Can't discharge the battery!

I know that new battery technology doesn't really care but the battery in my iPhone is so good that it rarely if ever gets below 1/8 discharge from full.
Of course I put it back on the USB cable to charge at night for the next day.
I guess I'm wondering if I'm shortening the battery life by not taking it down further. Should I go a few days before charging?
When I bought the phone the one thing I didn't consider is what happens when I finally need battery repair. My buddy that also has an iphone said that Apple has a battery replacement program, but does that mean you have to ship your phone away for several days? How will this work?
M

You should not discharge the battery (and cannot discharge it below 10%; the phone will shut off and tell you to charge it). If you search the apple.com support site you will find several articles on battery care. You are actually extending battery life by charging it before it is fully discharged.
Apple has a battery replacement program. It is $70 if out of warranty and not under Applecare. Free otherwise. You can have them send you a loaner for a small additional fee (I think its $23).
By the time the battery goes in a couple of years you will probably want the newer model, anyway. And there will most likely be 3rd party replacement services.
(I've never kept a phone for more than 2 years, and I've had a cell phone for 15 years).

  • How long before you can't charge the battery

    How many times can you charge the battery before replacing and where do you get it replaced?

    From http://www.apple.com/batteries/ipad.html :
    A properly maintained iPad battery is designed to retain up to 80% of its original capacity at 1000 full charge and discharge cycles. You may choose to replace your battery when it no longer holds sufficient charge to meet your needs.

  • Can you disable the battery or not allow it to charge even if it is pluged in?

    Can you disable the battery or charging function even if the laptop is pluged in to a power outlet? Is there any internal switch?

    Your battery will remain healthy - and discharge a bit - even when you're plugged into mains. If you're going to run primarily of mains, you should disconnect your MBP about every two weeks and allow it to drain down to about 30-40% and then allow it to recharge - this will keep the ions in the battery 'moving'.
    Most of the time you just needn't worry about the battery - just use it thoughtfully.

    How can I remove the battery from my iphone and ipad?

    The iPhone and iPad do not have user serviceable batteries. Battery replacement is handled by Apple. Make an appointment at the Genius Bar if battery replacement is required.

  • Can you display the battery strength in numbers on home screen like you would for the signal?

    I know you can view it at the option/status arena, but can you change the battery strength display at the home screen to numbers like you would on the signal?

    BatteryPercent = DeviceInfo.getBatteryLevel();
    LabelField Label1 = new  LabelField();
    Label1.setText(""+BatteryPercent+"%");
    you can use the above code to display battery percent

  • How can I use the battery and let it be perfectly healthy?

    Hello everybody!
    I love this forum because everyone is a great helpful person.. .. However, I'd like to ask you couple things about the MacBook battery...
    I know that now the battery has been improved, it leasts longer and it can support 1000 charging cycles.
    (Right now I'm performing the battery calibration)
    I'd like to know how can I use the battery and let it be perfectly healthy.
    For instance,
    1) If I connect the laptop to the MagSafe and let it charge, when should I remove the plug from the Mac and when should I put it in charge? I don't wanna continously waste cycles and let my battery die too soon (it's too young to die! :-D ) .. I use it mainly at home connected to the MagSafe: someone tell that even if you leave the MagSafe connected after the mac has been charged it stops charging (I can see this), and others say that is not a good thing to let the mac connected to the plug for a long time... with the old model I used to disconnect the battery from the mac so I didn't have these problems but with the new one it's a long procedure...
    2) I usually use to calibrate the battery once a month... Is it a good thing?
    Thanks!
    Andrea

    I was not aware of the fact one could use ringtones as alarms, this will suffice! Although I foresee some very awkward times as the sound does not stop once I respond to the reminder (it keeps going for good five - ten seconds after I "stop" the reminder), but it's better than missing it altogether!
    Thank you very much!
    Regarding the Alarmed app, doesn't it have to be running to actually remind you?
    -Modular747: I don't know anyone who actually reads the terms of service agreement, those things are usually up to thirty, small print pages full of legal jargon. Rules, I do read - not the legal documents (also they often contradict the laws in my country, but that's a whole different story).
    I agree with you - the average customer support consultant mostly cares about keeping his job and earning his salary (don't we all?) and thus racking up completted tasks (i.e. getting rid of customers as fast as possible - in a good mood). The "threat" none the less is real, if a cell phone causes me more trouble than it is worth, I will indeed throw it away (I have done so before) - and recommend a different brand to anyone willing to listen.
    Don't get me wrong, I love Apple and I've been faithfully using and recommending their producs for twenty years now, not because of fanboyism, but because they earned it. This calendar issue, however, is like a toaster that doesn't automatically eject the toast at the set time. I see it as a major flaw and after googling around a bit I see that it's been around since at least 2007 (THAT'S SEVEN YEARS!!) so I strongly believe they are aware of this problem by now, but are choosing to ignore it for some mysterious reason and it really ****** me off.
    I will send the feedback but based on my observations I suspect the Send button is merely a cleverly disguised Delete button.
