Can you play DVD movies on the drive? I ask because it is not uncommon for one feature on multifunction drives (like a CD-DVD drive) to stop functioning. There are actually multiple lasers in there for the separate functions. In other words the CD part can work fine but the DVD part go bad.
Is this an external DVD burner or the one built into the laptop?

Can I burn photos onto a DVD/CD for non-Mac users?

You can burn a plain CD/DVD by just dragging the photos there; but, that may or may not be playable by everyone. To be sure that the result would be playable in any computer or CD/DVD player, it would be better to use either one of the apps already on your system - such as iPhoto. I don't use that myself - I use other third party software - but take a look at iPhoto help. And, you could make it more interesting by creating a slideshow - also in iPhoto, or iMovie. To give it the final cool touch, bring it into iDVD to give it a polished look if you'd like. You can burn it then from any of the above.
If you happen to have Toast (an excellent burning app), you could use that as well (that is my preferred way to work). In Toast, you have multiple choices: burn a data CD/DVD for Mac only, for Mac & PC, etc, burn a picture CD, video DVD, etc, etc.

  • Can i recover photo files lost when i wiped out my hard-drive and  reinstalled mac os x?

Can i recover photo files lost when i wiped out my hard-drive and  reinstalled mac os x?  I know that when a computer is wiped cleaned that the info is still on the hard drive, how do I access it?  Can I pay someone to access it?  Long story short, everything was saved to my external hard drive except my photos, by mistake of course.

You have to stop using the drive immediately.  Completely stop.  Do not boot the computer from the drive.
File recovery software: Try using an application such as Data Rescue 3 - http://www.prosofteng.com/products/data_rescue.php or FileSalvage - http://subrosasoft.com, or one of the ones listed in the (old) link below. Some have free trial versions that let you see if the software will help before you decide to buy. You will also need a second hard drive equal to or larger in size than your first drive as a destination drive for recovered files.
    http://data-recovery-software-review.toptenreviews.com/mac-recovery-software
It is critical that you do not use the computer or even turn it on until you have rescued your files. Files only have the directory reference to them removed when you empty the trash or otherwise delete them from a computer (unless you use secure erase, in which case they are gone forever or can only be potentially be recovered by very expensive means) and are still present on the computer. However, their space is marked as available to any other file creation done on the computer (even done by you booting the computer) and there is risk that your files will be overwritten by the computer.
Even if the above works, do not expect the results to be pretty or even 100% successful.  Files will often lose their names and you will have to re-name them one by one.

  • Can't burn photo's to dvd

    On my MBP. iLife 11.
I am trying to burn photos to dvd and getting the error message " the disc can't be burned because the device failed to calibrate the laser power level for this media."
    Anyone know what this means?

    Joe,
Thank you for the post and the link. I was having a heck of a time finding any posts related to my problem. I blew compressed air into the cd/dvd slot. Had to do it a couple of times, but then i was able to burn a couple dvd's. Had to blow air again and was able to burn one more dvd. Tried again, but still unable to burn the last dvd. I ran hardware test but it says everything is fine.
My new error messages is "the disc can't be burned because communication between the computer and the disc drive failed (error code 0x80020022)" ANY ideas on what them might mean?

  • Upgraded to Ilife 06 now can't burn photos to a DVD

When I try to burn a DVD in Iphoto I now get an error message. I have room on the DVD to burn it and it is a new DVD-R disk. This is the error message.
(The burn to the MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-825 DRIVE failed. The device failed to respond properly, unable to recover or retry.)
    Has anyone had this problem?????
    Thanks,

I had the same problem attempting to burn 4.4GB (3800) of photographs onto a DVD using 10.4.5, iPhoto 6 and a PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-106D.
    Same error.
I had the same error with an external LaCie D2 burner as well.
However when I tried burning 800MB of photos it worked fine.
I then tried 3.8GB (3100) of photos and it worked fine.
How many photos (number and size) were you trying to burn.
What happens if you try and burn under 4GB of photos to a DVD?

  • How can I burn photos from an Aperture folder onto a cd?

I have searched for steps on how to burn photos onto a cd from a file in Aperture and I can't find any help. I take my photos in RAW and I upload them directly to Aperture from my camera. After making adjustments to some photos for a family member I wanted to burn the photos onto a cd but I can't find info on how to do this. I did find info on the internet on how to burn a cd from iphoto, but my photos are not in iphoto. I don't mind transferring my photos to iphoto, but I don't know how to do this. It can't be this hard to burn photos onto a cd. Can someone please help me. Thanks!

From within Aperture Export the images to a folder on the hard drive, then Finder-copy the folder to the CD/DVD, then burn the CD/DVD.

  • I can't burn photo files to disc on my Mac. Unexpected error code 0x8002006E

Why can't I burn photo files to disc on my Mac. It shows "unexpected error code 0x8002006E
    The iphoto version is '09 (8.1.2 424)

The two usual causes of this messages is poor media and too high a burn speed.  Try using a different brand of disk. Verbatim is the most recommended brand and a slower burn speed, around 4X.

  • How can i Transfer Photos from iPad to an external hdd or USB drive?

    Hey everyone,
Do you Know how to Transfer Files and especially Photos from the iPad to an external hdd or USB drive? I ll Be travelling for a Long Time and Wont take my MacBook with me, only the iPad, the Camera and an external hdd to Save Photos and Videos from the Camera. Thanks.
    Best Wishes,
    Nick

You can't - external drives and flash drives can't be connected to the iPad for copying photos (or anything else) off the iPad. You can use some photo upload sites to store them on web accounts or cloud services, but for a large number of photographs you'll be better off with a laptop and external drives for backup.

  • Can't burn photos to DVD - iPhoto 5.04

    Greetings,
I asked this long ago, but has anyone succesfully figured out how to burn discs with iPhoto 5.04?
I've seen many discussions on subject, but has it ever been resolved? prior versions seemed to work fine, all I ever get now is the "Finishing Burn" dialog.
    Does iPhoto 6 resolve this?
    Any help would be appreciated!

  • Can't Burn Photo Titles

Under the information for each photo, I put a photo name. However, when I burn the photos to disk, the captions don't show up. The photos only have numbers not the names I gave them. I then clicked on "View" and then "Titles" so I see the photo captions right under each photo, but still when I tried to burn a disk again, the captions are missing. I'm a travel writer, and I would like my editor to understand what each photo is about when the photo pops up on the disk. Any ideas, or is it not possible with iphoto?

Select the pics in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. In the resulting window set the
    Kind: to Jpeg and
Check the box at 'Include Titles and Keywords'
Then complete the export to a folder on your desktop. iPhoto will export the files with the Title as filename. Then burn that folder with the Finder.

  • Burning iDVD to DVD disc with i Book G4 combo drive and external DVD drive

7/6/2006. After much recent experimentation with iLife, iMovie and iDVD, I found how to use themes and set up movies in my iBook G4 purchased two years ago near Chicago (updated to OS 10.3.9). To burn an iDVD file to a DVD disc on a "combo drive" (that is, it has no DVD writer drive) iBook or other comparable Mac, go to File on the top horizontal tool bar and down there to "burn to DiscImage." Depending on the size of the file, it will take about four hours for every hour of movie file to encode it. I just set it up that night, went to bed and woke up the next morning with it finished. Once encoded, it doesn't need to be encoded again and can be used in the future. But Toast 7 Titanium will not burn it to an external DVD writer as "video." but it will burn the video file as "data." And pretty fast. The 'data' file still remains a video file and will do everything the video file does, only now from an external round DVD disc, too. I discovered this by accident, although Matt (tech support) reminded me about DiscImage. Later, David (also in tech support) told me to download newer versions of iDVD and iMovie, but that did not work, nor had he ever tried it. Remember for a combo drive and using iDVD, and also iMovie, under File burn to DiscImage and save on an external disc as "data." My external DVD write is by LaCie. Best wishes. Like altero said, you're not using Toast properly... Follow these directions:
Suggest you create a disc image from iDVD and then burn the DVD. In iDVD: File/Save as Disc Image...
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=164927
This will isolate any encoding/burning issues you may encounter. Once the disc image is created, double-click the .img and burn the virtual disc that should appear on your desktop, using Toast to burn the DVD. Disk Utility to burn the .img file. Usually, you can select a burning speed in Disk Utility.
There are variations to this process based on which OS X you are using...
Open Disk Utility (in Utilities folder in Applications folder), click on the virtual disc (maybe the .img) in the left-hand window. Click the Burn icon. A new window should drop down and your SuperDrive tray will open after clicking the Burn icon. Insert a recordable DVD. (Verbatim DVD-R preferred by me.) Click the Close button. Wait. Select a burn speed. If you hold your mouse cursor over the pop-up it says: "Select a slower speed to work around burn failures," so select 4x or slower for best results. Then click the Burn button.
-->If the virtual disk selection won't allow you to click the Burn icon, use the .img file instead. This may have changed in 10.3.9 and did change in Tiger.
Also, you can use DVD Player to play the virtual disk to check your iDVD project before burning to DVD. Launch DVD Player. File/Open VIDEO_TS (Open DVD Media... in Player 4.6). Find the VIDEO_TS folder and open that. (The audio folder is for DVD-Audio disks.)

  • Since loading Lion I can no longer burn photos form iPhoto on a dvd for archive purposes

Since loading Lion on my MacBook Pro, I can no longer burn photos form iphoto for archarving purposes.  I used to load the dvd and it would showup on the screen then drag highlighted photos onto the dvd.  Now, dvd only shows up sometimes and when it does, it tells me the new disk is full.  How can such an easy task become obsolete with this update.   I have also tried using idvd for archiving purposes but this process will only allow viewing.  I want to be able to reload photos back onto the computer at a later date.
