Can multiple articles be in one indesign document?

I have an indesign document with multiple articles in it. I made the articles using the Articles panel. How can I add these articles to a folio? When I add an article to a folio using the folio builder panel, it adds the entire document, even though I've used the Articles panel to specify that, say, pages 2-5 are an article named "Family Matters." Does an article have to be a separate indesign document in order to be added to a folio?
On a more general level, I haven't seen anything in the DPS literature that explains what an article is, what can/can't be an article, etc. I think that would help me. Thanks to anyone who can answer this.

Currently it is one article per INDD document. (Two INDD if you intend to do dual orientation) The "articles" panel is directed more toward epub and html export.
The concept of the"article" (in terms of the Digital Publishing Suite) was alot easier to understand when it was previous called a "stack" in the prerelease. The concept is that each page in your article stacks on top of eachother to form one article. You article InDesign file contains all the pages in that particle "stack" .
Think of it in terms of a magazine. Each "article" has its own section in the viewer and thus is own InDesign document (consisting of all the pages for that particular article). All these different articles or InDesign documents come together to make one "folio" or edition of your magazine.
My suggestion would be to get familar with the workflow to understand what is and isn't support from Indesign. Some great videos are on the "getting started with the DPS" page

How to import multiple XML files into one inDesign document without copy/paste ?

I use InDesign CS6, and I have several XML files with the same structure. Only the data are different.
I created an Indesign layout with some tagged placeholder frames on merge mode, for automated layout.
Today for each XML file I have to create a new InDesign document to import the XML. Everything works fine. Then in order to have all Indesign layouts one after the other into a single Indesign layout, I have to use the copy/paste function.
I mean for example, copy the contents of all documents to the first one. Or add pages of other documents to the first one, then delete spaces between each page.
So my question is the following:
How to repeat this process without copy/paste function, knowing that the
number of XML files could be unknown.

Yes, effectively I would like to catalogue the files into one collection so i can save as one PDF and Print as one.:)
I know I could save each AI as a pdf them then merge the pdf's together in acrobat, but I have nearly 100 files so would feel more comfortable seeing them all together before print / saving.
My concern is that if I insert them in Ai, will the file resolution reduce? and will the ai still be editable and would it update the indesign file?

How to create separate articles out of one InDesign document?

I have a pre-created InDesign 5 document that is about 50 pages. There are different articles within these pages, and there are different sections created for the page numbers. When I add to the folio, it appears to be adding the entire document as one article, not separate articles. How do I tell it to make some articles flow vertically, and others as new sections/articles horizontally?
I'm a bit of a newbie, so appreciate any help here. I hope I don't have to split the document up in order to add them to the folio separately!

With InDesign CS5 and CS5.5, you have to split up the documents. To avoid frustration, you're going to want to watch a few videos or get a little training before diving in. See this getting started topic:

Indesign CC repeatedly crashes when I copy text from one InDesign document to another InDesign document. Is it possible to solve this problem?

Without system information and details like what text formatting, language settings, fonts used, paragraph styles even down to the spell check language nobody can even begin to guess.

How do I print multiple copies of the same InDesign document on 1 page?

I made a sign that is 7"w x 3"h and I would like to print 3 on a page. Can I do in InDesign? Adobe Acrobat. I found a feed from 2008, but was hoping that something had changed.

If you're looking for automated "n-Up" functionality, I don't think you'll find it in InDesign or Acrobat.
All I can suggest is start a new InDesign document and place 3 copies of your sign on the page. Print.

Are you sure PDF won't work? It should as what you're trying to do is pretty much what it is designed for (PDF - Portable Document Format). On a Mac anywone who receives the file should be able to see it in all its page layout glory by using the app Preview or Adobe Reader. Same on a PC, the file should be viewable as a PDF file using Adobe Reader and probably some other viewer (don't use PCs so not sure what other apps).
What application are you creating the file in and are you sure you're exporting it correctly in PDF format, fonts and images embedded?

Let me see if I understood your requirement, you want to have several Oracle Instances on the same machine (processor) don't you. And you want to run a single query against this, it could be interpreted in a couple of ways, you may want to set up a RAC environment, and let oracle decide where it is going to run the query, or you could be talking about a distributied query, peforming a join against different tables located on different instances.
Further clarification is required from your side.

Can't open more than one InDesign file at a time.

InDesign CS6
Sometimes, when I try to open a second or third InDesign file I get this message:
[Cannot open "file-name.indd" please close one or more Adobe InDesign documents or books or libraries and try again]
If I close all open files, it lets me open one file.
If I quit, and restart Id, I can open more than one file for a while, then it starts to show this error message again.
Interestingly, it was doing this same behavior in Id CS 5.5.
I was hoping that upgrading to CS6 would cure it of this.
Any ideas?

As a general comment, most users don't have a problem opening multiple files, so this is probably something local on all of your systems (though not necessarilty the same thing).
Standard things to try for troubleshooting are removing all third-party plugins, including any font manager auto-activation, creating a new user account and try that, trash your prefs (see Replace Your Preferences) and start your machine with background programs disabled.

How to manage multiple articles in a single InDesign file ?

Sorry if this seems stupid (it does to me) but I'm new and can't find this info in the ressources.
I have designed a 24-page magazine in InDesign.
I've created an alternate layout for iPad (digital publication) and everything is in order.
But of course alle the magazine pages/articles are in the same InDesign file used to create the original print magazine.
How can I easily separate these article in another way than manually creating on InDesign document per article !?
Because if I create a folio and add the open InDesign document as an article, it has the whole 24 pages in it and doesn't let me select which page/article goes where.
Thanks for your precious help, I can't wait to have a first projet to distribute to our readers.

Acrobat X Pro - can you export to a editable InDesign document?

I have a few pdf files containing multiple pages which I have got corrupted indesign files of. Does anyone know if the 5.5 version and X Pro can export the pdf back to a working indesign file?

There is no way to export an InDesign file from any version of Acrobat.
That said, there is pretty good (but not inexpensive) software from Recosoft called PDF2ID which can CONVERT PDF files to InDesign files. Conversion implies that it can do a pretty good job in most cases.

Can I open more than one Pages document at a time with the IOS app?

This sounds crazy, but I can't find how to open more than one Pages document at the same time when using the Pages app on IOS.
It's easy on the Mac, but on my iPad? Can't seem to do it!
I'm working on a project where I'm writing one document, but having to frequently cross-refer to another. Having to continually open and close each document, one at a time, on my iPad is driving me mad!
Am I missing something really obvious? Can anyone help please?

When I double click on a certain box in one InDesign CS6 document another InDesign CS6 document opens. Although this is isn't the end of the world it is somewhat annoying.

Activating More Than One InDesign Document

I need some assistance in AppleScript for InDesign CS2.
I need to copy text from one InDesign CS2 document to another InDesign CS2 document. I already know the AppleScript commands to copy and paste the text.
But what I am getting stuck is the command to activate the second document. After I copy the item from document 1, I need to paste it in document 2. But I don't know the command to activate the other document. I was hoping a simple command like:
"activate lower document" or
"activate other document" or
"activate second document" or
"activate document 'Untitled-2'...
would work, but all of the above give me errors or do not work.
Any suggestions will be appreciated.

You have a list of documents but there is only the one active document. So just loop thru the others setting them to the active one in turn…

Copying a page from one InDesign document to another

I have a page in an InDesign document (which contains graphics) that I would like to copy to another InDesign document, but Copy / Past does not work.

Have both files open...
In the source file open the pages panel and select the page(s) you want to copy, from the panel menu choose move page(s), and select the destination file and specify a position.

Merging multiple JPG files into one Preview document?

I currently have 6 jpg files that display the next 6 months of my work rota. Is there a way I can combine them all into one file that opens up in Preview?

You can use Automator. Start with a Get Selected Finder Items, than add a New PDF from Images Action. Set the parameters you wish, then select all the jpg in Finder, go back to the workflow and run it.
