Greetings Kate,
Have you tried emptying the cache? Or second, resetting Safari, which will take out all your cookies and other caches. If this doesnt work, perhaps use OnyX (free from the Apple download site under your Apple menu) to repair permissions, and deep clean caches (users and kernel) and repair permissions.
Let us know what happens..

I use Google Chrome as my primary browser, and it is quite fast. My internet connection is commercial and it is OMG fast. I would like to replace Google Chrome( I hate being tracked), but at this point, the Firefox is just too slow.
Please advise how to correct these issues.

Which security software (firewall, anti-virus) do you have?
Make sure that Firefox is fully trusted in your security software.

  • Trouble loading some web pages but not others

    having a little trouble lately...
For some reason safari and, well, any other browser, come to think of it isnt work on particular pages.
Example. The other day google.com wasnt coming up just spinning its wheels then saying:
Safari can’t open the page “http://google.com/” because it could not connect to the server “google.com”.
Another example: Safari could not open the page “http://cbgundaker.com/” because the server stopped responding.
I called my ISP and sat thru 2 hours worth of trouble shooting and got nowhere. They thought it was a DNS issue but I can reach the sites from other machines in the network so it looks like it is only effecting this particular powerbook. I've sat two machines down next to each other and it'll work on one but not the other(same wireless or wired network). annoying.
    Anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks,
    p

pardon me for butting in, this problem is driving me crazy.
i just tried your dns thing, no effect.
what i can't understand is why does my iBook display all 5 pages that i can't display on my iMac? i visit these sites everyday
-the bookmarks are synced between the two, iBook and iMac use same internet
-i copied the iBook plist for internet and safari over to my iMac-no change
-i did all the resets, clear cache, disk utility, ditch plists
-safari, camino, opera, firefox, shirra do not open these 5 pages
-macworld.com opens fine, macworld.com/news/ does not
-my admin account does not display these 5 pages
-i turned on airport, connected to someone's unprotected network and tried the sites to no avail (i have my own wired internet connection)
-it hangs on the 2nd to last item in the progress bar, ie "8 out 9 items"
-this all started sometime after the last security update and before10.4.6
    i am at wits end!

  • Can't open some web pages... DOES ANYONE HAVE A FIX THAT WORKS?

I'm unable to open certain web pages. The pages will start to open and than the application will just stall. This seems to have coincided with downloading a security update a while back. I've tried downloading firefox and it too will not open these specific pages. I've searched the forum and as of now I can't find a solution. From what I've hear, Apple isn't even acknowledging that there is an issue. I've repaired permissions, deleted Safari plist files, all with no improvement. I know for a fact that it is not my internet connection, as my powerbook can navigate to these sites without any issues, however my powermac seems to have "forgotten" how to open some web pages.
Any fixes would be enourmously appreciated!

    Thanks for the reply.
I don't think that reporting the pages to apple would do much good as it's not the pages themselves that are the issue, it's something on my system that prevents them from opening up properly. My laptop will open the pages without any issue, however my desktop isn't able to for god knows what reason. I know others on this board have had similar problems.

I can not open some web pages, what can I do?

  • On 3G we cannot send emails from either our iPhones or iPad and this also happens with some WiFi connections but not all.  Yet we can always send emails from our Hotmail Email account.  What is causing this and what do we need to do to resolve it?

On 3G we cannot send  Business emails from either our iPhones or Ipad and this also happens with some WiFi connections but not all.  Yet we can always send emails from our Hotmail Account using both 3G and WiFi.
We bought the iPhones and Ipad so that we could send emails while we are out of the Office, but we are not able to do this unless we can find a WiFi connection. Incoming emails are fine.  We use IMAP, for Business emails just incase this is relevant and I know that Hotmail is POP3.
Our technical IT knowledge is not great, so we look forward to your suggestions as to how to resolve this.

Contact whomever supports the email account and get the correct Outgoing email server settings from them.

  • Why Safari 4.0.4 cannot open some web pages?

Safari 4.0.4 cannot open some web pages, while Firefox 3.5.7 works like a charm.
I tried to open http://www.bdnews24.com/bangla/ for which Safari gets stuck (never opens the page, except for the first word of the first line), but Firefox shows the page very well. The same problem happens for some other web sites as well (e.g. http://www.prothom-alo.com/).
(I have Ekushey Bengali AAT fonts, and they are working fine in Firefox and other applications. So this cannot be a font issue.)

    HI,
From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Empty Cache. When you are done with that...
From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Reset Safari. Select the top 5 buttons and click Reset.
Go here for trouble shooting 3rd party plugins or input managers which might be causing the problem.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1594
Make sure you are running Safari in 32-bit mode. Right or control click the Safari icon in the Applications folder, then click: Get Info In the Get Info window click the black disclosure triangle next to General so it faces down. Select 32 bit mode. Also, (in that same window) make sure Safari is NOT running in Rosetta.
In case it could be a font issue in the future this may help.
Try clearing the font cache. In order to do that you need to boot in Safe Mode.
    Shut down your Mac.
    Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, press and hold the Shift key.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple and progress indicator. During startup in Mac OS X v10.4.x or later, you will see "Safe Boot" on the login window, even if normally you log in automatically. Boot time is a minute or two longer than a normal boot.
After your Mac boots to the Desktop restart the computer normally, without holding any keys during startup.
What this process does... It moves to the Trash all font caches normally stored in /Library/Caches/
Restart your Mac and try Safari.

  • IP / DNS ?  Can't Open Some web pages

Hope I'm in the right Forum here. Not 100% sure so apologies if I got it wrong. I am suddenly experiencing errors as below.... I get the same error on several web pages but to keep it simple I will just use www.hotmail.com as the example.
    In Safari I get
    Safari can’t open the page.
Safari can’t open the page “https://login.live.com/login.srf?id=2&svc=mail&cbid=24325&msppjph=1&tw=0&fs=1&fs a=1&fsat=1296000&_lang=EN&lc=1033”. The error was: “lost network connection” (NSURLErrorDomain:-1005) Please choose Report Bug to Apple from the Safari menu, note the error number, and describe what you did before you saw this message.
    In Firefox I get
    The connection was reset
The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading.
A few days ago there was some interruption to my broadband service. I had syncronisation with my modem and the exchange (two solid green lights) but no web access on any of my computers. It's possible that the errors above started at the same time but I'm not 100% sure.
I have researched and read stuff about DNS and resetting IP addresses but don't really understand this.
Importantly, I have a PC in my house on the same router which can access these sites fine using IE. Also, if I connect my Mac with my neighbours wireless network it all works fine. So - it's something with my ISP right?
Any ideas on how I can look into this before having to speak to someone who doesn't really know what they're talking about (especially re Mac's) on a £2 per second helpline.
    Thank you

    Chris. I found this post

Read the very bottom of it regarding MTU. I really don't understand these things but I did have an afternoon of downtime with TalkTalk last week and I have also just changed my service with them from normal broadband to the free broadband. Have you also dont this?
My logic says that if my two Windows machines work fine then it must be software related on the Mac. Or perhaps something to do wtih how it deals with cookies as the sites I can't access are those which would use cookies.
Any other thoughts? Maybe we should communicate directly regarding this - I don't know.
