the ecosystem of business partners and customers) we have to acknowledge that we do not and will not know where every step of a busines process will execute throughout time. There may be tremendous value in executing part of a process that could be performed in that same SAP system in a completely different environment. The main benefit of Service enabling is business agility for a reasonable cost. I would argue that at least the main entry and exit points to major processes should have Service interfaces, followed by a more comprehensive assessment of internal process steps - looking for opportunities.
The other side of the equation is determining what additional consumers of the process could be found if major parts of the process exposed Service interfaces. To say, "my process executes inside this one system, so I should not expose it as a set of Services", ignores the potential benefit of other systems being able to incorporate that process in their execution (or parts of a process). As we expose more, well defined Services that represent aspects of enterprise business processes we create an environment where there is low cost, opportunistic integration based on standards.
Or put more briefly, make sure to execute your business process in an efficent computing manner, but do not let that constraint limit your thinking when it comes to Services. They are two different (yet related) issues. Services simply give us another way to leverage an asset we already have. Make the asset available and if it has value to the organization, it will be consumed.

Interaction between database program and report:
During program processing, subroutines are performed in the database program and events are executed in the report.
To read data from a database tables we use logical database.
A logical database provides read-only access to a group of related tables to an ABAP/4 program.

The programmer need not worry about the primary key for each table.Because Logical database knows how the different tables relate to each other,and can issue the SELECT command with proper where clause to retrieve the data.

How to inactivate the 'Complex Search' button when using Logical Database

I m using Logical Database for a select and you know that for an GET event by default in selection screen it appears some selection fields for every GET event..I manage to hide the ones that don't interest me but I have a little problem: I have a button that's called 'Complex Search' and I don't know how to get rid of this button..

I think this depends on your data model (relationship between the tables) and how you like to search later.
The optimization begins also with the create index statement (memory clause and storage clause).

Query using logical database

There is one query which is using logical database PNM. I have got one requirement to add one field in selection screen to filter the output. The field which is required to be displayed in selection screen to filter the data is from table mkal which is not present in logical database. Hence my question is, is it possible to add field from table which is not present in logical database? IF yes, please specify the procedure.

But my question is, how can I filter the data which is being fetched by standard logical database. I cannot go inside the std. LDB and change internal tables of it. I tried coding in extras, but I think it works only if we want to add additional fields in output.
At present, we are considering the option of creating a z LDB where we copy. std. LDB and also add the reqd. table which is not present in LDB.
Is there any other option?

Splitting "pernrs" in program that is using logical database

Hello All,
I have a HR program that uploads data from file into infotype 377. Everything works fine except if the file has like 20000 records the program is taking for ever to run! I am using logical database (GET PERNR) in the program. I populate my pnpindex with all pernrs from file for processing. Is there any way I can aplit pernrs (like 5000 each processing) so that I can speed up the process i.e, I want to process 5000 pernrs at a time. I tried to find solution here but no luck and I am out of ideas. If you happen to have any ideas on this, please let me know.

Duplicated entries in BSIK using Logical Database KDF

Hello everyone,
I'm using Logical Database KDF to retrieve some data, but i'm getting duplicated entries when getting to BSIK. Can anyone point out in my program what could i be doing wrong?
If i put a breakpoint in the line immediatly below GET bsik, i can watch several entries being duplicated.

                                  According to the table definition there can be more than one entries for a vendor based on the table key definition.

Radio Button problem when using Logical Databases.

Hi,
I have a report that uses logical database PCH. I'd like to default the reporting period radio button so that when the report is run it is defaulted to today.
The name of the screenfield is PCHZTR_D so I set
PCHZTR_D = 'X'.
in the initialisation event but this doesn't work.
Any suggestions how I can get the reporting period to default to 'today' programmatically.
I don't want to use a variant.

Try doing it in the AT SELECTION-SCREEN output Event.

PCHZTR_A = space.
