Can't create keychain

I just upgraded to Tiger; did a clean install. Now there is no login keychain and I can't create one. When I go to New Keychain in Keychain access, it says "An error occurred while creating a new keychain." When I try Keychain First Aid, it terminates with a "Login keychain not found" error. Restarting makes no difference. Every time I do something that would access the keychain I'm told that it can't be accessed and do I want to create a new one? Whether I say yes or no, nothing changes. When I try to import the keychain with my name on it from my user library in the backup of my old system (Panther) it is greyed out and I can't import it. (This is true for the backup and also for the imported version that the system installer made when it moved things from my former system.) The only keychains I can find are called System.keychain, and there's one of those in both the system library and my user library.
How can I get a keychain? Or alternatively, can I reinstall the keychain part of the system without reinstalling the whole system?

Can't create Local Network Users in Yosemite

I can't create Local Network Users (or change passwords)
Logged on to /LDAPv3/127.0.0.1 as directory administrator
When I try to create a new user (press the [+], fill in the form), it brings up the message:
existing connection is not authenticated or secure: password change denied
I suspect this is emblematic of other issues. I can authenticate for Mail and SMB, but not for AFP or Xcode

So I had this problem last night as well when I upgraded my 10.9.5 OD master to 10.10.
Two obvious problems after that upgrade:
1) Could not add a new Local Network User
2) Existing users could not connect via AFP (but could via SMB)
Through a series of trial and error (and with two Apple Support people...), we found that the following actions seemed to help fix some (but not all) of the problems.:
Problem #2 seemed to initially be fixed by archiving the OD Master, destroying the OD Master and then reimporting from the archive. I archived from the upgraded 10.10, but should probably have tried restoring my 10.9.5 archive (which may end up being why I still have some problems...)
Problem #1 seemed to be solved when I used WorkGroup Manager to reset the password on the Directory Administrator account I use (I also blew out all references to that account from the Keychain, so everything reprompted me to add that password
However, we think the root cause of this might have been that in /var/db/openldap/migration, the following "dot" files were still present after the upgrade

Those 4 .dot files were *not* present in that directory on the two other test OD Master servers that I upgraded without issue.
So we removed them and after having done all the above as well -- I can now add users to the server.   The OD engineer I talked to thought that the presence of those .dot files may have been triggering something to rerun every time PasswordService launched.
When all was said and done, I was then able to "kinit <mydiradminaccount>" correctly and get a "klist" without issue.
ALL THAT SAID: As of this morning, *some* (most? I don't know yet) of my existing OD user accounts are able to successfully log into the server.   A couple of them (so far) are reporting that their account is "disabled" (which is different from the "shaking"/can't-log-in behavior) -- but they can still log in via SMB -- so I think there was still a problem migrating OD accounts in the upgrade process.
AND -- I noticed that -- in Server 4.0 -- "change password" is greyed out, so I have to use WorkGroup Manager to change server account passwords.

OK, let's try this...
Create a new User go to System Preferences > Users & Groups > "+" (make it an admin acct) and test the apps in this new account, if they work the problem is isolated to your User and not systemwide.
If the issue is limited to your user account try starting up in Safe Mode (It will take more time to startup because it runs a directory check.)
If your Keychain functions correctly that way, go to Keychain menu and "Rebuild Keychain. If not go to System Preferences >> Accounts >> Login Items and remove them. Boot normally and test. If not go to/Users/yourname/Library/Contextual Menu Items and move whatever is there to the desktop. Then do the same with /Library/Contextual Menu Items. Lastly, try moving/Users/yourname/Library/Fonts to your desktop.
Log out/in or restart, if that sorts it start putting items back one at a time until you find the culprit.
* Again, Go to your Finder "Go" menu hold the option key to choose "Library"

Can't create folder when saving docs; can create on desktop but can't move

This is boggling. When I choose "save" or "save as" for the first time in Word or Excel, and then "create new folder," it asks me to name the folder, and then tells me it can't create it. The error simply says "Could not create folder." So I created a new folder on the desktop, which worked fine, but when I tried to drag it into the folder I wanted it to live in, I got a pop-up that said "You cannot copy some of these items to the destination because their names are too long for the destination."
1) There is only one item - an empty folder.
2) The name of the folder is "blah" -- which is in no way too long.
What the heck is happening? This only started today.

How can i delete keychain data for all users on my Mac Server?

We have 2 Mac servers on our windows network and user passwords change every 30 days to keep up with security. How can i stop keychain asking for the users old passwords or get it to update with the change of password?

First you have to create a new folder or 2/3, om My Mac... Mail>Mailbox>New Mailbox...> Loacation>On My Mac.
Highlight the eMails & drag to the new box(es), if IMAP Mail will try downlodaing them again.
If POP & Remove fron Server when downloaded it won't.
Quit Mail after the move, log into gMail Webmail via a browser & delete what you wish.
PS. Even though you delete everything in gMail, google keeps copies for themselves & the NSA, just you cannot see them.

I moved into iCloud from the very beginning and started with one iCloud account for me and my family, making use of email aliases for family members. Now the number of personal iDevices grows and I want to create a new and separate iCloud Account for my son. The pity is, that I reserved his full name already as alias address on my initial iCloud account. If I now delete this alias, can I create a new account with the former alias as new primary email address?
Or is there at least any transfer procedure supported for aliases between different accounts?

Couldn't agree more... the folks who are getting penalized for this are the early adopters of .Mac/iCloud dating from the days when the only way to implement a "family" account was to use aliases. Now all my kids' / my wife's name aliases sit in my account, unable to move. I guess the good news is that if I delete them nobody else will get them, but this seems a pretty poor consolation.
Would it really be so difficult to implement a "move this alias to another iCloud account" option that requires the "sender" and "receiver" to exchange some sort of code to implement the transation in order to prevent fraud?

You don't need to create two separate libraries.
If you want to sync different content onto each device, select the device in iTunes, select the tabs across the top and sync what you want.
To make it easier, create different playlists for each device and sync only those playlists.

In order to change your Apple ID or password for your iCloud account on your iOS device, you need to delete the account from your iOS device first, then add it back using your updated details. (Settings > iCloud, scroll down and hit "Delete Account")

It got stored in my iTunes a a song rather than a ring tone. How do I make it a ring tone vs. a song? I tried dragging it t the Ring Tone category at the bottom of the ITunes list, but it won't alloow me to move it?

There's also an easy to use Applescript over at Doug's Applescripts for iTunes. It automates the whole thing. All you do is set the start and stop time on a file in iTuens and run the script. It will do everything else.

I converted to iCloud from Mobile Me in October before I created email addresses for my kids. Can I create accounts for them in iCloud?

Just go to http://appleid.apple.com and create a new Apple ID for each kid - note that you will need a different associated email address for each ID, and different from your own, but you can use free addresses such as Yahoo.
Then start a new iCloud account for each using the IDs. You will need to have a separate user account on your Mac for each kid (you should be doing this anyway, and they should be non-admin accounts) and then you can enter the ID in System Preferences>iCloud and create a new @me.com address in each case.
Alternatively you could create up to three email aliases on your own account - these are addresses, not accounts, and deliver into your main inbox alonside your mail, so everyone will be able to see everyone else's mail, which may well not be what you want.
