Can not restore to factory defaults with cd

I am working on a Satellite A215-S7416 that had a unrecoverable virus problem.  Trying to restore back to factory defaults with the 2 restore cd's and I get an error: 0A-0224-0000, Cannot copy files.  Is my HDD bad?  If it is, how do I get warranty service taken care of?

Here is the exact error from the Toshiba Recovery Error:
An error has occurred.
ERROR: 0A-0224-0000
File copy failed'
Please check (OK) to turn off the computer.
The restore cd's had not been opened up prior to doing this restore.  Is there a way to get a copy of these cd's?  Thanks.

  • Can't restore to factory default

    Hi All,
Not sure if this is the proper place to post this, but I can't find any leads on the web to fix this.  I have a Thinkpad Edge 15 running Windows 7 64 and it's quite the mess.  I am trying to restore it to back to a factory fresh image but am having all kinds of problems.
First I boot to Rescue and Recovery and before I get any options I get a python error and it won't go any further.
Then I created the media to do it via RnR after booting in safe mode, it creates a boot CD disc and 2 data DVD's.  When I try to boot with the initial CD I get a Windows Boot Manager error 'Status: 0Xc000000f   The boot selection failed because a required device is innaccessible'
I tried upgrading to RnR 4.5 but I get an error stating that it's not for this laptop (even though the readme file specifically says for Thinkpad Edge 15'
I then installed the latest version of RnR 4.3, it errored out the first time, then seemed to install but that doesn't work at all now.
So I am kind of stuck.  I have the Q: and S: drive so I don't know what the problem is for that boot CD.
Any ideas on how to bring this laptop back to the factory install?
    Thanks in advance.

not sure if you ever figured this out but i need a little more information to properly diagnose.  first off though, the last comment is correct that the Windows product key on "newer" models of Lenovo laptops are only located in two spots.  1.) the bottom of the laptop (which in time is heated up wears off and 2.) under the battery resolving the previous problem.  ok back to the information.  did your laptop come with the 64bit version from the factory?  have you upgraded or replaced any hardware in or on the laptop at anytime?  including any factory replacements or upgrades at anytime?  if so what?  has the laptop ever ran extremely hot at anytime or hot enough to shut itself down?  has the laptop ever run or been powered on with the bottom panel removed?  have you tried a different brand of cd/dvd to make the recovery disk set? have you tried recovery from an external HDD/SSD or USB flash drive?  Are you trying to recover the laptop, when attempting recovery and making the disk set, with a built in optical drive or an external unit?  those are all just a few basic techy questions i would be asking myself and basic troubleshooting steps i would try first.  if i were to GUESS from what little information provided, and nothing else, it looks to be a hardware issue...  good luck and hoping you have already resolved your issue or are able to resolve from this forum.

  • Picked up older powermac G4 from a garage sale. Can not do any updates because owner, that has now moved did not wipe it clean and I need a password to do anything. Is there a way to restore to factory default and make myself admin?

Recently purchased older powermac G4 at a garage sale. Unable to do anything because owner, that has now moved, did not wipe it clean and everything I try to do requires his password. Is there a way to restore to factory default, make myself admin and reset password? Hoping this purchase wasnt a complete waste of my time and money.

Here's the instructions if you have the discs.
Mac OS X: Changing or resetting an account password
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1274?viewlocale=en_US
    Changing your administrator password
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.4/en/mh655.html
Here's one method to reset the password without the install disc:
    1. boot computer and hold the "apple" key and the "s" key.
    2. wait for terminal show
    3. release keys
    4. type without the quotes: "/sbin/mount -uaw"
    5. press enter
    6. type without the quotes: "rm /var/db/.applesetupdone
    7. press enter
    8. type without the quotes: "reboot"
    9. press enter
This will let you create a new admin account when you reboot your computer.
Also, without the discs, look at Mac OS X Tip - No Password, No Root, No CD? No Problem.
    http://www.macobserver.com/tip/2003/06/16.1.shtml
Here is a way to get around not knowing the admin password on Macs.
To reset your OS X password without an OS X CD you need to enter terminal and create a new admin account:
       1. Reboot
       2. Hold apple + s down after you hear the chime.
       3. When you get text prompt enter in these terminal commands to create a brand new admin account (hitting return after each line):
              * mount -uw /
              * rm /var/db/.AppleSetupDone
              * shutdown -h now
       4. After rebooting you should have a brand new admin account. When you login as the new admin you can simply delete the old one and you’re good to go again!
Not sure is this will work on a Mac running OS 9.
     Cheers, Tom

Restore back up of my iPhone-password not recognised. After restore, itunes can not restore because it says the password is incorrect. But I can sign into my apple account with the password.  My iPhone is now set to factory settings as a new phone, what can i do to access the back up from my phone before I reset it.

That does happen.  It depends on how hard the server is being hit, as well as the connection speed of your system.  If you are on a windows system, you will want to disable any antivirus or firewall software during the download.

Your only hope is to place your phone in to DFU mode and restore it using iTunes (if iTunes allows you to).
Search in Google "Force iPhone in to DFU mode" and follow the instructions precisely.

iphone 4s will not turn on, you can not restore with itunes. What to do? Phone lit white screen and nothing can be done?

Reboot computer. Open iTunes on computer. Connect iPhone to computer with USB cable. Hold both home and power buttons until iTunes recognizes iPhone in Recovery Mode. This usually takes about 20 seconds of holding both buttons. Click the Restore button of iTunes. If still problem, all iPhone 4S have full Warranty. Make Genius reservation and take to Apple for resolution.

  • I have forgot my password and need help. I have not synced my device with a computer so I can not restore it if any body can help please tell me. Thanks

i forgot my passcode and have not snyced to a computer so I can not restore. Please help

If you don't remember your iPad's passcode, you have to restore it as a new device.
Read iOS: Forgot passcode or device disabled
The passcode is quite secure. It would not be worthwhile to have one otherwise.

  • Hard drive configuration is not set to factory default. Refurbished Acer Iconia W3-810

This tablet was purchased refurbished.  As soon as I got it, I went to create my backup and message is "Hard drive configuration is not set to the factory default.  Backup aborted.  I had already sent it in once to the seller for repair services and it was sent back not repaired.  They now say I can send it in again but seems a waste of time.  I called Acer and they said I would need to purchase the recovery disk which should have already been provided to me.  It does have a valid SNID number.  I checked.   If there is anyone else who came up against this problem, I would love to know what you did to resolve it.  Second problem.  Large font had been created where is overscans the entire page so reading the Control Panel is impossible.  The warranty dept created a new user account with new settings as they were unable to fix the font problem so they ignored it.  This is another reason I wanted to do a factory reset.  Hoping Acer will be kind enough to just send me the disk.   I've learned alot about refurbished products.  Never again.

Hard drive configuration is not set to factory default (I had this problem but mine was caused  by some third party partitioning software easeus. I am not pretty entirely sure what was your cause for the error, but I believe this workaround can be useful, even to some of the users)  I learnt a tough lesson and I am now careful on what third party soft wares one must use especially for partitioning related events using windows 8 GPT structure. This article specifically relates to windows 8 (which I was using) although similar steps may work as well in windows 7 Points note:Most newer windows devices now use the GPT partitioning system compared to the traditional MBR system. It can be very difficult to reinstall windows on a partition with GPT format. One must be careful on what 3rd party portioning tools they use. It is not recommend to use some 3rd party tools to resize partitions as these may mess the hard drive configuration in such a way that it will be very difficult to restore to factory settings (especially for devices pre-loaded with OEM-Windows 8)It is recommended to use the in-built Disk management utility to shrink/resize partitions.First and foremost, it is recommended to use system file scanner to check any files that may be corrupted (and most of these are normally fixed by sfc)Press Windows key + X, select ‘Command prompt (Admin)’. Enter the following command “sfc /scannow” (without quotes) and the system will start scanning the system. Wait until it finishes. Now we will proceed to the main fix; here are the set of steps I performed,Run CMD (Admin)Type diskpartType list diskDisk 0 Online 465 GB 19 GB * (an example of how the disk will present)
Disk 1 Online 22 GB 0 B * Select diskDISKPART> select disk 0 list partitionDISKPART> list partition (Note you see recovery partitions flagged as OEM) So what we do is to set the id according to the GUID (Global Unique Identifier) system.Selected every partition with a OEM typeI changed their ID's to DE94BBA4-06D1-4D40-A16A-BFD50179D6AC (see below)Partition 1 OEM 1000 MB 1024 KB

Now you can try system refresh/reinstall to factory settings (or create a recovery media)*In my case and others I researched on internet, it turns EASEUS partition master was the culprit, please don’t use that software if you don’t know what you are doing. (With all respect to EASEUS) I think this tool is still not configured well to work with the GPT partition format.

  • Upgraded to IOS 8 and restore to factory default and now get error trying to restore

I was told to restore Ipod Touch 5th G to Factory defaults to check mic problem. I performed backup which seemed to work fine and forced to install update to IOS 8. Did the Restore to factory default which seemed to work without a problem.
Now when I go to RESTORE from backup I get a message saying that backup failed "....backup session failed"
What do I do now? I copied the backup folder to my desktop as they suggested.
If I go to iTunes 12 it will show ipod with the name it previously had but still nothing.

Synced mead like apps and music are not included int he iPod backup that iTunes makes. They are synced back tot he device from yur iTunes library. If they are not in the library then they can't be synced back.

  • I can not restore the software on my 3g  I get almost all the way thru and get a fault of 1015

I can not restore the software on my 3g iphone.  I get almost all the way thru the update and I get a fault of 1015.  Does anyone know how to fix this

According to Apple documentation error 1015 is:
Error 1015: This error is typically caused by attempts to downgrade the iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch's software. This can occur when you attempt to restore using an older .ipsw file. Downgrading to a previous version is not supported. To resolve this issue, attempt to restore with the latest iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch software available from Apple. This error can also occur when an unauthorized modification of the iOS has occurred and you are now trying to restore to an authorized, default state.  Very rarely this error is caused by a hardware issue and requires service.
