Can't import FCPX Titel in Motion 5

Hello. I can not import the Final Cut Pro X Titel in Motion 5?!
The "Error Message" is: This file can not open'd because it is made with a newer version of motion. You need Motion 5.5.
There is only Motion 5.0.1 on my mac and the App Store say, that this is the newest one.
Can anyone help me with this? Thanks a lot for answear.

For starters, the current version of Motion available on the app store is 5.1. There is no version 5.5. If you are running 5.0.1, you're several years out of date. You should be seing the update availale in the app store, if you are not, you may want to review this: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4057?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US

How can I import an image without Motion 5 changing its proportions?

I have an image that's intentionally larger than the canvas size (1080x1920) in Motion 5. Every time I import it or drag it to the timeline, Motion automatically squeezes the image to fit the canvas proportions. I know I can go and adjust the width of the image to get it back closer to its correct proportions, but I'm going to be importing multiple images like this will add a ton of extra (and non-precise) work.
Is there a setting to change this?

I've tried that. The properties show that it is at 100%, and I have to stretch it out further than 100% in order for the proportions to look normal again. I've also selected "Do Nothing" in Preferences and it doesn't make a difference. It seems that option is for scaling images that are larger than the project pixel dimensions, but it still squishes my imported images.
Since this was a relatively simple animation, I just did the scene in Final Cut and then brought it back into my Motion project as a Quicktime movie. I would think such a workaround shouldn't be necessary though.

Can't open fcpx transition in motion 5

Hi guys,
I want to adjust a Final Cut Pro X transition in Motion 5 (the Swap transition) but when I ctrl-click on it, it doesn't give me the option to open in Motion while some other transitions do.
Is this a bug and does anyone know a workaround? Rebuilding the transition in motion would cost me a lot of time.

Not all of the built-in templates can be modified. Some are built in part with the FX Plug coding language. Those can not be modified in Motion 5. Althoug Swap seems pretty simple. But still, not all built-in tempaltes can be opened in Motion 5. Not a bug.
That specific transition would actually be really easy to build from scratch. What did you want to change about it? I may know of someone who'd done that already.

Can't import FCPX xml file to Logic Pro

I'm using the trial of Final Cut Pro X to give it a go.
I export a test project as XML so I could try to import it into Logic Pro (latest version). Export seems to work fine. When I go to Logic to import the test.fcpxml file, it is grayed out and won't let me select it.
Not sure if this is a FC problem, or if Apple needs to release an update for Logic to be compatible with FCPX.
Any insight?

I can´t import to motion

Hello:
Since a couple of days ago I´m not able to import any sort of media to motion from my internal disks. When I´ve tried the colour wheel appears and I need to force quit.
I´ve trash my preferences,repair permissions and sbin/fsck and also reinstall .Anyone knows why?

Importing MPEG1 files into Motion?!

Hi,
it seems that I can't import MPEG1 files into motion even if they play perfectly well in QT player, hence are perfectly supported by Quicktime. Any help on that?

They are played from QuickTime, but they are not an editable format. To convert it, try MPEG Streamclip to convert it to DV and use that...

Can't open quicktime movie that I exported from Motion 5 and can't import to FCP 7.
I exported (with current settings) from Motion 5 now i can't view my movie with QT Player an FCP
won't recognize it.
That's the message I get ?
I'm running Mac OSX but still on FCP 7 (upgrading to FCP X is NOT an option)

FCPX File Formats that can be Imported

Can someone please tell me what video file formats can be imported into FCPX? I am making a video of footage from many different sources and I need to know if I should convert them first or if FCPX will accept them as they are. For example, flv, mov, etc.

Audio formats
AAC
MP3
MP4
Container formats
3GP
AVI
MP4
These shouldn't be here. You can get away with the compressed audio formats in some circumstances, but will causes problems in other. They also cause major problems when imbedded in video. The video formats work if the media is optimized, which is like saying it's converted. The problem with 3GP and MP4 is that even if they're optimized they don't work well as the usually have compressed audio, which optimizing won't fix.

I can't import MXF files shot on a Canon C300 into FCP 10.1.2. I have the Canon plug in for MXF file to FCP import but FCPX still doesn't recognize MXF files when I try to import. Premiere works fine importing MXF on the same computer.

I did uninstall and re-install Canon XF Utility and the Canon FCPX plug in. Still no luck. I checked the CanonXF64.RADPlug folder is on my computer in the Rad Plugins folder in application support This is where it is supposed to be as far as I can figure out.
Another piece of the puzzle is that footage shot on a Canon C300 in 2013 and I reimported today and it DOES import into FCP10.1.3. Footage shot on a different Canon C300 filmed this summer will NOT import into FCPX. The latter will import into Premiere. But I am trying to work in FCPX, but maybe I shouldn’t be??
Any ideas? (screen shots below)

FYI Here is what Canon says
"There is another trick that works sometimes though. Try uninstalling the plugin and XF Utility. Then, install the latest XF Utility, followed by the plugin, in that order."
I did do this but no results. Otherwise they say I need to wait for a new plugin.

Here's 2013 Canon C300 files does import into FCPX. I thought it was Contents folder but another set of footage shot on C300 does import and there is no contents folder for that.

Premiere CC can't import Apple Motion files after clean install

Got a new SSD so I decided to do a spankin new install of everything except Final Cut Pro legacy (which I thought I could finally do without). Only snag has been that Premiere CC can't import my Apple Motion projects (version 3) and I can't encode ProRes anymore. Rather than do a lengthy install of the whole Final Cut Studio I just decided to purchase Motion 5 and thought all the functionality would come back. Nope. Premiere's browser won't even display .motn files and if I try to "import" them they are greyed out.
So now I'm stumped. Do I need to install Motion first and then Premiere CC?

I don't believe Motion 5 projects are supported. Motion 4, or earlier, as I understand it. You can install FCP to get the ProRes codecs back.

How can I set FCPX to import my footage as Pro Res 422?

I am having difficulty getting nice clean chroma keys due to the fact that all my footage is being imported with the H.264 codecs. I have the project properties to render as Pro Res 422, but that as I understand it, will only change my footage for the final output.
I tried to find a place in the Properties->Import to see if I can tell FCPX 10.0.8 to import the footage at a higher quality so that the keyeing effect creates better masks. Where can I set FCPX to import my footage as ProRes 422?
I would greatly appreciate anyone's input as I have been trying to figure it out and am at a complete loss at this point.

I do always check the optimize media box, but still have a hard time smoothing out jagged edges on greenscreen footage. I assumed it was because the keyer was being applied to H.264 footage instead of ProRes 422 footage.
Which codecs is the effect being applied to if I drag it onto the clip in my timeline? I am doing playback with optimized media if that makes a difference. It is quite possible I confused myself.

MPEG-4 isn't nearly enough information. There are many other factors that determine whether it will work in FCP. Many MPEG-4 files can be imported and optimized directly into the application.

I shoot fishing footage of big catches. Slow motion playback appears to me to be much better when shot it 60p even compared to 60i. It also blows away all of the other formats for a "still" grab. Thank you for your help as I did a search and downloaded Clip Wrap which converted the files to .mov and they actually do import the full 60 frames. Thank you again for your reply.

I have been sent ten .mov video files which i can open it in quick time but can't import into imovie 09
I have tried to re-save in quick time but didn't make any difference, the files are still not able to import, also the person who sent them labeled the files with a / in the name I changed this but still made no difference,
the properties are
H.264, 320 x 240, Millions
AAC, 2 channels, 32000 Hz
FPS: 12
data size: 474 KB
data rate: 198.26 kbit/s
current size - 478 x 359 pixels
I want to be able to import them all into imovie 09 so I can edit them and join together, can you recommend a reliable free software that I can do this.
Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thanks so much for the great advice, I downloaded mpeg streamclip and I have been playing around with converting my video.
There are many different options and I have tried a few but the quality of the picture is slightly pixelated. Can you advise me about the best option to use to get the best quality picture.
I want to be able to edit it in imovie, so I was exporting it to quicktime but there are many other options which would you recommend?
When I exported it to quicktime I tried the following options
I have tried compression -
Apple motion jpeg A
png - sound played but picture was frozen and didn't play
Tiff - same thing as png
but there is an endless list and I'm not sure what it all means.
There are also many different frame sizes, I use (4:3) in imovie but it also had a 320 x 240 unscaled I'm not sure what this means?
Are there any other options/boxes I should be altering/checking?
Sorry for asking so many questions.
I'm not really very familiar with all these terms, it's a completely new language to me.
Any advice would be really appreciated
