  • Can't get iTunes to download new music to Windows XP.

I have a MacBook Air, and iPhone, and an iPad2. iTunes is installed on all three and they are synching just fine. I recently authorized my home computer--running Windows XP--for home sharing. I have iTunes installed, and it has organized all of the music on my computer into the iTunes library. It isn't syncing automatically when I open iTunes. When I go to the iTunes Store, and click on New, it says I need to have the newest version of Safari installed. I downloaded and installed Safari, and it seems to work fine. I rebooted the computer after install, restarted iTunes and tried again, with exactly the same result. I still get the error message saying I need to download Safari. Any thoughts?

Are you using the Apple Software Update program to do this?
Or did you download itunes from this page and choose SAVE (instead of RUN)?

If you went without an appointment, then it would make sense that you could be turned away.

  • How can I get itunes to download and install?

How can I get itunes to download and install?

You need to install it - just downloading does not necessarily install it. If you double click it, does it open an installer window? Or, can you simply drag it into your Applications folder (if it is not showing in Launchpad)?
FWIW, your downloads folder is just a temporary "holding" place for your downloads - once you have installed applications or moved other files where they belong, you can empty that folder.
PS - If this is what you downloaded, it is a disk image (.dmg) which means you need to double click it; you then need to move the icon and install it.
Out of curiosity: is it working well? I'm curious because it is rather dated software.

What's the precise text of that message, please? (There's a few different ones I can think of that you might be getting.)

Just got a new computer with Windows 8. Can't get Itunes to install. Checked with a clerk at Sam's Club who said it wouldn't install for her either.
What do I need to do. Sent an email to Apple; but just got a computer generated response with no helpful advice.

Do you get an error message when you try to install iTunes? If so, what does it say? (Precise text, please.)

  • I can't get itunes to download to my computer...

I just recently purchased a new ipod nano and I have tried multiple times and ways of installing itunes 7.4. All times it hasn't completed. It always gets to be nearly the end and then it pops up with an error code and says that you need to have quicktime-which I also already have on my computer. So I proceeded to try and upgrade my quicktime, thinking that might be the issue, but that also wouldn't install, coming up with another error page.
Does anyone know what I could try or what the problem may be?
It's frustrating that I have this new ipod and I can't use it because I can't get music on it...
    Thanks!

    If I understand you correctly,
You have never had iTunes installed on your PC
You can't install it because of a problem with QUicktime
You have Quicktime and you can't uninstall Quicktime
It sounds as though you may need a manual removal of Quicktime followed by an installer cleanup.
Download a fresh copy of iTunes and the stand alone version of Quicktime and save them on your desktop
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/win.html
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install Microsoft Installer cleanup utility, there are instruction on the page as well as the download.
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301/
Now use the following method to remove Quicktime (not the other stuff, which I assume you do not have):
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93698
I am guessing that the QUicktime uninstall will not work, go on and delete the various files/folders as instructed in the method.
Now use the intsller cleanup utility to remove any reference you find to QUicktime.
Next install the stand alone Quicktime
If that goes through OK, install iTunes.

  • I can't get iTunes to download properly

Earlier today I got an iPod Nano after wanting one for a long time. When I got home I decided to open up my iTunes and get to work putting songs on it. Unfortunately the version I had was not compatible, so I came here to download the newest version. However, every time I try to install it when it gets to the "Stopping Services" part of the installation it freezes and say I don't have the authorization to do this or something along those lines. Please help as I need this to work before I can put any music on my iPod and I really don't want to find out I just wasted $200.

If it helps, the exact message I get was this:
"Error 1921. Service iPod Service (iPod Service) could not be stopped. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to stop system services."
Personally, I don't even understand what it's saying but maybe it will make sense to somebody.

  • Can't get itunes to download on Windows 8.1 computer

I click on the download icon, it asks me to save the file, I click to save and nothing happens.  I've checked the download folder and the file is not there.  I've tried many times and get the same results.
Any idea why the file isn't downloading?
This is a new computer, never had an itunes files, starting from scratch.
Anyone have any ideas as to what might be wrong?

  • Can't get itunes to download and I tried everything

I have a windows 7 64 bit and in order to use my new i-pad, I had to update to the newest version of itunes (10.5.2).  The update wouldn't install, and I have spent about 6 hours trying all of the following (multiple times!!):
    updated and repaired .Net framework
    updated MS windows
uninstalled itunes and all apple products
    deleted temporary folders
    cleaned out registry
    restarted computer
I am currently getting the following errors when I try to install itunes
During the publishing and product information:
error during the install of assembly policy 80 microsoft VC80.CRT type "win32-policy". version="8.0.50727.6195 public key token="1fc8b3b9ale18e3b". processor architectureX86. please refer to help and support for more information. HRESULT Ox...
If I say OK, then the install goes backward, then moves on and gives me:
service "apple movle device" failed to start.  verify that you have sufficient privilages to start system
If I ignore that, the when the installation is finished,
Apple application support was not found.  uninstall itunes and then install itunes again.  Error 2 (windows error 2)
I can't find what to do from apple or microsoft sites other than what I have already done.

    hi drummerman!
sorry for the delay in getting back to you.
my hypothesis at the moment is that you've actually got three different rare problems all piled on top of each other.
    (1) a rare variation on the weird rare registry/user-account thing (in which itunes will open in one preexisting account but not in other preexisting user accounts). i've seen that new Error # 63441 (or similar error numbers) show up under those circumstances too.
    (2) a really rare sort of registry-related 1603. (i think i've only seen that about three times in toto.)
    (3) and to cap it off, that strange situation where the registry isn't allowing you to make any edits ... which would compromise the techniques i've seen used with some success against similar versions of 1 and 2.
... so we're going to be experimenting for a little while, trying to get some toeholds on the rock wall of progress.
the first experiment is going to be related to confirming my diagnosis in (1) and trying to get around (3).
head into your user accounts control panel, and try to create a new user account with full administrative privileges. (there's help documentation on that to the left of the control panel screen.) while you're in that control panel, switch off fast user switching in your logging-on preferences.
now log out of whichever old account you were in, and log in to the new account.
    (1) does itunes launch successfully from inside the new account?
    (2) does the registry allow you to make any edits from inside the new account?
keep us posted. (i'm moving a little slowly through reply backlogs and whatnot at the moment, but i will be back to check on your progress.)
    love, b

  • I can't get iTunes to install on my HP windows vista 64 bit PC.

I uninstalled all items and re-installed per some recommendations on the forum and I still get error messages.

    Try the following steps:
    1. Go to Microsoft website to fix install and Unistall problems. Click "Run now" from Fix it to remove all iTunes & related installer files:
    http://support.microsoft.com/mats/Program_Install_and_Uninstall
Be aware that Windows Installer CleanUp Utility will not remove the actual program from your computer. However, it will remove the installation files so that you can start the installation, upgrade, or uninstall over.
    2. You should remove all instances of iTunes and the rest of the components listed below:
it may be necessary to remove all traces of iTunes, QuickTime, and related software components from your computer before reinstalling iTunes.
Use the Control Panel to uninstall iTunes and related software components in the following order:
    iTunes
    QuickTime
    Apple Software Update
    Apple Mobile Device Support
    Bonjour
Apple Application Support (iTunes 9 or later)
Follow the instructions from Apple article listed here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923 to remove all components
    3. Reboot your computer. Next, download iTunes from here:http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/ and install from scratch
