Cannot download updates and cannot purchase songs on iTunes. Tried reloading iTunes. Did not fix problem.

I figured out that now you can download them for free just by contacting iTunes Store Support and requesting redeem codes for apps made by Apple.

Can't download updates and previous purchases

App store is not downloading updates or previous purchases (from another computer). Clicking the Update or Install button, just changes the button to light grey for a couple of seconds, then goes back to normal dark grey, but nothing downloads.
Any suggestions?

To give a little more detail:
I recently purchased two applications, Transmit and Keynote. They downloaded and installed just fine on my iMac. I then tried to install them on my MacBook Pro (recently bought new) and nothing happens when I click the install button next to the entries under Purchases.
I have probably 10 other apps that installed just fine. I can even install any of them right now and it downloads and installs just fine. Only Transmit and Keynote (my latest purchases) it doesn't work. I can also "buy" and install new software and it works.
If I log out and back in to my Apple ID account, it'll ask me for my password like it normally does to install software, but then again does nothing -- the button just flips back to "Install" after a second.
There is no error message at all, although yesterday the very first time I tried to install the software there was some kind of server error. I tried quitting and restarting Mac App Store.
I tried rebooting. I checked my Applications folder for Transmit.app or Keynote.app just in case there was something half downloaded or a trial version that could conflict -- nothing.
I ran Software Update and everything was fully up to date. I also ran the combo 10.6.7 update.
I tried deleting the appstore and storeagent files in ~/Library/Caches, ~/Library/Cookies and ~/Library/Preferences
None of this has had any effect.
I have contacted Apple Support. Hopefully they will have some advice to offer.

I really appreciate all your help. Today I spent some time on the problem. First I purchased any video converter from the ap store and then I connected the camera to the mac with the original usb cable that came with the camera. I turned on the camera and selected backup on pc and the logo came up on my home page. I opened it and after several attempts i found the 3 video files that were on the camera. I then converted them from a tod file to mp4 and then transfered them to imovie. Now I have to figure out how to send the video to youtube or move it to an external hard drive which I have not been able to do. So far I am not too fond of imovie 11. If you could send me the download for imovie 6 I then could try that route. When talking to apple support yesterday about the problem they suggested to get Final Cut Express. I have a couple or dozen or so excel spread shheets that I use origionally created in M/s Excel v.5.0 ( yup some time ago although have run and updated them on office 2007 perfectly etc. AND numerous word files that I refer to. I have also run these files using Open Office on a small 13" mac Book Pro. successfully.
I have now decided to change my personal use computers > macs.
Ok, so in summary then i think you kind guys are saying:
(1) That if i buy Pages & Numbers or even iworks which is Apple's suite of such programs i believe, then I can download and Run these apps /programs on each my personal mac computers whether they be my second hand Imac or second hand 17" mac book pro. ( basically i have purchased these so that I am converting to the "Apple Side" and can use the Imac desktop while at home and Mac book pro when out and about) , under the one purchase and one licence.
(2) The decision as to whether to Buy M/s Office for Mac v Pages & Numbers or the iworks suite is that if I have lots of MACROs in my existing files written in M/soft that it would be better to go for M/s Office for Mac. I understand that Macros are the automated thingys ?? I have formulae obviously inthe fairly simple spread sheets but not aware of any macros. So I guess that means ~ I could purchase either product by the sounds of it. yes? Are there any other obvious things i need to consider?

Also, I have snow leopard on one system and Maveric ( pretty impresive!) on the other. i am slightly reluctant to upgrade the snow leopard o/s as I would have to upgrade the paralles software and probably Windows software as well in order to run an old Kitchen, drawing program that I use occaisionally. I know that one should be able to partition / and Boot camp but I really don't want to do that. I feel at this stage its not worth payingtoi up grade all these bits of software for something I rarely use. But I am open to anyones comments / views.

You can use iTunes to sync the two devices. See the KB article, iOS: How to transfer or sync content to your computer and iTunes for Mac: sync contacts, calendar and other info.
If you want to use iCloud, your MacBook needs to use at least OS 10.7.4 or later. See Set up iCloud on all your Devices.

You should be able to control the function that the side switch isn't controlling via the left-hand end of the taskbar : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4085 - is the icon that appears there (notification mute or rotation lock) indicating that that function is 'off' ?

Make sure you enter your new Id in settings/message, settings/facetime. ANy content that you downloaded with the old ID is forever linked to that old ID and if you have apps that were downloaded with the old ID and you want to update them you can only do that with the old ID. You could delete those apps and downlad them again ( and pay for them if they are not free apps)
