Can I use my Pavilion HP7 as a second monitor for my workstation?

I have a HP Pavilion DV7 with Windows 7 ultimate installed.  I want ot use the screen as a second monitor for my desktop workstation, which is where my fligh simulator is installed.      (The desktop is a Lenovo and the graphic card allows for 2 HDMI screens)
Can I connect my HP laptop to the desktop machine in such a way as the laptop does nothing except provide a screen for the Lenovo?  (If you've ever got serious about flight simulator you'll know how much you need two or even three screens!! )

Hi,

How can i use my smart TV as a second monitor for my Power mac (2010) via HDMI cable? i've made the connection but no options show in system prefs display.
    the computer:Mac Pro, Mac OS X (10.9.5), 2 x 2.66 Ghz 6-Core intel Xeon
    the TV: LG Smart tv

The Mac uses a highly-parameterized universal Driver for every display. The parameters are set at certain times when a query is sent to your display. The display MUST answer with its name and capabilities, or the screen stays dark. A TV set that is off or "not paying attention" because it is set to a different port when the query occurs will rarely answer, and so will often remain dark.
You can use tools in the System Report to see whether your display has been detected at all. If it has, the report will look something like this, but its name will appear:
The times when the query is sent are:
    • at Startup
    • at wake from sleep
    • when the Mac-end of the cable is inserted
    • when using the Option ( Detect Displays ) button in displays preferences

  • Can I use My Ibook G4 as a Second Monitor For My Mac Mini G4

    Hi
I wonderd if theres any way of being able to use my 14'' Ibook G4 as a second monitor for my Mac Mini G4? I already have a Samsung SyncMaster 913n. Is there any way of doing this by firewire using both monitors, if not what cables would I need?
    Thanks

There is a application called Synergy which you may find useful. It allows the keyboard, mouse and clipboard to be shared across computers, and even different operating systems. It's not strictly what you have asked for as each computer still runs it's applications (and operating system) separately, meaning you can not drag windows between the screens, but by allowing you to copy and paste between the computers, and seamlessly slide your mouse and keyboard input between them you may get the effect you desire. Oh, and it is free and open-source, so why not give it a whirl?
You will need to connect the machines with a TCP/IP network, which can be done either with an ethernet patch cable, or alternatively as you suggest, using FireWire - these two articles may assist you in setting that up: IP over FireWire in Panther and Tiger.
As a point of note, a commercial program, MaxiVista allows exactly what you are looking for under Microsoft Windows.
    Hope that helps.

  • Can I use my old iMac as a second screen for my new one?

I have an old iMac (about 4-5 years) that I don't use anymore and a new iMac that I just bought a few months ago.
Can I us my old iMac as a second display for my new one? Its a slow computer now, but the screen is nice and big so it would be nice to be able to keep using it like that.
If yes, what cord(s) would I need to make this happen?
If no, is there any disadvantage to using a non-mac screen for a second display? (I'm a graphic designer, so little things like having the color exact on each screen are very important)
    Thanks for the help!

Is there any way to do it without lag? Right now it works, but its really annoying to have things so slow on the other screen.
Is there any way to hook them up so they work like an actual dual monitor setup (wired connection with no lag)?

  • How to use Macbook Pro 17" as a second monitor for iMac?

I have a new iMac with Lightning connector and USB. And I have a Macbook Pro 17" with Firewire and USB. Is there a way to connect the Macbook Pro to the iMac and make it into a second monitor for my iMac?

  • Can I use my iMac 2009 as an external monitor for a MacBook Pro

I will soon be getting a new MacBook Pro with Retina display. It has an HDMI port.
My current iMac 21.5" late 2009 model seems to have a port with what looks like a little monitor symbol, next to the firewire port. And the specs say:
    Graphics and video support
NVIDIA GeForce 9400M graphics processor with 256MB of DDR3 SDRAM shared with main memory3
ATI Radeon HD 4670 graphics processor with 256MB of GDDR3 memory
    Built-in iSight camera
Mini DisplayPort output port with support for DVI, VGA, and dual-link DVI (adapters sold separately).
Support for extended desktop and video mirroring modes
Simultaneously supports full native resolution on the built-in display and up to a 30-inch display (2560 by 1600 pixels) on an external display
Does this mean that port is just for video output to an external monitor? Or is is possible to also do video in?
On the one hand it feels like a waste to use a perfectly good iMac as a monitor. But the MacBook Pro actually has better specs, and so I was wondering if it is possible anyway.
    Thanks,
    doug

Thanks for your reply. After reading the article though, I'm still not really sure what the answer is. For example, you mention something that can be done, with some hurdles to go through, for 27" iMacs. Mine is a 21.5" iMac, but seems to have the same port you mentioned in the article. Or maybe it isn't. Anyway, I'm still not sure if it is possible after reading that. Interesting information though.

  • Can i use my Late-2013 iMac as a monitor for PS4?

    Hi There,
I want to use my Thunderbolt Mac as a monitor for PS4. I searched up forums but couldn't find an exact answer for my question. Can you help me? Thank you.

According to what I can find, no. You need a converter box that works for the Thunderbolt display and according to the manufacturer of an adapter for older iMacs this is not currently possible.

    Check the FAQ's.
    Sorry!

  • Can I use my old iMac(late2009) as a monitor for my new iMac i.e. dual screens?

I have a iMac late 2009, just purchased this week, but not received a brand new iMac, i want to use both iMacs, the older one as a second screen.
The older one has mini display port, but no thunderbolt. The New one has thunderbolt,USB3 can i connect them together t ouse older iMac as a monitor?

so if thunderbolt is backward compatible, can I use a thunderbolt to Thunderbolt cable , would the data rate be increased if i did this?, Ive seen  those available, but mini port to mini port seems to be more difficult to find, I take it that the mini port connection end of the cable is compatible with Thunderbolt. loads of variations of mini port with usb, mini port to firewire etc me

  • Can you use the iPhone 6 Plus as a monitor for DSLRs?

I just got my iPhone 6 Plus and it would be great to use its gorgeous display as a monitor for my Canon 5D mark III when filming on steadicam (the rear screen on the camera is generally not very useful for filming, so one needs a monitor).
Is there a way to connect the 6 Plus to my 5DIII and have what the camera sees on my iPhone screen? And are there brackets to fix the iPhone onto the flash shoe?

Nope.  As far I'm aware, the HDMI out from your camera will show content the camera has already taken, not a live view of shots.  It might show live video if you're shooting a video, but I think you want to use the camera screen as the LCD for photographs, right?  You download pictures to your iPhone via the Camera Connection kit and your memory card.  You can't connect a camera via chord to see what the camera sees.  There would be no way for Apple to incorporate software that works with every camera out there.  And there's no standard for using other devices as a monitor for cameras.
Check with Canon or do a lookup in the App Store for Apps from Canon that are specifically for your 5d MarkIII.

  • How can I use my Samsung 193p as a second monitor?

I am trying to use my Samsung 193P Monitor as my second monitor. It usually has great contrast and good color when attached to my PC. I plugged it into my imac using a DVI to mini DVI adaptor I bought at the apple store. Now it has awful color and the whites are a muddy grey. There do not seem to be any drivers to download. I've called Samsung and Apple and they have no ideas. It is at 1280x1024. Does anyone have any ideas for me? Is there a way to get the monitor communicating with my imac?? Thanks.

Thank you for the suggestions. I tried again. The thing about the Samsung 193P is that it doesn't have any external "buttons" to push for contrast and brightness. You are supposed to use MagicTune to do this, but of course, that is not compatible with mac. Without any adjustments, it usually looks great on a PC. Do you think I could use my Spyder to calibrate it with the mac? Could I only calibrate the 2nd monitor? I don't want to adjust the new mac monitor in any way. Would that be an option?

Hi. I've got a MacBook, MacBook Pro, and a iMac Flat Panel. I'd like to use the Flat Panel as monitor for the two laptops (not simultaneously, of course.) Is this possible? If so, what's the best way to set it up?

  • Hi. Can I use a new 27 iMac as a monitor for my PC?...

... Not as a dual setup, but as a sole monitor to flick between the two?
    I have a PC running windows 7 with a Nvidia 560ti GPU.
Due to lack of space, I would like to use the iMac as both an iMac, and then flip to the PC for gaming. Is this possible?
I have googled it and only found answers for dual screen setups. Thanks
    Scott

Depends on the iMac.  What you need is something that supports video input into the Thunderbolt ports.  If you can find that, then you can view it in the iMac.   http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3924 explains it further.
Mind you, I still think it can be just as fast directly on the iMac, since there is no hardware being emulated as software.

  • Can i use an cinema display as a second monitor with 27 inch 2011

I am interested in purchasing a 2010 Apple 27 inch Cinema Display monitor. I have a mid 2011 imac 27 inch computer, and am wondering what I will need to connect the Cinema Display to the iMac.
    Thanks

If it's a 27", that would the LED Cinema Display and it uses the same Mini-DisplayPort your iMac has, so all you need to do is plug the monitor into the appropriate ports.
    Regards.

  • Can you use your iMac 27" as an external Monitor for a PC?

After doing a bunch of research I figured it's not possible to do on models later then 2010, BUT I came across a few motherboards (Asus Z87-DELUXE)
that have thunderbolt capability and obviously before I go out and spend $400 I'd like to know if it's 100% possible.
So, would it be possible to run a thunderbolt cable from a PC to an iMac to use it as a standalone monitor or would the iMac completely reject it purely based on the fact it's not a apple product?
Or could you just use the "Mini DisplayPort to DVI Adapter" to get it to work?

Even though the PC motherboard might have Thunderbolt capability you need to research further to see if the Thunderbolt port on the board supports video out and is certified to work in Target Display Mode. To date I have not seen any that meet this criteria, another PC shortcoming. Also you may benefit by reading Apple's FAQ on Target Display Mode, at least book mark it.
