Can't burn a cd on itunes

I am having the same problem with my PC and itunes. I cannot burn a cd nor can I play a burned CD. It will play a compressed store bought cd ? I ran Itunes diagnostics and here are my specs

I had a look at your downloads page at HP. You look to be up to date on your firmware for the DVD writer, and there hasn't been a BIOS update for three years. No new drivers for other componentry.
Is the burning trouble something that has only just recently come on? Or has the PC never been able to burn properly using iTunes?

I can't burn a cd from Itunes.

I can't burn a cd from Itunes....If I try to burn a playlist it says i need multiple cd's and I only have 5 songs on that playlist. If I try to burn it anyway it doesn't do anything.

BTW have tried two kinds of disks, one kind of which I have a burned playlist from last year so I don't think it is the disks.

It sounds like you are unable to burn a disc with iTunes due to this error code. I would first use the following article to check issues with the type of disc drive:

After Upgrading to lion, can't burn a cd in iTunes and does not show up in finder

ive tried different cd brands and still nothing.. but the interesting thing is i can burn dvd's in itunes but still doesnt show in finder.

I'm having a similar issue, I choose to burn a playlist in iTunes, insert a disc and either get a message saying that I need to try another brand of cd, or the burn process starts then finishes immediately.
Ive tried several major name brands of cd-r.
Sometimes the disc is not even recognised. The drives spins up slowly then stops 3 times, then spits out the disc.
This happened on a previous version of OSX but had been working great since snow leopard. (now on Lion)
Any help greatly appreciated.

There's newer firmware available from Samsung for that drive. (At least Rev SB01.)
This is a custom/home-built PC? If so, head directly to Samsung's support pages and download the newer firmware. Can you burn without the 2131 with the newer firmware in place?

Mine is really close to your set up. Difference my desktop has two drive, dvd-rom and my burn drive. My laptop only has single drive. Here is my take on things.
My desktop computer burns from iTunes perfect in version 4.7.0.42 and 5.0.1.4. When I go to 6.x I can't do anything. Go to oldapps.com if you want an older version.
I CAN BURN on my laptop with new version. It is a toshiba sat M45-S331 with a matshita dvd-ram drive.
My PC is a dell with a teac dvd+rw dv-w58e, rev D.0n
Did find something sad and while I don't know much about computer programming here is my take. I think it has nothing to do with the drive, my drive works perfect and as evidence being able to burn in older generation iTunes.
I think in the new version, at least as far as I can tell, my bus address in my laptop for my cd drive is [0,0] but on my desktop the bus address is [1,0] for my burn drive.
I think some programmer at Apple took out ability to recognize two seperate bus addresses or to recognize address [1,0]
Opinions? I'm going to research how to change bus address on my drives and if can figure out will get back here. Or if someone else can, please replay to me by e-mail. You can send it to the following removing upper case letters:

Can't burn CD after downloading iTunes 7.2

I just installed iTunes 7.2. Now I can't burn a CD.
When I insert a blank CD, iTunes opens, but the blank CD does not appear on the desktop and there is no burn button that says burn CD. The "burn disk" under File is in gray (inaccesible).
The help file is completely blank.
If I boot up the computer with a blank disk in the tray, I get a message that "the disk you inserted is not readable by this computer." However, the CD is the same kind I have always used so I don't know why it does this.
If I insert a CD that has been recorded on, everything works fine. Itunes opens, and the button for import CD appears.

I can not burn a cd in itunes. It tells me the drivers for importing and burning cd and dvds are missing. It tells me to reinstall itunes. I have done this several times and it does not help.

I'd start with the following document, with one modification. At step 12 after typing GEARAspiWDM press the Enter/Return key once prior to clicking OK. (Pressing Return adds a carriage return in the field and is important.)

I also tried deleting my CD burning playlist folder in iTunes and creating a new one. Today I tried a "Burn Disk" folder and that didn't work either (no error reports). I looked in the iTunes help folder and I couldn't find "Run Diagnostics". Any help would be greatly appreciated. This happened just after my 3-year Warranty ran out.

Could you post your diagnostics for us please?
In iTunes, go "Help > Run Diagnostics". Uncheck the boxes other than DVD/CD tests, as per the following screenshot:
... and click "Next".
When you get through to the final screen:
... click the "Copy to Clipboard" button and paste the diagnostics into a reply here.
