Can't import cds

Help! In itunes, when i put a cd in the drive, the artist and song titles come up, but when i press import nothing happens. If i try to stop the "import" or close itunes i am greeted with the spinning wheel of doom and are forced to quit.
I've tried unauthorising the computer, repaired disk permissions (which did work, once but is it usual to repair the permissions between each cd) and generally trying repeatedly to get it to work.
can anyone suggest anything else I can try?

Progress but not an answer.
I determined that the drive still read previously ripped CDs including the afore mentions Kate Bush CDs. It still reads previously burnt CDs. It still read commercial DVDs (previosuly read and unread).
1. I did not have a folder in System/Library/Caches called "com.apple.kernelcaches".
2. I could not trash the file "extensions.kextcache". I got the message "operation could not be completed because this item is owned by root."
3. I had two files in Home/Library/Preferences, CDinfo.cidb and CDinfo 1.cidb. I could only trash the first one, even after closing iTunes. This file had a modification date of 12/18/05, after the problem appeared. The other file CDinfo 1.cidb file had a 2004 modification date.
When I reopened iTunes and inserted a previously unread CD, it was now recognized, but the tracks were not identified. (iTunes was not communicating with the Gracenote CDDB.)
This still suggests to me the presence of malware. The first CD that I could not read was Cecilia Bartoli's "Opera Prohibita" on Decca.
Thanks for your suggestions, Dave

  • Can't import CDs to network volume....permissions

I have iTunes 11 and can't import any CDs to my iTunes library folder which is stored on my NAS.   The library is at /volumes/media/music.   iTunes complains that it can't write to this folder, but I can navigate there using shell from my Mac and can create files and folders as my normal user.  Any ideas?

I have found the solution!!! If you are not on the latest version of itunes it appears that is the problem.
In iTunes, go "Help > About iTunes" and wait for the version number to scroll up from the bottom of the screen. Do you have a 10.1.0.54 or a 10.1.0.56 ?
If you only have a 10.1.0.54, you need to update to 10.1.0.56. If you already have 10.1.0.54 installed, the new version probably won't appear for you in Apple Software Update. So you'll need to get the 10.1.0.56 installer from the Apple Website as per the following link:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
It is listed as iTunes 10.1 for Windows (64-bit).
It worked for me. Hopefully you will be successful too. Good Luck.

  • How can I import CDs and mp3s from my externals device to Itunes?

    Hello,
I have got a real problem with ITunes. It does not import any data neither from CDs nor externals drives (mp3-drive). It is nearly impossible to do so because I haven't got the access rights. Thank you for your help.
    Mathias

If you use iPhoto you can put your iPhoto Library on an external disk.
If you don't, use Image Capture (in your Applications Folder) to get the material from your camera or phone to wherever you want to put it.
    To move an iPhoto Library
Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
    1. Quit iPhoto
    2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
    3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
    4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.
    Regards
    TD

  • Can't import CDs into iTunes

This is a repeat of a problem that I reported back in Oct, but never got any solution. When I first installed iTunes on this computer I was able to copy a CD into iTunes with no problem. Since that time I haven't been able to copy another CD. I uninstalled iTunes and Quicktime, then installed the latest versions with no change in performance.
I really would like to change the tunes on my iPod before it wears out.

  • Help please! can't import CDs, Itunes stops working and shuts down:(

Hi All, Itunes worked fine up until couple of days ago and now when I insert a CD to import it recognises the CD but when it starts importing, itunes stops working and shuts down immediately. What do I need to do? I read the discussions but couldn't find an answer, most questions were about burning a CD so your help will be highly appreciated...many thanks indeed

Itunes worked fine up until couple of days ago and now when I insert a CD to import it recognises the CD but when it starts importing, itunes stops working and shuts down immediately.
First we need to check your precise version number, elektra. In iTunes go "Help > About iTunes" and wait for the version number to scroll up from the bottom of the screen.
Do you see *iTunes 10.1.0.54* ? If so, we need to update you to version 10.1.0.56 . It probably wont appear for you in Apple Software Update if you already have a 10.1.0.54 already installed, so you'll need to download the installer from the Apple Website, as per the following document:
[iTunes 10.1 for Windows: iTunes may stop working and need to quit while importing or syncing audio|http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3591]

  • Can't import CDs into 7.6.2. because of lack of disk space

I just installed iTunes 7.6.2 this morning. I was able to import one CD. I started to import another. After half the tracks were imported, I got an error message saying that disk I was using was full and that I should delete some files and empty my recycle bin. I store my iTunes on my hard drive and my hard drive isn't close to full. I ripped the remaining tracks using Windows media player figuring that I could just add the files to my iTunes afterwards. When I try to add one of the tracks to iTunes, I got the same error message. I'm not sure why. Is anyone else having this issue?

I figured it out. I went to preferences then advanced and saw that the location for my iTunes was a flash drive which was full rather than my hard drive.

  • Latest version of itunes can't log in or import CDS

I just upgraded to the latest version of itunes...what a NIGHTMARE!
I can't log into my apple account the store anymore, nor can I import CDs.  When logging in I supply my info and submit to log in, and it does nothing.  When trying to import a CD I get the popup for importing and click OK. and it does nothing.
    HELP!

Apparently, security programs like Macafee and Norton view Itunes updates as new programs and block then from access. If you add Itunes to the list of exemptions, it solves the problem.

  • Having problems importing CDs into itunes10

i have recently noticed that my imac is very reluctant to import CDs into itunes10 - as well as letting me burn data to CDs/DVDs.
sometimes it will let me burn a CD into itunes, but it will be very slow (used to be around x20 speed) and there will be 'clunking' sounds coming from the drive.
sometimes if it does appear to have imported a whole CD, the tracks have a length of 0:00!
is this a faulty drive, due to my imac being a fair few years old (i would hope that apple make their drives last a little longer than just a few years) - or just some kind of bug that needs fixing?
i would really appreciate if anyone could help me out - as i'm not keen on taking my imac in for repair!

    Abstractman23 wrote:

Good question.   If you do find that the drive is bad, you may want to call ahead to Apple and get an idea what a 1 for 1 replacement would cost.
External CD drives that connect via USB are relatively inexpensive, but leave you with more wires and junk on your table.
