Can't add JMS topics using weblogic.Admin

I have seen a similar problem being mentioned before on this board, except it occurred more directly through management APIs. I'm working with Weblogic 6.1, and trying to create a JMSTopic from command-line using weblogic.Admin
First I create a JMSServer (using CREATE operation) and set its Targets attribute (using SET). Then I create a JMSTopic (again, using CREATE) and set its JNDIName attribute (again, using SET). All of this works fine, and I see the new JMSServer in the console correctly targeting the right server, and I see both the JMSServer and JMSTarget entries in the config.xml of my domain.
Now, I try to add the topic under the server using addDestination method (through weblogic.Admin operation INVOKE). addDestination returns "false" with no further explanation or exceptions. If I try to go through the SET operation and target the Destinations property of JMSServer, again I get a silent failure with no further info.
Is this a bug? Has someone ever succeeded in doing this before? Any Ideas?
Thanks!
-Boris

I'm replying to my own message because a kind soul gave me the solution. Apparently
it's not documented (or at least not well enough that I could find it), so I'm reiterating
it for the benefit of others.
In order to register a JMSTopic (or a JMSQueue) under a JMSServer, you do not use
the addDestination or setDestinations methods on the JMSServer. Instead, you set
the (un-exposed) Parent property on the topic or queue MBean. For example, if I
had created a JMSServer MyJmsServer and a JMSTopic MyJmsTopic, I would need to issue
the following command:
weblogic.admin <usual url/username/password stuff> SET -mbean "mydomain:Name=MyJmsTopic,Type=JMSTopic"
-property Parent "mydomain:Name=MyJmsServer,Type=JMSServer"
My heartfelt thanks to you, Ajay!

              We run the script against the WLS 7.0 server, script get 'OK' result but it didn't work (property wasn't set). Some error is reported in the admin.log on the server.
              We also run the scipt against the WLS 8 server. It worked perfectly.
              Does anyone know whether this works at all on WLS 7?

    The reason we are using weblogic.Admin is that we are using conf2admin to generate the scripts. weblogic.Admin seems to be the only option for WLS7. Thanks for your suggestion and will definitely check out WLST.

  • Creating JMS Topic using JMX/MBeans Interface

    Hello,
    I'm trying to create a JMS Topic using MBeans. For this, I first
    create a JMSTemplateMBean, then I create a JMSServerMBean (do
    setTemporaryTemplate() and addTarget() on the latter) and finally
    create JMSTopicMBean. On the JMSTopicMBean, I do setJNDIName() and
    jmsServerMBean.addDestination(topicMBean).
    Problem is that when I look in the console, I see only the JMS
    Template and JMS Server (JMS Topic is NOT there). But if I try to
    rerun my program, it gives 'InstanceAlreadyExistsException' on the
    JMSTopic. Also, when I print out all the MBeans, the JMSTopic MBean is
    there i.e. its been created. So why won't it show up in the Console ?
    Any ideas are appreciated.
    Thanks
    -PG

    I'm having exact same problem, except I'm trying to go through the weblogic.Admin command-line tool. (I'm working with version 6.1) First I create a JMSServer and set its Targets property. It shows up in console and I see the entry in config.xml. Then I create a new JMSTopic and set its JNDIName (I can't see this new topic from console, but an entry is made in config.xml and I can't create the topic again.) Then I invoke the addDestination method on the JMSServer MBean and pass in my new topic. The method returns "false", with no futher explanations or exceptions. If I try to go through the setDestinations property of the JMSServer MBean, the same thing happens: a silent failure.
    I have no idea what to do! Is this a bug? Has anyone ever succeeded in doing this sort of thing?

    Yes, Node Manager has configured on Managed Server's host machine.
    So can't we start admin server by using weblogic.admin utility if admin server is stopped?

    Hi Joe !
    I didn't get what you would like to point out. Actully, I am using same config.,
    but not to disclose the info. I gave you @test and username/password xxx/xxx.Ok. Now, assuming your pool looks like what I showed, the issue is probably
    that there are multiple Oracle driver zips around, and your standlaone program
    is using a different, newer, better one than the server. Our weblogic jar files
    include a classes12.zip Oracle thin driver, but there are multiple versions of
    classes12.zip, and the latest from oracle is better than the one we sealed into
    our packaging. Please use jave -verbose to identify exactly which Oracle sip file
    you are using in the successful case, then make sure this zip file comes before
    any weblogic stuff in your weblogic server's classpath, so we'll use the same
    driver. This should work. Edit the script you sue to start weblogic to verify
    the classpath does end up with the oracle driver ahead of all weblogic stuff.

    .MadhuriWell fine! That was easy. Your pool definition didn't have the same URL
    or
    user or password as this code. Try this for your pool definition:
    weblogic.jdbc.connectionPool.thin=\
    url=jdbc:oracle:thin:@adl-gbsdevel:1521:PROJECT,\
    driver=oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver,\
    initialCapacity=10,\
    maxCapacity=10,\
    capacityIncrement=1,\
    testConnsOnReserve=true,\
    testTable=dual,\
    props=user=mkelkar;password=mkelkar
    Let me know,,,

    The DBMS driver exception was:

    Now we need to simplify the problem. Please make a simple 15-line
    standalone
    Java program like you'd find with the Oracle driver's examples, with
    no
    weblogic code in the picture. Just make a JDBC connection using Oracle's
    driver, and show me that code. Then I can translate that into a pool
    definition.

  • Creating a Global Role using weblogic.Admin command

    Hi,
    Does anyone have an example of creating a global role using the weblogic.Admin commands? I think I have to use the INVOKE command with the DefaultRoleMapper and createRole method, but I'm not quite sure what the rest of the syntax is.
    Thanks,
    Gabriel

    Gabriel,
    The following works for me:
    weblogic.Admin -url t3://localhost:80 -username weblogic -password weblogic INVOKE -mbean "Security:Name=myrealmDefaultRoleMapper" -method createRole "" "MyGlobalRole" "Grp(Administrators)" ""
    The null first parameter identifies this role as a global role.
    The second param is the name of the role.
    The third parameter is the policy expression. Here, I've mapped the role to the Administrators group. You can also map it to users or a combo of the two. For example, to map it to the "weblogic" user, use "Usr(weblogic)" as the policy expression. If you leave this parameter empty, the role will be created but will not be mapped to anything.
    I'm not sure what the fourth parameter is for. It's not defined in the RoleEditorMBean docs but not including it causes an error. I suspect it's a description field because WLS does not seem to care what you put there.
    HTH,
    Mike

  • Use WebLogic Admin defined role in EJB permission

    Hi all!
    Can someone please tell me how it's possible to:
    - Define a role in WebLogic Admin console and use it in the EJB permissions.
    OR
    - Define custom attributes (like hours of access) to the roles in the xml descriptors.
    thanks in advance,
    Richard

    Hi Slavik
    >Will it always work ?
    What do you mean?
    >Have I made everything to make it work ?
    Yes, it shall work.
    >Is there a way to make the role-group mapping programmatically ?
    In fact the operation belongs to administrative or configuration phase of your App's life cycle. Naturally It's not a developer's responsibility. From other point of view at development time you cannot predict UME roles/groups that will be on J2EE server during application deployment. Developer cannot predict even target J2EE server. Different servers can have own UME roles/groups.
    Still at development time it's possible to design very restricted mapping. There are three constants 'all', 'administrators', 'guests' which you can use in XML descriptors. These constants will be mapped to the corresponding UME roles during deployment.

  • How to prepend or append classpath using weblogic.Admin or WLST

    When I call weblogic.Admin or WLST, is there any way to append or prepend to the existing classpath?
    Currently I am calling weblogic.Admin with the following argument:
    set -mbean base_domain:Name=base-server,Server=base-server,Type=ServerStart -property ClassPath "C:\test\test.jar"
    But this overwrite the Server classpath with the new entry.
    I want to keep the existing entries as it is and add the new one. Is it possible with Weblogic 8.1 or Weblogic 9.1

    fyi
    A tricky SQL statement issue was fixed in the example application
    at http://www.consideringred.com/files/oracle/2011/SQLAuthenticatorApp-v0.03.zip
    So, it allows for the setup of a SQLAuthenticator (see README.txt for details), but in short : run Ant target "wlst.create-domain" (possibly preceded by Ant target "delete.domain-dir"), Ant target "create.wls-start-stop-bat-files", run wls-start.bat, setup tables TS_USER, TS_GROUP and TS_GROUPMEMBER, Ant target "wlst.create-datasource", Ant target "wlst.create-authentication-provider", run wls-stop.bat, run wls-start.bat, Ant target "wlst.create-user", Ant target "wlst.create-group.sqla-groupname", Ant target "wlst.add-user-member-to-group", deploy SQLAuthenticatorApp (using JDeveloper or otherwise), try http://localhost:7001/sqlauthenticatorweb , try to authenticate using tsusertwo/welcome1
    Several Ant targets calling OPSS MBeans API were added (e.g. "wlst.opss.printmembersforallapplicationroles"), to review adding a SQLAuthenticator group as member to an application role, resulting in the forum thread "OPSS : addMembersToApplicationRole : The search for role failed"
    at OPSS : addMembersToApplicationRole : The search for role failed
    So, suggestions to resolve that grant application role issue are welcome in that forum thread.

  • Can not add Domain User to Local Admin Group Win8.1

    Hello,
    I am trying to add a domain user to the local admin account on a Win8.1 Enterprise computer. When I click the check name button it asks me to enter network credentials even though I am signed in to the computer with a domain admin account. When I try to
    type in any of my domain admin accounts it says "The Username or Password is incorrect". Even though I used that same account to login with. I can successfully ping all 3 of my DCs from the computer and have tried putting my second DC as the primary
    DNS and my third DC as the primary DC and same problem. I have checked for Active Directory errors on the DC and everything says it is running fine on the DC in server manager. I have this problem on multiple computers. Some of the computers it will work on
    but 90% of them it won't allow me to add the local user to the local admin group.
    DCs are running Win Server 2008 R2 Enterprise.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank You

    I would suggest you to use Restricted Group(via GPO) to add domain users/group to a local admins group
    1)Create a new group in Active Driectory
    Create a new group in Active Driectory that you wish to add to every workstations local administrator group. DO NOT add any users to this group at this time.
    2.
    Create a new GPO
    Create a new group policy object and link it to the desired OU. Make sure that the GPO you are using covers the OU that the WORKSTATIONS you are wanting to give users local administrative rights over.
    3.
    Edit the newly created GPO
    Navigate within the newly created GPO to Computer Configuration -> Policies -> Windows Settings -> Security Settings --> Restricted Groups
    4.
    Add your new Active Directory group to the Restricted Group
    Right-click the Restricted Groups folder and select "Add Group" to add your new Active Directory group to the Restricted Group. In the Group field, type the name of the newly created Active Directory group and click "OK"
    5.
    Add the Restricted Group to the local administrator group
    In the Restricted Group Properties windows click "Add" under the section titled "This group is a member of:" Type "Administrators" (without the quotes and yes it is plural), in the Group Membership window and click "OK"
    6.
    Wait for GPO updates to apply to the workstations
    Once your users receive their updated group policy settings every workstation within the OU you specified will have your new Active Directory group as a member of the local administrators group. If you need to force the GPO update on a specific workstation,
    run "gpupdate /force" in a command window on that workstation.
    7.
    Add a user or group of users to the Active Directory Restricted Group
    When you are ready, or in a position where you need to provide local workstation admin rights you can simply add the users or group of users to the Active Directory group that you created for use with Restricted Groups within your Active Directory Management
    Console.

  • Can't add Shared Member using API

    I would like to create a lot of shared members.Using API I do it as following according to documentation: ESS_MBRINFO_T MbrInfo; memset(&MbrInfo, '\0', sizeof(MbrInfo)); strcpy(MbrInfo.szMember, (char*)mbrName); MbrInfo.usShare = ESS_SHARE_SHARE; sts = EssOtlAddMember(getOutline(), &MbrInfo, ESS_NULL, hMbr, &hNewMember); When I try to add shared member, then sts = 1060051.So I have to change names and after correct them manually.Using HAB API I can't add shared member too.Regards,Georgy
