Can't delete songs or music

Hi, I bought an iPod nano on Saturday and when I uploaded songs to it, I accidentally put some stuff I didn't want on it. When I tried deleting them, it didn't let me. So I replaced my iPod today at the shop I got it from. I have the same problem still. Please tell me what's wrong?!?! (P.S. it's definately not my computer cos I tried it on my friend's computer too) Thanks in advance!!

How you delete content from your iPod depends how you have it set to update:
If you are updating automatically then delete the files from the iTunes library and next time you connect they will automatically be deleted from your iPod. Highlight the file and press the delete key on your keyboard, or right click and choose either Clear or Delete, depending on which version of iTunes you are using.
If you are updating manually, connect your iPod and click on the icon when it shows in the iTunes 6 source list. In iTunes 7, click on the chevron to the left of the iPod icon in the Source list. This will display the various icons for the iPod itself, Music, Movies, TV Shows and Playlists. Click on Music and you'll see the traditional song view
Find the files on your iPod that you want to remove, highlight them and delete directly.
To select multiple items such as all the songs in an album, click on the first track in the list hold down the shift key and click on the last track to highlight the selection. Then press the delete key.
To summarise, you start by highlighting the song/video/selection in either the iTunes library or on the iPod song list as displayed in iTunes then press the delete key on your keyboard: Deleting songs or playlists from your iPod

I can't delete songs on my the greyed out music on my iPhone. I've tried deleting it all by going on settings > general > usage > music and deleting it there but it just stays there despite saying 'music: no data'. I've tried unticking the songs when i plug my phone into itunes but it just comes up with a grey exclamation mark and i've also tryed just syncing my muisc and that doesn't work either
I don't want to restore my phone though because i don't want to lose my texts or notes, helppppp

I wouldn't - uncheck Sync in Music tab of iTunes then re-sync and see if your music disappears from your phone.

How can I delete songs from my music in my Iphone 4

If you have updated to iOS 7, then you can swipe from from right to left on the song that you want to remove and click the red "delete" button.
Alternatively, you can select the "Playlists" tab at the bottom of the music app > then select the playlist that contains the song that you want to delete > Click the edit button > Press the red circle with the dash through it next to the song that you want to delete.
Let me know what iOS version you have if you have not already downloaded iOS 7.
    Hope that helps

  • I deleted songs in my iphone on the music app but when I sync with the computer the songs disappear. How can I delete songs on my phone but keep them in iTunes?

I deleted songs in my iphone on the music app but when I sync with the computer the songs disappear. How can I delete songs on my phone but keep them in iTunes?

I use iTunes Match so I can't confirm this on my computer (my Music tab looks different), but as I recall, on the Music tab you have the option to check to sync selected playlists, artists and genres, and then check which playlists you want to sync below that.  Then, like songs, you would uncheck the playlists you don't want on your phone and sync to remove them.

  • Delete Dialogue not appearing... can't delete songs from hard-drive

After downloading ver 7.0.2 I can't delete songs from my hard-drive by deleting them in iTunes.
There's supposed to be a dialogue(sp?) box that shows up when you delete a song in the main library (not in playlists), that asks you if you want to permanantly delete a file (song, movie, etc), or if you only want to delete it from the iTunes list.
It's not showing up for me, so I have to seek out the folder and delete the song manually in Windows.
I'd get this problem occasionaly in the older versions, but usually a restart of the program, or in worse cases, rebooting the computer would solve the problem, but not this time.
I've tried re-installing the program, but no luck.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks.

I tried the following fix, and it didn't work..
Is anyone else having this problem after upgrading to 7.0.2?
I'm sure I didn't check the box in the delete dialog that says "do not show this again"
I've also tried hitting the shift key when deleting.. still no luck.
    HELP!!
    Resetting the iTunes Preference Files:
    -- Quit iTunes
    -- Delete C:\Documents and Settings\<your username>\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iTunes.pref
    -- Delete C:\Documents and Settings\<your username>\Local Settings\Application Data\Apple Computer Inc\iTunes.pref
You may need to enable 'Show Hidden Files/Folders' in Windows Explorer==>Tools menu==>Folder Options==>’View’ tab before you can see the Application Data & Local Settings folders.
This will force iTunes to run the setup assistance the next time you open it. You'll have to go back and re-set any preferences you want changed from the iTunes default. When you restart iTunes, it will perform its initial startup process. Do not let iTunes search for your music files. The old library is still there and iTunes will see it after it gets past the initial dialog screens.

can i delete songs from my ipod classic

    Hello Todd,
You can't delete them directly from the iPod.  You need to do it through iTunes.  How you delete music depends on how you have it set up to sync with your iTunes library, whether that be automatically or manually.  All this is covered in your iPod's User Guide.

  • Can I delete the my music file on my computer

I have over 11K songs on my i tunes and almost 30k songs on my music.  It's taking up too much room on my computer.  Can I delete the my music files just have the I tunes,   or delete the my music file and then drag the music from I tunes and put it in the my music.
I sure there are a lot of doubles in the my music file.
I also have an external hard drive.
    Can you please help  me.
    Thank you so much.
    Sally

Yes... With iTunes closed move the entire iTunes folder from <User's Music> to the top of the external drive, e.g. as X:\iTunes where X:\ is the drive letter, then click the icon that starts iTunes and immediately press and hold down the shift key and keep holding until prompted to choose or create a library. Click choose then browse to and open the file X:\iTunes\iTunes Library.itl - your library should show exactly as before. Double check that the media folder under Edit > Preferences > Advanced now reads X:\iTunes\iTunes Media. (I'm assuming here that your library won't be old enough for the media folder to have been called iTunes Music as it was back on iTunes 8.) Once you've checked that use File > Library > Organize Library > Consolidate files in case the library is connected to any files stored outside of the media folder. This brings in copies of those files.
If you think there is media in <User's Music> that was not previously connected to the iTunes library you can move this into X:\iTunes\Automatically Add to iTunes otherwise you can discard files that you know to be duplicates.
As for duplicates already within the library, or created by moving the remnants of <User's Music> into Automatically Add to iTunes, Apple's official advice is here... HT2905 - How to find and remove duplicate items in your iTunes library. It is a manual process and the article fails to explain some of the potential pitfalls. (Such as lost playlist membership!)
Use Shift > View > Show Exact Duplicate Items to display duplicates as this is normally a more useful selection. You need to manually select all but one of each group to remove. Sorting the list by Date Added may make it easier to select the appropriate tracks, however this works best when performed immediately after the dupes have been created.  If you have multiple entries in iTunes connected to the same file on the hard drive then don't send to the recycle bin.
Use my DeDuper script if you're not sure, don't want to do it by hand, or want to preserve ratings, play counts and playlist membership. See this thread for background and please take note of the warning to backup your library before deduping.
(If you don't see the menu bar press ALT to show it temporarily or CTRL+B to keep it displayed)

  • I cannot delete songs from Music on my iPad 2 iOS 7

I swipe from right to left and choose delete. The song is still there with a cloud and down arrow. How can I remove songs from Music on the iPad 2?

I have spent the last two nights trawling forums for an answer and what I have finally found had worked, wasn't actually mentioned anywhere so I feel like I have to share it in case it helps someone else, I was going crazy!!
Firstly, you will need to put all of the music you currently want on your ipad into a playlist in itunes on the computer you're syncing with. This is a sort of start again from scratch type approach seeing as nothing else seemed to work.
    1. I turned off my home sharing from settings - music
    2. I went to settings - general - usage - music - edit (in top right) - swipe to delete all music
    3. Connected to a computer and opened itunes.
    4. On the summary page, scroll down to options and select manually manage music and videos. Click APPLY.
    5. On the music page untick the sync music box CLICK APPLY.
    6. On the on this ipad page, highlight all music (ctrl A) and DEL - it will ask if you want to remove, click ok.
    7. Still on the on this ipad page, see the autofill line at the bottom? Click on settings at the right hand side, there is a sliding bar to determine how much space you want to leave free on your ipad for disk space. Then simply select the playlist with all your music in that you want on your ipad to autofill from.
    8.Click SYNC.
    Huzzah!
I hope thats helped someone else I was literally tearing my hair out over it. It's worked for me, although there is still some music on the on my ipad list, in a faded grey, which isnt actually on my ipad. So thats annoying but not the end of the world.
Apple - it really shouldnt be this difficult!

  • I can't delete songs from iphone

For some reason I can't fathom I can't delete music from my iPhone in iTunes. I manually manage my songs and usually I hit the delete button and the album/songs will be removed from my phone. All that happens now when I do this is when I hit the delete button it scrolls to the last album on my phone.
Also when I try this in iTunes the same thing happens, I can only delete songs/albums from my iTunes library by right clicking and selecting delete (an option I don't have when trying to delete songs from my iPhone)
Can anybody help? I am running iTunes 10.4 on OS Lion on a Macbook Pro, with iPhone 4. I've tried reinstalling iTunes and retoring my phone from a previous back up. Didn't work.

You have posted to the iTunes Match forum which your question is not related to. You will get better support responses by posting to either the Using iPhone or the appropriate iTunes forum.

  • I can't delete songs on my ipod

literally. i can't delete songs on my ipod. It doesn't let me delete.
    What should I do?

Are you trying to delete them directly from the iPod via the iPod itself? If so, this is not possible.
If you are trying to delete them from your iPod via iTunes, you must have your iPod Touch set up for manual management, meaning the Manually manage music and videos option must be ticked from under its Summary tab in iTunes.

    Tap the Music app.

  • Can't delete song from ipod touch that is not in my library

Can't delete song from ipod touch that is not in my library

Monty's solution will work if you have left the songs in one of your playlists. Another idea if that doesn't work is to check your iTunes list for that iPod. Check at the very bottom beneath the albums, artist,s and other content to add to your iPod, and be sure that you don't have individual songs selected to be added as well. If you do, eliminate them from that bottom list, and you should be fine.
