Can my Nano get MAC formatted?

So my nano says it's formatted for Windows-but I've never even plugged it into a PC, only Mac and of course the iPod Updater won't work with the Nano. It was gift to me so I don't know if you buy them formatted one way or the other but the box says for PC + MAC. Can I get it to format to my Mac? I don't Windows and I want to Update my music!!!

Here's what I have on my custom built-by-me Win XP SP2 PC:SAMSUNG CDRW/DVD SM-352B Audigy 2 sound card (just plain A2, not ZS or Platinum)Klipsch Promedia Ultra 5. speakersPowerDVD 6 Deluxe
Why can't I get my DVD-Audio music to play in MLP format. PowerDVD will only play the DD or DTS tracks. I have PowerDVD set to 6 speakers so that it will do the decoding. Audigy 2 is set to pass through so that PowerDVD will decode. I thought this would work, but I still get just DD or DTS!! (PowerDVD will decode DTS, while the sound card can't, so why can't I get MLP?)
Do I need to upgrade the Audigy 2 to the ZS or Platinum or do I need a new DVD-Rom (or both)? :smileysurprised:

I have been fiddling with this all morning. I had had problems with Creative's DVD-A player in the past, (crashed whenever it detected a DVD-A), but I thought I would work with it some more. I uninstalled the Creative DVD-A player and PowerDVD, then ran a registry cleaner to get rid of leftovers (there was a bunch). Reinstalled the Creative player - it didn't crash, but didn't recognize a DVD-A at all, no playlist, nothing. Reinstalled PowerDVD and played disk (still just Dolby Digital only). Started Creative player - it played the DVD-A!!!! (Sounds so much better in MLP!!!) I was pretty excited. So closed PowerDVD, inserted another DVD-A and started Creative player - same thing - no detection!
Well, this is what I have to do to play DVD-A the way it's meant to be played (Adv. Res.):
. Start play on PowerDVD.
2. Start play on Creative DVD-A player.
3. Close PowerDVD
This is a real pain!!! Creative player needs a jumpstart from PowerDVD! Maybe there's a codec conflict?
When I feel ambitious, I'll try reformatting the HDD, unless you have a solution if you think maybe it's a codec problem. I read somewhere how to determine this, but of course now I don't remember where I saw it :smileytongue:Message Edited by GadgetGirl on 0-26-2005 0:53 PM

Can I use my nano with Mac & Windows?

I have a new nano, and was using it on my Mac until that crashed. I have alot of music on it and want to use it on my kid's pc (windows), but the PC is ignoring it. Shouldn't it work on both machines? help..............

Natively, a Mac can read Windows formatted iPod so a windows formatted iPod can be used on both Mac and Windows machined.
But natively a Windows machine can not read a Mac formatted iPod without $$$ 3rd party software. Therefore, a Mac formatted iPod can only be natively used on a Mac computer.

subject pretty much says it all. can windows recognize my mac formatted external hdd? i know when i had my ipod formatted to windows, the mac recognized it, but will the mac formatted drive allow windows to see it, play the music, and possibly move it to my ipod?

Default, Windows will not recognize Mac formatted disks.
A number of applications can enable Windows to read them.

I don't have experience with any of the apps. mentioned on that page, so I can't tell you how they perform.
Maybe posting in the iTunes for Windows forum will result in specific information.

I had a mac-formatted iPod for years, and all of my music is on an external hard drive that is hooked up to that computer. When I got a new iPod after mine was stolen, I had to get a PC-formatted iPod. How can I get my music off of the hard drive and onto my PC (and eventually my iPod)? I tried uploading the files into my iTunes account on the Mac, but they don't show up in my account on the PC. Most of the music are CDs that I copied onto my computer years ago, and had on my old iPod. Help!

If you use Windows program to partition the Hard Drive, the Apple partition gets destroyed.
Windows does not understand it is a guest on your Mac, and throws garabge wherever it pleases.

In order to be cross platform you must be using the Open Type version of all fonts to cause the least disruption. Macs can read and process the Windows .ttf type format but PCs can't process Mac formatted type. Most recent versions also cannot use the older PS Type 1 fonts.

One more question. I tried using the Apple install disk that came with the computer. It's an OS 10.5.6 disk. It does not see my 10.6.8 system internal hard drive to repair. All it see's is itself 10.5.6 disk. Do you think I can use a 10.8+ disk utillity since that is a higher system it will see the 10.6.8. Where the 10.5.6 does not?
I don't want to turn the computer off for fear I'll get the question mark again. P-Ram got me going last time but for how long I don't know? It would be nice to be able to turn the computer off for the night and startup as usual to give it a rest and try to reset itself.
Thanks for your help, I know I will eventually need to re-install. But I am in the middle of a project with tight deadlines and all I can do right now is back-up. Trying to migrate to another computer temporarily to finish the job. That's a lot of extra work in the short time also.

Change nano 1G from Mac format to PC

I "inherited" my daughter's old nano gen 1.
She used it with her MacBook Pro.
I have a WinXP PC.
What do I need to do with the nano to get it formatted for my PC, erase her songs and playlists and have my PC recognize the nano? I know how to download from iTunes (have an older iPod 3G).
If I connect the nano to my PC, will it recognize the device? Will I be able to do a "restore" to get it to work?
I don't want to "fry" the nano. It has hardly been used and it would be a nice device to get up and running.

Restore the iPod on your PC. Restoring will erase and reformat the iPod's hard drive, reload the software with the Windows version and put it back to default settings. Once the restore is complete follow the on screen instructions to name the iPod and automatically sync your songs and videos onto the fresh installation. Press Done and the iPod will appear in iTunes and start to sync. If you want to update manually or using selected playlists uncheck the box beside the sync automatically instruction and press Done, it will default to manual mode and you can choose whatever setting you like: Restoring iPod to factory settings with iTunes 7

The Apple IDs from @mac.com and @me.com (Older MobileMe and more recent iCloud Names) are also Valid AIM Screen names.
Any other sort of Apple ID is not a Valid AIM Name.
A Google ID that is associated with Google Mail Account (And has "Talk" enable on your Google Settings) can be used in iChat as Jabber Name/ID. (Google Run Jabber server).
Jabber and AIM are different IM Services and it is not easy or straight forward to add Buddies from one Service to the Buddy List of another. (As A Starting point consider it "impossible")
iChat 4 and 5 have links to the registration page of @Mac.com here with a "Get an iChat Account" button in the add (Account) screen (You select @mac.com or MobileMe and then press the Button - Choosing AIM and then pressing the button used to lead to the AIM registration page but AIM moved their page).
Apple IDs can be any valid email (or an @mac.com or iCloud registration)
Therefore you could make a Google ID into an Apple ID.
However this will not be a valid AIM Screen Name the way @mac.com or MobileMe/iCloud ones are.

I guess this is what I want to do. I have jillions of photos that were transferred in a Windows version of photoshop (many different versions) plus some that were transferred from my iPhone and also in Nikon Transfer (before I started using Photoshop). Then I got the brilliant idea that I wanted to start using Mac for all of my photo projects and I'm dead in the water right now because I can't figure out how to move all of these Windows based filed to the new Mac - especial since the I have a current mac version of Photoshop and the Windows version that I have is older. I totally do not understand what a tly file is.

Can my Nano get MAC formatted?
