  • Can't import Media into FCP X

In the last week or two when I try to import media into FCP X I end up with a very dark and locked import screen.  The only way I can recover is to force quit FCP X.  It doesn't always happen but it is getting more and more frequent.
I have not updated to Marverik and I'm running the latest version of FCP X on the same iMac I have used since installation.
Any suggestions beacuse it really is starting to beome very, very frustrating.
    Thanks

They system is hanging up, waiting on some command to finish, which is not able to.  So let's look at ways to fix this.  Becasue you never want to do an upgrade to fix problems.  Only upgrade a proerly working system.  Otherwise, you may just be hauling old problems into a new envoronment, and making things worse.  I've seen it a lot over the years.
First, verify that all of your drives have at least 15% of their total capacity as free space.  Not enough free space on any dirve can cause similar odd behaviors.
Second, you need to do some housee cleaning.  Start by downloading and running the free application "Preference Manager" from Digital Rebellion (dot com).  Use it to trash the FCPX preference files.  It is easy and safe to you.  None of your media or projects will be touched.  After that, run Disk Utility to "Repair" all of your drives (ignore "Verify", total waste of time).
If none of that helps, I'd recommand you download the free application "FCS Remover" from Digital Rebellion.  Use it to uninstall FCPX.  Some folks say to just move the app from the Applications folder to the Trash.  That leaves a bunch of other files hanging around that could be bad.  Use this app.  Once you've uninstalled FCPX, launch the App Store, go to the Purchases section, and FCPX will have an "Install" button.  Reinstall a fresh copy, see if that helps.

  • Import .m2t into FCP directly? Without MPEG Streamclip?

So right now FCP will not import .m2t clips directly?
Could Apple consider putting this on their "to-do" list? Because we had the option of switching from PC (Vegas) to Mac (FCP) about 1 year ago, I looked at the MPEG Streamclip solution, and I pegged it as too much of a hassle.
We have about 2 TB of video data stored on portable NTSC drives, and we'll like to access any of it in future FCP projects. Conversion (even if its lossless) is a big issue.
Are there any plug-ins which would allow FCP to recognize this format, so we don't have to convert everything? Everything else (read-only NTSC support), sharing video across high-speed networks and buying Mac hardware is not a problem.
Apple! We would have switched a year ago if not for this! Am I missing an obvious solution?
    Thank you,
    -Gord

I was extremely happy to find it, and we were able then to try using FCE on some footage. I'm not dissing MPEG Streamclip. But this is something I expect would be a lot of value to people working in mixed environments.
Its not just our backlog of media, and our current projects expecting .m2t source files. It looks like we'd have to halt all capturing on PCs because their software captures to .m2t files. Instead of a smooth migration with new projects we'd have to spend a fortune on Macs, instead of growing our way into FCP.
Is it possible to capture HDV to QuickTime on a PC? Thanks for your comment.

  • Can't import DVCAM into FCP

I am testing a camera to use Tuesday, it's a Sony HVR V1U HD/DVCAM camera. I shot some ftg in DVCAM mode to transfer to FCP3 and FCP3 does not recognize the footage at all, nothing is coming thru. Tried the tape in my old Sony camcorder and it would not register at all on the old camera.
I followed instructions, but can't quite understand why the footage is neither recognized or exported to FCP3

DVCAM is the same thing as miniDV to FCP in all versions, but the actual recording tape is metal, and the track widths for the video track as recorded on the tape is wider, but it's DV-25 none the less, so it really should work OK with FCP 3.... Did for me for many years using a DSR-11 with FCP 1 even.
That said, it's likely a device protocol problem or something along those lines...
Seems to me that you'd control that camera with HDV device control settings and capture as DV NTSC... but FCP 3 doesn't have those device controls. FCP 5.1 or later has them. But might not... if not it FCP should be set to Firewire.
I'll bet ya that if you put the DVCAM tape in a DVCAM machine using FW 400 like a DSR-11 it will work as long as it really is a DV recording and not an HDV recording... Might even work if it is played back from a MiniDV camera. If it doesn't, then I'll bet you didn't really record DV, but you recorded HDV. Doesn't the camera show the playback format onscreen during playback? Does it say DV NTSC?

  • Import clips into FCP X version 10.0.8 and keep the original clip names

Can you Import clips into FCP X version 10.0.8 and keep the original clip names in the event original media folder? in version 10.0.8 it automatically allocates date / time of the event. I need it to keep the original clip name i:e Clip0100 event folder original media Clip0100. I am aware you can change the clip name to original once in FCP X, But it's the event folder original media name which I want to remain as the original file name.

    Hi Tom,
    Thanks for the response.
I am aware you can do this change in the Info inspector so the original clip name from camera is used in the event library browser, but it does not change the clip name in the Final Cut Events Original Mieda file. This still remains as an event clip name "2013-05-23 17_08_13". I need the original clip name Clip0100 to remain as Clip0100 at import. FCP X doesn't seem to allow this happen any more in version 10.0.8.

  • Can't import anything into Final Cut 7.0.3

I just recently updated my OS to Snow Leopard (10.6.7) along with Final Cut Pro 7.0.3. and now for some reason Final Cut does not recognize anything, video, audio, stills, nothing. I've found a workaround for video files, save as itself in Quicktime. But I still can't import. I always get this message.
    "File error:1 file(s) recognized, 0 access denied, 1 unknown "
I've found that a few pople on Creative Cow are having the same issue but, there is still fix. I've trashed preferences, flashed pram, even did a hard re-install. My job depends on FC working properly. Does anyone have a fix for this.

Its an was update from an earlier version.
    What earlier version?
And you're saying when you using File>Import>File and select a JPEG you get the error message?
You can't or shouldn't import MP3s into FCP.
Have you try creating a new porject and importing into that?

  • Importing Flash into FCP

I have Flash Pro 8 and FCP Pro HD and am still trying to learn both.
Can I create a piece in Flash and import it into FCP? If I need to upgrade FCP, I will - I just need to know if it's possible, and how to do it.
    thanks a lot.
    j.

On a related question, I have a number of flash animations for a client, a comic, and the movie is in 5 parts...I have the latest version of FCP and of Flash, and I am having a lot of problems exporting to quicktime and importing to FCP. I have tried export movie>quicktime and quicktime movie, with a variety of codecs (animation, motion graphics, DV), and every time some tweens(individual) are dropped, and some sounds from the flash movie. There must be a way to just clone what I can see in my swf into FCP? If anyone knows how, please help.
(and please, dont tell me to learn the apps as I have a professional level knowledge of both.)

  • Aspect ratio importing DV into FCP X

Can someone explain how DV format works (I think I understand this) and how importing DV into FCP X works (I definitely don't understand).
I have some old PAL DV files which I want to compress using Compressor, with the aim of later importing them into FCP X. I can compress them in one of two ways: compressing to 720x576 with the standard PAL aspect ratio, so they appear (eg. in QuickTime Player) as 768x576. Let's call this 'Old Style'. Or, I can compress them so they have square pixels, and genuinely are at 768x576. ('Square pixels').
Both display using QTP7 as 768x576, but Square Pixels is compressed slightly so there is more of the picture visible at left and right of the screen. Objects in the image are therefore thinner left-to-right than in Old Style.
Now, if I import them into FCP X, in the event browser Square Pixels still displays as 768x576 and looks just as it does in QTP. But Old Style is now wider than 768x576 and has the extra bit of picture that Square Pixels displays. So they're both displaying the same image, but Square Pixels has it compressed to fit into 768x576, whereas Old Style has it wider, and consequently people are fatter left-to-right.
When I import these events into a project, things change again. Old Style appears exactly as it does in the event browser (ie. about 786x576, with the whole image displayed). Square Pixels stretches the image north-south, and this means that part of the top and bottom of the image are chopped off.
What is going on? Is there a website which can explain this clearly? Which is the better format for me to compress my video into?
    Cheers,
    Martin S Taylor
    FCP X 10.1.2
    Compressor 4.1.2

    I don't understand your question?
DV footage on DV or mini-DV tapes is  already digitised  .  .  .  .  hence the name DV or Digital Video.
If you have a DV camera or deck you can plug it into your Mac via FireWire and import the footage straight into FCP X.

  • Imported clips into FCP 10.1.3 contain no audio in Yosemite...

I am running FCP 10.1.3 on a mid 2012 15" MBP Retina with the following specs...
    2.7 GHz Intel Core i7
    16GB 1600 MHz DDR3
NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M 1024 MB
Ever since I updated to the public beta of Yosemite, when I import clips into FCP X I get the clip but my audio is no longer attached. I assumed this was an issue with the beta and that it would be resolved in the actual release but alas, that is not the case. Does anybody have any experience with this or could anyone point me in a direction. Much appreciated.

Here is the requested screen shot. In the events list, you will see the clips have no waveforms. In the inspector, you can see that Audio is not even an option and in the Project Timeline, you will see that there is no Waveform present. This clip has audio attached. The source media is irrelevant as this happens with screen capture clips or with clips I've shot with 3 different cameras. If I check the source file, in finder or in the camera the audio is present. This only started happening when I upgraded to Yosemite.

  • Importing TIFF into FCP project

    Hi everybody,
I am importing Tiff into a FCP project.
I have all my clips listed in the order they were shot to go into the FCP project.
If I select more than one at a time to import within FCP, the Tiff are put in any order.
Would anyone know if there any way to import more than one TIFF at a time in such a way they appear in FCP in the order they were created ?
    Thanks in advance
    Bernard

The numbering works, just keep in mind - as Jim noted earlier - you must have the same number of digits in each name. Sequences of less than 99 should use 2 digits (01-99), over 100 but less than 999 = 3 digits (001-999) , over 999 but less than 9999= 4 digits (0001-9999) and so on.
Why is this? Try this experiment, name a series of files in the sequence of 1,2,5,11, 21,101 When you import that into FCP, it will be ordered: 1,11,101,2,21,5.
However, if you name them 001, 002, 005, 011, 021, 101 they will order themselves as you would expect.
I don't know how you are acquiring the images, but some scanning software allows you set up a common name + sequence number and automatically increment it after each scan. This can be a great timesaver.
    have fun.

  • I can not import photos into lightroom 4.4  Had no problem before this time.

I can not import photos into lightroom 4.4  Had no problem before this time.  I have camera raw7.4 and use a NikonD7100.  I have a Mac using 10.6.8.  I can see the images and selected for import in Lightroom, but after I check "import" I get a message that Lightroom could not read the files.  This happens with both raw and jpeg files.  Thanks for a repl

thanks for the reply. would you please tell me how to check for the folder to have write permission.  I have done the same settings as before but this time does not transfer.  It says can not read files with a code "298".  I can see the thumbnails on the screen prior to trying to import the photos, also can see them with the card in the camera and using the view mode.  I have up to date camera raw 7.4 for my Nikon D7100 and the settings allow for 7.1 and above

You can do this with a free app called MPEG Streamclip and a $20 quicktime component from Apple.

Possibly. Media Go supports a variety of music formats, some of which can be imported in to iTunes and then synced on to an iPhone, however some of its formats cannot be imported in to iTunes.
See http://mediago.sony.com/enu/supported-file-formats/ for a list of formats supported by Media Go. iTunes for Windows supports MP3, AAC, WAV, and can import and convert WMA files as well. However iTunes does not support ATRAC, or FLAC.
Furthermore, if some of your music has been bought from an Internet music store it might be procted by DRM. If so it cannot be imported in to iTunes.
To do the importing you would either drag the music files in to iTunes, or tell iTunes to open them. See http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1347

Maybe try one of the WiFi transfer Apps?  There are several to choose from. I use Photosynch quite often to send photos and videos between my computer(s), my iPhone, and iPad.
