Can't import ref movie into FCP

Can't figure this one out. If I export either a QT reference movie or self-contained movie out of FCP, I cannot import it back in. I get a file error message access denied. What gives?
Thanks,
Tom

You can search here for ACCESS DENIED, we see the topic often.
Most likely is that you are saving it to drive or folder to which you do not have adequate privileges. I don't think we've ever figured it out.

  • How can I import a movie into iMovie 09 from a hard drive?  The movie will open and play in idvd but breaks into separate files that can't be downloaded when I try to import.  Can it be done?

How can I import a movie into iMovie 09 from a hard drive?  The movie will open and play in idvd but breaks into separate files that can't be downloaded when I try to import.  Can it be done? I am trying to create a disc of player highlights for a collegiate coach, and I am using movie files downloaded to my hard drive from a DVD created on a PC.

No unfortunately it won't open in quicktime either.  It does the same thing that Imovie does, separates it into two file folders audio and video, and if i select video it opens to reveal 8 files that cannot be selected.  VIDEO_TS.BUP, VIDEO_TS.IFO, VIDEO_TS.VOB,VTS_01_0.BUP, VTS_01_0.IFO, VTS_01_1.VOB, VTS_01_2.VB, VTS_01_3.VOB.  All of which cannot be opened or selected.
Opening it in Idvd and folllowing your suggestion works and I get a format code of NTSC.  Is that the same?  Thank you for your time and response.

  • How to import Powerpoint movie into FCP

I have a powerpoint slideshow from a client and am needing to import it into FCP. In PPT I saved it as "Make Movie", and sought to import as .mov into FCP. When i try to open it, I get error , message, "Out of Memory." I have 27 GB of memory on the main drive, and the file is only 49MB. Any help would be appreciated.

First find a sharp object, then look for the soft spot on the inside of your wrist...
    or if you must,
Export each slide as a still file and rework them in Motion. You probably need to set them on a background because NO ONE EVER build powerpoint for text safe in video.

  • I can't import from Itunes into FCP HD

got the capture done with bears hand NOW i can't get audio tune from Itunes to import it says can't recognize file or something like that.
    I have a powerbook G4 10.4.9 FCP HD 4.5
is this another case of the 10.4.9 and 4.5 being incompatable (the reason i can't capture from DVCPro)
If my motorcycles ran like this tuff I'd never get out of the garage! thanks for your help in advance. bRAD

It is songs purchased from iTunes that you cannot convert...and that we cannot explain how to convert. Even though YOU might use it for legal purposes, such as temp music or demo reels, we still cannot explain how to bypass DRM on Apple's own site. Doing so would violate their rules.
BUT...if you have a CD of the music, getting songs is much easier:
#5 Imported music from CD or iTunes
    Shane's Stock Answer #5:
To get music into FCP, it needs to be an AIFF file at 48khz, 16 bit stereo. So if you want a song from a CD, you go into the iTunes Preferences and set this up under the IMPORTING tab:
File > preferences > importing > import using - AIFF encoder > Setting - Custom
    Sample Rate - 48.000 kHz
    Sample size - 16 bit
    Channels - Stereo
If you have an mp3 that you want to use, then you can convert it thru iTunes as well.
If the piece of music you want to use is something you purchased thru iTunes, I'm afraid I can't help you there. There are copywrite issues that prevent files from being converted into the format that FCP can recognize.

  • Can I import Director movies into Flash?

    Hi,
Can Flash handle Director movies? I am making a presentation
of my artworks in Flash environment; I have both Flash and Director
movies. I know that I can import all my swf movies into Director
MX2004 to create a standalone projector and play both swf an ddir
movies. Does it work for the reverse?
    Thanks
    Uti

No, you can't import or display Director movies in Flash in
    any way. Best
you can do is launch the Director executable from the Flash
    movie, though
how you do this depends on which version of Flash you are
    using.

  • Can't import Quicktime .mov into iMovie 10

Is it possible to import a Quicktime movie into iMovie 10?  I used to be able to do this with iMovie 9 but cannot get it to work with 10.  I can drag it into an event but no clips show up.   I can't believe that Apple would require a 3rd party product to get this to work.
As a separate rant, you used to be able to edit clips directly in Quicktime but Apple removed this functionality a while back; ie. deleting parts of clips rather than just trimming from the ends.  It is getting tougher and tougher to do basic editing even if you stay within the Apple ecosystem...

.mov can contain a variety of different movie formats not all of which are importable into iMovie 10.  Try playing it in Quicktime player 10 - does it say it has to convert?   If it converts it, the resultant file should import into iMovie 10 OK.  see: OS X Mavericks: Some files may be converted when opened in QuickTime Player - Apple Support
In Quicktime 10 the way to do this is to split a movie into clips and trim each clip as required.  These can then be imported into iMovie and joined as part of a project.  See:  QuickTime Player 10.x: Rearrange your movie’s content
Quicktime 7 Pro (which does allow removing 'middle' parts of a movie) still works in Yosemite

  • Can you import QuickTime movies into iMovie?

I am planning to edit PowerPoint slides into video footage of a live presentation. Some PPT slides have animations that I'd like to preserve, so I made movies of selected slides. When I try to import them, I get Unknown Error. After the fact, I went to the Help menu. QuickTime isn't on the list of file formats that can be imported. Am I out of luck, or does someone have a workaround?
    Marsha

H264 is one example of a codec used in MPEG-4 video encoding. Windows Media is a codec. Sorenson is a codec. DVPRO is ...etc....
Play a source video file and do a get info on it and tell me what the audio and video details are.

  • Can't import iphoto movies into imovie 08

The first time I launched iMovie 08 it imported the movies I made with my still camera from iPhoto. Some time later iMovie asked me to import some new movies from iPhoto I added. I did not want to wait for this process so I canceled. I thought it would be easy to import them later. Now I am trying to do this but it is just not working.
I would prefer to have these movies in the iPhoto-Videos event. But it seems to be impossible.
So I try to import them as normal movies. I can chose them and import them but they do not appear in the selected event.
    Does someone have ideas?

    Now I got it:
I converted them with "MPEG Streamclip" software and then imported to iMovie without any problems.
The movies from iTunes iMovie can handle came from my Nokia N93 cell phone and not from my digital still camera.

  • Can you import Quicktime movies into Final Cut Pro X

I have a one week old Macbook Pro retina which replaces my old iMac 24 with Snow Leopard. After my purchase, I found out that Mountain Lion will not support FCE 4. The problem is that I have a lot of unfinished FCE projects and a lot of video clips that were imported using Final Cut Express 4 "Log and transfer" on my external drive. I was going to purchase Final Cut Pro X and edit them on  my new computer but first I was going to convert them to Quicktime videos. So my question is, can I open Ouicktime movies for editing in Final Cut Pro X? Or perhaps someone has aneasier way for me to achieve what I am trying to do.
    Thanks in advance........

all of the videos that I imported using "Log and transfer" will only open in FCE 4.
Do you mean the media in the capture scratch folder? These don't open in any other application? Not in the QuickTime player?
If you mean the FCE project files, that's correct they will only open FCE4 or FCP7.

  • Importing WoW movies into FCP

    Hello!
I like to play World of Warcraft in the evenings. Lately I've started using the built-in movie capture function to create videos for my fellow players to view. I want to use FCP to edit them. Although the WoW client supposedly compresses the videos into Quicktime files, FCP won't accept the files for import.
The only way I can import the files is by using Compressor to re-compress the files. But for some reason that lowers the quality of the source in terms of FPS smoothness, even when using a lossless codec.
Can anyone give me tips on how to import the files directly, or even what settings to use for re-compression?
    Thanks
    -David

Sorry for bringing this up again but I have the same problem since the Video Capture Tool was integrated into the game.
I searched here and there for possible solutions but there seems no other than re compressing every file (and losing quality) when trying to use them with FCP or FCE. iMovie and Quicktime open the files but have trouble playing them after some time. Re compressing with QuickTime or Compressor is no Problem at all but takes a lot of time and quality.
It seems as if the frame rate has got something to do with it, but I'm not sure. I tryed conforming the files with Cinema Tools but in the log is says "Skipped -- The movie has temporal compression". I don't really understand what that means.
As compression for the movies recorded ingame, I choose H.264 but with other codecs I had the same issue.
Here is a small sample of a movie, recorded and compressed by the game:

Maybe this helps resolving this problem.

  • I can't import Quicktime movies into FCE 4?

Hi, I'm trying to import an eight second Quicktime movie (that I made in the new Motion 5) into Final Cut Express 4. When I try to import it, a message pops up saying "Error: Unknown File." Is there anything I'm doing wrong? Thanks in advance!

FCE works with two types of QuickTime codecs: DV and AIC.  When you exported the file from Motion 5, which of those two did you use?

  • Can I Import iPhoto slideshow into FCP?

I wish to import a slideshow of a wedding to add to DV footage which ultimately wil be exported to iDVD. Trouble is, every time I import the slideshow it requires contstant rendering, and no matter how much I tweak the sequence settings- it still causes problems ie- constantly requires rendering, won't play properly- PAINFULLY slow... grrr. Any help appreciated in finding the right button? Be kind! I am sure the answer must be transparently obvious, but my manuals have not helped
    Ta again
    Martin

Many thanks for your help- my problem with iPhoto was that I could only create a sideshow with one music track-when a very long slideshow needed 3. I managed to export the slideshow using compressor turning the long slideshow into a DV file which FCP happily accepted. No doubt there is an easier way but I did not find it.
Guess I'm the guy who goes for the scenic route
    ta again for your thoughts

  • Having touble importing Quicktime movies into FCP....

I keep getting an error message saying ;"File error; 1 file recognized, 0 access denied, 1 unknown."
Can anyone please help me with this? This should be the easiest thing and I'm having trouble. Very discouraging after spending so much on FCP
    Thank you,
    ~Pat

You probably won't be able to do it in FCP - though maybe...
I generally use QTPro to convert stuff that I haven't already captured myself. However, if it is an odd codec that QTPro won't even do I'll use Handbrake or some other 3rd party app like that.
If you can use FCP I'd set up a BATCH EXPORT from the browser window and if you have multiple files you need converted just batch them all together. OH - maybe even compressor will do it.
Actually -- you have lots of options.
Let us know if you need more help. I'm not going step by step until you need it.

  • Can't import MP4 movies into FCPro?

I recently ripped some footage off of an unprotected DVD that a friend gave me. (It's personal footage, not a commercial DVD.) I ripped it to MP4 using MediaFork. I tried bringing the resultant file into FCPro 5 today, but no matter what methodology I use to try to bring it in, I keep getting a "File Error: Unknown File" message.
This file is a QuickTime file; it plays in the QuickTime Player just fine. Anyone have any idea what's wrong here?
And in general: what is the best way to bring unprotected DVD footage into FCPro?
    Thanks very much.

"A lot of new users don't understand what makes this forum so valuable right of off the bat. They wander in here and behave like it's just a bunch of 'dudes' hanging around...This is not a chat room"
let me first say that i do understand how valuable this forum is, that the poeple who regularly post here are a tremendous resource, and that i always appreciate any help that i am given. i have never thought that this was a chat room or that we're all here to just shoot the breeze.
"they are very knowledgeable about the software and care that they give correct and useful answers."
i am well aware that i'm not the foremost expert on anything here, not even close. however, i still have a good understanding of how many things function, and in that vein, i believe that my information about MPEG Streamclip was useful and relavent. Greg seemed to agree, and DH also posted that MPEG Streamclip was a program to use.
Perhaps the issue is just that i wrote that i didn't know the solution to the specific question that was posted. Are the words "i don't know" verboten here? I was simply pointing out that while i couldn't solve the exact problem, i could contribute to a general solution.
again, this is a great forum - everyone is generally friendly, very helpful, and it's one of the best resources for apple products that there is, and i am always appreciative.
