Can't get video monitor to work

I inherited the JVC TM-A101G, but I can't seem to get a picture on it (well, I did once, but the next time I logged on it had disappeared again).
Here's my setup:
I use a Panasonic mini-DV camcorder as my "deck"
Firewire from the camcorder to the G4
Firewire from the G4 to a DAC 200 converter
S-video from the DAC200 to the JVC monitor
What do all those connections get me? A blank screen on the video monitor. Can anyone help?

Yeah, Final Cut Pro is REALLY confused as to what device to send or receive a signal.
Camera...or deck...or converter. ONE ONLY.

  • Can't get video chat to work outside of LAN...

    Hello,
I can't get video chat to work.
All computers, LAN and WAN are running the latest iChat under 10.4 (including latest updates).
Within our LAN, via Bonjour, everything is fine.
I'm now trying to set up an offsite Intel iMac (10.4) and I can't connect via video chat with them.
I've had this problem in the past and eventually gave up (so much for "it just works" - I've spent the last 10+ years dealing with Macs and Mac-based networking, I can't imagine "my dad" figuring this all out). Trying again with fingers crossed...?
If someone could help, it'd be much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Kristin.
The studio router/firewall is a SonicWall TZ 170 Standard.
This router has a static IP.
All suggested ports on the SonicWall are set up correctly to allow in/out from our LAN.
All computers on the LAN have static IP addresses.
Quicktime streaming settings set as suggested.
OS X Firewall on all computers = OFF.
No iChat add-ons on any computers.
    Internet connection speed = 7404 kb/s
    The offside router/firewall is a LinkSys WRT54G
This router does not have a static IP.
DMZ is ON and set to the only computer connected to it.
Computer has a static IP address.
Quicktime streaming settings set as suggested.
OS X Firewall on all computers = OFF.
    No iChat add-ons on computer.
    Internet connection speed = 5116 kb/s
If any more information is required to help you help me, just let me know!

Does the TZ170 have UPnP or Port Triggering then ?
I can not see that it does here
Opening the ports in the manner listed on that link will only allow one computer (IP) to use the open ports.
The Linksys is router and you have not mentioned what the modem is doing at that end.
Why not use UPnP here ? The Linksys does it (on the Administration page)
Most likely this needs the Respond to Anonymous Pings checked on the Security page.

  • How can I get Activity Monitor to work?

I've searched the discussions to no avail, so I have this question: how can I get Activity Monitor to work? It launches and its window opens but then the spinning beachball appears. I've checked the Console and it shows that the Activity Monitor is attempting to fully launch but then it "exits" and then it tries to fully start up again, goes into an infinite loop or something. Issued a "force quit" succesfully. I've deleted the Activity Monitor's .plist, no joy. What to do? Thanks!
    I'm running 10.6.8 on a MacBook Pro (late 2011)

I wish I could be more positive but I have no experience of MacBook Pros and whether their demands on the system differ from my simple iMac.   If you have the time to scour through 'More like this' ( to the right of your initial post) and the links within it, you may find leads.
I also found this thread via Google which in parts seems to echo your troubles.  I hope it helps; thank you for the star.

  • Can't get two monitors to work on my G4 533 Dual

    Hello,
Does anyone know how I can get 2 monitors to work on my G4 533Dual. if I plug them both in at the same time the clear monitor goes out (Apple Studio Disply 17 inch transparent monitor). If I plug it in first then add the 17inch Apple ColorSync display the Studio display wont work. I have restarted and tried all different things the ports all work as do the monitors just not at the same time. I want to be able to see different things on both monitors. I also have a 733 with the same GeForce2 MX card so swaping them wont help. Can anyone tell me what I need. thanks.

The other monitor is the 17 inch apple studio display (transparent)
    Thanks

If you can find a used one. That is the only dual card Apple was selling at the time. There a other choices now, from adding a PCI card, to replacing your current card with a dual. I'm not sure of the AGP speed of your machine, so can't recommend a specific card, but when you do buy one, insist on a money back guarantee that it will work with your machine. Some cards don't work with all the machines the claim to be compatible with.

  • Can't get external monitor to work

I've used a Mac laptop for the last 8 years, finally decided to get an external monitor for home use.
I purchased a 25" Hanns-G HZ251. It's not working as I would expect it to work. I've got a standard DVI connection on my older MacBook Pro so I'm connecting via a DVI to DVI cable.
The only way I can get the monitor to display what is actually on my laptop is to have my laptop open and mirroring turned on. I thought I could have my laptop shut and the monitor would still work when connected, but when I shut my laptop it just goes black.
If I leave my laptop open but turn mirroring off, I get the generic purple Mac desktop, not my desktop.
    What am I doing wrong?
There's an install CD that comes with it, but that only runs on a Windows machine. I appreciate any advice, I'm fairly technically handy but this is my first foray into using external monitors, so I'm definitely struggling to figure this out. Thanks.

Yes, it's connected to the power adaptor and I have an external trackball and keyboard.
You will have to keep them both open and play around with monitor settings until you get them both working. Keep doing "Gather windows" in System Preferences to get the display preferences window for the 2nd monitor and change it each time it doesn't display anything.
I don't know what it means "you will have to set it".
You have to set the desktop for the additional screen. Once you get closed clamshell to work, the external monitor will be your primary screen and you won't have to worry about it.

  • Can't Get Dual Monitors to Work

My main monitor is connected via DVI and my second monitor is using a VGA cable.  I've tried just about everything and can't get the 2nd monitor to display.
When using AMD Catalyst Control Center, the "Detect Displays" section can only find my main monitor.
When using Window's "Screen Resolution" settings, the 2nd monitor is found, but it will not allow me to set it to "Extend these displays" in the Multiple Displays dropdown.  The only option that works is "Show desktop on on 1", which ofcourse, only allows me to use the main monitor.  I've attached a screenshot below.
Please help!  I bought this computer because it allowed for 1-3 monitors and if I can't even get 2 working,  I'll have to return it.
    Thanks!

The video card has 2 ports and both monitors will work in their port but if I plug them both in at the same time the clear monitor goes out. If I plug it in first then add the older one the older one wont work. I have restarted and tried all different things the ports all work as do the monitors just not at the same time. Powermac G4 533 Dual   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

    Hi Sarkis,
I note that this is now the subject of another thread that you started - it's better to stick with one thread per subject otherwise there's "double handling" involved in answering your issue.
For what it's worth, the older (none core image) cards that will do extended desktop are:
    Mac Radeon ATI 8500
    Mac Radeon ATI 9000
    Mac GeForce4 Ti
As a rule of thumb, a card with 64 mB or more will generally be able to do extended desktops.
If you want core image support, then any card later than the ATI Radeon 9600 will do, with the ATI 9800 probably being the card of choice.
This has been posted your other thread as well.
    Cheers!

  • Can't get video iChat to work at all

I have never been able to get the video going with another person. My built-in web cam works just fine on Yahoo!Messenger, but I can't get it started on iChat/AIM. The "invite to video chat" is not highlighted even though my buddy has his camera on and it works. There's no camera icon next to his name.
What am I not doing/doing wrong? The text chat works great.

For the No Sound issue try Repairing Permissions.
Also run the Cron scripts Cocktail or MacJanitor will do this. (it is in fact all MacJanitor does and it is Free)
This may help sort the camera issue.

  • I can not get my monitor to work!

Hello everyone. I have a first gen MacBook Pro 1.8 GHz with ATi graphics X1600. I can not get my external monitor to work. I have updated the drivers and installed the ATI catalyst control to no success. When I plug my monitor in, my laptop display immediately becomes monitor #2 and the external monitor will not wake up. I can not bring up any preferences or anything because everything is on the sleeping monitor. I have searched but haven't found a lot, maybe i'm just bad at searching which is possible. This is driving me nuts! Any help would be greatly appreciated!

  • Can't get 2nd Monitor to Work

I have a MacBook Pro 2.16 Core Duo. I also have a Dell LCD display, about 3 years old. I can connect the Dell monitor with a DVI cable, but the MacBook doesn't sense it.
My only clue is that on the MacBook, there are four pins right by the horizontal "blade" pin in the DVI output, but the Dell monitor, which is also DVI, does not have inputs for those four pins. I notice that some DVI cables have those four pins, and some don't.
    Help!

Thanks for the help. I now understand DVI better, but that didn't solve teh issue.
I took my Mac and Dell monitor to the genius bar today. They confirmed that my Mac external port supports other monitors, but not this one. We plugged another Mac into the monitor and still nothing. SO either the Dell LCD monitor is not compatible with Mac, or there is some keystroke that must be made to sense the Dell that I haven't figured out. Was on the phone with Dell also - they suggested command-F2, but that didn't do anything.

  • Just can't get video chat to work

I've poked around here and have seen a lot of similar problems, yet I can't find any commonality between my problem and others, so I'm posting here with hope of getting some help.
Essentially, I can't video chat, either by initiating the session or answering an invite to join a video session.
I'm running iChat 3 on my Intel iMac with a DSL connection. I'm using the Apple Airport Extreme to connect to my DSL connection wirelessly.
When I try to initiate a session, I get the endless msg. about waiting for the other person to answer. They try, and the connection fails. If they try to call me up, I hear the ring and attempt to answer but then get an error message (details below) saying there was a connection problem.
I cant text chat via iChat easily and successfully.
I recently was an AOL customer but changed to BellSouth DSL and changed my iChat settings to reflect my .mac membership.

    As with what Steve said.
Open the Airport or rather access it with the Airport Utility in Applications/Utilities.
This will take you to a set of panes similar to the Network ones in System Preferences. (These though are on the Airport or at least will effect the settings their if you change anything).
You can then go through the iCons and tabs.
At the one that says Internet http://flickr.com/photos/90943061@N00/2043616510/ you should get a pic like the link. This one was connected to a cable modem that was passing the Public IP is it is Blanked out.
If, where you can see the 75 popping out you have a number starting 10. or 192. or 172. can you tell us what the whole number is as the modem will be giving Out IPs in some form.
At the Bottom you can see it is set to Share an IP.
This will mean it is doing DHCP to your LAN.
In the DHCP tab you can change the IP range it uses http://flickr.com/photos/90943061@N00/2124806599/
Tells what it says here as well please

  • Can't get video drivers to work

I've used the same method to install Arch Linux since Windows 8 was released and it has worked perfectly in all that time. This is the method:
    http://www.neuraladvance.com/dual-booti … g-lvm.html
    http://www.neuraladvance.com/installing … linux.html
Now when I try and install Arch along with XFCE 4.10 I get a blank screen when SLiM is meant to run and I can't see anything else. I've tried both the open source ATI drivers as well as the catalyst drivers and nothing seems to make a difference. I'd really like to be able to get my Arch Linux system up and running again.
Does anyone have any hints about what steps may be missing from the above two articles? I'm using the latest install media which was released yesterday but nothing I have tried has helped.

    Hi,
it is something that is mentioned many times already, but the best way to install Arch is to use only the Beginners Guide.
The pages you linked to are -in relation to the present installation-very much outdated (november and december 2012).
Arch has changed during that time, so has the Beginners Guide/Installation Guide. The best hint I can give you is to check
your install method against the present Beginners Guide and related wiki pages, and (sorry if this may come across rude)
never use that method again in the future, to avoid these kind of problems.
EDIT: and missed the above posts......
Well I certainly re-read the official documentation and update the posts as required. The thing is the installation instructions in those posts does work. X simple stopped being able to boot about a month ago because all it showeed was a blank screen and the cursor. It never actually went on to display the desktop. This is really the problem I am trying to resolve. I find it hard to believe that no-one else who has an AMD graphics has not had similar problems yet I see very little information on the subject in the forums or on the wiki.

  • Can't get video calls to work

I just purchased 2 kindle fire tablets.  Why can't we get the video skype to function.  Only calls can be made and they don't always connect.  Do we have to buy time for video calls?.  Nowhere does it say what to do to make these calls.

We only support video calling on the Kindle Fire HD currently. Do you have the newest HD version?
