Can't import Sony FX1

I'm trying to import 1080 HDV 16X9 video that I shot on my HDV-FX1...but the iMovie screen says "no camera attached". What menu settings do I need on the camera and are there any settings on iMovie that I need to change???

The camera should work perfectly - mine does - with iMovie HD 6 ..assuming that you're using a FireWire (also known as "i.Link" or "DV") cable to connect it to your Mac.
The cable should look like this:
..and you plug it into the i.Link/DV socket, which looks like this:
(..we-ell, on the FX1 it's the same style socket, but it's just beneath the bulge towards the rear on the right side, beneath where the camera strap attaches: just behind the thumb-push start-stop switch..)
Make sure that you're using (importing into) an HDV widescreen Project, and that the menus in the camera are set to HDV..
..and that i.Link conversion (from HDV to DV) is set to OFF (..in this pic it's set to ON..)
Sometimes, iMHD6 may fail to import HDV because it doesn't quite realise that it should be dealing with hi-def instead of standard-def. In which case, download this little hi-def clip from my download page here, and put that HDV clip at the start of your Project. Play it back in iMovie and THEN try importing from your camera.
That usually "kick-starts" iMovie into accepting hi-def material.
But as you say that your message shows "no camera attached", perhaps you're using the wrong kind of cable, or a faulty cable.
P.S: Oops; I just realised: the downloadable clip is a PAL 25fps clip, and - as you're in Chicago - you'd need an NTSC 30fps clip. I'll upload one this evening ..that's in three or four hours from now. Sorry for my mistake!

  • Can I import Sony .mts files with seperate audio layer into AE?

I can import .mts files from my Sony SR11 OK but the audio is in the same layer as the video content.
When I go to Edit/Edit in Adobe Audition and Audition opens Audition reports in details box, "Error:File not supported by any currently registered plug-ins."
The Audition Audio Plug-in Manager shows no available plug-ins.
Can I import the .mts file as seperate layers as one can with Premiere Pro? Alteratively perhaps, what plug-ins should I look for to add to Audition?

AE doesn't separate audio. You'll have to do it elsewhere, possibly in Premiere Pro or tools like ffmpeg/MPEGStreamclip. It's odd, though. since these components are the same in all the suite apps, a file that works in AE should just the same open in AU (without showing teh video in teh worst case). .mts is just MPEG2 or AVCHD in disguise, anyway, which the apps should open without a hitch - if it's not out of spec. I'd look into your camera settings, though. maybe you recorded to the wrong channels or an odd audio sampel rate and it's messing things up.

  • Can't Import Sony AVCHD Using Log and Transfer

    HI
I have been importing AVCHD footage from all kinds of cameras, mainly Panasonics for over 4 years now using Final Cut Pro 7.  I just got a new Sony NEX-EA50 but when I try to import the footage using Log and Transfer, it does not show up.  When I try to drop the card folder into the window I get the ""PRIVATE" contains unsupported media or has an invalid directory structure. Please choose a folder whose directory structure matches supported media." message.
The only way I can import the footage is using Toast, but that is a pain in the *** because it is a hassle to rename and scan the clips before I import.
Does anybody know whats going on?  Did Sony purposely change their file directory system so it couldn't be read by FCP?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
What framerate did you shoot ?
Log and Transfer will not recognise non standard frame rates such as 50 fps or 60fps. Toast, Clipwrap etc is an option but there is another. If you have the Panasonic AVCCAM importer Quicktime plug in, it will allow you to convert to Pro Res through Mpeg Streamclip or Compressor.
    DM
Hang on, are you pointing log and transfer at the ROOT folder and not the folders inside.

  • I can't import Sony Alpha 5100 raw format files

    Hello experts,
I tried to import raw format files from SONY Alpha 5100 (ILCE-5100) but never worked while it did when I tried with Alpha 5000. I checked with SONY customer support and was told that RAW format is exactly the same between 5000 and 5100, which is SONY ARW 2.3.
Does anyone know how to fix this? Or do i have to wait until Apple will update iPhoto?

We are just users like yourself here and have no idea what's coming down the pike at a later date.
You might see if the Adobe Camera Raw and DNG Converter : For Macintosh is compatible with your camera. If it is you can use it use it to convert your RAW files to DMG files which iPhoto can import until support by Apple is released.

  • Can I import Sony's micromv to my iLife

Hi I am new to this forum and also a fresh iMac user.
I will be very apprieciate if someone can give me some light whether it is possible to import micromv to iLife.
I have tried to hoop up my Sony's MV Handycam with my iMAC but have no luck. It is saying unsupported format.
    Appreicate for any suggestion!!

    Hi Ivan,
sorry to say: microDV is not supported by Mac...
iMovie is meant to work with miniDV camcorders; there are some workarounds to teach it new tricks//importing "other" formats, but in your case, the main problem is, to control the camera remotely - that is not supported by any Mac app (to my knowledge)
microDV is a very proprietary format, very very Sony-only (besides, I do like the cameras, that is REALLY small )
only workaround I imagine is to use some digitizer, connecting to analog output of camera with digitizer, then to Mac... but that's silly stupid.....
Plan C): connect Sony Cam with Sony Vaio PC; convert to dv stream; transfer THAT to Mac ;-)))

  • I can not import 60p files from Sony NEX-FS100U to Final Cut Pro X.

I can not import 60p files from my Sony NEX-FS100U to Final Cut Pro 10.0.1.  Does Sony offer a plug in?

I shoot fishing footage of big catches.  Slow motion playback appears to me to be much better when shot it 60p even compared to 60i.  It also blows away all of the other formats for a "still" grab.  Thank you for your help as I did a search and downloaded Clip Wrap which converted the files to .mov and they actually do import the full 60 frames.  Thank you again for your reply.

  • How can I Import 2 channel audio from a Sony PMW300 camera?

How can I Import 2 channel audio from a Sony PMW300 camera?

    Terry Woolf
    Thanks for the reply.
The link to your prior thread is
    Audio
I suspect that the issue of no audio for your .mp4 file goes to your conversion method MXF to .mp4.
Please excuse if I am saying what you already know. When you import your video into Premiere Elements (in your case 12 Mac), a project
preset is established, either by you manually or the project automatically. That project preset contains a description of the project settings
for audio as well as video. Unless you select one of the project presets which are described for use with 5.1 channel, your audio in video audio
imports into a stereo project. It is in the export area that you will find your opportunity to customize (if necessary) the settings for audio.
In the project, if applicable to your situation, you can duplicate an audio channel (See Fill Left or Fill Right under fx Effects/Audio Effects).
Please let me ask this to make sure of the details.
If you import your .mp4 with 2 channel audio (derived from your .mxf convert and dragged to Video Track 1/Audio Track 1) and cannot hear the sound....
    a. do you see any evidence for an audio file in the Timeline Audio track 1?
    b. if you do, how many wave forms do you see, one or two?
    c. if you have the audio meters opened while you are playing back the Timeline content in Edit area, do you see 1 or 2 channels and is
    there activity in both.
    d. when you import the file into Project Assets, do you observe any conforming activity going on in progress bar in the lower right cover of the workspace...if
so, do you wait for it to go to completion before continuing on?
We could also try deleting the conformed audio in the Media Cache Files Folder to force the program to re-conform the audio. See Edit Menu/Preferences/Scratch Disks should show you the location of the Media Cache Files Folder whose contents you will be deleting.
Please review and consider, and then let me know if I targeted your question. If not, please do not hesitate to let me know, and I will rethink my reply based
    on your response.
    Thank you.

Possibly. Media Go supports a variety of music formats, some of which can be imported in to iTunes and then synced on to an iPhone, however some of its formats cannot be imported in to iTunes.
See http://mediago.sony.com/enu/supported-file-formats/ for a list of formats supported by Media Go. iTunes for Windows supports MP3, AAC, WAV, and can import and convert WMA files as well. However iTunes does not support ATRAC, or FLAC.
Furthermore, if some of your music has been bought from an Internet music store it might be procted by DRM. If so it cannot be imported in to iTunes.
To do the importing you would either drag the music files in to iTunes, or tell iTunes to open them. See http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1347

  • Can't import videos from Sony A55

I can't import videos from Sony A55. Anybody can?

    Fellows,
I have an A55 as well and iMovie 8.0.6 and can not import the AVHD movies. When I look into my Kingston SD card I get a directory with 5 folders, AVF_INFO, DCIM, MISC, MP_ROOT, and private. In private there is a folder called AVCHD, in which there are 3 folders, AVCHDTN, BDMV, AND IISVPL. In BDMV there is 3 folders and two files. The folders are CLIPINF, PLAYLIST, and STREAM. In STREAM there are the .MTS files. I have tried importing them, importing STREAM, and importing BDMV, all without success. Do you know what I am doing wrong, do I need the new iMovie, any other ideas ?
    Thank you

  • Can't import from Sony XDCAM memory card to FCP 6

I can't import from Sony XDCAM memory card to FCP 6.01 HD. Am using Macbook Pro, 2 gig of RAM. This is my first time NOT using tape. I can copy the files off the memory card onto an external drive (to free up the card for pro crew's next day's shoot), but can't import either to FCP. Do I need to convert the files in some way before FCP can read them? Need to fix this problem fast as the crew are off to Nepal for 2 week shoot.

    Laura,
First, I'm assuming that you're referring to the XDCAM EX. You'll need to install the FCP 6.0.2 upgrade, which contains the XDCAM EX codecs.
Second, You'll need to install the PDZK-P1 Transfer Application, and use that to import your EX clips into FCP. I just noticed that there is a new version available, 2.5.1 which is labeled specifically for Tiger/Leopard. I haven't tested this version yet, and will report back on any stability issues. We're currently running version 2.1.1, without many issues.

  • Can't import videos from sony

I can't import my videos from my sony dcr-hc40e, from iMovie4 I can command the cassette but when I import the videos all I see is a blue screen and on the camera display is written dv-in. I have used the camera other times and made dvd's but now i cannot do this anymore. I tried to find in the camera's settings something, but no success. Could it be my firewire cable? it seems to work only one-way, from my mac to the camera. Help, I have to make this video soon!

    try the GaragebandCrazyFix
    b) sure, cable/plug could be broken
    c) resetting firewire ports (unplug Mac from powerline for 10min)
    d) trash com.apple.iMovie.plist ....
