Can't delete photos using Image Capture

I just upgraded from an iPhone4 to 5s....all of a sudden I can't delete photos using Image Capture like I used to.  The "delete" menu item is grayed out.  The "delete after import" checkbox in the lower right is available, but I don't need to download all of these photos videos.  I poked around in the iPhone settings but didn't see anything which seems to control this.

Hey guys, I had the same problem on iOS 8.0.2, I couldn't delete any pictures from my Mac neither in Image Capture nor in iPhoto. I've just figured out how to resolve this. You have to disable iCloud Photo Library (Beta) under Settings > Photos & Camera. Since it seems to be an iOS 8 related issue, I'm not sure if I am referring to the same problem as in the original post but I thought I'll let you know anyway.

  • Can't import photos using image capture or iphoto

When I plug in the iphone to my mac, I cannot get the photos off the phone. I did it once before, while leaving the original photos on the phone, but now I photo says there was an error importing 38 items, which happen to be the 38 photos I've taken since my initial import. Image capture "imports" them onto my desktop, but the files are unreadable?
Is this something with the phone or the computer, or simply a software issue.
    Please help....
    Gavin

i deleted HD cache and user cache as well as image capture prefs and IC performed better right away but then had same issue where iphone stops importing photos. pretty crappy...it seems image capture has never worked right (not in 10.3, not in 10.4, and still not in 10.5, don't remember if 10.2 or 10.1 had image capture) atleast before it would import the photos; progress indicator would get stuck but upon opening user picture folder, photos imported fine. We might be SOL, thanks Steve's Dev Team!

  • HT4505 can you scan 4x6 photos using Image Capture that will actually scan as a 4x6 photo. I have to crop the photo once it is scanned

Can you scan multiple 4x6 photos using image Capture that will actually scan as a 4x6 photo? I seem to have to crop each photo once it is scanned.

    How long is a string?
The answer depends on a large number of variables
Cropping removes the area cropped off so the pixel size of a cropped photos is smaller than an upcropped one
With iPhoto you can always revert ot the original so if the new quality is not enough for your use you can go back to the uncropped original
    size - many meanings
DPI - simple - Dots Per Inch - the number of dots (pixels) in a dimension divided by the number of inches of the display(print) - very simple math
Pixels and dots are the same for this discussion
so if a photo is shot in a 3:2 ratio (6x4 is also a 3:2 ratio) then the photo is the shape of a 4x6 photo with no cropping - is a photo shot in a 4:3 ratio is cropped to a 4:6 ratio (which is also a 3:2 ratio) then some information is going to be removed - assuming that you set the cropping frame as large as possible in one direction and only crop two sides then you lose the minimum amount of information
Most iPhoto uses of photos are designed aroung 4:3 photos so in general I would only recommend cropping 4:3 photos if you want to print them in standard print sizes
iPhoto slide shows will work best with 4:3 photos so cropping to 4:6 would be a mistake

  • Downloading Photos using Image Capture

ive never used iphoto, always preferring image capture. image capture doesn't see the phone's connected anymore but it used to. and i think i used to see the phone mount on the desktop as a connected device but dont see that anymore, either (maybe it never did?)
the phone is recognized in itunes but i dont quite see how to download my phone photos there as it says 'sync' and i dont want to do that. i just want to download the images to my computer so i dont lose them should something happen to the phone. Any ideas? i would like to continue using image capture, if at all possible anymore.
Many thanks in advance for your assistance. -josh

I see my iPhone in "My Computer" connected as a camera, and it lets me only access the photos I took with it, saved from a message or when I do screenshots. I'm glad it's there, otherwise there would be no way of take your photos from your iPhone.
If you have photos in the Camera Roll but still don't see it in "My Computer" maybe you disconnected the iPhone too brutally last time. I know one time I accidently connecteddisconnectedconnected etc a few times very fast the usb cable and then the iPhone wouldn't be recognized on the PC either with iTunes or in the "My Computer". Which scared me lol. But then I tried connecting it to another usb port on the PC and it's working now. Try that. Other than that I can't really see how to fix it . Maybe a PC formating or a iPhone restore but I doubt you want to do that.

  • How can I keep my images from being deleted when using Image capture. Even when I do not check the box they still get deleted.

This happened after I updated my operating system.

Whats with the MBP lid? Dont close it ... if you're so concerned! Just go to System Preferences/Energy Saver and set it to how you like it.

  • Can't take pictures with Image Capture - Canon  Camera

I can't take pictures using Image Capture using either my Canon Power Shot A710IS or my husband's SD600. I can download pictures with both cameras, but if I switch to shooting mode, Image Capture says "No Image Capture Device Connected." I know it worked with my PowerShot A75, but my *&%$ son broke it.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I would call (800) 828-4040 Canon Tech Support. I have found them very helpful, and its easier than typing here

I'm trying to delete multiple pix in iPhoto that i stupidly made duplicates of without knowing, I've tried going into the applications folder and using image capture but i think I've missed a step , can anyone send the correct info / steps pls thanks

again image capture is not involved with deleting photos from iPhoto in any way ever
the paid version of iPhoto Library Manager is very good for finding duplicates as is Duplicate Annihilator
And I have no idea who told you this - or what it means - but re-read both of my opening statements
I was told I could delete multpiles thru image capture by transferring my iPhoto library etc

  • Why can I no longer import EDITED photo from my iPad to my Mac using Image Capture from Snapseed app?

Why can I no longer import EDITED photo from my iPad to my Mac using Image Capture? This is farcical and a real problem having to email them individually to myself and is totally inefficient time wise compared to previously using image capture! Why change this when it was working well and very quickly until the latest change. Now I have to move files from downloads into an appropriate folder, after emailing each individual edited image to myself, then I have to open in Photoshop and rename the file. This is ludicrous and takes forever to do!

Thank you! I suppected it would be in the settings somewhere. I' ve much to learn...get myself into trouble pushing buttons I don't really understand.

  • Can I use Image Capture to take a picture using a Canon EOS 10D?

Normally I use a card reader to download digital photos, but today I hooked my camera directly to my iMac. I then noticed the "Take Picture" button, so I tried to use it to take a picture with my Canon EOS 10D. Image Capture didn't refuse, it just showed the 'cogwheel' animated cursor and got stuck. What does this mean - is it that this particular camera won't work or that there is something wrong with the setup? I have other digital cameras, but I don't want to work all this out by experiment alone - how can I find out more about how this feature of IC works and what exactly is going on when I press "Take Picture"? There is absolutely no technical info in the Help files.

The Help on Image Capture has the following:
Many cameras let you take a picture using Image Capture when the camera is connected to your computer.
    To take a picture:
Connect your camera and open Image Capture.
    Click Download Some.
    Click Take Picture.
The camera snaps a picture, which then appears in the window.
If you don’t see the Take Picture icon, choose View > Customize Toolbar, and drag the Take Picture icon to the toolbar.
If the Take Picture icon is dimmed, your camera doesn’t support this feature.
As the option is available to you, your camera supports +Tethered Shooting+. If it’s not working check your camera’s manual to see do you need this enabled on your camera.

  • Using Image Capture to download photos from iPhone--Date Sort

    Hi,
I have over 2000 photos on my 3G iPhone and I use Image Capture on the Mac to pull them off.
Since I have so many photos going back a couple years, the file names have repeated, so if I sort by File Name, stuff from last year is mixed in with this year, etc.
Also, if I sort by date, Image Capture sorts by MONTH-DAY-YEAR, therefore my latest photos are NOT at the top/botttom of the list!
How can I change the date format in Image Capture so that I can sort by YEAR first?
    Thanks!

OK, here is my new strategy:
A new feature of Snow Leopard OSX 10.6 is that Image Capture (and iPhoto) will put a green check mark next to any photos already downloaded. Therefore, it makes it much much easier to figure out the new from the old.
In addition to that, I went into my iPhone using PhoneView and reset the images back to IMG_00001. This required me to get rid of my thousands of photos on the iPhone, but oh well.
So starting over seemed to be the best way to manage this mess.

  • IMac applications see my iPhone 5s but cannot display the photos.  Last week I was using Image Capture with no problem.

I have an iMac 10.8.4 and an iPhone 5s. I recently downloaded 110 photos and 10 very short videos using Image Capture v.6.2.  I plugged the phone into the iMac, all of the photos appeared in Image Capture, I selected all and sent them along to a folder on an external hd.
However, this week, attempting the same procedure, I get nothing.  Image Capture sees my phone but does not display any photos, just a big blank window.  Same response from iPhoto, Aperture, and Lightroom; they all recognize the phone but none of the photos appear.  Insight would be appreciated!  Thanks.

    Hello WellShoot,
Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing with importing photos from your Camera Roll using Image Capture.  You have taken some really good steps already to troubleshoot this issue.  The article below has a few additional troubleshooting steps you can take:

  • Can't delete photos from iPhone using iPhoto.

I connect my iphone to mac, wait until the photos are syncronized, press delete photos and after a short process nothing happenes. If I connect my iphone later it's written that all photos are syncronized, I press delete photos and again nothing happanes. How to solve this problem?

Use Image Capture (in the Applications Folder) to do this.
Never let your computer erase data without you first checking that the data is safe. Specifically never use iPhoto (or any other app) to delete the photos from your Camera Card. Disconnect the camera, check the transfer has gone correctly and then use your Camera to Reformat the Card. This has three advantages:
    1. You know your data is safe - because you've taken the time to check it.
    2. Reformatting the card is much, much faster - takes a couple of seconds
    3. Reformatting also refreshes the Directory Structure on the Card, helping prevent issues with the card and prolonging its life.

  • IMac 10.7.3 wont delete my pictures using image capture

Imac  wont delete picture using Image capture

Yes...I had the same problem; nothing to do with the card or my iPod Touch 4G.
    Below, a screenshot.
Delete after import is grayed out. Sometimes it is not even there!
If Image Capture had any Preferences perhaps that would help -- or if Aperature could delete
photos after import, but right now it is frustrating.
It's 'interesting,' that OS Lion is suspected.
I've been spending an hour or so every morning now on this. Today I discovered there is an Automator action for importing pictures from a folder and then deleting them.
So now if Image Capture would do it's thing...perhaps this could be a smooth workflow.
So, Why Does Delete After Import in Image Capture be grayed out? Or not even there? Even when importing to a folder?
Is it the Lion in the jungle? And/or some other reasons?

  • How do I find lost photos after Image Capture failed to import them to iPhoto?

im having this problem exactly .... http://hints.macworld.com/article.php?story=20101215095521610
i chose to delete after import, like a wise guy, thinking nothing was going to happen and now my photos are not in my iPhoto libary... ive gone through all my images and i cant find them...
i used image capture to put all my photos into iphoto from my iphone 4 before i bought my 4S and i didnt back anything up, thinking i was fine...
when i went to iphoto they werent there, so i tried to quit iphoto and, as i did, it said my library was updating about 300+ photos, so i was like 'oh all i needed to do was restart iphoto'... but it was still a no-go, they still werent there...
i restarted my computer, looked at other peoples answers, and i just cant find them in any folder or anywhere....... and i cant find the folder from the link i posted... very tired and fustrated. i need help please : (

    I don't think it can be done from within iPhoto but there's a way you can do it from outside. First download and launch QPict. Then do the following;
1 - open your iPhoto Library folder and type Command-F.
2 - in the search window create these two search criteria:
    a - Kind is Folder
    b - Name contains Original
3 - In the search results window click on the size column to separate the empty folders from those with files in them.
4 - select all of the folder that are not empty and drag into the open window of QPict.
That will open the original files in QPict so you can view them there and compare to those in iPhoto. Just remember do not move any of those folders out of the iPhoto Library folder. Just move them into the open window of QPict.
