  • Fixing iphone sync with outlook

There are multiple threads about problems snycing iTunes with Outlook (iPad, iPhone etc.).  This affects Outlook calendar and contacts, often creating multiple contact lists and false calendar entires, often pre-fixed "ModGrp" or ModCal".  After multiple tries I think I have figured out what you need to do: here's what worked for me, I hope it works for you.
First the cause.  If your PC/Mac has crashed with Outlook open you probably have bad data in Outlook. Most software is fault-tolerant to this but not iTunes (my seventh software to link to Outlook and the only one not fault tolerant, so I'm certain it's an iTunes problem).  I have written this for solving contact problems with explanation afterwards for calendars (you'll change item 6 and read the footnote).  Read the instructions first so you know what you're about to do.  You will have to rename a folder and delete your iPhones history but otherwise that's about it.
    1)    Download scanpst.exe from Microsoft, instructions are at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/272227.  Print this, you'll need it at step 5
    2)    Close both Outlook and iTunes
    3)    Got to C:\Users\[Your username]\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\
In File Manager use Folder Options from the Tools menu and select Show hiden files and folders from the View Tab, if you can't see this folder
    4)    Rename the folder \SyncServices as \SyncServices.old or something.  Once you have finished you can delete this folder
    5)    Use scanpst.exe (step 1 above) to fix your Outlook file.  Instructions for this are at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/272227 noted above
    6)    When scanpst is complete and has closed, open Outlook and go to your contact list.  Select each ModGrp and hit Delete, then confirm deletion
    7)    Be sure not to delete any contact lists that you want to retain, then close Outlook
    8)    Open iTunes with your iPhone/Pad/iWhatever plugged in to USB and select iPhone/iPad/iWhatever
    9)    Select your iWhatever in the Devices list on the left and select Preferences from the Edit menu at the top
    10)  Click the Devices button in the dialog box and click Reset Snyc History, just in case.  Click OK to close the Dialog Box
    11)  At the top of your iPhone Device window click the Info button (second from the left right at the top)
    12)  Deselect Contacts, Calendars and Mail options so iTunes doesn't sync with Outlook in any way
You'll get a prompt to remove contacts/whatever lists from your iWhatever device.  Choose the Remove Contacts button
    13)  Hit Apply or Sync (bottom right of iTunes).  This should have cleared iTunes of bad ModGrp sync lists and iPhone contacts etc.
Next we'll restore these from Outlook
    14)  Reselect to sync with Outlook Contacts, Calendars and Mail - the options you deselected in step 12.  Hit Apply or Sync
The above should restore all the valid contact and other data from Outlook onto your iPhone etc
    15)  Once sync has completed reopen Outlook and check the bad MdGrp lists have gone.  Unplug iPhone and check you don't have multiple ModGrp lists
I haven't had calender problems but my understanding from posts to this forum is that in step 6 above, you may have to export the appointments calendars from your calendar and then delete the calendar.  It's much more involved than having a contacts list problem.
If you choose to tidy up aftwards, go back to steps 3 and 4 and delete the backup .old folder as iTunes created  a new one when you opened it at step 8.
I have run the above three times now and it works every time.  Since every tenth or so time I open iTunes it causes my PC to lock, usually with Outlook open, so I expect this to be a frequent event.  iTunes is well documented as a digustingly bad piece of software and seems to be the penalty we pay for having an iPhone, which actually works.  Maybe when Apple adopts Flash I'll buy an iPad and double the number of times I have to run it, but not otherwise.  iTunes and Flash are the two main reasons I have not bought a Mac or iPad.
    Have fun.

Hi, to remove dummy '_ModGrp' entries, rather than crashing the 'Suppr' key on your keyboard, you can use this basic VBA macro (launched for instance from Excel).
It will recursively remove all '_ModGrp...' folders
    Sub RemoveFolders_Click()
        Dim oOutlook As Outlook.Application
        Set oOutlook = New Outlook.Application
        Set objNameSpace = oOutlook.GetNamespace("MAPI")
        Call CleanFolders(objNameSpace.Folders)
    End Sub
    Sub CleanFolders(objFolders As Outlook.Folders)
        For i = objFolders.Count To 1 Step -1
            If Left(objFolders(i).Name, 7) = "_ModGrp" Then
                objFolders.Remove( i )
            Else
If Not objFolders(i).Folders Is Nothing Then
                    Call CleanFolders(objFolders(i).Folders)
                End If
            End If
        Next i
    End Sub

  • Can't Sync With Outlook 2013 Since Upgrading to iOS 7.0.2

Has anyone else run into this issue and solved it?
    I have an iPhone 4.
NOTHING will sync between my iPhone and Outlook 2013.
With iOS 6, as soon as I plugged in my iPhone, Outlook would launch alongside iTunes because it was configured to sync with Outlook.  Now, when I plug in my iPhone, iTunes launches okay, and then it starts to sync, no errors, but never is Outlook started by default (as it used to in the past).
Even if I manually start Outlook, nothing is still sync'd.
I had no issues sync'ing before with iOs 6 and Outlook 2013.  This is only since I just upgraded.
    I'm running Office 2013 on Windows 8 x64.
    Thanks!

I would recommend using the SEARCH function of the forums and locating the many others posts that have already discussed this issue.

  • Can iPhone Sync with Exchange Server - Calendar and Contacts?

Gateway   Windows XP Pro   Outlook 2003
    Gateway   Windows XP Pro

My colleague who uses Windows at the office has synced her calendar with Outlook 2003; that should not be a problem. The iPhone directly syncs contacts with Outlook 2003 as well.
iPhone does not connect to Exchange Servers directly unless they are setup for IMAP or POP e-mail access. And in those cases it is not syncing calendar or contact info with the server, just e-mail. (As an aside, we have not been able to get the iPhone to retrieve e-mail using POP to connect to our Exchange server. POP is working fine (lots of other e-mail clients use it without a problem), but the iPhone cannot connect).
    Hope that helps.

  • Ical not syncing with Outlook exchange

Has there been any changes that my ical (iPad & iPhone) no longer automatically syncing withe my Outlook 2011 for mac (Exchange Calendar.
It was working fine until last week.
Note running the new iOS software on iPhone and iPad  but running maverick on the iMac Pro
    Thank You
    Ken

Yes. Calendar and Contacts is selected. Just can't get any calendar entries to sync between iCal and Outlook.
If I enter a calendar entry into Outlook, the only way I can then get it across iCal is to drag and drop the entry into the iCal icon on the Dock, which is manual to say the least.
I've double-checked all my SyncService settings over and over again.
    Any thoughts??

  • My Mac Calendar won't sync with Outlook Exchange Calendar

I have a MacBook Air running OS X Yosemite 10.10.1
I have set up an account for email, contacts, calendar and reminders to sync with my company's Microsoft Exchange server 2007
Everything works fine apart from the Calendar.  If I enter an appointment in the Calendar on my mac it syncs with Exchange.  However if I add an entry on my iphone or via Outlook it doesn't appear on my Calendar.
There is a message that comes up in Calendar saying "There was an error attempting to send your changes to the exchange server"
Does anyone else have this problem?
    Paul

I feel your pain!  I too am having an issue with the icloud sync for calendars on my iphone 5.   I have an ipad, iphone5 and macbook pro retina.  My macbook and ipad are in perfect sync with the icloud.  My iphone WAS in sync but somehow is now not in sync.  Changing a TIME on an existing event in the calendar on my mac changes it in the cloud and on my ipad but NOT on my iphone5.  I have checked all settings to be sure nothing magically changed but everything is set up properly as far as I can tell.  If I delete the event and add it back - IT WORKS.  The iphone5 just doesn't seem to accept a TIME CHANGE for an existing event.  Any suggestions?

  • IPhone sync with Outlook fails with sync server not starting

    Hi, Community -
Up until a few days ago my iPhone synced beautifully with Outlook 2010 under Windows 7 on Parallels (running on Yosemite, MBP late 2014).
I don't know what changed but I cannot sync the two anymore. I keep getting error messages. Either a Windows error message saying that Mingler.exe stopped working or an iTunes message saying that the iPhone could not sync because the sync server did not start.
    I have tried the following:
    Reset the sync history
Uninstalled and re-installed iTunes (several times)
Tried to restore to older backup versions (I keep backups of the iPhone backup files)
    Synced with other iTunes installations
Restored the iPhone to a state about two weeks old (when syncing still worked)
    All to no avail.
The Mingler.exe crash report under Windows gave these details:
    Problem signature:
      Problem Event Name:    APPCRASH
      Application Name:    Mingler.exe

(Yes, I know ... I should not expect support on Windows issues here ... but by now I am pretty sure it is an iTunes issue.)
Could anyone please help? I really need my calendar and contacts updated on my phone!
Thanks for any help you can offer.

OK ... I am not going to go into the depths of how a company that makes such nice hardware cannot get its act together to write decent software, too. I'll also spare you my anger on why I need to sync my iPhone on a Mac throgh Windows in order to connect to the most widely used office suite worldwide. I guess I am just disappointed at the inferiority of Apple's software and simply cannot bear the ravings of clueless artsy users who believe they know something about computing because they are proficient Photoshop users. Phew. Sorry, venting ends here and now.
In the meantime I managed to solve the above problem myself. I hope my description is helpful to other users encountering similar issues (and Google tells me there are many).
My solution is based on the rationale that after all steps described in the initial post the problem must lie with iTunes. And it did.
Here is what I did to fix the issue on my Mac running Windows 7 on Parallels:
Uninstall iTunes and, importantly, also all other Apple software (Bonjour, Apple Mobile Device Support etc.) from Windows using the Control Pannel utility 'Programs and Features'. The interesting thing is that uninstalling all Apple software will not remove all directories involved in mobile sync! I conjecture this is the source of the observed sync issues.
Remove all software registry entries with Apple Inc. and Apple Computer Inc. as author
    I deleted entries under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE and HKEY_CURRENT_USER > SOFTWARE.
Manually remove the directory C:\Users\__UserName__\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\SyncServices\Local
This will result in the loss of all iPhone backup information you have collected in the past. The manual removal of this directory is crucial because it does not get removed automatically in the uninstall process.
Restart Mac OS and Windows (just to be safe)
Reinstall the latest version of iTunes
Reboot your iPhone (just to be safe)
Connect the iPhone and sync it by overwriting calendar and contacts on the iPhone from the Mac (choose the appropriate sync options in iTunes)
These steps worked perfectly for me and I am now able to sync my iPhone with my calendar and contacts from Outlook 2010 again.
Do let me know if this was any help with your sync issues.

i am such a novice at all of this.  Thanks for the reply.  I am using Outlook with Exchange 2007.  All my email is syncing by nothing happens with my calendar.  I am using a HTC Thunderbolt smartphone and when i put in new event on ical or in the calendar on my phone, they don't sync.  Any advice?

Try this, go to your Exchange Web interface and place a new event and a new contact there, observe whether they appear on your phone, yur Mac or both, post back.

  • IPhone sync with outlook

Why does my iphone have double contacts after syncing with my PC? Each time I allow it to sync it will double the contacts. Help!!

I suspect you are also syncing contacts with MobileMe and have duplicated them by syncing with your PC.
To get rid of the duplicate contacts caused by syncing with both MobileMe and your computer:
    1. Go to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > MobileMe account > Contacts > "OFF"
    2. You will be asked what you want to do with previously synced contacts - select "Delete from my iPhone".
    3. Connect your phone to iTunes, go to device page, info tab and disable sync contacts.
    4. Go to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > MobileMe acct > Contacts > "ON"
    5. You will then get message: "There are existing contacts synced with your Mac. Would you like to merge them with your MobileMe account?" Choose "Do not merge."
    6. You will then be asked: "What would you like to do with the existing contacts on your iPhone?" Choose "Delete."
    7. In a couple of minutes your phone will sync back your contacts from MobliMe, without the duplicate copy from your computer.
If you also have duplicate Calendar entries, do the same process with calendars - can be done at the same time.

Connect your iPhone to your computer with the USB-dock cable. In iTunes select your iPhone. You will see contact and calendar syncing in one of the tabs.
