Can't join a Family Sharing setup.

I have a family member who set up a Family Sharing account, new with iOS 8. He invited myself and my brother.
It let my brother join in fine, but I am having problems trying to join the setup.
When I accept the invitation and get to the point where it says "Share your location with your Family", it gives me a popup that I could not join the family account.
It seems like I have reached a limit for switching accounts for Family Sharing, but I have not set it up before. It also doesn't show me the remaining days correctly.
This problem seems to be out of my control, and something on Apple's side that needs fixing. I have wiped the phone and signed in to iCloud from scratch, with the same problem.

I had the same problem and found a bunch of others did, too.  Unfortunately all the posts had no responses!  Anyway, I previously had my payment method linked to my paypal.  I tried changing it to my credit card and it worked.  Don't know if there's a bug with using paypal but that seemed to be the culprit for me.  Good luck!

  • I am part of a family sharing setup.  Can I have my own payment method so the organizer does not get charged for my purchases?

I am part of a family sharing setup.  Can I have my own payment method so the organizer does not get charged for my purchases?  If so, how do I set this up?

Yes.  Just redeem gift cards so that your own account always has a sufficient credit balance.  Here is how it works:
    Family purchases and payments
After you set up your family, any time a family member initiates a new purchase it will be billed directly to your account unless that family member has gift or store credit. First, their store credit will be used to pay the partial or total bill. The remainder will bill to the family organizer's card.

  • Family Sharing Setup Help

    Hi all,
My wife and I have an old iCloud/iTunes account setup that we like but it doesn't want to play ball with Family Sharing.  Consequently, I am hoping you guys can help us nut out the next steps.
Before Family Sharing, my wife and I wanted to share photos, contacts, calendar events, shared email and so forth but be able to make our own iTunes purchases separately.
Consequently, we set up an iCloud account and put this into both of our iPhones, laptops and iPads under Settings > iCloud.
We still, however, had iTunes Store, FaceTime, Messages etc set up on individual Apple ID's.
I attempted to set up Family Sharing using the shared iCloud account and setting my personal iTunes Apple ID as the "purchasing" authority and payment.
However, when I invited my wife in - it shows exactly as it is set up (probably due to the shared iCloud account details) and she doesn't see any purchases I have made and I don't see any purchases she has made.
What should we now do?  Do we need to revert to using our own individual Apple ID's in "iCloud" or something?

    Hello Carney10,
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
When you say you do not have the setup option for Family Sharing, that seems like you log into the iCloud System Preference but the "Set Up Family" button is not there.

  • Can I manage my Family Sharing and child's Apple ID from my windows computer?

I've bought a refurbished iPhone in lieu of new iPod touch for a kid. I've had an iPod classic for some years and have always managed my involvement with apple via iTunes on a windows laptop. I want to set up an "under 13" identity for her and start family sharing, but I've yet to find explicit instructions on exactly how to do this. Any suggestions?
    Thanks.

    This should answer:
From the family Sharing Page (Family Sharing - Apple Support):
"You can use Family Sharing on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with iOS 8, your Mac with OS X Yosemite and iTunes 12, or your PC with iCloud for Windows 4.0. To get started, one adult in your household—the family organizer—sets up Family Sharing"
"iOS 8 and OS X Yosemite are required to set up or join a Family Sharing group and are recommended for full functionality."
To set it up, go to your iCloud Settings on the iOS 8 device.
So basically, you can't manage it from your PC; from your PC, you can only access the shared iTunes content and other iCloud shared stuff such as photos, calendar etc.

  • Family Sharing setup issues

I can't set up family sharing, it keeps telling me to find my parent to set it up, the problem is that I am the parent. I tried setting up on different devices with the same response. Anyone know what I need to do?

Boy do I feel foolish. I just realized that what I was seeing was all of my other calendar info. When I deselected everything, there was nothing on my family calendar. As Rosanne Rosanna Danna said, "Nevermind".

  • Can I set up family sharing for the calendar without paying for everyone's purchases?

I would like to set up family sharing so we can share a calendar, see each other's location, etc. but I don't want to pay for everyone's purchases.  Can we set up family sharing without that feature?

When you added the card, did it take a number of goes to get it accepted ? Each time that you add or change your credit card details on your account a small temporary store holding charge (i.e. $1) may be applied to check that the card details are correct and valid and that it's registered to exactly the same name and address as on your iTunes account - your card issuer should remove it from your card within a few days or so.

    Howdy Denise,
It is not possible to combine Apple IDs. See this article -

You can set up Family Sharing using one of your Apple IDs by following the directions in this article -

Note in particular that in order to set up Family Sharing you need a Mac computer running Mac OS X 10.10 (Yosemite).

  • Family sharing setup

    Hello!
I am trying to set up family sharing option on my iMac, running on iOS Yosemite. After being prompted for password and entering it, the password window keeps appearing over and over again. There is no error message nor is my password incorrect as I can access App store and iCloud from Safari with same password entered. Any thoughts? Thank you.

    Hello USP45,
Thanks for the question. After reviewing your post, it sounds like you want to setup family sharing. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help you resolve or isolate the issue.

  • Can't set up family sharing...

I have an Apple ID and installed iCloud for windows. My son just bought an Ipod, and I would like to set him up with an ID under family sharing... Can I do this with my pc? I can't find family sharing when I log in ... I also logged into iCloud on the ipod with my Id, but again no family sharing... Can anyone help us?

    Hello cch4,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
If you'd like to set up Family Sharing, you would need to have either a Mac with OS X Yosemite installed, or an iPhone, iPad or iPod touch with iOS 8 installed.
Here's what you'll need to set up and start using Family Sharing:
An Apple ID signed in to iCloud and iTunes
iOS 8 on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
OS X Yosemite on your Mac
You can be a part of only one family at a time.

  • Family Sharing setup on both phones but the purchased songs do not show on member's device

So I set everything up with both my phone and my wife's iPhone.  All the devices are updated to iOS8.  I set up Family Sharing, my wife accepted it.  The family calendar works perfectly.  BUT the music in (iTunes Purchased) that are listed on my phone do not show up in the my wife's phone. Everything is accepted but when I go to Music in her phone, I do not see the items I have purchased. I can see the 155 songs she has purchased, but I do not see my 255 songs that I have purchased and appear on my phone.  Seems like I'm missing something here.    Any thoughts ?

Also, when I go to Purchased in the iTunes Store I do not see any family member (wife) for me to browse their collection.

  • Family Sharing Setup Question

Currently, I'm set up where I have an Apple ID that I've been using forever in the iTunes store for music/apps/etc. All the devices in my home are signed into that ID under the iTunes store preferences. Besides that, everyone has their own Apple IDs for everything else (e.g. iMessage, Mail, iCloud backups, etc.)
Note that as the "head user", my Apple ID is different than the ID used for iTMS.
This setup has been working just fine for me. Is there any benefit to converting over to Family Sharing? And if so, would there be any weirdness because of how I'm currently set up?

    Hi rlogan814,
If a member of a Family Sharing group has a redeemed gift card or store credit, those should be billed first before anything is billed against the shared organizer's card, as outlined below:
    Making purchases
After you set up your family, any time a family member initiates a new purchase it will be billed directly to your account unless that family member has gift or store credit. First, their store credit will be used to pay the partial or total bill. The remainder will bill to the family organizer's card. As the family organizer, any receipts generated by the transaction will be sent to you. Learn more about how iTunes Store purchases are billed.

  • Can I set up Family sharing in Canada with out a credit card?

    Hi
I am having a problem setting up family sharing. I do not have a computer, so I am trying to set up family sharing off my iPad Air 2. When I set up my Apple ID a few years ago i chose no payment option. I don't have a credit card and have no want for one.
I tried to set up family sharing and it wants me to update my payment option. When I go to select a different payment option in my account it only shows credit card options. So I did some reading on Apples' site and it states I can use a debit card. However I can not find that option when I go to change it.
I am doing this on my iPad and I do live in Canada.
Would this be the reason I can not update my payment option to a debit card? Or am I missing something.
    Thank you for your help!

    Norby,
iTunes Family Sharing requires a credit card to set up, as a way of establishing that you -- the Family Organizer -- are the financially responsible adult for the associated minors.
Once the account is set up, you can switch to a debit card.

  • HT204284 Does a single iCloud account get shared across all Apple IDs that are joined in Family Sharing?

I have an iCloud account on my AppleID and I have family sharing activated that links me with my wife's AppleID over all our devices.
I Am signed into my AppleID on my devices (iMac and iPhone) and my wife is signed into her AppleID on her devices (iPad and iPhone). I thought that family sharing would have allowed us to share an iCloud account so that we can share our photo album that is stored there. My wife's devices are not giving her access to the iCloud account on my AppleID though.
    Any clues?

    Greetings pbick,
I am sorry I did not make myself better understood. The article itself states that.
    Mac with OS X Yosemite
Go to Apple menu > System Preferences > iCloud > Manage Family and click the Add button (+).
Select "Create an Apple ID for a child who doesn't have an account" and click Continue.
Enter your child's birthday and click Next. The birthday for a child's account can't be changed after the account is created. Be sure to enter the correct date.
