Can't convert PS Album 2 catalog to PSE 8 catalog

I'm trying to convert a Photoshop Album 2 catalog of about 1,200 items to a Photshop Elements 8 catalog, but in the PSE 8 conversion process the operation stops with the message "The conversion operation failed. Try repairing the catalog with the software that created it and retry the conversion. I used PS Album 2 to clean up the catalog doing a file, catalog, recover operation, then did a reconnect all operation, followed by a file, catalog, recover operation. I got a "recovery successful message" and there are "no non-connected files". Still the PSE 8 conversion hangs mid-way in the process. Can anyone give me a helpful clue on how to proceed? Thanks.

I have an issue where I can't convert certain albums or only a few albums on some albums from Apple Lossless to anything else. It keeps coming back "file format not valid". However, the file itself plays fine. I tried copying the files, moving the files, reimporting the files, converting to different formats, nothing seems to work. Should have kept the CDs, I suppose, but gave them away when I moved. Is there a program that can look at these files and make sure they're formatted properly? Happens on the PC and the Mac. Saw one thread where possibly you can erase a particular preference file and that might work, but not sure which file.

You are indeed using OSX 10.4.9 (and any reason not to update to 10.4.11)? Which version of iTunes?
If the files have worked before, they should still work. You could run Disk Utility and verify your hard drive in case you have file corruption.
Even though iTunes should work, you could use a third party utility such as Max or XLD to transcode.
You're positive these are Apple Lossless?
Should have kept the CDs, I suppose, but gave them away when I moved.

I suppose there is a way to 'write metadata to files' in PSE3. This writes all your tags, captions and ratings from your catalog to the metadata header of each of your media files. Those are recognized and recovered if you 'get photos and videos...' from files or folders in ulterior versions of Elements.

3pg is an odd format... That or I just never seen it before. :P
iTunes just ***** at converting videos. So far all videos I tried converting with iTunes have resulted in the same error you got.
You're better-off using 3rd party apps, and then copying to iTunes, and then copying to the iPod.
Unfortunately I don't know of any conversion programs for Windows.

When converting with handbrake, make sure to use the iPod preset for the out-put video.

Convert Photoshop Album to PSE8

I have been using Photoshop Album Starter Edition 3.2 to organise my photos and recently bought PSE8. To transfer all my photos into PSE8 Organiser I think I should use the Convert option. (File > Catalog > Convert)
When I do and select Album as the place to convert from it displays the message: "The conversion operation failed. Try repairing the catalog with the software that created it and retry conversion". Album doesn't have a repair option, only a "Reconnect Missing Files", which says "No files to reconnect".
Can anyone tell me how to get my photos (2k+) into my PSE8 catalog with associated tags etc? I am in UK and have a very slow broadband service so I dont think sharing using Photoshop.com is possible / viable.
Any / all suggestions gratefully received.

You can't merge catalogs (even PSE13 ones) in any PSE version (only LR can do that). So, converting catalogs is not the solution to your problem.
Since you have PSE5 working on your computer and your images also, the solution is to 'write metadata to files in PSE5) and to re-import the images in the PSE13 catalog. That won't duplicate your image files and you'll lose albums/collections, stacks and version sets, but you'll recover tags, captions and ratings.
To be able to re-import the files indexed in PSE5, you may have to move them to a new master folder.
I am not sure what your problem with the conversion may be. It's quite possible that the resulting catalog.pse13db is ok and that the issue lies in the ability to open it in the PSE13 organizer.
As stated by dj_page, double clicking on that file should open the organizer with the new catalog. You could test that by creating a dummy catalog in PSE13 and importing a small batch of photos. Locate the path of the catalog with the menu Help/system info. Copy the catalog.pse13db in another folder and the 'double click' way to open the organizer with that moved catalog database.

In order to move them to the right album I would like to have multiple albums open at the same time (side by side) so that I can make sure not to duplicate photos or move them to the wrong spot.
I cant see how to do this, it seems that I can need to open one album and check phots and then close to look within and other and rely on memory. There must be a more efficient and accurate way to do this?

All of the events in iPhoto were converted to albums and are located in the Folder titled iPhoto Event in the sidebar of Photos.
You can't open multiple albums at the same time. You can create a smart album that will do essentially the same thing with the following criteria:
Album is "A"
Album is "B".
The smart album will display all of the photos in those two albums.

I have made a large promo dvd for an upcoming seminar and the national organization would like to put it on its website.
I broke it down into chapters so that it is not one long cumbersome piece, and visitors can watch just the parts they need.
On our local website, I was able to share to media and then use iweb to upload them in an album.
However, the national webmaster uses a different web program so I need to create the chapters as self-contained movies for her to download first from our downlload site. She says that the .mov files hang up when she's downloading and wants them as mp4.
How can I convert them?

hello .... sorry it's taken me so long to return here ....
To separate it into chapters, I brought it into Final Cut pro, and marked the In and Out for one chapter, then exported just that selection.... as an mpeg4 (Quicktime conversion) . As one chapter was finished and exported (Self-contained movie) i moved the In and Out points to the next chapter, and continued along this way.
If you don't have Final Cut, then you should be able to do the same in iMovie: import the whole movie, then select the portion of the movie that belongs in one chapter, drag it to the timeline, edit as necessary (fades, etc) then export (Share) that chapter. Repeat for each portion of the movie you want to isolate. When you export/share, you can choose the option of size that you want it to be.

Im trying to get my pics from elements to shutterfly. I have edited the pics already and they are in an album. When I try to select the pics to move to shutterfly, I can't pick an album only a folder. How do I go around this or can an album be changed to a folder...help!

A word of caution: Try to use the the second method above from Organizer only, not from Windows xplorer as otherwise you would see files showing missing in your catalog.

Can I convert my files that are F00...F49 to look like the rest of my file (had a computer crash,,,use ipod to get my music back in itunes)
Some file are song titles/albums ect others are F00..F49
they appear this way in my backup files

F00..F49 are the names of the folders of media content on the iPod. Inside will be a bunch of files with four letter names. As long as they're not .wav files it should be possible to recover them and reconstruct the core of the library from the embedded tags.

You don't. You will need to re-import.

That is a matter of personal preference. You can have higher quality sound (but larger file size) or smaller file size ( but lower quality sound). It's up to you.
