Can't get Home Sharing to work with ATV, v7.0.3 and iTunes 12.1.0.50

I can't get Home Sharing to work. I'm looking at my MacBook screen and iTunes says Home Sharing is On. On Apple TV, it says Turn On Home Sharing in iTunes. Both are using the same Apple ID and password (signed out and signed back in manually on both). I have tried the following: Signing out of and into Home Sharing on Apple TV and iTunes, closing iTunes and restarting the MacBook, restarting and restoring Apple TV to factory settings, restarting my router, all possible iterations of the aforementioned. Nothing seems to work. Also tried renaming my computer in preferences/sharing.
Any new ideas?
Using ATV3 software v7.0.3
iTunes software v12.1.0.50
MacBook software OS X Yosemite v10.10.2

Only have one network; wireless. On it's own, the MacBook can use wifi to surf the net and Apple TV can watch movie previews from Apple via wifi.
It did work about two months ago. I haven't used it since then for home sharing but have used the Apple TV on its own.
I read the Troubleshooting page on Apple Support. It involves turning various things on and off, which I did

  • I just upgraded my Apple TV v2 and I can't get home sharing to work? I do have internet and can use my iPhone as a remote (home sharing ok) on the computer I'm trying to connect. Any ideas?

I just upgraded my Apple TV 2. I am now no longer able to share music with my computers or use my Iphone as a remote. I can however use my iphone as a remote (via home sharing) with my other two macs. Any ideas?

Windows 8 has not been officially released and is not supported.
Try google for possible solutions... otherwise, downgrade the OS back to Windows 7 or wait until a version of iTunes is released that supports Windows 8.

Try powering down all the PCs, then restarting them and itunes.
    It worked for this person:
+shut everything down, start up again, and make sure that iTunes is open on both computers.+

  • Can't get Home Sharing to work after updating iTunes to 11.1.5

I just updated iTunes to 11.1.5 and can no longer access Home Sharing on my other devices such as iPhone and Apple TV (3rd Gen).  I have gone through the trouble shooting guidelines.  My network is fine. I can access the iTunes store from both devices.  I have rebooted iTunes and apps and Apple TV.  Have turned Sharing off and on.  I have checked settings on the phone.  Nothing seems to be working.  Any ideas?

  • How can i get home sharing to work, how can i get home sharing to work

When I sign into my Apple ID on multiple computers for home sharing, the icon on the left hand side in itunes disappears after I click done. I have tried to redownload itunes, restart my computer, basically anything the internet said but nothing helped. Helpp please!!

    Gino Cerullo,
Thanks for your response. I tried all that myself. In fact, last night, it all worked fine on all users. This morning, no Home Sharing would show up. It is really weird because some setting must have changed, but I did not knowingly changed anything, and now all the obvious fixes don't work. In fact, if I turn off Home Sharing and turn it back on, then it comes up only until I hit the "done" button on the set up page and then it goes away from the left hand column again. The ADVANCED drop down tab says it is on, but it is not there.
    Thanks anyway.

  • Can't get home sharing to work

So I got a 4th generation ipod touch and want to get it to connect to my atv2, but when I put in my apple id and password it says "unable to connect to home sharing" I used the same apple id on it as I did on my macbook pro and my atv2, which both connected with each other just fine, and I just can't get it to work. Any suggestions??

I just got my Apple TV home and was experiencing the same issue. I have gone to Preferences/Sharing and turned on the Home Sharing option. My MacBook Pro wasn't showing up in the 'Computers' menu on the Apple TV.
However, there's a 'Turn on Home Sharing' option under the 'Advanced' menu of iTunes that has done the trick. When you select this option it will prompt you for your Apple ID and password. Once entered everything worked fine. See http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4352
I don't know whether I'm just telling you something that you already know but this worked for me.

  • Help!  Can't get music sharing to work with AE.

So I have the music stored on desktop PC (running Windows XP SP2), connected via wire to Linksys WRT54G wireless router. Itunes on PC1 works perfectly with AE in the living room. With Itunes on PC1, I can send the music to the PC speakers, or to the "Living Room" wirelessly.
But here's the problem. I have laptop PC connected wirelessly to Linksys router. But I cannot get Itunes/Airport to connect to Itunes on desktop PC. No music shows up, nor does the speaker selector (living room, or pc) show up in the bottom panel.
From the laptop PC I can connect to the AE via the Airport Admin when I manually enter the AE's IP address: 192.168.1.100 . I can manually ping the AE as well from both PCs. I have windows firewall "OFF" for both PCs. I am using the latest Apple software versions.
All of the obvious Itunes "Sharing" settings are set to "on". "Look for remote speakers" is on.
Why can't I get Itunes to connect to Itunes on desktop PC or to the AE?
    Thanks for your help!

  • I can't get home sharing to work on one of our computers

I am trying to transfer my boyfriends library to my itunes and can not make it work. We are both on the same version of itunes and window computers. When we both log in and turn on share, my library shows on his computer and I can transfer stuff from mine to his. On my computer, once I turn on share and click done, the sharing option does not show on the left side tool bar and I can not do anything with it at all. I have authorized the computer, checked preferences, etc.
Any thoughts on how to fix this??
    Thanks!

  • Why do I have to restart iTunes on my iMac to get Home Sharing to work again on my ATV2 and ATV3?

Last week I ordered two more Apple TVs 3rd generation.  I have connected them to my network and the ATV2 that I had, seems to be working differently.  I have to restart my iTunes on my iMac to get Home Sharing to work again.  I go to Apple Support and reference this page (http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2972) and it seems to be the only solution, reset iTunes.
I currently have all apple products from end to end.  This doesn't seem to be working out as seamless as it should.  Any suggestions?

Until Apple gets off their butts to fix this, you can do this.  Create a workflow that 1. Closes iTunes, 2. Pauses 10 seconds, 3. Opens iTunes.  Then Save it as an Application.
    Then...
Create an Apple Script by "recording yourself" launching your new workflow.  Save that Apple Script.
    Finally..
Go into Mail, and create a Rule that when you receive an email with the subject as "Restart iTunes" it will run your Apple Script (wchich launches your workflow app).
Just send yourself an email from you chair!!!  :-)  Please reply if this works for you.  It works GREAT for me on Mountain Lion!
    Enjoy!

  • I cannot get "home sharing" to work on my Apple TV device

I cannot get "home sharing" to work on Apple TV.I
I type in my apple id and password to no avail.
Why isn't the apple tv device taking this info and activating home share?

I am having the same problems with Home Sharing using the Apple TV.  The problems seemed to appears to have started within the last week or so.  Did updates and all.   Went to the Apple TV and it couldn't see either Home Share on either computers that Home Share is turned ON.  Reset the routers, reinstalled iTunes on the iMac and MacBookPro.  Created a second Wi-Fi Access point using a Airport Express.  Put the MacBookPro and TimeCapsule on the same network and still no love to see the Home Share contents.
We have had both Mac's and Apple TV for several years and have never had any problems like this.
