Can't add songs to existing playlists with iOS 7.1
Yesterday, I downloaded the new iOS 7.1 update. Tonight I tried adding songs to an existing playlist, and they aren't there. I went though the steps. From Playlists, I tap edit, tap (+) to add songs and then tap on the songs I want to add. Then I tap Done. When I go back to the playlist, they aren't there. Is this a glitch with the new update? Or is there a step I am missing? Please help!!

If you use this feature, as shown in my previous screenshot, then unticking a song will cause it to be removed from your iPod at the next Sync, but left in your Library. Leave the ticks turned on.

The Playlist Folders are a method of grouping Playlists together, making them easier to find. The reason they are shown in the right-click is to make the Playlists easier to find. Look at the screenshot below, all the "Sleep" Playlists are in my "Sleep Time" folder.

I bought a subscription to iTunes Match. I'm using iTunes 10.6.3.25 on a PC with a Windows 7 OS. When I attempt to drag a track from my music collection to an existing Playlist, a window containing the following warning appears on my screen:
"iCloud playlists can only contain songs from your iCloud music library.
If you continue, this (name of Playlist) will be removed from iCloud and will be available on this computer."
I can click onto my choice of one of the two boxes below the message. One says Remove Playlist & Continue. The other says Cancel.
I'd like to be able to add songs to my Playlists at any time and set Match so that it backs up the Playlist. How can I do this and avoid the above message that I'm receiving from Apple?I was having this very same issue and by reading through the posts I learned to update iTunes Match. I subscribed to iTunes Match a while back but for some reason, maybe through an iTunes update, iTunes Match was switched off. I turned it on and it updated. After that I was able to add songs to Playlists. Hope this helps, if you haven't already figured it out. Cheers.

How do I add songs to existing playlists on the iPhone?
I've tried going to the playlist, tapping the + button. Then I select the song by tapping it, it grays out as though selected. I tap done, and again done in the playlist. But the song is not appearing in the playlist. Am I missing something?

To change or delete a published playlist:
Sign into the iTunes Store with your Apple ID, if you haven’t already.
In the Playlists section of the iTunes Store, click All Playlists By This User.
Select the playlist you want to change or delete, and then click Edit.
Do any of the following:
To change the playlist’s title and description, type any changes.
To add a song, click Add Songs, select a song, and then click Add. When you’re finished adding songs, click Done.To find a song by album, artist, or song title use the Search field.To hear a 30-second preview of the song before adding it, double-click the song’s title or click the Preview button .
To remove a song, click the “x” to the right of the Buy button for the song you want to remove.
To arrange your playlist, drag songs in the order you want.
To delete the playlist, click Delete this playlist.
When you’re finished making changes, click Save. -
Can't add tracks to existing playlists using iTunes for Windows11.1.5.5
The tried and true method of right clicking a track, selecting "Add To Playlist" and selecting a playlist no longer works. There's not response to the end of the process. I'm just back in the original view of the library. When I check the playlist, the track hasn't been added. I don't know what the purpose of the "check box" is but I made sure the original track was checked before attempting the add.

Can't add songs - ipod is already with another music library?
i have to computers which i used the same ipod on and i have always been able to add songs from wither computer. but now when i try to add songs onto the ipod from either computer, it states that the ipod is already in use with another music library. it recognises it in itunes, i just can't add any songs.
Use the instructions in this article on either machine to set the iPod to synchronize music manually.

I can't add songs to playlists
For some reason I can't add songs to a playlist, whether it's by the new drag & drop feature or even right click & add to playlists. Song's just aren't being added.
What am I doing wrong?

I used to be able to add a song to a playlist with iOS 7. I've spent hours searching for a way to do this in iOS 8 with no luck, Does anybody know how to do it? I can't find a single example using Google! It's driving me nuts. Did they take it away? Why make it so complicated?

The playlist option is still available in iOS 8. Here are the steps on how to create and edit playlists.
Playlists
Create playlists to organize your music. View Playlists, tap New Playlist near the top of the list, then enter a title. Tap to add songs or videos.
Edit a playlist. Select the playlist, then tap Edit.
Add more songs: Tap .
Delete a song: Tap , then tap Remove. Deleting a song from a playlist doesn’t delete it from iPhone.
Change the song order: Drag .
New and changed playlists are copied to your iTunes library the next time you sync iPhone with your computer, or through iCloud if you’ve subscribed to iTunes Match.
Clear or delete a playlist you created on iPhone. Select the playlist, then tap Clear or Delete.
Remove a song from iPhone. Tap Songs, swipe the song, then tap Delete. The song is deleted from iPhone, but not from your iTunes library on your Mac or PC, or from iCloud.

How can i add songs to a family members ipod without erasing her existing song list.
For future reference, since I came here for the same reason, I'd like to add to the solution. The link was not complete in explaining how to, but then again I'll just trying to attempt to fill in the gap.
After opening iTunes, on the upper left hand side is a small icon with an arrow pointing down. Click on the arrow and a menu pops out. Click on "Show Menu Bar." On the new bar(Older iTunes File, Edit, View, Controls, etc. bar at the top). Click on View and then Show Side Bar. There you can just click and drag new songs into your iDevice without any problems... hopefully...
Seriously, this helped me, so if Apple finds a way to not allow me to do this simple task of adding purchased songs into my idevices from another computer, I'll have to resort to other means.
The one idevice that's having trouble with is my iShuffle(2nd). -
iPhone won't sync with iTunes and It says iTunes can not add songs to iPhone because no songs in iTunes library can be copied to iPhone. Help!!!! What should I do. I tried everything!
I need to add my music to my iPhone from iTunes but its not working!First off try and go into your IPhone manually through My Computer and cut photos or anything you can through the device to be able to free space up so that you can continue to do what you want to do with ITunes. This way you will be able to create a backup or do what you have to do to manage your information, photos and texts on your device a little better.

An erroe happened when i open my itunes , error -42032,my ipod wasn't connect to my pc at that point, the results is that i can't add songs and movies that i'm buying or had already bought in my ipod because it says that my pc isn't authorized to do it. the point is that i'm using this pc for the last 3 years with my itunes and ipod

I found this thread via a search, I have a new iphone 5 (also i am completely new to iphone, having been the last few years on android) and i have spent 20 minutes trying to figure out how to add a song to a playlist.
You see i sit a work and listen to dozens of tunes, and i want to add a paticular song to a particular play list, and low and behold I can't, excuse my special characters but "What the f#%k itunes/apple??? - how can this be? Such a commonly needed function and for itunes to be the number music player in the world not to have this feature is ludicrus.
I am lucky that i only have about 500 songs on my iphone thus far, i feel sorry for stephanW with 4000+ !!

i downloaded 3 songs to my pc and sync'd my ipod and the songs do not tranfer. is this related to not having the proper itunes version vs ios? I cannot get the songs to sync, but I can move other songs to different playlists and they sync fine...any ideas what's wrong?

I have a couple of steps for you to try in order to get those songs transferred to your iPod touch. First, make sure all of your software is updated with the latest versions. If the songs were downloaded from iTunes, you will also want to delete the songs from your library and then download them again from the list of past purchases on your iTunes account. If you try a sync after those two steps and are still seeing the issue, then I would like you to try syncing the iPod by setting it to manually manage. An article outlining more information on manually managing your iPod sync can be found here:

neither my ipad or ipod are being recognized by itunes so i can't transfer songs from itunes playlists to the two devices. this is new, as far as a week ago i transferred music from the computer to the ipod. can anyone help?

How can i set songs within a playlist, or an entire playlist, so that they are not included when using the shuffle function on IPOD Classic?
Is this possible?You can set any song to Skip when shuffling.
In your iTunes Library, highlight the song and right-click/Get Info. On the Options tab is the Skip when shuffling box. Select that and then Sync the iPod with your Library. -

Your question is clear, but you then go on to say something completely different. I've answered your question "how can (you) shuffle songs in a Playlist in iTunes 11".
In Playlists, click on the "start playing in shuffle mode" icon (that I've ringed). And...
In this next shot (the space you need to watch), you can see the Shuffle icon (ringed in larey lime) is blue, so it's "on", and I've also clicked on the "show me what's coming up next" icon (ringed in red). Study the list of upcoming songs. It's the Playlist we're in, but shuffled:

Now - if you actually mean something else, such as: "create the Playlist, adjust the order of the songs and then Sync it to the iPod"; then as before, you can drag songs within a Playlist to whatever order you want and Sync the Playlist - as before. I've no idea what the "button" you refer to, looked like. Can you explain?
