Can signal from ethernet cable from DSL modem be split? to AX and G4
Due to desktop airport going blind to wireless base station AX, want to give it ethernet feed from DSL modem, same time as continuing to connect the AX base station which will serve other computers? What is the best splitter if there is such a thing (analogous to a phone or cable tv splitter)?
There is a product you can use to share an internet connection, most likely
w/ high-speed (dsl/cable) and it is generally known as a cable/DSL internet
router -- some have 4 or 8, etc port switches. I'm not sure which one to get
or exactly how they work. I did find some additional products and ideas in

They have wired models and also wireless ones. To retain your own AX
unit, you'd probably want a (wired) ethernet model. I'd be willing to bet
some of the wireless ones have a pass-through port so a wired computer
could be used, too. There are several models out there; LinkSys and others.

I am not sure the distance you are running.. ethernet max is 100M.. around 300 feet.
It must also be solid core not stranded.
Run a spare .. if you are only doing a single run.. put an extra run or two in the conduit.. for later!! And a string. Not that you generally have much hope of pulling another one through.. If the distance is great.. a marked access point somewhere.. in the middle.. and slope the hole down to it from both sides.. so you have a possible central drain.. because almost no matter how hard you try.. moisture gets in. -
My A'Extreme sometimes won't connect to my MacBook Pro even if I have a green light on the device . I can unplug the ethernet cable and reconnect and it will work fine. all diagnostics say there is nothing wrong. Any ideas ?
This is more about your modem then anything. Sometimes you'll need to unplug and plug back in your modem. Consider it a glitch from the ISP or just the modem in general.
when I need to turn something off then on I try the modem first. This when I'm not doing any ware and tare to the device. -

What is the process for connecting airport extreme ethernet? I have ethernet cables connected to stereo receiver for internet radio and another to blue ray player. The system preference network indicates "ethernet not connected" with red dot to left of this message. The airport wireless works and has green dot to left of it. The stereo receiver and blue ray player do not respond and give message not connect to internet. Thank you. / cfpirate
It worked for me finally. I took out the DNS numbers in airport admin utility, and restarted the airport express. I do not remember putting the DNS numbers in, I wonder from where the airport express got those numbers.
After restarting, it worked.

I just purchased the 2TB TC and set it up on bridge mode to my att verse which is connected via ethernet cable. The TC is continually blinking amber and an error message states that a wireless network cannot be found but the uverse is functioning great. The network name I assigned to the TC is also not appearing among available networks. How do I remedy this, please?
What OS on the computer you are using to setup the TC?
Did you turn on ipv6 for wireless to link-local... this is essential for network access now??
Try power cycling the network.. start up in correct order.. uverse.. 2min wait.. TC.. 2min wait.. computer.
No luck factory reset and start over. Use ethernet cable as well to the computer to help it.

Powerbook G4 Can't "See" Wireless Signal from Ubee Modem/Router
I was given a G4 Powerbook while out of town and it found the wireless signal in an apartment complex and a major airport just fine. But upon returning home it can't "see" the signal from my (Time Warner, Road Runner Extreme) Ubee modem/router. My Mac Mini's Airport sees the Ubee wireless signal fine, but the older Powerbook G4 can't. (The Airport signal in the menu bar has "bars" but they are grayed out.
Can an older G4 connect with the newer Ubee modem/router? Are there security settings that will allow this?

The apartments where I picked up a signal is in an "old folks" apt. complex, meaning the router I was picking up was probably old -- compatible with the G4 lineage. And the Atlanta airport probably has a wireless system to allow the vast number of old and new computers that people carry to connect.
My Mac Mini connects via WPA2 Personal security code, and I set the G4 to the same security (in the Network preference pane) but still nothing. The Airport wireless icon in the menu bar is still grayed out -- it isn't the "blank" icon as when Airport is turned off. It has the wireless wave lines in the icon, but just grayed out.
Maybe the G4 is just too old to "see" the newer wireless signal from the new modem/router.

Do I have to connect both macs directly with an ethernet cable without network connection to be able to transfer files/apps from the old to the new as I have tried migrating on the network without success.
They can be connected directly or via an existing network. Turn on File Sharing for the computer that will be sending files.
Using Migration Assistant will work best if the two computers are connected via Firewire cable. This assumes both computers have Firewire ports. -

I was confused about consolidating my accounts, so I continued to use my old MacBook. Can I now update the data transfer using the same process and begin using my new MacBook Pro exclusively? Can connect via ethernet cable, have good Airport signal but no connection

Pesky problem. I'm trying to connect to my wireless airport extreme basestation and having problems. Everythings hooked up correctly and if I plug the ethernet cable from the modem directly to the powerbook it works fine. The odd thing is that my computer sees the base station, it has good signal, and it tells me I'm connected to the internet via airport.
Why then can I not actually acess it? Any thoughts?...it's comcast high-speed in case that matters.

Anyway, the fact that your direct connection PB to modem is working fine, may be the very thing causing your problem. The modem looks for the PB (MAC address?). So, you can do an hardware reset, or if not then unplug it for a good while (not tooggle the power on & off, but I think I saw someone even recommend overnight). Shutdown the AEBS & PB.
---- Then after you powerup the modem & it connects with the ISP (it takes just a short few minutes, you can watch the lights), then power up the airport, then after its connected up to the modem (again, a few minutes, you can watch the lights), bootup the PB.
---- I wish that I could have found the other thread for you, as the experts do an extremely better job of this.

Extending signal through Ethernet cable. WRT120N E4200
I have a Linksys WRT120N plugged directly into my cable modem upstairs, an 8 port switch plugged into it, an ethernet cable from it run downstairs in my house to another 8 port switch and a Linksys E4200 plugged into it. I want both routers to allow me to connect to the internet wirelessly if possible. I cannot even access the E4200 from a browser, because the IP adress 192.168.1.1 goes directly to the WRT120N. Any suggestions?

There are two types of setup you can do here. LAN to WAN or LAN to LAN. Please follow the link below to know more about the two setup. By the way, I don't think you need the other switch downstairs:

Can't connect ethernet cable on Time capsule without messing Time Machine
Hi All,
I just bought a Time Capsule couple of weeks ago.
I have a mac with time machine enabled on Wi-fi. I also have a vista that I can't get the wireless card to work properly... It keeps disconnecting and connecting from the internet.
So I decided to plug an Ethernet cable between the vista and time capsule. Everything was working great, except that Time machine cannot connect to time capsule as long as that cable is there...
Can't find anything to fix this...
So either solution is fine by me: either some tips on why Vista keeps dropping the internet connection or why my time machine can't back up with an ethernet cable plugged on Time Capsule.

My wireless network is working fine. I have an AirPort extreme hooked to a cable modem and all other devices around the house can get into the network.
However, I am trying to hook up a MagicJack to the AirPort via an ethernet cable without success. The AirPort has 3 lan ports for this kind of purpose. The MagicJack works fine when plugged into my Mac's USB port, but it seems to slow the Mac down too much.
I have tried a new cable, checked that I have power and have rummaged through AirPort Utility, but cannot get the AirPort port to even light up. I've also restarted and rebooted both the AirPort and the cable modem multiple times.
Any advice would be appreciated.

I can print from my iPad but not my iPhone and they are synched to each other
I can print from my iPad3 (to an Epsom printer that is AirPrint enabled), but not from my iPhone4 (get message saying that the iPhone cannot frin an AirPrint printer). My iPad and iPhone are synched to each other. Any ideas?
make sure your iphone is connected to the same wifi where the printer is connected.
