Can't connect to other Wifi networks although it works at home

My curve is configured to 'wifi preferred' and shows UMA signal when in my home - using BT Home Hub. Recently I tried to connect to a hotel wifi and my mum's Orange Livebox. Both are now stored on my BB as available connections but Active WiFi connection is showing 'none'. I can't work out how to get it using the Wifi instead of my data plan.
I've read some threads recommending 'hotspot' setting but not sure if this will restrict me to WiFi only? Of course, I would like it to automatically switch back to my BT hub once home. Have done battery pull but no different.
Am at my mum's at the moment if anyone can help please!

Some hotspots require you to log in before you can actually access the internet. Once you do a scan, and connect to the wifi network then you need to open the browser, and go to the Bookmark screen and click on "wifi hotspot login."
Not every wifi network is compatible with every device so some hotspots just may not work.

Can't Connect to any WiFi network

I just got my iPhone yesterday and I'm already having a serious problem,I can't connect to any WiFi networks.
I can see the networks around me and I can select networks that I've setup and I know are open or I know the security passwords, I can even enter the network passwords for the ones that require them and it accepts them without complaint. When I select a network I get a little check mark next to that network which I assumes means it should be connected to that network. However, the iPhone never actually connects to them, i.e. no IP address, no router no nothing in the network settings screen for each network, and always appears to the using the Edge wireless network when accessing the internet.
I've tried DHCP and static IP but neither works.
I updated the phones software to 1.1.4, has anybody reported problems like this with this or any version of the software.
Any help would be much appriciated.
If I can't get this resolved today I'm returning to the AT&T store tonight for a new one.

I have personally used an iPhone with routers from D-Link, Netgear, Linksys, Apple and Belkin.
Some routers, regardless of manufacturer need to have their firmware updated. Generally speaking if you look at the release notes, the same updates that resolve issues with DHCP for game systems and PDAs, also resolves them for the iPhone.
In addition hardware or MAC address filtering can cause issues where you connect to the network and not get DHCP.

TS1398 Update iPhone 4s to 6.1.3 (10B329) now I can't connect to any wifi networks at home or at work and all car Bluetooth systems will not connect either. Help! Extremely annoyed at apple for putting out software that causes such mayhem.

My iPhone 4s has been update as I said in subject bar.. Now can't connect to any of my cars Bluetooth systems. Also even more frustratingly can't connect to any wifi networks at home or work!!
How can apple put out such an update that causes so much grief and inconvenience to hundreds of people. Not to mention risking lives with Bluetooth kits not working...outraged!!!!!!

First, grow up. Just because YOUR phone isn't working, doesn't mean Apple put out bad software. I've not had any difficulty, nor has anyone else I know. And just how is Apple risking lives with Bluetooth kits not working? It's YOUR decision to talk on the phone or text and drive. Not Apple's.
We're users here, volunteering our time to help others. Posts like yours, which are whiny and ranting, simply means we're likely to ignore you and not provide you with any help. Not to mention, it makes you look absolutely foolish.
Further making you look foolish is the fact that you haven't even asked a technical support question, nor have you provided anyone here with any troubleshooting steps you might have taken, including those recommended in the user guide.

Can't connect to a wifi network with a wep keyid 2

Hi,
how do you connect to a wifi network with wep but the keyid is 2, i can't find an option.
i put the password, in asci and in hexa, and the answer "can't connect to the network" a xp near got connected after changing the key id in configs :((
did i miss something?

I am relatively new to Mac's, as at 40 having had IBM/Windows compatibles since I was 14 (8086 woot!), I am still learning.
However, I believe the answer is that you must use Key 1. I don't believe OSX offers the chance to use any others. However, in case I am wrong, try putting a $ before the WEP passphrase, but again, I think it only uses Key 1.

How can i connect to a wifi network with no internet connection?

I used to be able to connect my Z10 to a wifi network even when the network had no Internet connectivity when i got my phone in Feb. 2013 (10.0) However ever since the 10.1 update this has stopped working. I cannot connect to my wifi network when there is no Internet connection. I cannot play videos / music from my phone to my tv/music system or connect to my laptop. However my laptop and tv communicate just fine through the same network.
Can anyone recommend anything for this?

Your saved wifi networks should connect automatically whether internet is available or not, you may receive a notification "there appears to be no internet connection".
Update to 10.2, if not available from your carrier then use Sachesi (see other threads).

When I try to connect to my wifi network I receive message "Unable to join network "Netgear" this starated as of 8/16 before thsn I never had this problem
connecting to this network previously .I have attempted after manually entry of DNS still nothing a;so did the network reset, and full reset of settings and still

Can't connect to my wifi network when external monitor is connected

The computer is a very new Retina Macbook Pro. The monitor is an older Alienware/Benq 20" (3:4) LCD. I'm using a DVI to mini-displayport adaptor and plugging into the thunderbolt ports on the Macbook Pro. Router is a Belkin F5D8233 Wireless N router. As soon as I connect the monitor my connection to my wifi network times out and refuses to let me connect (every attempt just results in a "connection timed out" error). However, I was surprised to find that I could connect to my neighbor's network without any issue. Anybody have any idea what the issue could be?

HT1695 Did iOS 6.0.2 update, but still can't connect to certain WiFi networks. FIX THIS, APPLE!

Like the subject line says, I installed the 6.0.2. update with my fingers crossed, but my iPhone 5 still doesn't connect to certain networks. Of course, Apple in their "Troubleshooter" sends me to an article telling me how to connect to a WiFi network, and to reset Network settings (which I've done numerous times).
This happens in a local coffee shop, and one odd thing is that the owner thinks he has his router set to require a password, but none of my devices show it to be a secured network (though it was and did require a password when I initially joined the network).
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Third-Party apps can't connect to public wifi networks.

When I connect my iPhone to my university's Wi-Fi connection, Apple Apps (Safari, Mail, iTunes, App Store...) all function normally. But when it comes to third-party apps I can't get them to connect to the internet. So is there a workaround to this? Maybe get iPhone to treat apps as an "Apple App" so the proxy server gives it access to the connection (The server requires a username and password verification to connect). This happens with other public wi-fi connections. I dunno if I'm giving all the necessary info. so if anything is unclear, I can explain further...

You don't give any examples of the apps that are not working.
Some public WiFi networks will only have certain network ports open, like those for web and mail. If an app uses an unusual network port then it may not work on the public WiFi network.

TS1398 My ipad will not connect to other wifi networks. It has connected to my main home network but will not connect to the booster network in my home (it has previously!) It will also not connect to other networks outside my home.

I just got new router and had to reset my network settings on IPad. Since then, my ipad will connect onto the main home network but will not attach to my extension booster (netgear) which is linked to the home network. It will also not attach to networks outside my home that it has previously worked with. i have reset the settings again, powered off and on again, updated to the latest IOS update, but nothing is working. Please help, as I can only use wifi in a few rooms in my house and i do not have 3G on my my ipad.

Did you try forgetting the network and starting all over again?
Settings>WiFi>Network Name>Tap the blue arrow>Forget this Network. Restart your iPad and then try joining again.
Try rebooting your router. Even though everything else may be connecting to your Network, it might help with the iPad. Unplug the router for about 30 seconds and then plug it in again.
Reset Network settings on the iPad?
Settings>>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings. You will have to start all over again, Tap WiFi in the settings, find your network and enter the password.

I just updated to IOS 8.2 and now I can't connect to any WIFI network at home or elsewhere. I get a message that says "can't scan for WIFI" and it just keeps searching. How do I fix this?

If you can't connect to home wi fi, or any wi fi, go into the RESET area of your SETTINGS and choose RESET NETWORK CONNECTIONS. Turn the phone off and back on and you should be okay. It may take more than one try. Good luck.

Can't connect to office wifi network

I've been given a new MacBook Pro at work and we're struggling with getting it connected to the office wifi.
Model is a MacBookPro 8,3
Every time I go into System Preferences > Network and create an Airport connection with WPA2 Enterprise as security, the connection remains in yellow dot status with Self-assigned IP listed below AirPort in the left column.
I also see 802.1X: WPA: SECURE (the network SSID) and a Connect button. When I hit connect, the Airport status in the left is still yellow and says "On".
However, the Network Name now is grayed out with "No network selected".
If I choose the network from the drop down, I'm asked for the user name and password with 802.1X set to Automatic. Once this happens, the lin with
802.1X: WPA: SECURE shows a button of "Connect", so that gets disconnected, and Self-Assigned IP comes up in the Airport status on the left.
Seems like an endless loop of failing to connect.

I don't know about all that techie stuff--maybe that is the issue. But I have had no problem connecting to our office wifi network. It showed up in the airport drop down menu & I selected it & entered the password.
I was also told at the Apple store that having my computer password protected would protect it from outsiders being able to get into it--that is with at least an 8 digit password with alpha numeric & at least 1 capital.
So don't know about the WPA stuff, but I was told that this is reasonably secure. So someone else could address whether that is needed. I read about that in connection with a home wifi set up but don't know about otherwise.

10/1/13 - Last week updrade my software on my Imac and set up ICloud - could be unrelated to my problem.
1. My iMac and Apple are connect to my Belkin wifi system okay.
2. My two iphones and Ipad cant access my wifi - 'Unable to join network message'
I have search the discussion forums and tried most solutions - still can't get them to join.

I have an Orange broadband Inventel Livebox.
I take it when the iPhone asks for the password, I should be typing in the WEP key?
I tried this, and pushed the 'mating' button on the livebox but it still wont connect.
Am I missing something?

Sorta similar problem...I'm using Linksys. I have up to 4 laptops all connecting properly through the wireless network (no security key...I know, I know....). When we select the wireless network on the iPhone, we get an IP address and it looks like it connects fine. But we cannot get any safari to open up web sites consistently. Sometimes, some website open fine...particularly the apple.com site (go figure!!). But sites such as google.com or yahoo.com won't download. We'll get the message...Safari cannot contact server (may be a different message...i don't have my iPhone with me now). But the point is, there are times I can open a page when connected to my wireless and i will immediately try to open another page from another well known web site and it won't work. If I switch back the The Edge, it works fine. And btw, anytime I experience this problem on my iPhone, I check one of the laptops and they're ALWAYS able to connect. I don't think it's my router since all the laptops work. It just seems that the iPhone doesn't like to talk to my network for some reason. Is there any known issues with Linksys and the iPhone? I know Linksys (cisco) has their own iPhone...I wonder if there's something weired going on there.
