Can't find firmware update in folder it's supposed to be in

I just purchased the iMac software install CD for Mac OS9.2 and tried to install it on my very old blueberry imac which is now running 8.6. I started the computer up from the CD and everything loads in correctly to start but when I try to install it, a message comes up saying that the firmware needs to be updated and that it is in the CD extras folder. When I open that folder I don't see anything that says anything about firmware updates. Am I overlooking something or is it called something else and I'm just not looking for the right thing? I've exhausted every book I can find and there isn't much about OS9 or firmware in any of them. I don't have that computer hooked up to the internet at the time so I can't download updates. I have access to an iMac (intel) if I can do something to a disk (I've honestly never tried it yet with the new iMac) I just hope you aren't going to tell me I bought the wrong disk, I have a dreadful feeling that $40 later I'm out of luck. I've already been majorly taken by the apple store that screwed up this computer in the first place (sold me and installed the wrong memory, then when nothing would work properly said the memory wasn't right, they took OSX out and said it would not run on this computer, installed OS9 without charging me because of all of the problems, but never gave me a disk for it. Then one day the dreaded blinking question mark appeared and OS9 would never run again so I'm back to good old 8.6 and thought I'd try again. I'd appreciate any help you can offer. It would mean the world to me if I could get this running in OS9.

Hi, KAC13 -
As Niel has stated, the OS 9.1 CD, p/n 691-2746-A, will work.
The p/n for the retail OS 9.2.1 Install CD (North American English) is 691-3334-A.
Both of those CDs will contain any firmware update required in order to install that version on your model. It would be advisable to test run the disk before proceeding to remove your existing OS 8.6 - boot to it, then try the installer. If you get the "your need to update the firmware" protest at any point, you will still have OS 8.6 on the machine and so be able to install the firmware update.
If that protest does occur, copy the sub-folder containing the firmware update for your model from the CD to the hard drive before trying to install it.

  • App Store can't find any updates? No response from server.

When I open iTunes I get a message saying "a new version of iTunes is ready for download". But when I click download/update it takes me to App Store where it can't find any updates. It keeps saying "Didn't get a response from the Software Update server (198.168.1.7)." every time I check for updates. Please help! I know there is a new update for iTunes and I can't update it.
Please if you have any suggestions or ideas or explanations please let me know! I would greatly appreciate it!!!
    Thanks in advance.

The system is configured to download updates from a private server, not from Apple. That server isn't working or isn't reachable. If you're bound to a network directory server, or if you're behind a firewall that doesn't allow downloading updates directly from Apple, your network administrator has to solve the problem. Otherwise, proceed as follows.
    Back up all data.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    /Library/Preferences/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.plist
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
    In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder…
from the menu bar. Paste into the box that opens (command-V), then press return.
A Finder window will open with a file selected. Delete the selected file. You may be prompted for your administrator password. Restart the computer and try Software Update again.

  • I can't find firmware for my macbook6,1 2009late!

hey guys, i have some problem here.
when i turn a boot camp assistant it says that i should update my firmware to continue.
so, i went to the apple site to get firmware but i can't find firmware for my macbook!
i tried to update my software latest. what should i do for it?
anybody give me some advice!! plz

While I've found reference to a Firmware update for the MacBook versions immediately
earlier than your model and immediately later than your model (you cite MacBook6.1)
there was no listing where I commonly find that information on yours.
How and where was your MacBook identified as 6.1? In the system profile inside?
Very odd that it would ask for a Firmware update for BootCamp, unless there is an
issue with either BootCamp or the computer.
If you cannot discover what is going on, that would be an item to consult a Genius
at an Apple Store, should there be one within reasonable distance of your location.
At many Apple Stores that have an expert or Genius on staff, you can ask. Several
allow you to set an appointment ahead of a visit so you have scheduled time there.
A visit to see the Genius should be of no charge, and they can diagnose issues
even though your device may not have any AppleCare or warranty plan.
You could contact Support to set reservation:

  • How can I find a lost bookmark folder in another bookmark folder? I had a sticky mouse when I moved it.

How can I find a lost bookmark folder? A folder stuck on my mouse pointer I shook the mouse and it released the folder somewhere in the hundreds of other bookmark folders. I don't want to have to open every folder and search every file to locate it. Any ideas would be appreciated.

    Renaldo,
You might try restoring a backup of your bookmarks.
    1. From the menu at the top of the Firefox window bar, click the Bookmarks menu and choose Organize Bookmarks to open the Library window.
    2. Before proceeding, you should make a backup of your current bookmarks.
    1. From the toolbar on the Library window, select Import and Backup and choose Backup.
    2. Firefox will ask you to save the bookmark backup to a folder on your hard drive. Choose a location that you will remember.
    3. Your current bookmarks have been backed up to the file you selected.
    3. From the toolbar on the Library window, select Import and Backup to open the Import and Backup menu, and pick Restore to see a list of available bookmark backups organized by date.
    4. To restore one of the listed backups, select it from the Restore menu. Choose the newest bookmark backup that was created before the bookmarks were lost. You will lose all changes to your bookmarks that occurred after the date you select.
'''NOTE:''' To restore a backup that you saved manually, select Choose File from the Restore menu instead of selecting an automatic backup
    5. A confirmation window will appear asking you to confirm replacing your bookmarks with the backup. To replace the bookmarks, press OK. To go back, press Cancel.
'''NOTE:''' You cannot undo this unless you saved a backup file as instructed above.
    6. Your bookmarks have been restored to the date you selected. If your bookmarks do not show up after completing the restore process, repeat the above steps to restore an earlier backup.
If the backup follows the bookmark structure then the missing folder should be displayed

  • Where can I find ipod updater so iTunes 10 will see my scrollwheel 10G ipod?

Where can I find ipod updater so iTunes 10 will see my scrollwheel 10G ipod?
I used it exclusively on an old iBook. (POS from the beginning - bad motherboard, replaced, went bad just out of warranty. So I use it for only certain things.)
Now I want to load the scrollwheel ipod (also POS, bad motherboard where the headphones plug in, can't be repaired) from my iTunes 10 machine.
iTunes 10 does not see the ipod with it's 1.2.6 software.   iTunes 7.5 sees it but will no longer update itself or the ipod.
    - my sig:  Whatever we're talking about, please don't tell me to buy a new one unless you're willing to pay for it.  Thanks.

A "scrollwheel 10G" (10 GB) iPod may be 3rd gen...  If it's a 3rd gen iPod, the one with a "scrollwheel" and four "touch" buttons in a row between the screen and wheel (that glow orange), it will only work properly with a FireWire connection.  Although it has a dock connector, it does not charge over a USB connection.  If you Mac has a FireWire 800 port, you can use an adapter to connect to the old FireWire (400) docking cable.
Mine still works perfectly (it's had a few battery replacements) with the latest iTunes and Mac OS X 10.7.4.  I think it has great sound...

If you are currently running an iOS lower than 5.0, connect the iPad to the computer, open iTunes. Then select the iPad under the Devices heading on the left, click on the Summary tab and then click on Check for Update.
Tip - If connected to your computer, you may need to disable your firewall and anitvirus software temporarily.  Then download and install the iOS update. Be sure and backup your iPad before the iOS update. After you update an iPad (except iPad 1) to iOS 6.x, the next update can be installed via wifi (i.e., not connected to your computer).
Tip 2 - If you're updating via wifi, place your iPad close to your router to preclude getting a corrupted download.
How to Upgrade to iOS 7
The iOS 7.0 update requires around 2.5 GB of storage space, so if your iPad is almost full, you may need to clear up some space. You can check your available space in Settings -> General -> Usage.
There are two ways to upgrade to iOS 7: You can use your Wi-Fi connection, or you can connect your iPad to your PC and update through iTunes. We'll go over each method.
    To upgrade using Wi-Fi:
Note: If your iPad's battery is under 50%, you will want to plug it into your charger while performing the update.
        1.    Go into the iPad's Settings.
        2.    Locate and tap "General" from the menu on the left.
        3.    The second option from the top is "Software Update". Tap this to move into the update settings.
        4.    Tap "Download and Install". This will start the upgrade, which will take several minutes and will reboot your iPad during the process. If the Download and Install button is grayed out, trying clearing up some space. The space required by the update is mostly temporary, so you should gain most of it back after iOS 7 is installed.
        5.    Once the update is installed, you may have to run through the initial steps of setting up your iPad again. This is to account for new features and settings.
    To upgrade using iTunes:
First, connect your iPad to your PC or Mac using the cable provided when you purchased your device. This will allow iTunes to communicate with your iPad.
You will also need the latest version of iTunes. Don't worry, you will be prompted to download the latest version when you launch iTunes. Once it installs, you may be asked to setup iCloud by logging into your iTunes account. If you have a Mac, you may be prompted on whether or not you want to enable the Find my Mac feature.
Now you are ready to begin the process:
        1.    If you upgraded iTunes earlier, go ahead and launch it. (For many, it will launch automatically when you plug in your iPad.)
        2.    Once iTunes is launched, it should automatically detect that a new version of the operating system exists and prompt you to upgrade to it. Choose Cancel. Before updating, you will want to manually sync your iPad to make sure everything is up to date.
        3.    After canceling the dialog box, iTunes should automatically sync with your iPad.
        4.    If iTunes doesn't automatically sync, you can manually do it by selecting your iPad within iTunes, clicking on the File menu and choosing Sync iPad from the list.
        5.    After your iPad has been synced to iTunes, select your iPad within iTunes. You can find it on the left side menu under Devices.
        6.    From the iPad screen, click on the Update button.
        7.    After verifying that you want to update your iPad, the process will begin. It takes a few minutes to update the operating system during which time your iPad may reboot a few times.
        8.    After updating, you may be asked a few questions when your device finally boots back up. This is to account for new settings and features.
