Can't achieve 6GB/s with sata 3 HHDs

Hi all,
I just did my first MSI build on the 880GMA-e53.
Using two WD sata 3 blue HDs, 500 GBs each configured in raid 0 using the Marvell SE9128 controller. Yes I'm on the correct sata ports, 7,8.
Installed XP home 32 bit, partitioned the drive, then installed w7 pro 64 bit.
Device manager is clear and the pc is nicely responsive.
However, using HD tune it shows just over 200MB/s at best and says I have sata 2 HDDs under the info tab.
HD tune is outed.
Using Atto, I only max around 225MB/s.
I am using sata cables that I had for awhile and they are around 18" long.
Bios is set to IDE not ACHI and naturally I am enabled and set to RAID.
Downloaded a file from MSI for sata 3 support.
Why am I nowhere near 6GB/s?
Setup: PhenomII 550, two cores successfully unlocked, tested in torcher mode using intel burn.
8 GBs of OCZ black edition ram. Running the onboard 4250.
Seasonic PSU 530 watt.
When I was running blue WD hdds in my asus M4a78T-E
in a raid 0 config, 320GBs each, it scored the same HDD number as my sata 3s, 5.9.
Why no faster?
Thank you in advance,
Sabbath

You also need sataIII cables
That's also a marketing myth, there's no such thing as a 'real' SATA rev3 cable. Found this info from another site:

Here is what the SATA-IO organisation that specifies the Sata revisions says about cables in its FAQs
http://www.sata-io.org/documents/SATA-Revision-3.0-FAQ-FINAL.pdf
Q9: Does SATA 6Gb/s require different connectors and cables to support the higher
transfer speed?
A9: The same cables and connectors used for current SATA 1.5 and SATA 3.0 Gb/s implementations can be used to connect SATA 6Gb/s devices, although SATA-IO recommends
quality components be selected to ensure data integrity and robust operation at the faster SATA
6Gb/s transfer rate. Keeping the existing SATA connector form factor enables SATA 6Gb/s to
be designed into the same cost-conscious hardware architectures while minimizing
infrastructure changes.
Q14: Were there any attenuation or jitter issues that had to be addressed with the jump to
6Gb/s?
A14: Ensuring signal integrity was the primary challenge in doubling the SATA transfer speed
for a second time while using the same cables and connectors that were originally defined for
the first generation 1.5Gb/s version.
Quote
"SATA Revision 3.0 was designed to facilitate a much more elegant – and cost
effective – migration to higher data rates. Rather than completely redefining the spec,
SATA Revision 3.0 achieves its data rate increase by faster signal switching. While this
has resulted in changes to the PHY, modifications to the protocol have been kept to a
minimum. In addition, SATA Revision 3.0 is backward compatible so that the same
connectors and cabling used for SATA 3 Gb/s under SATA Revision 2.6 can be used for
SATA 6Gb/s.
This decision not only enables end-users to retain their existing investment in
cabling when moving to SATA 6Gb/s
, it also enables silicon manufacturers to maintain
much of their existing IP. Except for the doubling of the data rate, SATA Revision 3.0 is
no more complex than SATA Revision 2.6 from an electrical perspective, and no heroics
are required to implement the technology at 6Gb/s speeds."
And finally,

I just recived my Akasa SATA3 cables yesterday. I have been using the SATA2 cables and there is abselutly no diffrence between performance on SATA2 vs SATA3 cables. All benchmarks were the same, so it looks like it is just an selling argument  that you need SATA3 cables.

  • How Can I Achieve Collaborative Songwriting with Garageband?

    Hello,
I don't yet have GarageBand as I'm awaiting my iPhone 6, but I had an idea to do collaborative songwriting with some friends, where I start off with just a beat, and someone else adds bass over the top, and someone else passes that along to another person who adds keys over that, etc.  Obviously, this would be easily achievable by just exporting mp3s, but I'd like to keep the instruments all separate, so I was hoping that GarageBand is "cloud-based" enough to achieve this, where I can share my GarageBand file, if such a thing exists" with others who could add new instruments, change levels of both instruments, etc.
    Is this doable?

You can upload your songs to iCloud as a GarageBand project from iPone or iPad, but if you want to share it, alarmists would have to use the same AppleID.
However, If you have a Mac as well, you can download a GarageBand project from iCloud and mail it to another GarageBand user with a Mac. The recipient can save the attached project to iCloud and upload it to the iPad or iPhone.

  • Can't achieve 10MS/s with 6115 using VC++

I have a PXI-6115, and I am trying to sample two channels simultaneously at 10MS/s. I only need about 50k samples per channel. I've attached the code I am using. It works fine up to 5MS/s, but if I try to put in a value larger than than, it ignores the value and takes the data at 5MS/s. What am I doing wrong?

    scan.c ‏4 KB

    Hello Jwoll,
I took a look at your code and the first thing I would recommend is
that you transition to using the NI-DAQmx driver to perform data
acquisition with your PXI-6115.  The NI-DAQmx C Function calls are
much easier to use than the old Traditional NI-DAQ calls you are using
in your program.  You can download the newest version of NI-DAQmx driver for your device
here, and I have attached an example program that shows how the code
for your application is drastically simplified with the new function
    calls.
As far as your program goes, are you able to change the sampling
rate to anything other than 5 MS/s?  You're program displays the
configured selections for sample and scan clocks using the printf
statement.  What are these numbers?  I am thinking that you
might not be properly configuring your sample and scan clocks, and one
is limiting the execution of another.
Transitioning to NI-DAQmx will make programming and troubleshooting
your application much easier, so take a look at the attached example
program and see if you can use it to sample at rates above 5
MS/s.  If you are restricted to using the Traditional NI-DAQ
Function Calls for some reason, let us know and hopefully we can still
    solve your problem.

  • Sata I compatible with Sata II

Is sata I compatible with sata II?
I wonder if my sata I disks will work on a sata II mobo?

Quote from: Maesus on 24-October-05, 00:43:16
Mr. Bister, I would phrase it as SATA I drive can work without any issue with SATA II controller. I don't see any failure yet. Most issue came f rom putting a SATA II drive with a SATA 1 controller.
Can you confirm the issues please? I am soon to replace my SATA drive with SATA II in a RAID config.

Weighing on buying a Twist, can I replace the hard disk with larger capacity SSD or SATA disk? Is there any capacity limit on SATA disk? Are SSD and SATA disks compatible for Twist (say replace SSD disk with SATA disk or vice versa?
    Many thanks.

the Twist's hdd is a 2.5 inch 7 mm drive, which you can upgrade to any other SATA disk of this size either platter or SSD.

  • How many IDE drives & CDrom can be installed with SATA drives??

How many IDE drives & CDrom can be installed with SATA drives??
i have 2 IDE hard disks & 2 CDROM drives: can install SATA hard disk added to these drives or do i have to remove some???
& if it can be added, can i install 2 SATA drives???
    THX in advance

The 3 versions of this board that are available are:
    875P Neo-FISR (PCB 2.0)
    875P Neo-LSR (PCB 1.0)
    875P Neo-FIS2R (PCB 1.0)
All of these boards will have the following ports provider by the chipsets ICH5R south bridge.
2 x SATA (Supporting 2 SATA HDD drives)
    2 x PATA (Supporting 4 IDE devices)
All 6 of these can be used at the same time (provided you are using win XP or 2K) you just need to make sure yor BIOS is set right.
    ->INTEGRATED PERIPHERALS
    ->ON-CHIP IDE CONFIG
ATA CONFIG: S-ATA ONLY or P-ATA ONLY
    S-ATA/P-ATA KEEP ENABLED: YES
    OPERATE MODE:
If you set to "legacy mode" S-ATA are set to channel 1 and 2 and P-ATA to channel 3 and 4. If you set to "native mode" P-ATA are channel 1 and 2 and S-ATA 3 and 4. You can only use the raid functionfon SATA in native mode.
If you have the 875P Neo-FIS2R (PCB 1.0) you will also have the following ports provided by the Promise PDC20378 PCI controller:
2 x SATA (Supporting 2 SATA HDD drives)
1 x PATA (Supporting 1 Master IDE HDD drive)
The PATA port is limited to 1 Master HDD by the lite BIOS. This can in theory be upgraded to the full BIOS supporting a master and a slave, but this may obviously void your warranty.
So the answer to your origional question is:
    2 x SATA HDDs and 4 x IDE HDD/CDROM if you have 875P Neo-FISR (PCB 2.0) or 875P Neo-LSR (PCB 1.0)
    or
    4 x SATA HDDs, 1 x IDE HDD (2 if you modify the BIOS) and 4 x IDE HDD/CDROM if you have 875P Neo-FIS2R (PCB 1.0)

  • Would my Mac Pro accept an internal HD with SATA 6Gb/s with 64MB Cache?

I am looking to expand the storage on my Mac Pro and wanted to know if it would accept internal HD with SATA 6.0Gb/s, 7200RPM, 64MB Cache.  Also, do they accept 3 T Drives?

I would point out that Apple never updates hardware specs on hard drives.
That was the size available at the time.
Doubt any real testing went into it.
Almost no one buys hard drives from Apple unless:
They are using Apple RAID controller and want to be sure; they use SAS; don't realize that for normal customers even workstations, SATA II/III are fine and there is nothing special, there are not Apple firmware models that you need other than Apple controller support.
When the Mac Pro 2006 came out I think 750GB was the largest, and while other web pages get updated and tech notes reflect new information, that has not happenend to product spec pages. - And there are pages where the specs and hardware/software requirements are even off base, making matters even worse.
Any drive that can fit as is or with an adapter (such as Icy Dock for SSDs) that has SATA interface.
    Guess that is too complicated??

  • Neo2: Which bios should I use? And what's the deal with SATA?

I'm fixing to put together a new box using the MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum.  In taking various preparatory steps, I happened upon this forum.  I'm very alarmed by the apparent fact that there is not a single good bios out there yet.  1.2 reportedly sucks.  1.3 reportedly sucks.  Especially if one wishes to overclock, as I do.  I intend to go to 250+ FSB, 1:1.  People are reporting things like not even being able to increase the voltage adequately!
Well, it seems a safe bet that some people have been able to overclock all they want, or else the Neo2 would not have achieved its generally accepted status as the best possible socket 939 motherboard, particularly for overclocking.  That means there's a bios out there that I'd be well-advised in using.  If it's not 1.2 or 1.3, what is it?  And what's this 1.52beta I've heard about which supposedly fixes everything?  Is that for a competely different board?
Now, as for SATA.  I am going to be using a single SATA drive.  I've read something about how "3 & 4 are locked, but 1 & 2 aren't".  I am not able to translate that sentence into anything especially meaningful to me, but the gist seems to be that using a drive on the 1&2 port will, because of an Nforce3 bug, prevent one from overclocking past 230 FSB.  So, does this mean I will need to use the other SATA port for my single drive if I want to go past 230?  Or is this old news, long since fixed somehow?
    Thanks in advance!

Unfortunately I am not sure about the bios version.
But with SATA and overclocking the speed is not locked on ports 1 & 2 but 3 & 4 are locked. Basically when you overclock your system and your drive may run into problems. As far as I am aware from what I have read in the forum there is no limit on OC'ing with the drive in 1 or 2 but you can get sporadic issues
The general guideline is when overclocking use SATA ports 3 & 4.
Hope this made a little more sense (it was difficult for me to put into words)

  • How can i achieve tis in Bex Query Designer

    Hi Experts,
Please advise on how can i achieve this in Query.
    I got Location,Material_ID,Price and Change_Date.
(Change_Date is defined as both CHAR & KF in cube)
(Change date is on monthly basis they execute a programe in non sap source system to update the prices of material)
The Price of material tends to change or may not change ...
Every month we get a record from source system on material price
My requirment is to bulid a report that show
    LocationMaterial_IDCurrent Price  and Previous Price
Please advise how can i develop this report

While loading into cube, normally you map  price field coming from datasaource to
    infobject  ZPRICE_CURRENT   in your infocube.
So in transformation you map like this
    price  -
    > ZPRICE_CURRENT
Now, Maintain another keyfigure in cube  ZPRICE_PREVIOUS.
That is not mapped with anything. But is assigned a value in the Start routine
which just runs before, the transformation.
In the start routine write code something like this :
Read current value of price from cube for that Material.
    (Select  ZPRICE_CURRENT into price_curr  from cube where material = DATA-PACKAGE- Material   )
    if  DATA_PACKAGE-price <> price_curr   ( if new_price <> old_price)
ZPRICE_PREVIOUS = price_curr. (storign present value of price in the cube )
    endif.
Now save the Start routine. When mapping the fields in the transformation
dont map anythign to  ZPRICE_PREVIOUS as it is already filled in teh start routine from the above  code.Leave it unmapped.
The below mapping is normally maintained without change..
    price  -
    > ZPRICE_CURRENT
If you find this to be useful ..please do the needful (points)

    Bad idea.
What information do you want to share, exactly?  You can share contacts, reminders, and calendars with other iCloud users without the need for both of you to use the same iCloud account.  You can authorize both phones to use apps purchased under the same Apple ID without sharing an iCloud account.
Sharing an iCloud account is a bad idea in general. There is too much opportunity for someone to damage or delete data that will affect both.
