Can Premiere Pro 2.0 open projects saved in CS4?

Hello!
I'm trying to find out how or if it is possible to open a CS4 project in Premiere pro 2.0.
I did a search online and could not come up with anything definite. I know that CS4 can open 2.0 files,
but the other way around has not been clarified. Our student project received footage from FCP, and then another student worked
on it in CS4 (because of the new import feature) and now I need to open it in 2.0 because that is all we have.
Is this possible? If not, how would I get the FCP footage into premiere 2.0?
Thanks!
-Jon

I appreciate your reply, only you didn't need to spend so much time writing out your explanation in such detail!
All kidding aside, if it can't be done how I described, how can it be done?
Why can't I open a CS4 project in 2.0? Additionally, what kind of work around is there? (like an EDL list and exporting the footage as AAF or something??)
I have a hard time believing that there is no one else who needs to get FCP projects into 2.0. Especially since one of the
students can get to it in CS4. I know it was a pain before CS4, but now with CS4 it shouldn't be a problem. Is this intentionally crippled
so as to encourage upgrades to CS4?
Anyways, if someone could describe a workflow that does NOT involve buying a mac and FCP, or upgrading to CS4 (I would literally have to upgrade
my computer too, so no thanks), I would be much obliged!!
Thanks
-Jon

  • Premiere Pro CC not opening Project or AutoSaves!!

    Hi Guys,
If anyone can help I'd be grateful as I am up against a major deadline after about 1 months work and all of a sudden Premiere Pro won't open this project!! I just starts to open and then I get this error message:
Can't get into this project or any of my auto saves of the same project? HELP!!
Only thing I can remember doing recently (although it was working fine since this) was updating my Nvidia and Cuda Drivers. I also installed NewBlue FX Plugin ColorFast. Would any of these cause the problem?
Any advice really gratefully received as I am starting to panic!
    Cheers,

I've just come accross this bug too. I moved some of my media (one music file a .aiff) in the finder from one folder to another on the shared storage where my media is kept). I moved it purely for tiding purposes.
When I went to reopen my PremiereProCC project it would not open. It would get passed the Open Project timebar but then just hang.
When I moved the audio file back to it's original place the project opened fine.
This is a bit wierd because it has found offline files before but for some reason moving this audio file freaked PPCC out.
I've tried moving the audio file again and reopening and it would not open, moving it back and hey presto the project opens again.
The autosaves would also not open because of this file being moved.
It's very odd because I've had to relink a whole project before in PPCC because I'd transfered the media to a new drive but when you move one small file it can't handle it.
This bug needs to be sorted as I've just jumped from editing on FCP7 for the last 10 years and can't afford for stuff like this to happen.
If anyone has any clues on how to ensure that PPCC can relink moved media that would be great.
    Cheers

  • Premiere pro crashes when opening project

Premiere pro project crashes when opening. I have an imac running OS 10.7.3 (8GB Ram, AMD Radeon HD 6970 2048mb) and have Premiere Pro 5.5.2. I have had 2 projects that I have worked on for hours and saved numerous times and then when I closed pp and tried to reopen the file the screen goes white and then crashes. Please help.

    Ann, THANKS for replying!
If I open a brand new project, which I could do before, and then IMPORT a previous project, it works and I can edit and export the project.  However, it did crash upon trying to save it and I still can not just open a previously created project.  When I do I get an error message that Says: "Premiere has encountered an error and needs to close down.  We will attempt to save your project."
Do you or anyone else have any ideas?

    Hi justinB,
    Welcome to the Forums.
Please go to the location of the mentioned aticfx.dll and move it to your desktop. This file might be a result of bad installation of Graphics Drivers. Please launch the Premier Pro and check if it works.

  • Premiere Pro Crashing on opening project because of Dynamic Link w/AE

I can no longer open my project because of an issue with Dynamic link.
Premiere gets stuck on an "Import After Effects Project" window (actually it looks like its trying to open hundreds of those windows.)
I was having issues with Dynamic link so I disabled all my after effects clips and rendered the AE sequences out, then imported those into Premiere.
Shortly after I did this my roommate accidentally knocked my firewire out of my imac and now I can't open the project anymore.
I'm using a 3.06 Ghz i3 dual core 4gb DDR3 Imac.  I realize that this is a slow machine for the work i'm doing but it was running fine until this whole firewire incident.
I really need to be able to open this project so any thoughts would be great.
    Thank you,
    Erick W.

  • Can't seem to get Premiere Pro CC to open.

subscribed to the CC. down loaded other CC program but can't seem to get Premiere Pro CC to open.

Mac or PC? Basic specs on your machine ... CPU/RAM/GPU? This can at times have an affect on PrPro working ... especially say if your computer is running a 32-bit system or less than adequate RAM.
Also ...at times some people have to go in and set permissions for the program or administrator privileges before it will run, so I'd check those.

  • Premiere Pro creating impossibly huge project files

I am confused as to why Premiere Pro CS6 is creating projects files that are so enormous they either crash my computer while saving them, or when I try to open them again after closing them, they simply will not open because they are too big. I have NEVER seen Premiere Pro CS5 create a project file that was, for example, 1.75GB in size. Now, I can't even edit a two minute video without eventually losing everything because the file size becomes unmanageable.
I thought it might be an issue with Magic Bullet Looks 2.0, as I noticed the file would grow enormously every time I added an effect to a clip. Not sure. Anyone else having this problem, with or without Looks or other otherwise 100% compatible plug-ins?

I too am having the exact same problem, but the only effect I've been using is cross fade (both the transition effect and jut dragging the opacity down. I think it might be the drag on effect now that I'm hearing everyone else's issues. At first I had thought it might be a nesting issue (the main thing I've been using PrPro CS6 for is cutting together animatics with ref footage, so a lot of individual images laid over eachother) but that did really make sense. The odd thing I've noticed, thoug, is that it seems to be increasing by a factor of two once it really starts getting gigantic (which I can tell because I version constantly). Isn't that a bit... I don't know, odd? I mean if this is infact the case. The size where they really start to seem unwieldly is at about 250mb. I'm trying to open that file now, remove a whole bunch of the crossfades, and see if it has an effect on the file size.
I have been nearly patient enough yet to wait for the 500m files to even re open.
Tell me, for you guys, does the load project bar always stutter at the same place, like, right below the "Pr" in "Load Project"?

  • Adobe Premiere Pro Help | Customizing the Project panel

This question was posted in response to the following article: http://helpx.adobe.com/premiere-pro/using/customizing-project-panel.html

Honestly, you did not get my point.
What I am saying is, that the icon view has no rational order of files. Why is that?
At least there should be a way to figure out, even if it is not possble to alter the sort criteria, in which order the files are listed in icon view.
If I serach for a spezific file, sure I can use list mode, but what about "there were a couple of frames with that car, and it was shot after file X … a just let me fastly scrub trough the footage in that brandnew icon view … wait … where is … aehm .. ok, I scrub trough every file."
Do not get me wrong, I love the new icon view possibilities so much, that I want to actually use them.
Please just fix it Adobe, or tell me how to decrypt the sort mechanism.

How should an editor use this view seriously?
Honestly, to sort manually.  If you want an auto sort, use List view.

  • Can Premiere Pro CC work with mpeg files?

I tried to work with *.mpeg files, but can import them into a project.
Can Premiere Pro CC impoert and export mpeg (1, 2)  files?

    Lucky ...
As shooternz says, yes ... although if you are new, you may not realize that when you start a project, you have to manually "create a sequence" first, THEN you can add clips to the sequence. Until you have a sequence on the timeline, simply dragging & dropping from either the source monitor or project/browser panel to the timeline area will not work. Nor trying add a clip to the timeline either by the properties panel (after right-clicking on a clip) or the top menus.
Create a new sequence on the timeline, then ... you can drag & drop from either the source or project/browser panels, right-clicking on footage and using the property menus, all now works.
Steps to create a new sequence ... "ctrl(cmd) - N" with keyboard to create a new sequence, or in project/media browser panel ... right-click and choose "new -> sequence", or in that panel click on the piece of paper with a folded-corner icon (lower right corner) then choose "new->sequence" or of course, "File->new->sequence" from the main menu bar.

  • How to convert avi H264 to a format that Premiere Pro CS6 will open

Premiere Pro will not open my video files, Media Encoder will only change to F4v and Premiere Pro wont open that either.
I noticed that when I start a "New" project the "Render choice is grayed out and will not allow me to choose.
What do I need to open these types of files?
    Thanks

H.264 will not work inside an AVI wrapper http://forums.adobe.com/thread/854115
-Insignia camera uses H.264 to either AVI... or SOME models to MOV wrapper
-so use the MOV wrapper if YOUR Insignia camera offers that option
-Says VLC will convert in reply #6 http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1172956
