Can't install itunes - error message "the folder "itunes" cannot be found

Help. I just bought a new Iphone and can't get itunes to load. I had itunes on my computer for several years for my nano - haven't synced up in about a year. Went to open it and got the following error message
The folder "itunes" cannot be found or created and is required. The default location for this folder is inside Mu Music folder"
I have uninstalled everything - quicktime, apple mobile, every single file. I have rebooted, run searches to make sure there were no files at all left - did it through control panel, search etc., rebooted and downloaded it again (this make about 5 times now) and still get that same message that the folder cannot be found. Help! I just blew about $400 in the Apple store!
Can anyone help me?

The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.

As a result, I cannot get Itunes to load. Have uninstalled and reloaded, repaired etc, all not working as still end up getting same message. Have also made an ITunes folder in My music, all to no avail. No viruses and virus library totally up to date. Here is a copy of the ilounge entries. I got one of my more IT literate guys to do this - but it looked easy when he did it!! important thing is it all came back - was a problem as I had moved an external hard drive so one of the locations detailed below showed the old address.

Clin on Run
Type in "regedit" Enter
Do this step twice as there are two locations.
CTRL F
Type in "My Music"
Double Click and enter the path for where the folder is located.
The exact locations of the 2 entries that I changed are
hkeycurrentuser - software - microsoft - windows - current version - explorer - shell folders
and
as above - windows - current version - explorer - USER shell folders
Try changing the two items from there - if these have already been changed then I'm not sure what to suggest.

Try to start one Office application, such as Word, when this error message appears again, go to check the event logs and we may find useful information to determine the cause:
Press Win + R, type "eventvwr" in the blank box, press Enter.
Browse to Windows Logs -> Application, check if there is any error about this issue. If there is, you can send the logs to us, we can help analyze the logs from which we may find the cause.

Anyway, based on the error message you provided, I suspect the issue was caused because one module was missing. Although we are not sure which one it is, you can go to Control Panel -> Programs and Features to repair Office, this will recreate
some missing components and probably fix this issue.

If you still have an issue you may have to see about using the iTunes version (application) included with Snow Leopard 10.6 from the installer or an another one if available online, and see if that will install.
Sometimes you may have uninstall the bits left in your system by the earlier (or later) iTunes installers; as they all leave a trace and these can stop a different version of iTunes from being installed.

I am trying to install itunes on my ipod 32, 3rd generation on my Windows XP and keep getting the message "the folder iTunes cannot be found or created and is required. The default location of this is inside the "My Music" folder."
When I look inside the folders, everything seems to be there. I don't know how to fix this.

I have an 80G iPod. I never had a problem with the itunes program until I switched to Vista. When I try to open iTunes I get the following error message:
*The folder path 'Program Files' contains an invalid character*
I have itunes installed on both my HP and on an external hard drive that I use as my backup in case something goes wrong. Neither one opens and I get the same error message on both. I have tried to uninstall iTunes and then reinstall and get the same message so I can't uninstall.
I'm really frustrated, I need to get to my music for a huge presentation in a few days. Can anyone help?

Someone help! I got an error message "The file 'iTunes library.itl' cannpt be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes." What does that mean? I had a clean-up done and now I can't access my music! I tried to download a updated version but I still get the same error. What can I do?

If you navigate to your iTunes Music Folder in Explorer you will see several files. The artwork folder contains artwork but only iTunes and iPod can read these files. There is a iTunes music folder with the actual music files. Then there are two files called iTunes Music Library.xml and iTunes library.ilt. These are two text and database files, respectively, that contain your ratings, play counts, last played and possibily your playlists too (Dont know about playlists). Stuff like that. There is also a previous library folder with an older database file. So in theory, you could delete the database and text files and still have your music. Then just download iTunes 6 and install. But you will lose ratings, play counts, last played, playlists etc. What I would recommend is to move your music to another location, then uninstall iTunes and delete the files I was talking about. Then reinstall iTunes. I think everything I said here is correct but I am not completely sure so I can't guarantee anything. Also I am using a Mac so it may be different, probably not though.

In order to play m4p files, you must authorise your new PC. iTunes should prompt you to do this if you try to play an m4p file on an unauthorised PC.
Apple has a strict download once policy, so you cannot re-download files that you have already downloaded.
The simplest way to get you files off the external drive is to add the folder containing your music to iTunes with File>>Add folder to library. You need to ensure that "Copy to itunes music folder when adding to library" is checked on the advanced tab of Preferences.
Doing it this way is easy but you lose counts and ratings etc. If you want to recover these, there are two possibilities.
If you had your iTunes folder containing the the iTunes Library files on the external drive, You can simply connect to it by doing a shift key start.
Hold down the shift key and start iTunes. Keep holding the shift key until you are promoted to choose a library. Navigate to the iTunes folder on the external drive and choose iTunes Library.itl.
But I suspect that you had your iTunes folder with lirbary files on your old PC. Recovering the library data is more complicated and I will need more information about your old set up if you want to attempt it.

Normally, all I do with photos is move them from my iPhone to my computer's (Windows 7) hard drive. I do this by connecting the iPhone with the cable, a box pops up on the screen asking me what I want to do, and I choose "Import pictures and videos". I've previously selected the "delete photos from the device after move" option (or however it's worded...), simply because I don't want this device to fill up with photos.
Lately, it has been importing the photos fine, but it won't delete them from the iPhone. This used to work just fine, now it doesn't work and I don't know what changed, if anything. In iTunes, I get the error message I list at the beginning of this message.
How do I fix this?

I think it is some sort of permissions issue preventing the installer from updating the shortcuts. Is your account an administrator of the machine? If it is and you still have the problem then you may need to explicitly use the "Administrator" account for the install.
