Your icloud storage must be full, from emails, backups, and other data.
    Go to
Settings>General>Usage.  This tells how much storage is used on both iCloud and on the device.

  • Mail will not send mail, only receive.

I have spent the majority of today re-installing OS X and all necessary updates, music, data after the death of a hard drive. Luckily everything went perfectly, except for the same problem I had with Mail even before the 1st hard drive died. Mail will not send mail, only receive.
All efforts time out and give me this message: "The connection to the server mail.earthlink.net on port 25 timed out"
Mail used to send messages, but stopped suddenly in 2004 and has yet to start again. Any idea guys?! I can't figure it out, under Account settings I have necessary fields filled in: Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) is set to "mail.earthlink.net", Server Port is set to 25, and Authentication drop menu is set to None.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    --DANIEL

This is NOT a problem with Mail or OS X. This is an incorrect settings problem - garbage in = garbage out and this information is certainly available at Earthlink's website and Earthlink also provides technical support.
Earthlink has an authenticated SMTP server they changed to long ago.
    SMTP Server: smtpauth.earthlink.net
Server Port: 587 but 25 should work if you are using Earthlink as your internet service provider for connecting to the internet.
Use SSL: Off or not selected.
    Authentication: MD5 Challenge-Response
User Name: Your ENTIRE Earthlink email address.
Password: The account's password - the same password used to check the incoming mail server for new messages.

Well, this is a recurring issue for many users...a small percentage of users but still a bug.  Report the issue here to Apple:  www.apple.com/feedback
iOS7.0.3 will be released next week, which as of now, I know is primarily for an iMessage but hopefully it will clear up some of these email issues some are also having.

  • My (postage stamp icon) mail program will not send outgoing mail - only receives, what's up with that?

My (postage stamp icon) mail program will not send outgoing mail - only receives mail.
Says the outgoing mail server is wrong, but Comcast says it's right - what's up with that?
Is there a way to reload the standard (postage stamp icon) mail program?

Clearly there's something wrong with the configuration. Reverting to some other mail application (whatever the 'standard' one is...) won't help.
What does the Connection Doctor (Mail -> Window -> Connection Doctor) have to say about it?
Chances are your username/password for your SMTP server are incorrect.

  • Thunderbird can download and send mail with Cox POP Mail, Mail cannot?

I have Thunderbird and Mail installed.
I can download and send mail with Thunderbird.
I can't even set-up an account with Mail because it cannot find the POP Mail server.
I have Firewall on with ports 25, 110 and 587 open.
This really seems strange that I can use Thunderbird to set up and use POP Mail access to Cox, but not Mail.
    My servers are:
    pop.central.cox.net
    smtp.central.cox.net
I've followed the steps on Cox's support web site, no success.
I've already called Cox, they're clueless.
Thoughts or suggestions are greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,

    Hi Todd,
Well since Tbird works, we can rule out lots of things.
Mail cannot find the POP server
You are using the Welcome to Mail assistant to do this, and when you type in your incoming mail server info it spins the gear a bit, gives an error, and says that if you continue Mail may not work -- yes? What does the error say specifically?
No disrespect at all, but the most likely problem is a typo somewhere / mis-specified username. Please go 'round once more.
    Good luck,
    John

  • Can't send e-mails, only save drafts - Blackberry 8520

Somehow, I can't send e-mails regulary anymore. The only way to do this is by goinb to my address book, select a contact and click the send e-mail option. However, if I start composing an e-mail without doing this, the only option I get it "save draft", meaning there is no "send" option anymore. I didn't make any changes on my phone settings or anything, this just happened somehow. I would appreciate any help. Thanks in advance for your response.

Have you done these steps exactly as documented above, and in the order above? The order you've laid out is not the same. Plus, I cannot tell, from what you say, what the results of each step were. Did you receive the proper registration message after doing the HRT? Did you receive further messages when you resent the service books? Do you have a full and proper data plan on your BB from your carrier? Are you shifting from a prior carrier? If so, has the prior carrier properly released your BB from their system?
Good luck and let us know!

  • Multiple alias email addresses in mail, only receiving mail from one

I have set up additional alias addresses for my virgin.net account and added these to the email address field in mail preferences separated by comma's, but only the mail from the original one comes in although I can access the mail of the additional ones on their webmail and send email from them from mail. Anyhing else I needed to do?

    Yes.
If each email address has a different password, then this also indicates each email address has it's own user name to check the incoming mail server for new mail. The user name for an email account is usually the portion of the email address in front of the @ sign only but for some ISPs and email account providers, it is the entire email address.
The user name for each email address is the key.
If each email address has its own user name and password, then you must create each email address as a separate account in Mail.
You can create separate accounts in Mail that use the same incoming mail server and each can have the same password as long as each account has a different user name.
When creating an email account in Mail, an account named folder is created at the first level within the Mail folder at Home > Library > Mail named by the user name and incoming mail server for the account. The mailboxes accociated with the account such as the account's Inbox, Drafts, Sent, Trash and Junk (when Junk Mail is set to automatic) mailboxes are located within the account named folder.
This is why you cannot create separate accounts in mail that utilize the same user name and incoming mail server.
An "alias" email address to the primary account/email address uses the same user name, password and incoming mail server as the primary account/email address. If so, the only way to add an alias email address to the Mail.app for access is by adding the alias email address to the email address field separated by a comma under the Account Information tab for the primary account preferences.

  • I have to shut down and restart mail to receive mail.

Since I installed the new system on my MacBrook Pro, I have to force quit and restart my mail to receive it.  This is also happening on my brand new desktop (10.7.1), but not on my iPhone or iPad.

Thanks for your reply Carlo TD, I was just about to ask you what further info should I be giving however the problem seems to have cleared itself.  I've not had to shut down and restart for about 6 hours or so now.  However if the issue arises again I will be back here to try and solve it.  Thank you again.

  • HT3748 for some reason i can not send mail only receive it on hotmail

For some unknown reason i can only recieve mail and not send it on hotmail, it has worked perfectly before.

    my servers are offline
Orange has a Problem, not you.
    Mail >Window > Connection Doctor ...
... it will probably show that your email sender and email receiver are both unreachable. If it ever worked before, this is probably not YOUR problem.
Try their WebMail (Use a Web Browser to surf to their Web address and try to pick up your mail from there.)
At this writing, EarthLink in the US is down for a large group of Users in New York and New England area.

  • I Phone 4: I can't send the mail, just receive from libero account (wind connection)

help! On my Iphone 4 I just setted the libero account by wind. Now I can receive but it's impossible to send.
    thanks

Setting up a gmail account does not require specific SMTP settings. If you are going to 'mail contact and calendars' go to where it reads 'add account' you should then be able to add a gmail account seamlessly. IF however you are using a gmail app as the vehicle to being used when accessing your gmail email account this may be the issue.
Before adding an secondary email account please ensure you don't have the same account (gmail account) already on your device prior to adding the secondary account.
Please do this: verify you don't have alternate gmail accounts on your device. ( settings to mail, contacts, calendars) check to see that you don't have a gmail account already listed. IF you have a gmail account already you will then delete this account PRIOR to attempting to add another gmail account.
Once you have deleted the first gmail account this opens the door for you to then add a new gmail account.
Once the account is added as the ONLY gmail account attempt to then send yourself an email to this email address.
To do this you will want to go to the inbox of the account go to compose put into the address area YOUR email address go to the subject area and type in the words TEST and in the area where you type the information of the email type in the words TEST.
from there click on send to see if the account is working
    good luck .

  • Cannot send mail. only receive, at home. fine at work

I have 2 email addresses and both receive mail fine no matter which server I am using. However I cannot send outgoing mail from either address when I am at home. I CAN send mail at work or school, however, using their servers.
It gets worse though, because none of my roommates are having any problems with their mail! (But none of them have macs). So they can all send mail at home, but I cannot.
    Any ideas?

Most, if not all ISPs used for connecting to the internet block the use of SMTP servers that are outside of their network on Port 25. Some ISPs allow the use of an authenticated SMTP server only that is outside of their network on Port 25 but some block its use regardless. Each ISP has different restrictions. These restrictions are in place as part of an overall effort to prevent spam emanating from the ISP's domain.
If an ISP is blocking the use SMTP servers that are outside of their network, it makes no difference if you are using an email client on a Windows PC or on a Mac.
Are you using the same or a different SMTP server for each account and if you are using a different SMTP server for each account, is one or both authenticated?
Who is your ISP used for connecting to the internet when at Home and do you have access to an email account and SMTP server that is provided by your ISP at Home?
    Something to try first.
Go to Mail > Preferences > Accounts and under the Account Information tab for the account preferences at the SMTP server selection, select the Server Settings button below. Enter 587 in place of 25 in the Server Port field and when finished, select OK to save the changed setting.
Do this for each SMTP server if you use a different SMTP server for each account.
If this does not resolve the problem, you need to contact your ISP used for connecting to the internet when at Home to determine what is required to send messages with an SMTP server that is outside of their network or that isn't provided by the ISP.
If you have access to an email account and SMTP server provided by your ISP at Home, try adding the ISP's SMTP server to the Mail.app and select this SMTP server for each account which is invisible to all recipients.
When returning to work or school, you might be able to use this SMTP server for both accounts and if not, you must select the previous SMTP server or servers for each account.

  • Lost inbox and sent mail only

There are lots of posts on this but not exactly as it's happened in this case. I have read thru all the posts and was able to recover some files but not all. Apparently MAIL was quiting and when data was imported, acct settings were changed. There were over 8,000 emails in INBOX and as much in SENT. Here's what's in the mail folder:
    default counts
    envelope index
    LSMMap@
    Mailboxes (folder)
    messagesrules.plist
    messagerules.plist.backup
    messagesrules.plist
    messagerules.plist.backup
    POP-(email address) (folder) >
    ...deleted messages.mbox
    ...drafs.mbox
    ...junk.mbox
    ...MessagesUidsAlreadyDownloaded
    ...MessagesUidsAlreadyDownloaded2
    ...Sent Messages.mbox
POP-(same email address) (folder) Same except inside only has > INBOX.mbox, Junk.mbox, MessagesUidsAlreadyDownloaded2
    signatures (folder)
    smartMailboxes.plist
I assessed that most of the emails that are not coming thru to MAIL were in the first POP listed. I can see the emails if I open each one for the years missing 2005 and 2006.
I cleaned out dups of imports and rebuilt mailboxes. it was 6.6Gigs now down to 3GB.
I used "other' to import what did get imported via copying mbox file onto desktop and retrieved 2004 and some 2005 files.
How can I get them to show up in MAIL?
    thank you
    G4 powerbook   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    You’re welcome.
The reason I post your entire quote is so that you have
    complete info again
I see the entire thread every time I read any of the posts, so the only thing quoting everything accomplishes is actually reducing the amount of relevant information I can see on the screen.
Did you get a chance to read all of my replies?
Yes, and none of them explained what prevents you from solving the problem doing what I suggested in my first post...
I don't feel that you understood that I have done the easy import
as per your email several times which did not resolve my problem.
The only place where you mentioned having already tried importing anything is your first post, and the first thing I said in my reply to that post is precisely that I didn’t understand what you said there. So yes, you’re right that I didn’t understand it. Moreover, I still don’t understand it...
I am here because NOT all emails were recovered
And I’m trying to help you recover them, but I cannot do so if you don’t explain what’s the problem exactly.
Email stored in the individual MAILBOXES did import.
This, for example, doesn’t make sense. All the messages are stored in one mailbox or another. It doesn’t make sense that you can import the mailboxes but not the messages. Mail’s mailboxes in the filesystem are folders with an .mbox suffix, e.g. INBOX.mbox. Maybe you’re calling ‘mailbox’ something else?
ps. when I import using OSX I get the following error:
"No valid mail for OSX files were found"
Ahhh! Now, this makes sense. This is the first thing you’ve said in this thread that allows me to understand what’s the problem exactly. Wouldn’t it have been easier if you had reported from the very beginning any error messages you were getting?
Pay attention to the instructions that Mail displays when choosing Mail for Mac OS X as the data format. Mail wants you to select the folder that contains the mailboxes to be imported (i.e. the POP account folder in your case), not the *.mbox folders themselves. If you select the *.mbox folder itself, Mail says “No valid Mail for Mac OS X files were found” because it cannot find any *.mbox folders within the folder you’re selecting.
I was able to recover some emails using the "other" radial in import.
If you could recover any messages importing as Other, that means those mailboxes have files used by Mail 1.x (Mac OS X 10.3) that Mail 2.x (Mac OS X 10.4) leaves there after the conversion to the new *.emlx format. The only messages you would find there would be from before upgrading that computer to Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger).
Maybe it’s one of those files (mbox) what you’re calling ‘mailbox’? If that’s the case, wouldn’t it have been clearer referring to those files by their name instead of (or in addition to) interpreting what they are?
The only items within a mailbox (i.e. within an *.mbox or an *.imapmbox folder) used by Mail 2.x are Info.plist and the Messages folder. Any other files you may see there are almost certainly Mail 1.x files that Mail 2.x leaves there after the conversion. This is poorly explained in Mac OS X 10.4 Mail: Some mailbox files used by Mac OS X 10.3 are not deleted after importing. The article only talks about mailboxes in ~/Library/Mail/Mailboxes/, but the same can also be said about mailboxes in “POP-”, “IMAP-”, or “Mac-” account folders.
