Can't get rid of items from the Side bar

I placed some movies in the side bar and now I can't get rid of them. I was able to remove one movie that I placed in the side bar today from the side bar, but some other movies I can't remove. I don't remember putting these movies in the side bar. When I left click on these movies all that comes up is Sidebar Preferences.

I found the answer by browsing. I am supposed to hold the Command key down and drag the item off the sidebar. It worked. I was trying to right click the item and remove it that way which didn't work.

All the photographs stored on my computer ended up getting put on my iPhone. How can I remove them from the iPhone?

Photos synced to your phone can only be removed from your phone the same way they got there, through the iTunes sync process. Connect your phone, iTunes running, & under the photos tab remove the checks for all albums/folders you do not want on your phone. Hit the apply/sync button & they will be removed from your phone.

  • I can't get rid of bing in the search bar

How can I get my default search engine back to google?  Everything I put into the search bar gets searched with bing as the search engine.

You may have installed the "Genieo" or "InstallMac" ad-injection malware. Follow the instructions on this Apple Support page to remove it.
Back up all data before making any changes.
Besides the files listed in the linked support article, you may also need to remove this file in the same way:
    ~/Library/LaunchAgents/com.genieo.completer.ltvbit.plist
If there are other items with a name that includes "Genieo" or "genieo" alongside any of those you find, remove them as well.
One of the steps in the article is to remove malicious Safari extensions. Do the equivalent in the Chrome and Firefox browsers, if you use either of those. If Safari crashes on launch, skip that step and come back to it after you've done everything else.
If you don't find any of the files or extensions listed, or if removing them doesn't stop the ad injection, then you may have one of the other kinds of adware covered by the support article. Follow the rest of the instructions in the article.
Make sure you don't repeat the mistake that led you to install the malware. Chances are you got it from an Internet cesspit such as "Softonic" or "CNET Download." Never visit either of those sites again. You might also have downloaded it from an ad in a page on some other site. The ad would probably have included a large green button labeled "Download" or "Download Now" in white letters. The button is designed to confuse people who intend to download something else on the same page. If you ever download a file that isn't obviously what you expected, delete it immediately.
In the Security & Privacy pane of System Preferences, select the General tab. The radio button marked Anywhere  should not be selected. If it is, click the lock icon to unlock the settings, then select one of the other buttons. After that, don't ignore a warning that you are about to run or install an application from an unknown developer.
Still in System Preferences, open the App Store or Software Update pane and check the box marked
Install system data files and security updates
    if it's not already checked.

  • In finder places is missing how can i get to put it on the side bar

in finder places is not there how can i get it to be there

If you are using Lion, places no longer exists.  It is now favourites, I understand.
Oh, BTW, it would help if you would fill out your profile ... otherwise we have to answer with guesses.

  • I have an app in my app store that is requiring an update but I never purchased the app and when I click update, another apple ID pops up that is not mine.  Now i keep getting reminders to update the app and I cant get rid of it from the app store.  Help.

I have an app in my app store that is requiring an update but I never purchased the app and when I click update, another apple ID pops up that is not mine.  Now i keep getting reminders to update the app and I cant get rid of it from the app store.  Help.

You installed a hacked app, originally from the Mac App Store. It contains the receipt for a different app, downloaded using an account that you don't control. You need to identify and remove the hacked app.
Important: The app you need to remove is not necessarily the one named in the App Store notice. For example, if the App Store says you need to update "Twitter," the hacked app may be "Angry Birds" or something else entirely. Don't make any assumptions about which app you're looking for. To find it, you have to carry out a systematic search.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:
    kMDItemAppStoreHasReceipt=1
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C).
In the Finder, press the key combination command-F to open a search window, or select
    File ▹ Find
from the menu bar. In the search window, select
    Search: This Mac
from the row of tokens below the toolbar. Below that is a popup menu initially showing Kind. From that menu, select  Other...
A sheet will drop down. In that sheet, select Raw Query and click OK or press return.
Now there will be a text box to the right of popup menu. Click in that box and paste (command-V).
The search window will show all the App Store products you've installed. Compare those search results with the list of your purchases from the App Store. To see the complete list, you may need to unhide hidden purchases. If any apps were download from the App Store using other Apple ID accounts that you control, sign in to the store under each of those ID's and check the purchases.
At least one of the items listed in the search window is not among your purchases in the App Store. Move each such item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator password. Empty the Trash.
Log out and log back in. Test.

  • What can I get rid off to clear the most space on my iPhone 4?

What can I get rid off to clear the most space on my iPhone 4?

Photos and videos usually take a lot of space. You can import them from the Camera Roll to a computer and delete them all from the phone or keep some if desired. If you delete and later decide you want some of them back on the phone you can sync them back via iTunes. Instructions for importing from the phone to the computer: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4083

Use Google and find some other unofficial copy. This is not supported by Apple (downgrading that is) and purely at your own risk. If you end up with one that has spyware, etc., it will be entirely your problem.

  • How do I get rid of BTFON from the service provider as it takes over everything??

How do I get rid of BTFON from the service provider as it takes over everything??

No idea what BTFON is or what "service provider" you mean, or what you mean by saying that it "takes over everything".  Is this a wireless network that you wish to stop connecting to?  If so, open System Preferences, click Network, then select AirPort, then click the Advanced button, then select the AirPort tab.  In the list that appears, select BTFON and click the '-' button.
If that's not what you're talking about, you'll need to be more specific.

When I right click and delete a bookmark in the bar, it disappears but comes back after I have shut down my computer and later boot up again.  How do I get rid of it permanently?

  • Getting rid or hide of the title bar without using jwidow

    hi everyone,
is there any way to get rid or hide of the title bar in a Jframe without using JWindow because this one didn't conserve all the abilities a JFrame(listeners)...
    thanks in advance

It is setUndecorated(true), but you'll need version 1.4 to use it. If you don't have it, then you use JWindow...

  • I need help recovering the DOWNLOAD ICON from the side bar thing

i don't know how but the download was gone from the side bar one day, i guess my parents did something accidentally and took it off. But i don't know. is there any way for me to get that icon back on the side bar?

To your other post - where is the home folder - - it's the little house in the Finder sidebar with your username after it.
    Yanda the panda wrote:
but the download folder is completely gone from everywhere
it only pops up a window when i download something
That is not the downloads directory - that's the Safari local Downloads window. Not the same
Now, are you saying that the real Downloads directory has been removed - deleted?
Click on that home folder - the house icon and look carefully for a Downloads Folder. It should look like this:
If you do not see it, perhaps it was moved.
In the Finder search window, enter downloads. Select "This Mac" and "File Name" and see if it pops up.
If not, do you have a backup? TM or something else?
If not, we can create a new Downloads folder but alas, everything in the original is gone.

  • Can't get rid of items that are making hard drive sleepless

I have an Intel iMac with a dead internal drive. I'm now booting and running it off its backup clone drive, an external La Cie Firewire drive. But the drive is constantly cycling, spinning down and spinning up, even when all apps are closed and the iMac seems (and should be) asleep (if the internal drive was doing this and i couldn't hear it, no wonder it died).
I looked in Activity Monitor to see what it's up to when it's supposed to be asleep, and see some repeated entries from outdated stuff- Lexmark Network Services (from a printer i no longer have) and Palm Desktop Background, from a Palm program i haven't used since 2006 and thought was de-installed.
The thing is, i can't seem to get rid of them. It's difficult to pinpoint their exact source thru Spotlight (or Inspect in Activity Monitor), and when i throw what i can trace of them in the trash, i can't empty it, i get a message that says "USB Transport rsrc is in use".
How can i get rid of these items, which are obsolete and might be what is keeping the drive cycling?
I removed a bunch of unneeded items from Login Items, but Lexmark one isn't there. And what is "Transport Monitor" (shows in both Startup Items and Activity Monitor)? Can i delete it from Login items?
Energy Saver settings seem fine- it's set to sleep after 10 minutes of inactivity. It's just not going inactive.
    Suggestions?
I'm having to shut the iMac down whenever i walk away from it to keep from hearing all that cycling from the drive (and wondering what it's doing to the drive).

One way to test is to Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, Test for action in Safe Mode, like if it still changes in 5-10 minutes...
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive
    Reboot, test again.
If it only does it in Regular Boot, then it maybe some 3rd party add-on, Check System Preferences>Accounts>Login Items window to see if it or something relevant is listed. It also may be Video Card or Airport going bad.
Check the System Preferences>Other Row, for 3rd party Pref Panes.
Also look in these if they exist, some are invisible...
    /private/var/run/StartupItems
    /Library/StartupItems
    /System/Library/StartupItems
    /System/Library/LaunchDaemons
    /Library/LaunchDaemons
Transport Monitor & Palm Desktop are related...

  • Can't get rid of classes from JServer

During the learning process, I created a World.java in directory hello, and following the examples in the online help, put this class in package hello. I found that if I did a loadjava from within the hello directory, the class is successfully loaded, but as hello.World; i.e., loadjava World.class produced an object hello.World in JServer. This class runs okay, but dropjava can't get rid of this class. I try both dropjava hello.World and dropjava World, and both of them say class not found. But the class is still there.
If I do things the right way (i.e., loadjava hello\World.class from the directory above hello), then dropjava works properly. So finally, the question is: how can I get rid of this class which dropjava says isn't there but actually continues to exist?

I found the answer by browsing. I am supposed to hold the Command key down and drag the item off the sidebar. It worked. I was trying to right click the item and remove it that way which didn't work.
